  • My macbook internet download speed is extremely slow. I have tried other computers both windows and mac on the same line and speeds are normal. What is the problem?

My macbook internet download speed is extremely slow. I have tried 2 other computers, another mac and windows and the download speed is over 10mb but with this macbook pro it is less than 1mb. What is causing this and how to fix?

To find out how much space you have & what is left, open up Disk Utility/Machintosh HD/First Aid.  The info will be at the bottom of the window.
Sluggish Finder - Bunch of icons on your desktop?  An overcrowded desktop slows down your Mac.
Get rid of needless Finder calculations - Open a window in Finder/View/Show View Options:  ensure "Calculate All Sizes" option is unchecked.
Internet related - It's likely that your broadband connection is the bottleneck.  You can check your speed on http://www.speedtest.net to see how fast your connection is.  If your web browser specifically performs slowly, quit and relaunch it.
If browser remains sluggish, empty its cache.
    Safari/Empty Cache
Firefox/Preferences - select the Network tab of the Advanced preferences and click the "Clear Now" button in the "Offline Storage" area.
Application related - Launch "Activity Monitor" - Applications/Utilities - click the CPU heading and see what float to the top.  If an application takes up a large chunk of CPU and won't let it go, it could be dragging down your Mac's performance.  Quit it by clicking the Quit Process button at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
Too little ram - max out your ram.
Solution may be found if you search in the "More Like This" section over in the right column.

  • WRT54G download speeds

I have a 10Mbs DSL service. When I connect my PC directly to the DSL modem (Speedstream 6520), I can get full 10Mbs download.
When I set my modem to bridging mode and set up my WRT54G (ver. 6) between the modem and the PC, my download speed drops back to around 600Kbs.
Any thoughts on why this is and what can be done to fix it? Any and all help appreciated.

Good call... the wired speed (through the Linksys) also checks out to be the full 7Mbs.
Any recommendations on how to start troubleshooting the Wireless connection?
    Here are my settings:
Channel 2 (also tried 6 and 10 without any impact)

  • Download speeds are very slow but speed test is fi...

Hi, I did a speed test which returned a result of 36mb down and 8mb up so didn't really expect a slow download. I started a download on the iplayer which normally downloads at 28-30mb per second but it didn't get above 4mb which is not good.
    Anyone experiencing slow download speeds?

Speeds have gone back up to 21mb on the iplayer. Much better but still slower than usual.
When you get used to the fast speeds of Infinity, anything slower is immediately frustrating. Like having to go back to using my Pentium 75Mhz with windows 95.......horror

  • Help! Play store download speeds are extremely slow

Hey guys, I just got my galaxy s4 a couple of days ago and I am just encountering a new problem. When I try to download an app from the play store it takes FOREVER to download it, I'm talking 10kb/s. Does anyone know of this problem and a solution for it? Thanks a ton!

        Good morning tony12345,
Let's speed things up for you! Your Galaxy S4 is capable of much faster downloading speeds. Ensure that LTE/CDMA is selected http://vz.to/18J32hS and make sure to disable WiFi. Also confirm your coverage signal http://bit.ly/qQR9lM as low speeds are normal for areas with extended coverage.

  • Fast download speed but very slow web browsing

    Hi all,
Ive had BT fibre optic installed as i could never watch netflix and browse on the internet at the same time on regular broadband. So when i run a speed test its showing 78mbs download with abouth 19mbs upload. However every page a go on is taking about 30seconds to open even google.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks simon

    hi
can you run the speed test again and post the screen shots. please run using ethernet cable.
http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/  after the first test run further diagnostics by entering phone number in top box.
    also run this https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
i had similar problems when first installed due to contractor refusing to move my hub upstairs so i had to run on wifi.
even though at the time i was getting 30-40mbps it seemed slower than my previous 6mbps standard broadband.

  • WRT54GS Download Speed?

I just did a test on my wireless conection via a Dell Inspiron E1405 and direct connect to cable broadband then wireless to the broadband. The cable provider Time Warner via RoadRunner has a 7Mbps service which I am now on. My previous connection was 3Mbps. Checking the speed with Surfspeed, 2Wire, Speakeasy, etc, shows my connection speed remains the same as when I was on the 3Mbps service. If I connect to the cable modem directly eliminating the WRT54GS connection, my connection speed increases dramatically. Example, using www.2wire.com, direct connect I run at 6Mbps on the 7Mpbs connection. When using the wireless connection, it drops to 1.5Mbps. These times vary with the speed connection program used, but the speed % comparison remains the same. Why does the wireless connection slow down the data transfer rate? Assuredly it's the WRTY54GS but why?

Hmmm... I'm not really sure... but hopefully these facts help...
G routers operate on 54 mbps wireless networking speed... since you are using a Speedbooster... if it has its partnered GS card... then 54mbps should be boosted by at most 30%.....
Maybe you could try channels... suggested value would be 11.

  • I just bought a Macbook Pro 13inch and the download speed is super slow! Why??

I bought a Macbook Pro 13inch 750gb laptop and i'm trying to download the updates it say's I need and it is taking way longer than I've ever had a computer download, why is it so slow? Is something wrong with my new laptop? My frist Macbook Pro from 2007 is faster than this crap! What's up with that?
I even have it connected through ethernet to the internet and it say's download time: 7 to 8 hours and never gets anywhere, i've been trying all day

We recently changed our internet because it was previously too slow but this one seems even worse. It's progressively slowing down more and more.
Example: When watching Netflix on my Wii and surfing the web via Computer the Nexflix will go down or have to reload. I'm going to have to call Centurylink because this is rediculous. Maybe it's the area our house is located? Or I hope nobody has cracked my internet and is using it without permission...
I'm glad to know it's not my new Mac. (Because i'd have a hissy fit if it was.)
But I still feel like my previous Macbook Pro was a tad faster, which doesn't make sense, right...?

  • WAP321 slow download speeds

    Hi!
I have a WAP321 access point in a home environment, powered by PoE, and sharing two VLANs with VAPs, one home network, and one guest network.
The problem I have is that my download speeds are very slow, while my upload speeds are fine. I usually get around 20-40 Mbps down (access point to device), and 60-70 Mbps up (device to access point). This is tested both with speedtest (I have 100/100 fiber) and iperf on the local network.
I am happy with the upload speeds, and would like to have similar download speeds.
The only thing I can think of that would have this effect is QoS, but I can't find a way to turn QoS off completely. I don't really need QoS at this point. I have these QoS settings right now:
I need to use mixed n/g mode for compatibility, but I have tried 5 GHz and there was no difference. I have also tried different channels but found that channel 6 that I was already using was the best. I have also tried to use 100% transmit power with no difference. 20/40MHz was slower than 20 MHz.
My diagnostics file is attached. Any help would be appreciated.
    /Erik

  • E1500 - Slow Download Speed.

Problem with linksys e1500 wireless,., its download speed is too slow while upload is good(wired connection is beast).,,, anyone can help me with the download speed??

Issue in hand seems to be a bit different as reviews for your Linksys router, E1500, says a different story and proves to be a better one in comparison as your Linksys E1500 router works on the Speedbooster technique which makes it different....

  • The download speed in iTunes on mac is very very slow.

The download speed in iTunes on mac is very very slow (One film - 180 hours download time ???). I did a download via IPad, too. Via iPad the download was finished after 30 minutes.
    Regards

Okay. I found the mistake. TimeMachine made backups on TimeCapsule (700 GB). So I had no more free space on TimeCapsule. Because the mediathek is on TimeCapsule, too --> Download speed was very slow.
Sorry for my silly question :-(

  • Super slow downloading speed under full GPRS/3G co...

I had my N79 connected to my laptop via the USB-cable provided and tried to download some stuff (or just browsing for that matter) but the download speed was extremely slow. I received a full network signal on both GPRS or on 3G during those sessions but the download rate did not exceed 6kB/s. As I understand it should be at least above 100kB/s under these optimal circumstances. I have also discovered that the poor download speed is the same when I use the web browser on my mobile, meaning when I'm not connected to my PC. Thus I think the poor download rate is not due to the USB connection but it lies somewhere else. What can I do to optimize this download rate?

With a 9800GTX, I have consistently gotten much faster performance out of Mo4. Especially with type, but many projects that ran only at 4-12 fps under Mo3, ran at 30 in Mo4... I don't have a Nehelem, though... my home system's a quad and office is a first round Octo with a 1900 in it...
I did get some grief from confused Framing behaviors in one project...
