WRT54G can ping internet, but connected devices cannot.

When I do a factory reset of our WRT54G router and configure it for our setup, everything works fine for a while (undetermined, random amount of time). We use it primarily for wireless access, and connect an iphone, ipad, mac, pc devices to it with no problem and can access the internet fine.
After some period of time, all devices can still connect to the WRT54G via wireless, but cannot access the internet either by browser or ping/tracert commands. Meanwhile, the WRT54G diagnostics can successfully perform pings and tracerts to both IP address and URLs (so DNS *is* working fine)
I connected a computer to the WRT54G via cat5 cable while the wireless devices could not access the internet, and the wired computer could *not* access the internet either. However, from the admin section of the WRT54G we could ping/tracert with no problems.
Any ideas what causes this to drop and what we can do (other than factory reset) to fix it, and perhaps to prevent it?

This isn't a home setup.  My wrt54G is connected to a DMZ switch which is connected to our gateway router and then out to the 100mpbs pipe.
All of our LAN is working fine, and as I mentioned in the original post, the WRT54G can always ping an external site (both via URL and IP address), as well as being able to do a traceroute.
When the connected devices can no longer get to the internet through the router, the router can still do the pings and traceroutes, so I conclude that there is no interruption in internet service. It stops at the WRT54G.  It always accepts wireless connections.

    Her's what I did---- Go to WiFi where connection name appears .
    Open connection to see info.
    Go down to where it says http proxy and turn that off.
    go to main screen and connect to internet as usual.

  • In my small office ethernet network all of a sudden one of my imacs cannot be connected to. It can connect to all other computers and can access internet, but as soon as someone tries to connect to that mac, it disconnects from the network. Any ideas

    I have a network of 9 macs that connect via ethernet and a router. All of a sudden one of the macs cannot be connected to. It can connect to all others and the internet, but no one can connect to that one. I have appletalk active and file sharing on, but everytime someone tries to connect to it, it is not on the network. Additionally, the personal file sharing keeps turning off even though I have it locked. Any ideas?

  • Can see internet but cannot see modem

    I have several machines and printers in my house, all of them are in some way - with or without wires - connected to the AEBS. System works great! I recently moved from dial-up (through the AEBS) to WiMAX. What a difference!
    While I have many machines in the house, I have reduced the set-up for this testing to the two scenarios presented. Using the Motorola Canopy modem connected via ethernet to PowerBook, I can use the internet and see the modem diagnostics page. Using the Canopy connected to AEBS via ethernet to the WAN port and wireless (802.11) to the PowerBook, I can see the internet but I cannot see the modem diagnostics page. I believe that it has something to do with the way I am setting options in the AEBS (or maybe the PowerBook), but I have not been able to figure it out. Can some-one please help?
    Note: While I am using the Motorola Canopy modem, I don't think that matters, I think that any cable or DSL modem would do the same thing.

    You question was about a Zyxel modem, but you indicate that you have other equipment...an AirPort Express, Airport Extreme, etc.
    Is the Zyxel "modem" your only modem/router?
    Or, do you have other Apple routers connected to the Zyxel "modem"?
    Changes are, although the Zyxel device may be called a "modem", it is really a gateway....a combination modem and router in one box.
    Can you provide the model number of your "modem"?

    I am using PIX 501 to setup a VPN. At first the VPN client cannot access the internet once they logged in via the Cisco system vpn client, so i enable split tunneling.   • Cisco ASA 5505 can ping gateway but can't ping internet

    Good day to all!
    Sorry if I post this on the wrong group, I am having a bit of a problem on configuring an ASA 5505 firewall. And I scoured google but can't seem to find a specific link to my issues.
    It is on a routed mode, have successfully configured inside and outside vlans. Hosts inside vlan can ping each other. Hosts on outside vlan can also ping each other. Problem is, when I am pinging 8.8.8.8, I received ????? Please see config below.

    Remove these lines:

    If you have more inside subnets need access to internet, please make sure that you have a static route in place as shown below.

  • 10.6.8 can ping /trace but no connection online

    hi there i was using my macbook this morning and closed it all down and went out all day, came home powerd up my macbook pro again and none of my online services worked (dropbox, skype, google drive) then i tried to collect my email and the same, so i thought i would  try the browser same..
    so i fired up terminal and stated pinging the outside work (www.bbc.co.uk) i got good healthy pings back so i decided to do traceroute and that was the same, mmm i thought...
    so i pinged the default gateway on my router the same all good and then the same again with the dns servers still the same ... so i disabled my wireless connection and fired up the my other dektop mac and tested that that's working fine... then i connected a ethernet cable to my macbook same thing i can ping /trace ok but i can not get and outside connection.  very strange so i thought i know i will chnage the dns servers to google 8.8.8.8 and  4.4.4.4 same thing mmmm so i  fired up disk utility and checked the  permissions all fine... so if my other mac is working fine and this one is not ok i though i will create a new user account on the macbook and test that nope still the same.. *scatchers chin*  so i opend terminal again and ran these commands "sudo killall mDNSResponder" and also this one sudo "dscacheutil -flushcache"
    Nope nothing seems to work i have rebooted and ran the latest combo update to see if that repairs anything no nothing i am at a loss now, i really need  my macbook working on the old back up desktop is a nightmare and i have the feeling that i will have to start backing everything up and reinstalling LONG JOB!
    i would appriciate any advice or pointers that you can give me to fix this and get it working before i have to reinstall it

  • Workstations can ping servers, but servers cannot ping workstations

    We are setting up a new network using two Dell servers, one T420 and the other T320, both which are running Windows Server 2008 R2. Upon setting up the domain, we have come to find out that all workstations can ping the terminal and domain controller but
    the servers cannot ping the workstations. Also the workstations will not stay on the domain, they change back to unidentified network upon restarting. Any help would  be great, Thanks in advance.

    1.Make sure that each server has static network settings. Do not use DHCP to configure the network settings of your servers. Also make sure to provide exclusions for the range of static addresses for your servers.
    2.DC should have its own address as primary and 127.0.0.1 as secondary (assumes single DNS server)
    3.Make sure that a domain controller providing DNS services is up and running when any computer reboots. If single DC it may take 5 minutes or more for DNS to start up when rebooted. (always best to have at least two DC's for redundancy / disaster recovery)

    Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…

    Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
    On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.

  • WRT54GS Access Restriction for WiFi Connected Devices

    I have the WRT54GS v4 running with the latest Firmware Version: v1.06.3 -- I am attempting to add Access Restrictions for a few MAC addresses and IP addresses (my kids iPod Touch and laptop).   
    I am simply wanting to deny total internet access from 9pm to 7am.   I have gotten it to work but ONLY for computers that are actually plugged into the router (cat 5 internet cables).  All the computers/devices that connect to the router via wifi do not seem to be restricted at all.   I am thinking this is an issue with the router in that it ONLY seems to apply the Access Restriction rules to those devices that are actually directly connected by hardwire.
    Has any one else noticed this issue for WiFi connected devices?  Access Restrictions do not seem to apply to WiFi connected devices.
    Please help -- I would hate to have to buy another router.

    Are you sure you have enter the correct MAC address or IP address? Wired connections use different MAC and IP addresses then wireless connection...

    No matter what driver i install (and ive tried every Askey/Atheros etc driver from the first 20+ pages of yahoo/google) the card installs fine but then in device manager has a yellow ! next to it and says This device cannot start (code 10)
    I'm really stumped. I have some more ram coming in a few days at which point i shall be installng Vista which im hoping sorts my problems out but does anyone have any ideas?
    I've yet to find a driver which specifically refers to the AR5BRB or the model number WLL3070-D4.
    Does anyone have a location for a driver etc?

  • Mail and Safari no longer connect to the Internet, but connection is live?

    I have a Quicksilver G4 running OSX 10.4.11 with Safari 3.0.4 and Mail 2.1.3, connected to the Internet via Ethernet and a BT home Hub setup. Recently the Mac refused to connect to the Internet although a PC connected to the same hub did. I tested the connection with a laptop and found the cable to be fine and a good connection. I ran system diagnostics which tells me the Mac is connected to the Internet and the connection is fine - except that Mail no longer sends or receives mail, and Safari tells me I am not connected to the Internet.
    I've tried every test I can think of - the connection appears fine as far as the ethernet cable, Network Diagnostics state that I have a good connection, yet neither application will connect to the server. I have changed no software in years other than Apple updates, and this is the first problem in many months of trouble-free usage.
    The BT Home Hub is showing as an active location in system profiler, all else that should be, appears enabled. Can anyone help?
    What more can I do to get my Mac back on-line?

    In System Preferences>Network>Proxies Tab, make sure none are checked ON.
    Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Airport Interface...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply
    DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
    So if you put 17.149.160.49 in Safari's URL bar & it connects to Apple, then these DNS numbers should cure it.
