WRT400N reboots spontaneously

I will be working online on my laptop and the router seems to reboot spontaneously.  I am running Windows 7 on my desktop and have never had this problem with my WRT54G.  There is no other firmware available for this router and this is the second one I have had.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Having a similar problem but when I start up games that get a list of game servers such as Quake, Unreal, etc.  Once my machine queries the master server it reboots the WRT400 EVERY time.  This seems to be an unresolved bug that needs to be fixed...

  • X10 reboots spontaneously.

Sinds a week a have a x10. It all works fine (not that smooth as a Iphone5 or Gallaxy3) only got one minor problem. It sometimes reboots spontaneously, even when it does nothing.

I just witnessed the same thing happen to my Z10.  It is sitting on the desk in front of me, charging on the AC adapter.  I saw the LED go solid red, so I picked it up and it was rebooting.  Bizarre.
I had something similar happen to another Z10 last week.  In that case the Z10 was intentionally turned off and was charging.  It turned itself on, again without any intervention whatsoever.
    Anyone have any similar issues?

  • WRT400n reboots every few minutes

HI,  I have this router and was working great......  THEN I get this great idea,  oh yeh, check to see if there is a firmware upgrade and there is.  Well I updated it with the newest and only one out there.   I did the upgrade, said sucessful and now it will just random reboot or something........ every few minutes the power light starts flashing....... then all the light go out, then power flashes again and it comes back up.   I have tried many times to reflash it with that new firmware but no avail.  I wish I had the old firmware back because it was working fine till I did this upgrade.   Anyone or Cisco persons have a solution for me,  can I get a copy of the original firmware or what is going on.    I am about ready to switch brands.... I've been a loyal Linksys/Cisco guy for long time but this and couple other routers I worked on are getting me to wonder.  Please help.......... thanks.

Yeh I have done a hard reset numerous times....  I have re-flashed it 3 times.   I just did flashed it again, and did a hard reset and setup my router settings the way I want it.  I will see what happens overnight and repost my solutions.  My guess is it will start acting up again...... I've tried everything.    Does anyone know where I can get the original flash file for the WRT400n,  it was working fine till I tried to update with the latest one.....  should have left it alone.  If I can't fix it....... I am switching brands.

  • Leopard (10.5.2) just rebooted spontaneously being woken up after sleep

I thought I had seen it all with Leopard, and then it just spontaneously rebooted when I woke it up from sleep. No applications open, just an empty OS X.
I think we all can agree that Mac OS X Leopard (in all 10.5.* encarnations) is the worst Apple ever produced. Even worse than OS9 or whatever it was called.
Steve Jobs and his programmers should be ashamed of themselves really. I even started wondering why Steve hasn't fired all the incompetent programmers working on Leopard yet. Everybody knows how fond he is of fireing people. The probable reason he didn't fire all incompetent Leopard programmers most likely is that if he did that, there wouldn't be any programmers left at Apple.
Congratulations people, for making the worst piece of software in the history of Apple software.

I have a brand new dual quad Mac Pro that has been exhibiting this bug for over a week. Following AppleCare's suggestion, I did an install and archive to get back to virgin status and have spend dozens of hours trying different things to track down this issue.
I was disappointed with the lack of acknowledgement of the problem by AppleCare, even though 100's of people on various chat lists are talking about this and other instabilities.
It indeed seems a Leopard issue ... and yet some people with seemingly identical machines do not experience the problem. So, then you wonder if it is hardware, or a combination.
When the reboot happens, there are no log entries as normally happen with sleep...no record of the computer ever going to sleep. Very odd.
As my attempt to switch from PC to Mac, I'm very disappointed with quality control and support from Apple. Even Microsoft (forgive me) eventually puts up a Knowledgebase article. But, with Apple producing both the hardware AND software, it is inexcusable to me for them to not have any kinds of announcements letting people know that they are aware of this and other Leopard problems and that they're working on them. This issue has been talked about for quite some time with nothing from Apple.
Do I return my machine before my 14 days are up? Or do I hang on with anticipation of a fix from Apple? At this point, I don't find Apple any less 'evil' than Microsoft...

  • PC shuts down or reboots spontaneously (MSI Eclipse SLI)

Starting a new thread to avoid totally hijacking another thread talking about almost the same symptoms here.
    My original post:
Quote from: Smoke on 05-April-09, 12:43:21
I get this same situation.. except the event viewer doesnt state anything.
The system is not bluescreening.. it just hardware powers down and reboots.
I get the same message as the original poster as well, it is very annoying as it often happens in the middle of doing something.
I wonder if it could be thermal related to the high IOH temps on the board (often 80-85C, but not sure what happens to them in the middle of playing a game)? Is there any way to log the temperatures to a file so I can check what they were at the time of the crash?
I get this issue whether I change the default bios settings or not. Ive got a 920 on my eclipse board, my CPU temps are below 30C under load. System temp is about 27C.
    What can I do?
    The following replies:
Quote from: AaronYuri on 05-April-09, 12:56:57
That's way too high, even for 100% load.  Reinstall the heatsink.
Quote from: Smoke on 05-April-09, 20:46:53
It is? I found another thread on this forum where it was mentioned that intel and msi said the IOH runs hot and to expect temps up to 100C. How do I go about changing the manufacturers heatsink on a board? Ive never done that before and cant find any procedural help thru google...
Ive been able to replicate the issue by running ram up to high usage. When I get above 98% ram allocation, I spontaneously reboot. So It could be a ram issue as well. Of would that be something possible IOH related as well?

    smoke,
Can you list out your full system spec and PSU spec?
    System Spec:
    Core i7 920 w/ TRUE 120
    MSI eclipse SLI (bios 1.4)
    6x 1gb corsair 1866mhz rated ram sticks (TR3X3G1866C9DF)
    1500w thermaltake psu
galaxy gtx295 in the primary x16 pci-e slot
MSI eclipse soundcard in the 1st pci-e x1 slot
    4x 1tb samsung 'UJ' hdd (raid 5)
O/S (= old winxp 32 bit until I get hold of a 64 bit os) running on 128gb PQI SSD
    lg bluray burner
All the drives are sata2 and running on the ICHIOR ports.
For bios settings Ive got the optimised defaults with spread spectrum off and turbo boost on. Once its table then I will OC, but for now its not stable at the baseline yet.
    Temp info:
IOH temps are as I said, around 80 at startup but rise to at least 87 under load, but not really much further that Ive seen.
CPU temps are very low with the dual-fan TRUE 120 heatsink. I havet seen it go above 35C with a reasonably heavy processing load. Usually sits about 0-2C above ambient at most when idle.
System temps get to about 40 under load, or around 27-35 under regular usage, but Im not quite sure what thats measuring the temp of on the board.
The issue is very frustrating but somewhat intermittent - I can go two days without a crash but then get several in a row. I wasnt previously paying attention to my usage at the time tho so I dont remember what I was doing when it crashed that I wasnt doing when it was fine. I have been able to replicate the crash/reboot/shutdown symptom by running multiple memory intensive apps and loading the ram up to just on the 2.99gb mark (the most winxp 32 bit will 'see') and it goes down. No blue screen though.. its a hardware issue not software I am pretty sure.
[edit] Updated the ram part number to be correct.

ok, should I label this possibly as solved?
I followed MSI's advice and checked through on drivers. Ive got totally up to date drivers, but nvidia just put out a .5  driver update (i mean, its increased the driver version by .50) and so I updated to that. I still got a sft reboot on testing, so no real joy.
THEN, I did the big change MSI asked me to do - Ive successfully brought my system up to bios 1.5B3 and pow, massive improvements all round!
Intelburntest runs perfectly now, no crash, no reboot, no errors of any kind. All residuals match. No memory errors. Memtest86 2.11 runs smooth as silk without errors either. PCmark runs out a basic benchmark of almost 19000 (about 3000, or 18.75%, more than the std core i7 920 benchmark without OC'ing) and looks great. Couldnt get that to run previously either.
The previous methods which 100% of the time would replicate the soft reboot of the system now no longer do so at all (i.e. 0% of the time yet) and for that matter I have not been able to get the box to fall over AT ALL since the new bios.
I have the same temps on cpu/ioh/system as I did previously. I recall for the same clock speed the cpu was putting out something well under 20 gigaflops... now its a solid 28. I didnt even realise that was a symptom of anything wrong, else the bios does some amazing extras.
I should note, Im only now using the 'optimised defaults' setting thru the bios. No overclock at all yet.
I'd love to know what MSI changed from 1.4 to 1.5B3, but whatever it was.. it does appear to have solved my issues. I wont say that conclusively just yet, but I cant bring the system to a crash no matter what I try now where it was rather easy to blow it over with a quiet whistle before.
Other things Ive noted is that the page file now seems to be actively utilised. Ive pushed it at load up to almost 3gb where before the bios update I was struggling to see 400mb used. Not sure if that was part of it, but if you get simiar issues go straight to MSI and see about getting hold of the 1.5B3 bios or later.
To quickly address the recent replies:
    1) Ive got to agree with HU16E with my ram. I have no trouble running at the 1333 JDEC spec. And I feel very positive about now being able to achieve the XMP spec with this new bios.
    2) Thanks for the link Aaron. I did end up using the USB flash method from this forum. Worked perfectly. Chalk up another success story!
    3) I did try to swap out the ssd last night, but the system kept soft rebooting while installing the OS on the spin drive. SO I gave up. Seems the ssd isnt a drawback under the new bios tho (assuming it even was a cause earlier).
    4) Ive DL'ed the x64 windows 7 beta and I'll likely as not have a shot installing that and refitting the extra 3gb ram back into the system. I'll let you know how it goes. Theoretically 6x1gb sticks should be as much as 15-20% faster than 3x 2gb sticks (and were about that much cheaper for me at time of purchase) but I'll run some benchmarks now that the benchmarks work and let you know the differences in case anyone wants to build their box the same way.
    Conclusion:
I'll stress the system over a bit for the next few days without overclocking and I'll see if I can bring the system to reboot like it did previously through high usage, and if I cant I'll change the thread to solved and write out a proper solution post for the problem, symptoms and solution.
Id like to take the opportunity to say thanks to all the guys who've given me help and advice. Youve all been really great. Thanks a bundle! I owe you one

  • Droid X reboots spontaneously, camera issues, etc

For about the last month or so, I have major issues with my Droid X, which I have had since May. My camera will freeze while taking pictures or opening the app, my phone will spontaneously reboot during phone calls, web browsing, or listening to music. I've had more dropped calls within the last month than my entire 5 years with Verizon.
The phone is not rooted and I have Lookout Mobile for my virus protection. It was updated to the official Gingerbread. I am at my wits end with this phone. Any suggestions?
P.S. I received this phone as a replacement for my Droid Incredible from the insurance company. It's always had problems, but nothing like recently, I am just not a big complainer.

Not saying this is the source of your problems at all, but you don't need Lookout Mobile. Virus scanners and apps of that sort do nothing, and only cause excessive battery drain and, at times, problems.
Now on to your phone issues. How many apps do you have on it? Have you ever gone in to see which apps run the most, and try force closing them if you're not using them? That might help - sometimes there's just too much stuff going on at once and it bogs the phone down.
Have you noticed that you've had worse reception with the X than you did with the Incredible? That's really the only thing I can think of that would account for dropped calls. It could also be on the other person's end as well.

  • IMac G5 Reboots spontaneously after adding USB drive

I bought a western digital My Book hard drive a couple of weeks ago and it seems that when it is hooked up my iMac will occasionally reboot. I reformatted the drive to mac format and have done a couple of backups. It appeared to be related to sleep so I turned sleep for drives off. It seemed to lock up when an operation was complete. Has anyone seen this problem and are there any ideas for a fix. Could it be a problem with the drive? The drive appears to work fine whenever I use it.

It completely died on Saturday evening while my wife and I were out to dinner. One of the discussions over wine & pasta was getting another mac (A macbook). My wife was tired of waiting to use the mac, she never wanted to use my pc. I came home to a dead iMac. It has the dreaded bulged capacitors and had given up the ghost. Luckily I'm covered so I'm hoping to get it back within the next few days. We went ahead and got a macbook so it isn't all bad. I'm loving this tiny little mac..

  • HP pavilion DV6 1030us shutdown and reboot spontaneously

I bought a HP pavilion DV6 1030us in June 2009, and the Bios was updated to the latest version F24A.
However, during the notebook running, it will sunddenly shutdown and restart again.
Such unexpected shutdown just looks like loss of power suddenly, and happens randomly, at least I can not find a rule.
For most cases, such shutdown comes  without blue screen, and it is operating system- independant.  I tried to install windows 7 64bit, windows 7 32bit, vista 64 bit, xp 32bit, all OS has such problem.
I dont know whether other users with this model has such problem. I tired everything I can do, still can not solve the problem.
I suspect the Bios has some problem. I hope HP will release a new one quite soon.
btw, if I update the BIOS, will it erase the old BIOS completely first, then write into the new one?
    Thanks for all your attention!

connected to my MacBook Pro ( Snow Leopard ) using BlackBerry Desktop Managery, software version 1.0.2 build 8
syncing of Calendar and Contacts goes very well
much much faster than with my old Pearl
but... when I disconnect the device
after approx 30 sec. the Bold goes down, only the red led is flashing and it needs a restart
    any clue ?
    thx in advance
    regards Henny

it doesn't matter if the drives do show or don't
it doesn't matter if I'm using the USB on the iMac or on the Mac Display
it doesn't matter if I remove the battery and reboot
    sometimes the sync is Ok
    somethime not
sometimes the BlackBerry reboots spontaneously 30sec 1 min after disconnect
    sometimes not
    don't see a pattern

  • Spontaneous reboot and panic log

I was taking a couple of pictures with the iPhone 3GS, then flicked through some of the pics to look at them, when the iPhone rebooted spontaneously (the screen blanked, then the Apple logo was shown).
It happened only once. I synchronized and found the following panic log in the CrashReporter directory on my Mac.
Has anyone else experienced this? Could this just be a software glitch or am I looking at hardware failure? I didn't find much on Google or on this forum regarding iPhone OS kernel panics...
I didn't modify the iPhone in any unapproved way, and I did install it as a new phone when I purchased it (no restore from backup).
Should I report this to Apple somehow?

Since it references com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireFamily, I suspect that some FW device is causing the panic. Disconnect all of them and see if that stops the problem. As for general KP stuff, start with http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

  • Any X1900 users have spontaneous reboots?

    All:
I do realize that this may not be directly related to Motion, but it could be related to the graphics card, and this is the largest group that I can think of that would have X1900's.
I've, in the past, experienced a hard reboot during Motion renders when the X1900 intake was dirty. It seems that throwing a kernel panic is pretty normal if the X1900 doesn't have clean airflow. So, I clean the intake ever few months or if it gets loud.
Recently I've had my system (Mac Pro) reboot spontaneously during normal non-motion tasks like editing in FCP, watching Flash videos in Safari, and lately not doing anything at all (not even touching the system).
I'm curious if anyone has heard anything about this type of behavior based on the X1900. I've searched the webs and it looks like there are folks that have experienced these spontaneous reboots on Mac Pros but there is no apparent commonality. I'm currently cleaning my os drive (as it came back with errors), and have reset the SMC, but I realize this could also be a PSU issue, or even bad memory...
The reason I'm locked in on the GPU is that I know it has, and can bring my system down.
Just a shot in the dark in case anyone here had read or heard about this type of behavior.
    Thanks.

Frustrating day but here's something worth reading in regards to GPU's, overheating, and geniuses:
My system spontaneously rebooted about 6 times today while doing all sorts of different things. FCP, Motion, simple web video surfing, and scrolling through a Safari window.
I called the Apple store here in Austin and they said they had the ATI 4870 in stock, but I'd have to bring my tower in because they have to install it. They can't support it if they don't install it. F-it, so I took it in to resolve the issue.
I went to the genius bar and the guy tried to recreate the reboots, albeit unsuccessfully. I think this is because there wasn't enough time to heat the thing up again, and we had a small monitor plugged into it.... and he opened up the side which certainly kept it from overheating. Dhrr. He ran a full system diagnostic and it came back clean. I explained my reasoning, that the X1900 had rebooted my system before, when it overheated. It seemed to be doing that now but without the dust buildup. Maybe old, or something... (or simple HEAT : meaning that heat seems to be the culprit for these reboots from the X1900 whether preceded by fan noise or not).
Then he informed me that the like for like replacement in my 2007 mac pro (no longer covered under any sort of warranty or applecare) was the nvidia 8800, about $600 bucks. I told him I wanted the 4870 that everyone says works in the 2007 Mac Pro, though it's not "supported," for $349. He looked at me funny, went and talked to his manager, then came back and said they wouldn't sell it to me since it wasn't supported on a mac pro 2007. Mind you the 8800 is twice as much, and they didn't even have it in stock.
Then he said they could keep it for 24 hours and try to recreate the problem, for 80 bucks. That way we could figure out if it was the graphics card. After I explained to him that I've scoured these discussion groups for the right solution for what I'm doing: MOTION, and that I'd gotten feedback that the 4870 seemed to be the right solution at the right cost, he told me I could go to frye's or newegg and buy one.
Long story short, it wasn't the best experience. But I did come home and try one more thing. I opted to download SMCfanControl 2.2.2 to actually speed up my internal fans. Basically I doubled the speed from a minimum of 500 rpm to around 1000, resting speed. Still a quiet speed this brought the temperature of my case down about 50 degrees, to an operating temp of about 100F. Before that it was running over 150F. It's been running solid for a WHILE now (fingers crossed). I pushed it with all sorts of stuff and it hasn't rebooted yet.
So, I think a few things are worth asking.
1: Did the System Management Control (SMC) change recently in a system update? I'm wondering if it's not picking up on the x1900's effect on the running temperature and letting it overheat my system.
2: Why can't they staff the the genius bar with geniuses.
    3: Germany or the Netherlands?

  • Satellite M70-173: spontaneous reboots

I've got an M70-173 that reboots spontaneously. It's running XP Home SP3 and has all current updates applied.
The reboots are more frequent at some times than others but the only clue I have as to the cause is that they seem to be most frequent when I have wireless networking turned on.
I realise that that's lot a lot to go on, but has anyone any thoughts on what might be happening?
    TIA

I have Satellite M70-159 almost two years now and it runs like on first day. No reboots and some strange issues. I still use SP2 and do not want to install SP3. After reading some comments here I do not want to have some problems with well running OS.
What happen exactly? Does your notebook switch itself OFF and you must start it again or notebook reboots like after choosing restart option?
Is there some message or something? Maybe some application that runs in background is responsible for that.
If possible install your notebook with recovery image and check if the problem occurs again. Sorry but it is not possible to say for sure why this happen. We can just speculate here. Every of us has own OS configuration and use some favorite applications, freeware and shareware applications. Many of them are not so good and everything is possible.

  • Spontaneous reboots?

My Droid Turbo 64 is only a week or 2 old, and reboots spontaneously. Does anyone know why this happens? This morning it rebooted 5 times in the hour it took me to get ready for work. I would hate to have to return to the store and reload all my apps, pics, etc..

We don't want you to have to return your phone either, sshhaazz. Has it been this way since day one? Can you recall if any new apps have been added that may cause the reboot? Please try the phone in Safe Mode to see if it still reboots and let me know what happens. http://vz.to/12bThaX

  • Mac Book Pro rebooting repeatedly...

A Mac Book Pro used by a professor in our building has been rebooting spontaneously. Can't observe a pattern...not during a certain program, etc. Observed it once in between installations, user said it's happened frequently since then, even when computer is just resting. Have verified disk and permissions are good. Any ideas about this?

Sounds like a faulty memory module... have your professor run a Memory hardware test (using the original OS X install CD).
