WRT54G and Actiontec GT24R with Quest

Phone line pluged into the Actiontec, Ethernet cable from #1 on Actiontec to Internet on back of Linksys, then Ethernet cable from #1 on back of Linksys to computer. When I type 192.168.0.1 into the address on my browser I get the setup page for the Actiontec, not the Linksys. So, I'm not able to configure the Linksys. I've rest the Linksys. Help!
Running Vista on a Gateway GT5468. My laptop is a Thinkpad R61i running both Vista and Win7 Evaluation Copy 7100 (dual boot).

The default IP Address of the Linksys router is 192.168.1.1...So try to access the setup page using 192.168.1.1.The default password is "admin".

  • Linksys WRT54GS and AX WDS with WPA

I have researched everything in these forums and I thank all for their hard work. Am I to conclude that if I want to use the AX as a bridge (WDS) that I can only use WEP encryption? I tried following the instructions with WPA and when I plug the AX back in, after the cycle time it goes green for about 5-7 seconds then starts to flash yellow. What are my options?
If I by the new Airport 802.11n will it help? I know I won't be able to access the n speed since I am only core duo and not core2 Duo but I really want to make this bridge happen on a secure network. Any other options? I am trying to provide secure internet access for my home entertainment system (Kenwood) over a wireless network since there is no RJ45 plug nearby.

Anyone have any ideas? Anyone familiar if the Alchemy firmware upgrade will allow me to do this?
Is my only option to downgrade to WEP security? Client mode with WPA works fine....but I would really like WPA for the WDS.
Thank you to anyone who can help...I am trying to avoid spending$100+ for something that I may be able to do with the equipment I currently have!

  • Using the WRT54G and a WUSB54GC with an Xbox 360.

    Hi,
I have a WRT54G router and I just bought a WUSB54GC compact Wireless-G USB adapter because I thought I could connect it to my Xbox 360 to play games online. Is this possible? I've tried a few times, but I can't get it to work. I'm not too tech savvy but I'm guessing that it isn't supposed to work like that. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi
As far as my knowledge, if you want to use WUSB54GC you need to install its drivers, and that is not possible on X-box 360, in that case you can check if your X-box 360 is Wi-Fi enabled, if not you can use a special product i.e. WGA54G, Wireless-G Gamming Adapter, It's completely driver-free, so it works on any platform. Since there's no drivers to load, setup is a snap. It provides lag-free gaming with communication speeds up to 54Mbps when connected to other Wireless-G devices. It can also connect to Wireless-B (802.11b) devices and networks at 11Mbps.

  • WRT54G and Xbox 360 with no internet

New Xbox 360 hard wired to router WRT54G, router recognize xbox but will not connect to internet. What do i need to change?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If your router's IP Address is 192.168.2.1...
Goto the XBox Network Settings and IP Address Settings and select manual IP Settings and assign the following on your Xbox
    IP Address :- 192.168.2.20, Subnet Mask :- 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway :- 192.168.2.1...
Also you can upgrade the firmware on your router if the connection is slow when you use your XBox...You can download the firmware from here
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device: -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.2.1
Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...
Then, unplug the power cable while holding down the reset button for another 30 Seconds...
Plug the power cable back in, and keep holding down the reset button for another 30 Seconds...
Release the reset button...To re-configure your router follow this
Do the Port Forwarding as mentioned earlier...

  • Aanyone using a LINKSYS WRT54GS and having success with video?

If you do, please tell me if you changed your settings and what you might have done to get it to work. OR did it work without any work?
    Thanks
    Jon

    Hi Jon,
    Mostly for info and pics
Follow the instruction to Unblock the Anonymous Requests.
The instead of Port Forwarding go to the Administration tab and use UPnP instead.

  • Problem with WRT54G and DSL NAT router

I have a WRT54G connected to a Westell DSL NAT router. I would like to be able to allow incoming connections to my FreeBSD server.
The Westell router allows me to set IP Passthrough (they call it "Single Static IP"). This gives the WRT54G the outside IP address given to the DSL router. I can then set up the WRT54G for DDNS and port forwarding to forward specific ports I want to my server.
This works, for about 2-3 days. Then, I start to randomly lose outside connectivity. Web pages start coming up with missing elements, or taking a long time to load. This will eventually lead to total loss of outgoing communication.
Normally, I would blame this on the Westell NAT router, but as I'm losing connectivity to the internet, I'm also losing connectivity to the WRT54G. It will try to load configuration pages but will be slow with missing elements, etc.
All communications between computers on my inside network continue to function properly, it's just connectivity to the WRT54G and the internet that seem to start to fail.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on? I just upgraded the firmware on the WRT54G from 1.01.1 to 1.02.0, but I don't imagine this will help.
    Thanks,
    David Chamberlain

Try setting the MTU to manual and change the value to 1450

  • Using WRT54G and WET11 with another router as the Gateway

I have a wired network in the house with access to the Internet through a router on the 2nd floor. I connect a ReplayTV DVR in the basement to the network with a Cat5 cable running across the floor between the DVR and a switch. I'd like to replace that with a wireless solution.
I have at my disposal one WET11 bridge and two WRT54G routers. Neither of those routers is the one connecting the house to the cable modem. Is there a way I can connect one of the WRT54G routers to a switch in the basement and have it talk to the WET11 connected to the DVR on the other side of the basement?

I made some progress, but then ran into a couple of snags. I'm not routing with the WRT54G so I connect it to a switch through one of the 4 ports that is not the one labeled Internet. The network looks like this:
    Cable Modem --> Netgear Router --> Switch --> WRT54G(port 1)
    Laptop --> WRT54G(port 4)
With that cable arrangement I was able to log in to the WRT54G's administration page from my laptop, give the WRT54G a name and change it's IP address to 192.168.1.251. I left the subnet as 255.255.255.0.I also started to configure some other settings, but I did not write them down. I was able to access the Internet from the laptop at that time.
I was also able to move the cable going from the laptop to port 4 on the WRT54G with the WET11 Ethernet Bridge and could access the Internet. And, I was able to remove the bridge, turn on the laptop's wireless capability and access the Internet through a wireless connection to the WRT54G.
I tried to access the WRT54G's admin page wirelessly, but was not able to get to the login screen. I ran out of time and set everything aside for a week. When I got back to it, I was unable to access the WRT54G's loging screen. I can still connect the laptop to port 4 on the WRT54G and reach the Internet, but I cannot do so using the bridge.
Is there some tool I can use to determine the IP address of the WRT54G? I tried resetting (using the button on the back), and I tried several IP addresses in addition to the one I'm pretty sure I used. I'm assuming that I'm trying to log in using the wrong IP address.
I have a second WRT54G that I can still log on to. However, I don't want to do anything with it until I understand what I did wrong with the first one. (Both of them are version 6.)
Another snag is that I was never able to get the setup program to find the WET11. It claimed that it couldn't find the one I had plugged into the laptop's Ethernet port, even though I was able to connect to the Internet using that bridge to the WRT54G. However, that does not work anymore.
Pointers as to what went wrong would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • WRT54G v6 not working with new Motorola SB6141 on Comcast (IPv4 and IPv6)

My WRT54G v6 not working with a new Motorola SB6141 Cable Modem on Comcast (IPv4 and IPv6).
Yesterday, I had my old DOCSIS 1.1 cable modem and the WRT54G had been working just fine for the past 8 years.
Last night, I swap in the DOCSIS 3.0 SB6141 cable modem, and now the WRT54G keeps losing the internet connection.  When I go into the status page for the WRT54G, I often do not see DNS servers and sometimes do not even see an IP address.
If I connect a PC directly to the SB6141 cable modem, I have no problems whatsoever.  But whenever I connect through the WRT54G and power cycle both devices, then I have internet connectivity for about an hour before it drops out.  I have noticed my gateway IP address and DNS servers change at that time as well.  I can also force the Linksys to lose connectivity by doing a DHCP release/renew on the Linksys status page.
Is this behavior because of the dual stack (IPv4 and IPv6) coming through the cable modem from Comcast now?  Is there any way I can keep using my WRT54G v6 now that I have the SB6141 cable modem?

You just have to install it correctly.

  • Cascade valet m-10 with wrt54g and wap54

Hello, got a question I Read the article about cascading routers, but still unsure of how i should set up my new valet m-10
Im currently using a WRT54G as my main router connected to my modem in my home office, and a WAP54 set up as a repeater in the living Room. We have multiple devices still using Wireless G, and a few that have Wireless N so im wanting
to use the valet just for my N devices and My WRT54 & WAP54 for the G. So do I just cascade the valet off the WRT54? or should I make the Valet the main Router and cascade the G routers? the reason I have the repeater is because the wireless signal is weak in the living room and bedrooms. any ideas that could help me is appreciated thanks ~=)

If your WRT54G and WAP54G are working then you need not have disturb the connection. As well as if you want to make the WRT54G as the primary router then you can even do that. Second there are two ways to connect a Linksys router to another router:
    1. LAN to LAN – Connecting one of the Ethernet ports (LAN ports) of the second Valet router to one of the Ethernet ports (LAN ports) of the main router.
This connection makes the computers connected to both routers to be on the same LAN IP segment. This will allow sharing of resources within the network.
    2. LAN to WAN – Connecting one of the Ethernet ports (LAN ports) of the main router to the Internet port (WAN port) of the second Valet router.
This connection makes it easier to identify which router the computers are connected to since they will have different LAN IP segments. Thus, computers that are connected to router A will not be able to communicate with router B, and vice versa since they are two different networks.

  • File and print sharing with wrt54g, ver. 6

computers connected to my wrt54g, ver. 6, router (firmware ver 1.01.1) cannot see each other's shared files although they can all share the same internet connection just fine. file and print sharing has been set up on each (they were connected to a wired router before i purchased the wrt54g and they saw each other and shared files, no problem). how can i share files through this router? what went wrong?

Are you running software firewalls on any computer? Has the LAN IP network changed (e.g. it was 192.168.0.* before and now 192.168.1.*)?

  • Both WRT54G and WRT300N stop responding

At one of buildings at our church, we have had a WRT54G acting as an access point. For awhile it would require a reboot about twice a month due to lack of connectivity. About two weeks ago, it would barely function. Our staff could connect to it but connectivity would go down several times a day. After reboot it would work for an hour tops. I pulled out the WRT54G and replace with a WRT300N. The staff experienced the same problem. There are about 8 staff members that connect to the router for LAN and internet access. What could possibly cause the dramatic drop in performance? Given no network changes. When folks connect with wired Ethernet at their desks, they do not experiences any problems. There has been an iMac and an MacBook Pro added to the wireless network. Is it possible at wireless interface is sending spurious/chatty packets? How could I monitor this? An MAC address filter is used for security. No WAP or WPE password security.

try putting the following wireless settings on the router
    ssid  - any non-linksys name
    radio band - wide
    n-channel - 9
    standard channel - 11
also ensure that the router has the latest firmware on it ..

  • WRT54G and Windows 8

Just purchased a new laptop with Windows 8.  Tried to load the software for the router - WRT54G and it would not load.  Error message said it is not compatible with Windows 8.  Will there be a software upgrade or do I need to purchase a new router?

If you will be installing the router with the set up cd, it will not going to work because of the compatibility issue. What you can do instead is to manually install it. I have these links below to guide you with the manual set up for cable or DSL internet connection.

  • WRT54GS V6.0 Slow with Torrents running

    Hello,
    Current Config: WRT54GS  - V6.0  - Firmware Version: v1.52.0  (just updated)
    WAN info:
    All Manually assigned.
LAN - 1 static IP and 1 laptop on dhcp
    Issue:
Normal surfing and downloading is perfect, no issues on a 6MB WAN link. The only issue is when I start up a uTorrent program, then all pings and internet access either drops or goes very slow.
The load on the link is less then 1MB - so there is no issue with the torrent system hanging the link.
I believe the router is not closing open connections, or just is not able to handle the Torrent traffic AT ALL.
    Troubleshooting done so far:
==> Upgraded to latest firmware  (this HELPED, but did not solve issue - less ping drops with new firmware)
==> Tried torrents again WITHOUT ANY ROUTER, this worked pefect!!
==> Tried torrent on different port, same issue.
==> Tried torrent on both machines, no change (only I need to change the port rules on the router).
I do not think this is port forwarding related as I've the correct ports assigned to the torrent machine.
The issue only happens whilest any torrent program is open, it does not even need to be downloading or uploading!
I see a lot of related discussions on this issue on many web sites, but no one has offered an official solution. This is what I'm now requesting.
Router is less then 24hrs old, so I have the option to return it.
    Many Thanks,
    Joe Leavy

Just use DDWRT firmware and all of your issues with the WRT54G and WRT54GS will disappear.
My WRT54GS used to crash every 2 hours to 24 hours, having to Power cycle it every time. It will just loose connection to the internet and dropping Wireless connection. My WRTG4GS was upgraded to DDWRT third party firmware and has never dropped any connection since.
Too Bad linksys does not have a proper testing procedure for their firmware

  • How to get the groups a computer is member of in AD with Quest Powershell?

    Hi all
I would need a script in Quest PowerShell that gathers the groups that multiple computers are member of in Active Directory. I have this script, but what it does is to get USERNAMES from a .txt file and then display the groups
each user is member of in AD. I couldn't modified it so instead of USERNAMES in the txt file I can put computers name, here's the code:
    $out = @()

    $out += $obj
    $out | Export-CSV M:\Tools\Reportes_Power_Shell\Reportes_de_Power_Shell_y_AD_Info\Users_Memberships.csv
