WRT54G and IP Address of Connected Devices

An HP laser printer and a DLink network drive are among the various devices connected to my network via a WRT54G and an eight port switch. Every now and then the IP addresses for these two devices change. With respect to the printer, this means I cannot depend on reliably printing something and  I periodically have to delete the printer and reinstalli it on the various computers. This also presents a problem with the DLink drive because when the address changes the mapping of it as a lettered drive on each computer is no longer valid.
How can I fix the IP addresses of these network devices so it does not change?

Set static IP addresses on the devices. You can't change it on the WRT.
(unless your WRT54G has a firmware which has a dhcp reservation function in the web interface, but think the WRT54G is too old for that. For that it would be helpful to know which model & version you have exactly as printed on the label underneath the router and which firmware version you are running as shown in the web interface).

  • SG200-08 Loosing MAC addresses of connected devices

    I have a SG200-08 Switch that has in the last month been acting up with certain types of traffic.  On June 7, 2013 I installed the 1.0.6.2 firmware upgrading from 1.0.5.1.  Updating the firmware has not helped.
    Last week Tuesday a server that was connected to that switch disappeared from the network, looking at the trouble I had to reboot the server and traffic began to flow.  After rebooting the server I found only 1 of 2 MAC addresses from the 1 NIC showing up on the port.
    Today I have a Xerox Workcenter connected to the switch on another port and while working on changing settings on the device I stopping being able to reach the device, could not even ping it.  I went into the switch port showed active, but no MAC address found in the dynamic table for that port. After rebooting the switch I could reach the Xerox again.
    I rebooted the switch on Friday near the end of the day and it was doing better till this morning, all MAC addresses for connected devices were showing up OK.  Is the device defective?  It had been working OK previously, it is connected to another switch on port 1, and that shows a proper table of dynamic MAC addresses.  In both cases of loosing a device it was being used not dormant or in any kind of low power mode.

    Dear Michael,
    Thank you for reaching Small Business Support Community.
    Based on the symptoms; SG200 working fine before, it seems to work ok after reboot, and latest firmware already installed.  It seems to me like a hardware failure but still, in order to confirm, it would be a good idea to restore to factory conditions and configure it manually again.  Just in case that does not help I suggest you to contact the Small Business Support Center for further assistance;

    Please let me know if there is anything I can assist you with in the meantime.

  • WRT54G can ping internet, but connected devices cannot.

    When I do a factory reset of our WRT54G router and configure it for our setup, everything works fine for a while (undetermined, random amount of time). We use it primarily for wireless access, and connect an iphone, ipad, mac, pc devices to it with no problem and can access the internet fine.
    After some period of time, all devices can still connect to the WRT54G via wireless, but cannot access the internet either by browser or ping/tracert commands. Meanwhile, the WRT54G diagnostics can successfully perform pings and tracerts to both IP address and URLs (so DNS *is* working fine)
    I connected a computer to the WRT54G via cat5 cable while the wireless devices could not access the internet, and the wired computer could *not* access the internet either. However, from the admin section of the WRT54G we could ping/tracert with no problems.
    Any ideas what causes this to drop and what we can do (other than factory reset) to fix it, and perhaps to prevent it?
    ..Rick..

    This isn't a home setup.  My wrt54G is connected to a DMZ switch which is connected to our gateway router and then out to the 100mpbs pipe.
    All of our LAN is working fine, and as I mentioned in the original post, the WRT54G can always ping an external site (both via URL and IP address), as well as being able to do a traceroute.
    When the connected devices can no longer get to the internet through the router, the router can still do the pings and traceroutes, so I conclude that there is no interruption in internet service. It stops at the WRT54G.  It always accepts wireless connections.

  • WRT54GS Access Restriction for WiFi Connected Devices

    I have the WRT54GS v4 running with the latest Firmware Version: v1.06.3 -- I am attempting to add Access Restrictions for a few MAC addresses and IP addresses (my kids iPod Touch and laptop).
    I am simply wanting to deny total internet access from 9pm to 7am.   I have gotten it to work but ONLY for computers that are actually plugged into the router (cat 5 internet cables).  All the computers/devices that connect to the router via wifi do not seem to be restricted at all.   I am thinking this is an issue with the router in that it ONLY seems to apply the Access Restriction rules to those devices that are actually directly connected by hardwire.
    Has any one else noticed this issue for WiFi connected devices?  Access Restrictions do not seem to apply to WiFi connected devices.
    Please help -- I would hate to have to buy another router.

    Are you sure you have enter the correct MAC address or IP address? Wired connections use different MAC and IP addresses then wireless connection...

  • HT3728 how do I see IP addresses of connected devices to my airport extreme

    I'm trying to reuse a Net Gear N600 router I had to shelve since I installed my Airport Extreme router as an access point.  I need to see other IP addresses so I can configure the N600 IP address as 10.0.1.xxx.  The only way to make sure I don't use an already used IP address for the N600 is to see what IP addresses are used by the system.
    The only support I've found here is how to set up a distributed network using other apple airport extreme devices.
    Has anyone done/added a second non-apple router configured as an access point to an airport extreme.  If you have please let me know what you did.  I intend to have the N600 connected via ethernet cable to my airport extreme to extend both my wifi network and connected devices.
    Thanks,
    Steven

  • How to get imei number and mac address of mobile device on adf mobile

    Hi experts,
    I need to get imei number and mac address of device (supposed to be works on both android and iphone) on adf mobile
    bgrds

    Hi,
    Adf mobile support phonegap api. Version must be 2.0(you can check it by below code snippet) You can just reach uuid from both platform via cordova. Espescially, IOS restriction limits you to get device infos that you mentioned, but you can get uuid.
       getCordovaVersion = function ()
            var cordovaVersion = device.cordova;
            return cordovaVersion;
        getDeviceUUID = function ()
            var uuid = device.uuid;
            return uuid;

  • USB Interfaces, Front and Rear not Recognising Connected Devices

    Hi there,
    The problems people been having with connected usb devices is also happening to me, however I must stress that I'm using Genuine Apple Wired Keyboard and Genuine Apple Wired Mouse and I've also tried using my Apple Mighty Mouse. I've also tried using a Microsoft Explorer Wired Mouse.
    I get no response from any usb device since upgrading to 10.9 - Mavericks
    I've tried everything, swapping ports, leads, keyboards, mice etc, etc. I've even tried removing all pci-e cards, but no luck.
    The only way I can get the usb devices to be seen and be able to use them is if I boot up into diagnostics mode, or via using my Micromat Protogé FireWire Stick Drive with TechTool Pro and Disk Warrior on it along with the usual Apple Disk Utilities.
    As I've said previously, I'm using Genuine Apple devices, no Logitech etc devices.
    If anybody out there has any ideas or is experiencing similar issues please reply. Maybe two heads will be better than one.
    Many thanks, Mikee

    I have the same problem. I bought the wired keyboard to save the batteries and it worked on lion without issue. Now since mavericks the wired keyboard does not work. Occasionally it randomly works. If I change ports it still does nothing it just always says it's looking for the Bluetooth keyboard! It's very frustrating. Has anyone discovered a fix yet?

  • RV-042G does not let WAP connected devices access the internet

    I recently replaced our old Netgear router with the RV-042G.  We have 2 wireless access points (Asus RT-N66U) that were both working before the change that now do not.  I was able to ping various external sites from the access point web gui so I know that they are connected and working.  WAP connected devices are able to pull an IP address from the router DHCP.  Is there a setting on the RV-042G that I am missing?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
    Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    However, since it works with other networks that really suggests a problem with your network.

  • Cisco ip to mac address of a device?

    What command can I run in CLI, to get a mac address that is associated with a provided ip address?
    Context: In order to access wifi, users have to go through a web authentication. Upon submiting their credentials, we are able to see their ip address. We want to query router api with cli or something, to find a mac address based on the ip.
    Any pointers?

    It is usually not possible for a person to get the MAC address of a computer from its IP address alone. These two addresses originate from different sources. Simply stated, a computer's own hardware configuration determines its MAC address while the configuration of the network it is connected to determines its IP address.
    However, computers connected to the same TCP/IP local network can determine each other's MAC addresses. The technology called ARP - Address Resolution Protocol included with TCP/IP makes it possible. Using ARP, each computer maintains a list of both IP and MAC addresses for each device it has recently communicated with.
    Most computers allow you to see the list of IP and MAC addresses that ARP has collected there. In Windows, Linux and other operating systems, the command line utility "arp" shows this information. Using "arp," you can in fact determine the MAC address of some computers from their IP address. ARP works only within the small group of computers on a local area network (LAN), though, not across the Internet. ARP is intended for use by system administrators and is not generally useful as a way to track down computers and people on the Internet.

MacPro wireless is self assigning an IP address blocking access. It will connect if I connect to my iPhone hot spot via wifi. Any ideas?

    If you follow this video you'll see how to delete your WiFi AP from the OS, this will allow you to select it again which I feel will correct your problem.

  • Where is the list of connected devices, their MAC id's,and IP addresses

    I used to be able to see list of devices connected to my airport extreme, including their MAC id's and IP addresses. I can no longer find that anywhere. Have they removed that information for AirPort Utility?

    Open AirPort Utility
    Hold down the option key while you double click on the AirPort or Time Capsule icon
    Wireless clients will appear. Click the arrow next to each client for additional information about the MAC address, connection quality, etc.
    Or, you can simply click on the AirPort or Time Capsule icon in AirPort Utility and then look for Wireless Clients. Click each client for more info.
    Ethernet clients do not appear in the newer versions of AirPort Utility.

  • How can I view connected devices and their IP addresses?

    I have a TimeCapsule and I want to see a list of connected devices to my network.  I used to be able to do this with the older version 5.x of the Airport Utility, but can't seem to with the new version 6.
    Specifically, I don't want to just see wireless clients that are connected. I want to be able to see a list of the devices that are connected to the network via an Ethernet cable as well.

    You will need to install v5 utility a tool.. not use v6.. a toy.
    You can install v5 into lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
    For Mountain Lion you can actually use same version above but the installer is not compatible. There are several posts with info about how to do it. It is easy .. download and use unpkg. Drag the pkg of the file you download onto the unpkg and it will create the v5 utility in your desktop.. just drag the 5.6 utility to your utility folder.

  • WES610N - only one MAC address for all connected devices

    Hi! I use a WES610N 4-port WLAN bridge to connect my audio and video devices (Pioneer AV receiver, Samsung TV set and a WD Live TV box) to my E4200 router upstairs. This works fine and the WLAN connection works stable and fast. There's a Synology 212j NAS running DM 3.2 connected to my E4200 router. On this NAS a DLNA/UPnP media server is running to stream audio and video from the NAS to my Receiver, to my TV set and to the WD Live TV box. Audio and video is ok but i also want to send photos from the NAS direct to the TV and WD Live. To see the photos in the correct solution i have to configure a DLNA profile on the media server for each DLNA client which connects to the media server. I have to configute this based on the device name, IP address and MAC address shown in the clinet list of the media server. So far so good - and here's my problem: Every device connected to the WES610N is seen with the same MAC address - the one of the WES610 - by the media server. This confuses the server and it's not possible to assign a DLNA profile to each of the devices (TV, Receiver, WD box) because the IP - MAC pairing always changes when one of the devices sends data packets to the media server. So the assigned profile configuration gets lost and switches back to standard DLNA profile and photos can not be displayed correct by the devices. So what i would need is that every device connected to the WES610N is seen by the media server by it's on MAC address. Is there a solution or are there plans to implement this in future firmware versions? Thx, BR Christian

    You can try the following combination of settings :-
    A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
    1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
    2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
    3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your routers main/ basic setup page)
    4] Then click on Security tab disable SPI Firewall Protection, uncheck Filter Anonymous Internet Requests...
    B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the user name field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.
    Then check the connectivity status...

    I have just updated the i06 software for my iPad and it will not connect to my home wifi network - all my other devices are able to connect to my wifi network.
    I have attempted all troubleshooting actions suggested and nothing has worked. I have restored my iPad network and factory settings - Please help - this is frustrating me

    you have to set up your router to solve th problem. first find and write down the ipad mac address.
    then log on to your router using your laptop or any device that can connect to router at 192.168.0.1 in your web browser. please check out my posting about how to resolve the wifi connection problem.
    i think the ios6 update has reset the networking but if you set up the router then you should not have the same problem any more.
