WRT546 v5 wireless router security settings mysteriously reset?

Hi. I owned a WRT546 v5 Linksys wireless 802.11g router. After purchasing it roughly 2 years ago, I set up my network name and set WPA security. About a year ago I noticed that it has somehow been reset to the default settings: network name - linksys / . Rather chagrinned and a bit frightened, I checkly reset it to my preferred network name and WPA security.
I just noticed the weekend that it had once again reset itself to the default settings. Last time I know for sure my network name was correct was about a month ago. It something I want to set and not worry about.
I want to make clear that the router has not been moved, nor has the reset button been pushed. It is out of the way and not messed with.
Has anybody else experienced this problem. I do not particularly like the idea of my network security being randomly reset without my knowing.
thanks
bobby

Hi!
This happens when the router loses its firmware......try upgrading the firmware....
I personally dont think its due to someone hacking your network or a weak WAP key.....try upgrading the firmware and reinstalling the router..and that should work for you...
This is a common occurrence with this kind of routers...so you dont have to worry about it...
Revert Back if you still face any problems!!!!

  • 2nd wireless router security settings

Hi, hope someone can answer this for me.
I have a WRT-610N and I've just set up a 2nd wireless router (E3000) to extend range of my wireless network.
Same SSID, same subnet, DHCP off etc.  All works fine.  Network passwords I set identically.
My question is: what security settings should I apply on the 2nd router?  i.e. I have MAC address filtering on the internet-connected primary router, the WRT-610N - should I apply this on the E3000 also?
    thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. wireless MAC filtering is useless anyway. Don't set it up. It's only causing problems to you. (You would have to set it up on all access points/routers)
    2. Setup WPA2 Personal with AES and a strong passphrase. That's secure.
    3. Set up identical SSID and wireless security setting on both for a roaming network.
    4. Choose different channels on both, if you use static channel assignments to avoid interference.
    5. Make sure SSID broadcast is enabled.

  • Wireless Network Security Settings

I have purchased a WRT54G router.  I had no problems getting one computer  and one laptop on the internet with the security settings turned on.  The problem is that I am trying to connect an older laptop to the system.  The older laptop does not have a ethernet connection port so I am not able to run the normal setup.   It does have  wireless adapter card.  With the card I can get on the internet when the router security settings are turned off but I want to turn my security setting on.  How do I keep my security turned on and still be able to get on the internet with the old computer?  I was told that it would be possible and that I could set up a password to where the older laptop could sign on to get on the internet.  How would I go about doing this?

First, make sure you have the latest driver for your wireless card.
Next, in the computer's wireless software, go to "Preferred Networks"  (sometimes called "Profiles" )  and enter your network's SSID, encryption method, and key.  Next make this network your default network and set it to connect automatically.  (Note: to do this, you may have to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings". )  Reboot computer.  It should work.

  • Can I use a WRT546 V8 Wireless Router in combination with Vonage?

Please bear with me if this turns out to be a simple question with a simple answer; I'm challenged when it comes to these things. I use Vonage, with a Motorola VT2442-VD router. That's connected to my desktop but I also have a Dell laptop (with Windows Vista) that will rarely if ever be in the same room as the desktop. So I need a wireless signal, but when I've tried to connect the Vonage/Motorola router with my Linksys WRT546 V8 Wireless it doesn't work properly. Either the wireless works and the Vonage doesn't, or the wireless doesn't work and the Vonage does. I've only tried a few times, but I've gotten frustrated with my lack of technical knowledge. When I get frustrated, I can barely plug in a light bulb much less deal with anything technical. If anyone has some advise/help for me, I would very very much appreciate it. And if you need more details in order to help me out, I'll be happy to give them to you (or at least try). Anything is better than what I'm doing, which is nothing given my current level of frustration. Thanks!

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly
the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the
router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power
cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable
to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug
in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
Also, the advanced wireless settings to Beacon Interval=50,Frag
    thres=2306 & Rts thres=2307 & then uncheck a Block Anonymous Internet
Requests & it will definately work!!!

  • How to access wireless router security setting.

How would I go about accessing the security settings of my wireless router? I'm on windows XP.
    -Thanks

    1. Go to www.linksys.com. Click Downloads. Select your router model and version. Download the user guide. Read it.
    2. Open your browser at http://192.168.1.1/ Further instructions are in the user guide.

  • Router Security Settings D-Link DI-604

I just got a D-Link DI-604 WIRED (not wireless) Router.
I changed the password from the default. I disabled "UPNP" because I heard that was a good idea. I also disabled "Gaming Mode" because I don't do games. I have a G4 and a G3 hooked up to it, as well as my cable modem and a printer. Everything works.
What I am trying to find out is what other settings I should consider changing from the default settings.
There are a lot of choices, much too numerous to enumerate. I have sole control over both computers. Nobody has my permission to access my computer from the "outside". Of course, I surf the net and do normal things on it. All I want to do is make sure the "bad guys" don't get into my computer and do nasty things.
Do any of you have some general advice or websites to recommend?
    G4 QuickSilver Dual 800MHz; 512 MB SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Pioneer DVR-111D; also two G3's

The best thing to do is to block every port that you don't need. Both in and out. The you'll know which application needs which port. Try netbarrier.

  • WRT300N Router: Security settings on but no security light.

I have a WRT300N v1.1 with the most recent firmware (v.1.51.2) and my security settings are mixed network mode, wide radio band, wide channel 9, standard channel 11, using WPA personal in tkip, with SPI firewall enabled, and SSID broadcasting off.
My security light is not on even though my security settings are in effect.

It is interesting how different tech support people give different answers. One guy tells me it's broken and another told me that it's not used. What was also weird was that even the tech support people don't know what buttons, lights, and features the WRT300N had. They didn't know it didn't have SecureEasySetup. Tech support told me that it is okay that the light is off. In fact, it's supposed to be part of SecureEasySetup (SES)which the WRT300N does not have. Basically, they put a light on the router that wouldn't be used. So, just check that your security is on in the browser based configuration page (which you can find by putting 192.168.1.1 in your address bar and pressing enter). If it says your security is active you are okay and the light being off is no issue. Although, I'm totally flabbergasted why they would put a light that wouldn't be used. If you notice, the WRT300N has a black button on top that has a padlock on it and the words reserved around it. There are two differing accounts for the use of this button. Tech support told me that you press it to back up your router settings (I'm too scared to try this) and I found on the forums that it's "reserved" for some future use. I think that when they upgrade the firmware, the button may be but to use for SecureEasySetup, but at the moment it's of no use. I hope that helped. This router has been a source of so much annoyance and hardship, but it's working fine now.

  • Using public wireless network, security settings?

    Hi there,
I'm a new Mac user. If I'm using my MacBook Pro on a public wireless network, do I need to change any security settings to prevent other users from accessing my documents/hard drive etc?
    Thanks in advance.
    M.

Yes turn of guest access to your computer in the accounts preference pane.
Turn off any sharing protocols you may have enabled in your sharing preference pane.
In the security preference pane click on the firewall tab and set access for specific services.
Also when using public wifi it is a good idea not to use email or connect to any online banks etc.

  • Some System Settings Mysteriously Reset

    Hey all,
I've recently started experiencing some mysterious resetting of some of my system preferences after a reboot. I take my MBP to and from work and shut it down when moving back and forth most times. What I've encountered is a subset of my preferences getting reset to default values, but not every time. Here's what I notice that gets reset:
Appearance: Appearance, Scroll Arrows, Use Smooth Scrolling
Keyboard: key repeat rate, delay until repeat and use F1 et al as standard fn keys
    Trackpad: tracking speed, scrolling speed
    Mouse: tracking speed
There may be others that get reset but I just haven't noticed and still others that would be reset if I actually changed them. There are also many that I have changed that do not get reset.
Does anyone have any ideas how this happens or and suggestions on how to troubleshoot?
    Thanks for your help, Jim

Thanks for the suggestion -- it may be a while before I decide the problem has been fixed though. Hopefully a couple weeks from now I'll suddenly realize "Hey, I haven't had my settings reset on my in a while!"
    Cheers!

  • How can i locate my wireless connection security settings

I need to see the type of security that my iPhone4 get when connected to my home router. Thanks

Log in to your router - you should be able to determine what security settings are enabled.
The phone doesn't tell you this infomation.

  • Wireless Router Security Setup

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question but I am fairly new to my mac. (love it by the way)
We have DSL at home and recently bought a Belkin Wireless G router. I put in the cd that came with it and selected the Mac option for install. Now, after this it took only a few seconds and was done. All connected and up and running in nothing flat. My wife was able to connect via her PC laptop no problem.
I want to secure this wireless connection and I can't quite figure out how. Oddly enough there is no Belkin icon for me to click on to get into any properties. When I type belkin into my spotlight search nothing comes up. I assume I should be setting up the security directly on my mac somehow but just not sure how.???
Have tried reading and searching but still can't find anything. Right now I am assuming my question is just too simple so no one else has this problem but I just can't get my pea sized intellect to figure it out.
    Thanks All!

Well, you do have Security on your Mac, but what you want is to address the router's Setup page
Run Safari and type this into the url bar...
    http://192.168.2.1
You should see a Menu there.
Come to think of it, this is probably the best source on how to...

  • Wireless Router Security Question

I use your Linksys WRT 600N router with login & PW on a satellite internet connection with file sharing for a second laptop. If someone trolled by on the lake within a hundred feet could they get my signal and access my pc files while I was logged on…or would they be asked for a PW to login?
    DD

Setup your wireless connection using WPA or WPA2 as security.  They will need your passphrase to connect to your network.  Do not use Linksys as your network name.  Change your router password to something other than admin.
