WRT54G can connect to router but not internet

A few days ago, I stopped being able to connect to the internet through my router. I have a desktop which is connected to my cable modem. My desktop connection works fine, but I cannot connect wirelessly with my laptop. Even if I connect a wired connection to my router, it will not connect to the internet. I have tried updating firmware and that did not help. When I try to diagnose the problem through windows, it tells me that "There may be a problem with the DNS". Also, when I look at the status tab in the router site, it shows that the IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway are all 0.0.0.0. Any ideas?

hey guys you have your connections the wrong way...
here's what your connection should be the cable modem should always be connected to the router, that means that the desktop (which is online) should not be connected to the modem...because, the your modem might only give out one ip address that means only ONE device behind the modem can go online, now either the router or the desktop gets the internet connection.so if your desktop is the one getting the ip address from the modem, so make sure that the modem is connected to the ROUTER ONLY...
after connecting the modem to the router, connect the computer at the back of the router, so all the devices should be connected behind the router. in that way the router could get the internet connection from the modem and the router could give multiple ip addresses on all of the devices or computers that you're gonna connect to the router...
then if ever the router still doesn't give internet connection try resetting the router and try to reconfigure it as well....

  • Help - Can Connect to Router but not Internet

I just upgraded to a new hard drive.  After reinstalling Windows XP, I tried to connect to my router (WRT54GS) which is working fine, but can't connect to the internet.  This is a second laptop (first still connected to internet just fine).  I've tried connecting directly to the router via ethernet cable and wirelessly, but can't connect to the internet either way.  I'm looking for any advice on how to resolve!  Thanks!!

Connect the computer to the router .... access web interface of the router ....
Look for MAC address clone sub-tab .... under setup tab .... click enable & clone ..... click save settings ....
Go to status tab ..... look for internet ip address  ....
    Do power cycle ....
Check if you are online or not .....

  • Can connect to router but not internet, please help!

I was searching, but couldn't find a thread with my symptoms...please redirect me if needed.
however, I just got a brand new dell that is running vista premium, and I put my belkin wireless card that I was using in my old pc into the new one.  found my network, applied to wep key and connected to the router without any problem...
but I can't go online!  I never had a problem before, and I am using the same wireless card.  my signal is excellent, so what might my problem be?  I already tried rebooting the router, but no results.  I had the same problem several months ago with my wife's laptop when we first got FIOS...but for the life of me I can't remember how I fixed it.
any suggestions?  thank you so much in advance

It sounds like your laptop doesn't have any - or the right - IP configuration.  When you went through the network setup, did you tell it to use DHCP?
Some things to try (note, this is for XP but I'm guessing it hasn't change *too* much for vista):
From a command window, try typing:
    ipconfig
It should show you your IP address and a default route (something other than zeros, probably a 192.168.x.x address).
If you don't get a valid IP and route, try  running: ipconfig /renew
See if you can get to the router by pinging the default gateway address (from the ipconfig command). E.g.:
      ping 192.168.0.1
If you still have no luck, try resetting the connection via the Network Connections panel:
     Start->Control Panel
     Double click Network Connections
     Check for DHCP:
Right click on the wireless connection and select Properties
Click on Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click Properties
Make sure that "Obtain IP address automatically" is selected.
       Click OK in both boxes.
Right click on the wireless connection and select Repair
If it still doesn't work, try right clicking on your wireless connection and select Disable, then again and select Enable and then Repair.

  • On Windows Xp machines, can connect to router but not internet

Yesterday, I bought an Airport Extreme to replace my current router. I setup my network successfully and my macbook can connect fine. However, I have 2 Microsoft XP machines that can connect to the router (it sees it and connects), but I can't access the internet from these machines. For my network, I had to use a bridge mode. Any suggestions?

    Solution:
    1.Connect to internet via LAN
2.Open browser to be sure you are connecting to the internet via LAN.
3.Open up Airport utility from the PC
4.Be sure you still have a wireless connection to the base station
5.Open Airport Set up system while still connected to the internet via LAN.
6.Run through system set up with the same settings, or different just as long as the base station reboots while you are connected to internet via LAN.
7.After base station reboots, disconnect LAN cord, or disable LAN connection.
8.After LAN is disconnected, try opening up a browser via your wireless connection.
9.For me I was reconnected to internet via my wireless connection.

  • Cannot find PPoE host, can connect to router but not internet

I've been having trouble since I tried using the router. At first, I had no security, then I set up the security and couldn't connect to the router. That finally solved, sometimes when trying to connect to the router, I get the message cannot find PPoE host. But, my connection continues to show that it is strong in the bar at the top.
So, I try to get on the internet -- Safari, Firefox -- no go.
I run network diagnostics and the first three settings are lit, but the ISP, Internet and Server all show as failed.
I'm connecting via airport and a linksys router.
    Thanks for any help

You'll have to go into your router's settings and make sure they're correct. When you connect to the internet through a router, the router has to be set up with the appropriate IP information (like setting it for PPPoE). If you have set your router up properly, then all you have to do is connect your Mac to it, either wirelessly or over ethernet, and it should auto-configure if you have your Network settings on "DHCP" (not the manual DHCP, though). You will get an IP address assigned by your router if it worked.
Hope that helps. Networking is always confusing.

  • Can connect to router, but not internet

I just recently have been unable to connect to the internet.  I have tried everything, reset network settings, reboot ipad, router, and computer.  I show the wifi locations and when I select them I show the bars, but when I go to the internet I get an error message.  My Iphone is doing the same thing.

    Bruce F wrote:
Yes, my Windows computers connect with no problem.  All my Apple products are having issues; either very slow connection or timing out.  I haven't tried them at other locations, but will when I get a chance.
Actually, Ralph's question was to tclowers who started this thread. Perhaps to avoid confusion you should start a new discussion specifically for your problem.

  • Can connect to router, but not to internet

About a week ago, my whole wireless setup stopped working. I have a BEFW11S4 v.4 router and a WPC54G v3 notebook adapter. I tried the hard reset on the router and taking to security off the wireless. I can connect to the router, but not the internet. What am I doing wrong? I can connect directly using the DSL modem.

If you are getting Ip address in the range of 192.168.1.X ....with gateway 192.168.1.1 .... change the Local Ip address to 192.168.2.1 ...click save settings ....

  • Connect to router but not internet

I recently got a WRT54G Wireless router and easily configured it to run on my Mac but when I try to set it up for my PC it will ping the router but nothing on the internet. Can anyone help me figure out how to setup the corrrect connection on a Xindows XP. My service provider gave me no password or login name to get on the internet.

I've got the same problem.  The Linksys Wireless Monitor says that it's connected to the access point, but the internet can not be found.  It sometimes indicates that it's connected to the internet for a moment or two, then loses it.  We have 3 computers and this problem is only happening with one of them.  The computer in question just started having this problem.  It previously worked fine.
Despite indicating that it's connected to the access point, I can not connect to the router's admin interface.
I tried safe mode with networking, but still wasn't able to connect.
    Any more ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Can connect to router but not ad hoc network. Works fine with iPhone.

My brand new ipad on ios 3.2.2 connects fine to my router and my jailbroken iphone running Mywi. However, I cant connect to an ad hoc network set up on my laptop running vista. My iphone connects to the ad hoc without any problems. I've tried everything, static ips, wep, wpa, hard resets, restoring, resetting network settings but no go. How can' everything else be fine but not connecting to the ad hoc network, especially since it works fine to connect with the iphone?
Btw, the ad hoc is for controlling music software on the laptop through wifi. It's not for getting internet.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
    Many thanks,
    L

Hi and welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Did you try doing a search, upper right corner of this window, on remote control? There have been a number of discussions during the last two weeks about remote control problems.
There have also been discussions about networking an iPad via another computer, such as iMac or MacBook Pro, using the computer's wireless card rather than a router.
See if one of those will answer your question.

  • Can connect to intranet but not internet

We have a machine which can connect to the intranet but not the internet.
I didn't set it up initially but all the Network and Sharing settings are correct as far as I can tell; they're are the same as our other machines (which can connect to the internet).
Firewall is on, as per other machines, and IP details are configured manually, as per other machines, including DNS Servers.
I've tried resetting out ADSL modem and Switch, to no avail. I have also noticed that the fan on our Switch has stopped working so there's a chance that it may be damaged and causing the problem, however I would expect not to be able to connect to the intranet if this was the case.
    Any ideas?

  • IMac G3 DV 400 running 9.2.2 can connect to router but not beyond

I've connected my iMac to an ethernet port on my router. I can browse from the to the router page. 192.168.0.1 .
My iMac is setup with the TCP/IP installed. The system profiler shows the default gateway, domain, and names server all point to the router.
What am I missing? I can't access ANY web page.

169.254,xxx.yyy is the "self-assigned" IP address range. Your Mac gives itself that address when it powers up, then broadcasts a request for a new IP Address.
It appears your Router is not providing an IP address. This could indicate that dispensing IP Addresses is turned OFF in your Router, and no other Router is available to provide a sensible IP Address.
Check your Router configuration to make sure it will supply IP Addresses in the proper range using DHCP. It may also be called Network Address Translation NAT. The Router is supposed to give you IP Addresses that are strictly local (which 192.168 addresses and a few other ranges are) then act as your agent on the Internet, using its own IP Address (established either by the "magic numbers" and/or name&password supplied by your Internet Service Provider and entered into your Router, or by using DHCP to get an IP{ Address from another Router upstream.

Brand new IPad 2 user:  I am setting up unit right out of box. Can connect with my Verizon FIOS Wifi with IPad and have strong signal.
Cannot now connect to the internet via Safari. Have tried several of the solutions offered in Apple manuals such as cleaning out network settings and starting over, but to no avail.
I have also gone to the Verozon support website for clues.
Any IPad2 users under Verizon out there?

  • Can connect to network but not internet

In trying to secure my wireless network, I connect to my network, but I am unable to get to the internet with the wireless security enabled. I have no problems connecting over the wireless when I disable the security.
I have a linksys broadband router.
I use a Mac book with intel chip that I am trying to connect wirelessly. I also have an older imac that is connected directly to the router that I was trying to share files.
I was trying to setup WEP- I know very little about network protection. I have had a router for a couple of years and when I was trying to set it up so I could share iles I realized it was not protected. At the linksys website I had several options, but experienced the same problem (I had a strong network connection, but unable to connect to the internet) no matter which encryption option I chose.
The error meeaage says that is unable to connect
    Thanks

    Hi.
I assume that you have a linksys router plugged into an airport express.
First off, seeing as you have a macbook you should use WPA2 instead of WEP as it is more secure. You can select this option in the airport admin utility on the main page. Make up a password enter it and click apply. The express will update. Then, when you select your network from the airport icon on the top of your screen it will prompt you to choose the type of security on the network (which will be WPA2 and after selecting this it will then propmt you to enter the password. Enter the password again (checking the keychain box as well) and this should be it.

  • Can connect to network but not internet. Please Help!!!!!!!!!

I have a Thinkpad T-60p and have encountered a serious problem; I am unable to connect to the internet. The Thinkpad will recognize and connect to wireless networks but when I go to actually open a webpage it does not open. I spent hours troubleshooting the problem to no avail. My other laptop connects to the internet fine, so I do not think it is an issue with my router or modem. I also went to my neighbors and I was unable to connect to the internet even though I could connect to his network; once again my second computer does not have a problem. I tried what I could in the Thinkvantage wireless software but I am not that familiar with it. When I use the test connection option it just reads, “unable to connect to internet” but I have a strong signal to my network. I then tried a wired connection directly to my cable modem and my neighbors; once again it showed that I have a connection, but still will not connect to the internet. I tried disabling my Firewall and Virus software and still could not connect. I have shutdown, unplugged and reset everything. I still receive the same results. I am not sure what has happened, I have not installed any new software or hardware recently. The computer has been working great up until this morning. I ran my virus software and a free online scan as well, nothing had been detected. I called tech support and they said it was a software issue to either pay $100 for help or post in the forum. The only other option I can think of is a complete systems restore, which I am trying to avoid. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Please Help,
    P.

I will try that when I get home from work, thank you for the advice. However,I did notice that when it attempts to connect it shows the IP Address in the IE window bottom left corner. In the past it would always read connecting to "website name" but since the problem started it shows the IP address instead of the actual name.
