WRT54G and Trendnet TDM-C400 ADSL modem

Hello guys,
I'm having some major issues here, and hoping maybe the community might be able to help.
Just moved, and with the move I chose to move to another ISP using PPPoE.
So I bought a Trendnet ADSL 2 Modem which, when connected directly in my laptop works fine. However, having a few devices to connect, I wish to use my WRTG54G router.
So what I do is plug in my modem in the INTERNET port of my router, no go. I've tried combining many configurations on the router and the modem, and still... nothing!
I'm desperate!!! lol
Thanks for the help, and don't hesitate if you need more info to help!
Thank you!
Fau

If you need to set PPPoE try to Follow this link , if it is other than PPPoE you cannot set it.

  • Lenovo G550 and Sagem Fast 800 ADSL modem - limits DL speed to approx. 500kbit/s

    Hi,
I bought Lenovo G550 on Tuesday and since then I've got a strange issue with my Internet connection. Until Tuesday I was using Sagem Fast 800 ADSL modem from my ISP on Toshiba Satellite A100-712 notebook since June 2008 with 1Mbit connection and everything was fine - DL speed was 128KB/s (1Mbit/s) as it should, but now on Lenovo the max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s (60KB/s) and I can't overcome it..
I've done the following so far:
    * I have tried on preinstalled  Windows Vista - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I have installed Windows XP Professional SP3, Sagem drivers installed properly, no unknown devices in device manager - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I have installed Windows 7 Professional, Sagem drivers installed properly, no unknown devices in device manager - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I've checked download speed on "real" downloads and DSL testing portals (dsl.cz, speedtest.pl, speedtest2.com) - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I have turned off energy saving on USB and ADSL modems on all 3 Windows OS mentioned, restarted the PC - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I have plugged and checked the download speed on all 3 USB ports - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I have installed cFosSpeed - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I've called  the ISP, they checked the connection (1Mbit shown up in their tests), checked if there are any problems with their infrastructure (nothing was wrong), finally reset my port and asked to check my DL speed - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * the ISP has sent an onsite technician, guy brought his own HP notebook and Sagem Fast 800 modem (just like mine) to check my connection - on his HP laptop both mine and his modems got 1Mbit/s DL speed, and when I tried both modems with my Lenovo G550, guess what -max DL speed I got was ~500kbit/s on both of them (so it's obvious that it's not modem, line or ISP's fault)
It seems that this issue is notebook related. I'm running out of ideas, the last thing I'm going to try today is to run Ubuntu LiveCD and check my DL speed then, but to be honest I don't expect it to change anything.
Could anyone possibly help me? It really sucks to pay for 1Mbit and have real download speed less than half of it.
    Regards,
    PW

  • IMac and SpeedTouch 330 USB ADSL Modem

    Hi all,
A friend of mine just received his iMac, he has got an ADSL 2 Mo connection through a Alcatel speed touch 330 USB.
I've downloaded the last driver for Tiger but the modem doesn't work with iMac altough is working well with PC XP, have you got any idea please ?
    Thanks,

    Hi
    You say ADSL2.
USB modem's dont work very well with mac's(even less with intel mac's) as they need drivers, you will be better off getting a ethernet router/modem like a Netgear DG834G wireless http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DG834G or a 4port http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DG834 no drivers needed so no headaches when the OS get updated and the USB drivers get broken.

  • WRT54G and TRENDnet TEW-421PC

Hi. I have a wireless wrt54g with one pc connected via wire, another via wireless connection. Everything works great. Yesterday I bought a trendnet tew-421pc card for my nc8000 laptop. Did everything as was instructed, but couldn't get a connection. Even though the card can see the router, and after entering the password ( WEP authentication ) the card says that the connection strength is 100%, but instead of 54Mbps it says 1Mbps. And even that is a lie, because there is NO connection at all. For some reason the IP in the connection's properties are messed up. If changing them by hand, I get a message saying that Im connected, but im still not. I see the packets being sent, but nothing received. I tried ALOT of stuff with the card, and now I believe its the WRT54G thats causing this. Any ideas?

Hi… logon to router’s setup page, try changing wireless channel to 1 or 11, go to advanced wireless settings reduce beacon interval to 50, fragmentation and RTS threshold to 2304, change Transmission rate to 54 MBps…also try upgrading latest firmware on router, check whether it makes any difference or not.

  • What is the best ADSL modem to use with AEBS in the UK?

I'm currently using the Netgear DG834G with it's wireless functionality switched off, and my AEBS (gigabit) is set up as a bridge.
When I've tried to resolve various problems such as getting iChat AV working I've got the impression that I might have fewer problems if I let the AEBS do the routing, and simply had an ADSL modem connected to it (rather than a modem/router combo).
What do other people use in the UK, and what success do you have with Skype, iChat etc?
Is there a better way to configure my DG834G so it only acts as a modem? I don't have much technical knowledge in this area, though I have been through the Netgear control panel and sorted out fixed IP addresses.
In some respects, ie. internet browsing, streaming movie trailers on the Apple TV, OS X software updates, all perform perfectly. From that point of view, it seems that there cannot be too much wrong?
A couple of 'by the ways': I also have an Airport Express configured in bridge mode to use with my iPhone and 802.11g MacBook, so that I can keep the Airport Extreme (gigabit) set to work exclusively on 802.11n for maximum performance to the Apple TV. The Extreme and Express are using different frequencies.
I've just ordered the new Mac Pro, which has two Ethernet ports. Is there a way I can put these to good use, for example having a standard network separate from a gigabit network using jumbo frames? I'm sure this is too much to put in one thread, but in a way it's probably best to cover everything together!

I use the Linksys ADSL2MUE - which I managed to buy for £12.
I configured it in bridged mode - leaving the Apple Extreme do all the firewall and DHCP stuff.
It's not pretty but does the job.

  • SKY Adsl Modem - Configured on UC520

    Hi All,
Firstly I hope you are enjoying the holiday season and spending time with family and friends...
I have a quick question: Is it possible to configure the UC520 and one of the ports to be PPPoA and act as an ADSL Modem?
If so could someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks
    Brian
Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings to All

    Hi Brian,
The UC500 doesn´t support PPPoA instead it use PPPoE like Paolo said you have to change the router from your ISP to bridge mode, if you need something about the configuration you can tell me.
If it is useful please rate.
    Best regards.

  • Problem w/ WRT54G connecting with ADSL modem...no Internet even when 'wired' connected

    Hi ladies/gents,
need help...not sure what to do...
i have ADSL modem, and i have a cable running from the modem to the "internet" port of my Linksys router.  i have another cable from Port 1 (or whichever) to my laptop.  modem works/is connected, router works/is connected, cables are good.
YET, i am getting NO internet...forget wireless here...i am just talking about the simple wired connection here and it is not giving me any Internet.  If i disconnect the modem cable from the Internet port and connect directly to laptop, then Internet works fine....frustrating.
i do know that the ISP says that they use Automatic DHCP (or something like that)
    Any ideas!?

This is not really a fix, however, what I found out from having the same problem (Limited or no connectivity) is for some reason my verizon modem (Westell 6100) and the router (Wrt54g) had the same IP address.  I changed the router IP address several time and it would alway end up with the same problem.
What I ended up doing (mind you its for no other reason than I wanted to connect to the internet and was sick of the problem) was connect my modem to the #1 port of the router and use the other three ports for my computers thinking that if they had the same IP address maybe it would work that way.  I know very little about how this stuff work but it did fix my problem.  I have been hooked up that way for months and haven't lost speed or connection since.  I hope this helps and maybe someday someone who know why it works will tell me so I will know.
    Good Luck !!

  • WRT54GS2 and Siemens ADSL modem - dropping Internet connection

I am having an internet connection issue. I have a Win98 Desktop directly connected to an ADSL modem - SIEMENS Speetstream 4100. That connection works well.
I had a WRT54G (old school, blue and black) wireless router connected to it which allowed me to use my WinXP laptop in the house. I then upgraded the router to  a WRT54GS2, and now I lose the connection to the internet every minute or so while connected through that. The connection between the modem and the router goes down, not the connection to either the desktop (wireless) or the laptop. And if I switch to direct connection through the modem, I get a solid, reliable connection to the Internet.
Is there some problem with the SIEMENS ADSL modem and the Linksys router not playing nice together?
I have tried ipconfig /release and /renew on both my laptop and the desktop, I have turned off all computers, modem, and router, and powered back up in the correct order: Modem, router, desktop and laptop.
Here's the output of ipconfig /all when my laptop is connected directly through the ADSL modem:

Why does the new WRT54GS2 lose internet connectivity when a direct connection through the modem does not lose connectivity and the old one was reliable?
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your ADSL modem is in half-bridge mode. It does the PPPoE connection and then passes the IP addresses, etc. through DHCP to the device connected. Several people seem to have problems with different routers and these modems.
I would suggest you reconfigure the ADSL modem into full bridge mode (i.e. the modem works really like a simple modem and does not connect to the internet itself). In full bridge mode you should be able to configure your router with PPPoE and connect to the internet directly. That should work better.
If the ADSL modem is intelligent enough it may automatically switch to full-bridge mode if you configure the router for PPPoE.
You should see the difference in the DNS servers which the router got. In half-bridge mode the ADSL modem seems to assign its own IP address 192.168.0.1 as DNS server. If you connect directly to your ISP you should see the IP addresses of your ISP's DNS servers.

  • Cisco 877W router and external ADSL modem

Cisco 877W router and external ADSL modem
In order to support ADSL2+ on a pre ADSL2+ router and in preparation for a later migration to BT infinity I am trying to configure the Router using an external adsl2+ modem appropriately.
The original configuration had 3 ports configured as one (internal lan) vlan and bridge group together with one wireless sub-interface, the remaining port configured a second vlan and bridge group with a second wireless sub- interface. The Dialer was a member of the second bridge group. This way the second wireless interface and associated bridge group provided a kind of DMZ for outbound access.
The configuration I am attempting is similar the lan ports remain the same, but port 0 as a member of the vlan and bridge group (now a pppoe client) associated with one of the wireless sub interfaces as per above. The ATM interface is downed. This nearly works except that if the wireless subinterface on this bridge group is configured the dialer no longer dials giving a 'no dialer string' error. If I do not configure that wireless sub interface all works well.
If anyone is interested to look I would appreciate any comments. I enclose a sanitised config in which you will note the 'commented out' wireless subnet interface (in red).

    Hi Jody,
Apologies delay in replying. I have done the following:
Made two of the FE ports vlan1,BVI1 (for LAN traffic)
Left one port as VLAN10 as the pppoe client conected to the externalmodem
Made the last port VLAN10 as well and gave it an IP addess as for a DMZ client.
I have DHCP configured to serve the DMZ  addresses.
This all works for LAN clients and also works for a client attachedto that physical DMZ port.
When I added a dot11radio sub interface into VLAN 10 the wireless client did not get an IP lease. Everything else continued to work.
I had never thought about this before, but if a dot11radio interface is on the same vlan (but not being part ofa bridge group) why are DHCP broadcasts not propogating to all the vlan members as I would have expected. I recognise that this isa limit in my understanding.
If I then made VLAN10 a member of a new Bridge Group, I lost WAN connectivity as per original posting.
I cannot add another VLAN due to the 2 vlan limit in this image.
Finally regarding your comment about giving it what it wants, what exactly did you have in mind. The dialer already has a dial string parameters configured.
Think I am about to give upon this.

  • USB ADSL Modem and Airport Extreme?

I have an ADSL modem that I use to connect my Powerbook, using a USB connection. I have now got an Airport Extreme Base Station. I have only managed to connect to my ADSL modem directly to my computer (sitting on an uncomfortable floor) if I want to use broadband; OR connect wirelessly to the internet with Airport but using the dial-up phone line.
Main Q: How do I connect to broad band wirelessly?
Q1: Do I need to buy an ADSL modem with an ethernet port connection to connect into the base station
Q2: if so, which one should i get?
    OR
Q3: Can the USB port on the base station be used with my current ADSL modem?
Q4: Am I asking the impossible or missing something?
Sorry if I haven't used correct language, as I am still new to all this!

You will need a new ethernet equipped modem to connect to any router, either Apple's or another manufacturer. USB modems cannot be networked. There are adsl modem/wireless router combos, or you can get an ethernet adsl modem and connect it to any wireless router, or ethernet router with an attached wireless access point.
Q1: Do I need to buy an ADSL modem with an ethernet

    Yes.

These guys provide excellent Mac support, including AirPort:

    Definitely not.

If you intend on trying to network using a usb modem, you are asking the impossible. Wireless networking is easy, given the right kit.

  • Networking with USB ADSL modem (and AOL)

    hi there,
just purchased first mac (macbook), and want to get it online.
i have a windows desktop connected to AOL with a USB ADSL modem, and would like my Macbook to be able to be wirelessly connected to the internet.
I understand that having AOL and a USB modem can be problematic in setting up a wireless network.
Can anybody offer me any help, i.e what routers to buy and how to set it up? or even just link me to a similar topic?
    thanks very much in advance.
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.83 Ghz, 80Gb, 1Gb mem

    Hi andwhy
as Duane suggest you need to replace the usb modem.
You can get a wireless adsl router for about £50.
USB modem cann be networked unless you use your pc as a gateway. This would involve install router software on the pc, then you would need to get a wireless access point connected to the pc.
So it is much simpler and more cost effective to use a wireless ADSL router.
I would check out the adsl routers you can get from http://www.solwise.co.uk

  • What ADSL modem do you advise to use with my new airport extreme? I have tried a basic TP-Link ADSL2  modem and I can't get the configuration working. What modem does Apple recommend?

What ADSL modem do you advise to use with my new airport extreme? I have tried a basic TP-Link ADSL2+  modem and I can't get the configuration working. What modem does Apple recommend?

Ok well I have looked around some more and have found this to be the most up to date official response to my question as seen at this link here:
    http://www.actiontec.com/support/product_details.php?pid=41#q27
Can I Bridge the Actiontec MI424WR router that Verizon provided, when I signed up for FiOS service?
The MI424WR does not have a bridging option, and neither Verizon nor Actiontec support attempting to bridge it.
The desire to bridge the MI424WR is based on a misunderstanding that it is a modem as well as a router. Actiontec does produce DSL Gateways that have a Transparent-Bridging option, which bypasses or disables the router function and allows the Gateway to act simply as a DSL modem, when it is enabled. Many consumers do not realize that with FiOS, the ONT (typically outside the home) is the device that handles changing the FiOS signal from Fiber to either Ethernet or Coax, and that the Router is just a Router, and if it was bridged or bypassed, it would be a device without a function. For most Verizon FiOS customers their service would completely stop if the MI424WR was bridged, because the Video on Demand service is dependent on it to work.
If your ONT is connected to the Actiontec MI424WR router via Coax, the MI424WR is required due to the Coax connection. But if the ONT is connected to the MI424WR via Ethernet, then in most cases some other router can be substituted for the MI424WR, and it can be removed."
So it looks like I will be calling Verizon support to see about getting the Ethernet connection installed and getting another modem...

  • WOL - add router between ADSL modem and computer?

    Hi
My computer is connected to a Livebox ADSL modem (the Sagem F@ast 3202).
I am trying set the system up so it wakes up from sleep at the reception of a magic packet from the internet. I have forwarded port 9 as per instrux on the web. The computer wakes up only sporadically though.
I read long ago somewhere online (but can't for the life of me find it) that one can add another router (between the Livebox and the computer, I assume) which would "listen" for the magic packet and then wake up the computer.
I happen to have an old DLink DSL-604+. Is this something I could add to the chain of equipment to make the setup more stable? If so, how should the DLink be configured?
    Thanks for any insight.
    /p

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I've looked in the settings on the Livebox and find, under the Firewall tab, something called Access control. It lets me defined a username, password and port using which I may access the Livebox's setup page from the internet.
Apart from this, I find under the Firewall tab something called Policies and NAT but neither appears to be relevant to me. If there's any other disconnect setting I can't find it. I guess it could be in the flash ROM somewhere.
My test indicates that I can access the Livebox setup page without the computer having to be on (obvious). Is there some way to start a sleeping computer from within such a setup page (longshot)?
    /p

  • HT1178 How setup and configure time capsule with ADSL modem for WiFi internet

For my first time time capsule 2TB set up,would like to know about configuration time capsule with ADSL modem for use WiFi internet!

You will want to turn off the WiFi on your modem (if there is WiFi on your modem). Connect the TC and the modem together with an Ethernet cable. Then, turn on your TC and set it up to be in bridged mode, connection type 'Ethernet'.

  • K7n420 nforce1 Board and ADSL Modem combination

    Hi Guys,
I am thinking on switching over to broadband internet thus jumping from my 56Kbps analog modem to an ADSL ((PSTN) modem and i have a couple of questions for the members who have a personal experience with this matter using the nforce1 k7n420 Motherboard. Lets shoot...
     1) What to prefer??... ADSL USB or ADSL Ethernet (LAN)?? Remember k7n420 has only usb 1.1 ports and not usb 2.
    2) Any known problems and suggested workarounds connecting the k7n420 and an adsl modem via usb or LAN???   (any links will be most appreciated )
    3) which is best?? ADSL using a splitter or ADSL using filters??
    That's All...for now...
    God Bless You All :hypecrite:

Is it possible to have both, modem and phone device using the splitter??.. as far as i know it is not. That is why i prefer the filters instead.
What you mean by quality of cables?? can you be more specific??
Yes, it is possible to have both using a splitter still. Most wires have at least 2 pairs or 4 wires running under the sheath. You can run voice on two wires ( In the U.S.A. it's typically Red and Green) and your data on the second pair ( Yellow and black) It keeps the signals isolated. / What I mean about quality wire is whether or not it's twisted pair. Under the sheath the pairs are twisted to reduce inductive overflow for example cat 3 is twisted 3X per inch, where cat 5 is twisted 5X per inch. The more twists, the less inductive bleed over. Inexpensive wire used by many contractors in homes today is not twisted at all which can cause problems. That's why I said the optimal would be to have a separate wire going to the computer. When a DSL line is installed the technician checks for good levels where it hits the building, using poor quality wire or having extra wire beyond the drop (bridge tap) can cause your level to drop which in turn reduces your speed and performance.
Hope that explains it a little bit more for you.
    Cheers
    Bob
