WRT54G Extremely slow navigating pages @ 192.168.1.1 - Could this be a network card problem?

Friend of mine is having Internet connection issues on his main PC which is hard wired to the router, He's using Comcast cable (18Mbit) and all of a sudden today the speed dropped to dialup speeds, literally, however its ONLY this main pc with the speed issue, there are 2 other computers connected wireless to the router and they are running full speed when testing on speedtest.net
While troubleshooting the problem I tried bypassing the router and the speed issue still remains, So I can pretty much rule out the router, But as part of my troubleshooting whenever I try to access the router's configuration pages via 192.168.1.1 it is VERY slow at responding.
For example when hitting enter after typing 192.168.1.1 it takes around 45 seconds to display the router configuration page, and at that point clicking on any other tabs takes 30 - 45 seconds as well to respond.
So my main question with this post is, is it possible his network card went bad? What would cause really slow access to the router configuration?
The PC is running Win 7 Ultimate 32bit and Ive tried running the network troubleshooter, uninstalled his network card in device manager / reinstalled the drivers but nothing seems to be working.
I also ran Malware Bytes and scan results were clean.
Any ideas appreciated!

can you "borrow" a card? its the only way to be sure, eliminating hours of trial and error procedures. one of the mega electronics stores is a good source, if it solves your problem you keep the card, if not there is the return option

  • WRT54GS extremely slow, drops connection

    Hi all,
I have a WRT54GS model 2.0 with speedbooster. It has firmware version v4.71.4. It's worked absolutely fine for 4 years, but recently it has been having an extremely slow connection, if it connects at all. I continually get network time out errors, but it never seems to go away.
I have reset the modem and router many times, it works fine for a few minutes, and then slows down to its problematic pace. When connecting directly to the modem I get speeds up to 18 mbps, but when using the router I seem to top out around 6-7 mbps.
The main problem I'm having is trying to connect to Xbox live, with the problem seeming to be an insufficient MTU setting, even though I have it manually set to 1452 with the 53-3074 ports open. I have set a static IP for the xbox, with the router's DNS settings and subnet masks. I have tried everything this forum has suggested, but I can't seem to get my old speeds back.
Is there anything anyone can do to steer me right?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Try to upgrade / re flash the firmware on your Linksys router .
Connect a computer with the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your router .
Download the latest firmware from the Linksys website .
Open the setup page of the router .
Go to the Administration tab and click on the sub tab Firmware Upgrade .
Browse and Select the downloaded firmware file and do the upgrade .
After upgrading the firmware reset the router .
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds .
Power cycle the modem and router .
Open the setup page of your Linksys router and configure it manually .
Keep the MTU Size to 1365 .
Also under the Security tab uncheck the Block anonymous Internet Request .
Also disable the UpNp under the router Administration tab .
See if that helps you .

after a restart it works for a time, but always slow. I went to the Applestore this afternoon and the made a check and said it would be the logicboard and they would have to change it for CHF 600 and it would be ready in 10 - 15 days

  • Blank pages on setup pages 192.168.1.1

I'm using a WRT54G ver 7 Router. Last night after i tried upgrading the firmware the basic setup pages shows up blank when ever i try to acess certain tab.Take the wireless tab for example i click on it the page turns up blank but it shows done at the right hand bottem corner of the window. Pls help.

After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.  Do this, then try again to view the router's setup pages.  If this does not fix the problem, follow the tips below.
To view the router's web pages:
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
    JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is wired to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall.
If you are using Zone Alarm, right click on the ZA icon in the system tray (lower right corner of screen) and then click "Shutdown ZoneAlarm", and see if this fixes your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: Open the ZAISS control center, go to Privacy, then temporarily turn off Ad Blocking and Cookie Control, and see if that fixes your problem.
If you are using Noton Internet Security with the Add-on Pack, be sure to turn off the Pop-up Blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall the entire Norton Add-on Pack.
If you cannot get anything at 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not your router's address. Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key. Look at the "Default Gateway". Is it 192.168.1.1 ? Point your browser to the "Default Gateway", then login to your router.
If the above fails, disconnect your modem from the router, and try again. If this corrects your problem, then most likely you have a "modem-router" rather than an ordinary modem. Check to see if your "modem-router" is using the same 192.168.1.x address space as your Linksys router. If it is, then report back with this problem, and also state the make and model of your modem-router.
If all of the above fails, power down your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait one minute, then power up and try again.

  • Safari is Extremely slow loading pages, like Hotmail, eBay, CNN,

For the past few days, Safari has been extremely slow loading most all pages, especially Hotmail, eBay, CNN, etc. Apple support hasn't been able to help. Hve done all the normal stuff, Reset Safari, restarted, etc.... eventually reloaded Leopard, with all updates, 10.5.2. Still slow uploading pages. Have checked network with speedtest.net, Download 5019 kb/s, Upload 363 kb/s. Was told by everyone I asked, these were good speeds, "normal." But it takes 20 seconds - 60 seconds sometime to upload a page. Have watched "activity monitor" under network, "data sent" goes out fast, data received seems to come back but then stalls. I'm not sure of what numbers I should be getting on the return. Any suggestions????

READ my post, March 17, for answers. I read other post, March 15-08, by Toshinmac and March 17-08 post by Rudolf, answered by Hawaiian Starman and Klaus1. My problem decribed there, with Time-Warner/Roadrunner DNS settings. Followed advice... Problem Solved! Thanks to ALL for their input!!!! A Beachbum!

  • Safari extremely slow and pages load with errors

Not sure if this is related to other Safari posts, but when I try to load a page from many sites, including this one, the speed is extremely slow and there are invariably errors reported on the bottom status bar. I'm on a new Mac Pro, and I haven't added any add-ons to Safari or changed system settings. My internet connection is DSL on ethernet, and there are no problems with email or on my old G4 using Explorer 5.1. At this point G4's Explorer is light years faster than Safari on this machine. I'm going to try Mozilla Firefox, but is there any hope for Safari?
    Thanks,
    Peggy

    Hi Peggy
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Try this to speed up Safari.
First, make sure you are not using Rosetta. Go to Safari's info panel (Application folder>Safari.app>Single click>Apple Key I). If Rosetta is selected, uncheck it.
    Network Connection
Go to the System Preferences>Network panel
    - Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
    - Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Only Ethernet ought to be checked. Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply".
    - Back to the "Show" menu, depending on your connection select "Ethernet". Click on the TCP panel. There, enter 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 (separate lines) in the DNS servers box and select "apply".
Creating a personal location, plus adding the DNS codes seems to speed things up. Otherwise, the "automatic" function has a tendency to "search" for available locations.
In the Finder, go to your Utilities folder and select "Terminal". Once the screen is open enter lookupd -flushcache and press return. This clears out the DNS cache. Once done, quit Terminal.

  • Extremely slow internet pages take 1 min to load

    hola,
my internet on my new MBA 11 is extremely slow both on safari and firefox.....I installed the latest software and it is not the internet provider either...I'm lost and frustrated
    help me
    xxx

I have the same problem. Seemed to work okay initially, but after a few months my 11" MBA craws like a PC with a very bad virus or something. It is currently taking FOREVER to download a software update (just hoping probably unrealistically that may do something). Also my trackpad has stopped scrolling up/down or does so only intermittently. Single clicks are unreliable. I have to use an external mouse. I was having the slow speeds before the trackpad died though. Pretty disappointing for a machine a few months old and really only moderately used. My MacBook that's about 4-5 years older is still working great and so much faster on same internet router (a Mac router). Anyone????

  • How do I speed up system as I upgraded to Maverick and everything is running extremely slow-especially "pages"

How do I speed up system after upgrading to Maverick on my iMac?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running a program at the instance of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. There wiil be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." That's because the forum software falsely identifies something in the post as a violation of the terms of use. If that happens, please post the results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • Extremely slow navigation in full screen mode and other erratic behavior

    Hi,
Is it me or every new release of PSE feels heavier and more bloated than the previous?
I have PSE9 running on a dual core, one year old dell PC with W7 with 4GB of RAM. I have the maximum amount of recommended memory alloted to the program (set in preferences).
Ever since I upgraded, moving forward (or backward) to the next pic (via pagedown, or up) through the filmstrip in fullscreen mode has become very, very sluggish. Sometimes it just will not move to the next image even when thi image is in the same directory as the previous one.
Is this sluggish navigation normal? Or is there something that I can do to improve performance??
I look at images in fullscreen mode to decide which ones to edit and which ones to delete so I use this feature a lot. Another example of sluggish-- or in this case erratic-- behavior happens when looking at an image in full screen and then I decide to edit the image. I load the image to the edito by clicking the editor icon on the left options pane. Even if the editor is already open, sometimes it brings the editor to the ferground with the image ready to be edited and sometimes it does not; I have to cycle with alt-tab to make the editor active. Why this erratic behavior? Then, after saving an image and selecting the close button, you are supposed to be returned to the organizer... well this happens sometimes, other times I have to manually swithc using alt-tab.
Please help, this is very annoying.

I don't understand whether you have a Referenced-Masters Library or a Managed-Masters Library. Drives slow as they fill and with a Managed-Masters Library sooner or later the internal drive will become overfilled. I recommend a Referenced-Masters Library with Masters on an external drive and the Aperture Library on the internal drive.
iMacs, laptops and Minis are by definition limiting to heavy Aperture usage, so work carefully to optimize setup and workflow.
First is to max the RAM and make sure the hard drive stays less than 70% full. Restart the iMac prior to a major Aperture session and only have Aperture open. You should also investigate to see if a substantially more powerful video card is available at reasonable price.
Set Preview size to be exactly screen size and build Previews manually when the box is otherwise not being aggressively used.

  • Firefox extremely slow to load, stops Keyboard from working despite resetting, uninstal and downloading same problems persist

Firefox takes forever to load. When trying to fill in a form on a Web Page the Keyboard wont work and I have to close Firefox and start over. It stops for no reason and page gets s white haze over it. I have reloaded Foxfire. Uninstalled it and downloaded the latest version but it continues. Any clues Thanks Haydn

    Another update:
I just tried a different router, an older wireless version of the same router and when I first plugged it in and restarted my computer the internet seemed to work normally again, under 5 second page loads (which is still slower than I'm used to getting, but it was a major improvent).
Then I checked different slots in the router to see if my IP address was changing and it was still remaining on the same IP regardless of which slot I put it in. Do I have to restart my computer everytime I change slots? Either way the internet seemed to be working fine again.
Then I switched back to the other cord that was producing the problems and the speed slowed down again, but it was still loading pages within 10-20 seconds, leading one to believe it was indead the cord.
However, a few minutes into browsing around the web the speed seems to be getting progessively slower. I quit Safari a few times and restarted and the pages would now flash up with no delays, click one or two links with the same results. Then with the 4th or 5th new page the speed slows, and has been slowing to a dead hault again....
I am out of ideas, seemingly a different cord and different router helped things, but only at first. I don't think I can rule out the cord and router as not being problems, but I don't think they are the only problem either.
It must be something to do with the IP addresses, as I am still getting the same address regardless of which router port I put it in. But, I've tried resetting the routers and going into their configurations and resetting them to system defaults, all with no luck.
You would think my computer is the problem, as my roommates computer hasn't had any problems, however everything else on my computer is working perfectly, I've not noticed any other problems and I've tried setting and resetting every network configuration option I can think of and that still doesn't fix the problem.
Maybe the ethernet port on my computer is busted?

  • When i am in certain apps, some with using internet and some not, shuts down and goes back to the main page.  how do i fix this or what is the problem?

My ipad just started blanking out in certain apps, such as the NY post or certain games.  When i try to flip a page in the NY Post the ipad blanks out and goes back to the originial screen.  The same thing happens with some games.  Does anyone know what is wrong or how to fix this?

Try resetting your iPad.  Press and hold sleep button until slider shows up on screen.  Shut down then start it up again.

  • Web page slow on 192.168.x.x network

I don't think this is a Cisco problem. When I try to access our school homepage from a 192.168.x.x network it is very slow to load. When I access the page from a 172.20.X.X network or registered subnet it works fine. It also works from the Internet. I've also tried several differant 192.168.x.x networks with the same slow page loading problem. I even tried a vlan with a 192.169.x.x network the page loaded fine. I even tried a 192.168.x.x network on the same vlan as the server. All other traffic from the 192.168.x.x network is fine. Any ideas why the page loads slow from a 192.168.x.x net??

Im not sure but maybe there is a routing problem... Please check traceroute from 192.168.x.x and from 172.16.x.x
