WRT54G loses connection many times an hour

For some reason, I loose connection to the router config and the internet, many times during a normal web surfing session. I noticed it usually happens when I am 'clicking-thru" web pages quickly. The only way to restore normal function is to cycle the power plug. If i remove the router and go back to my old slower router or direct computer to cable modem connection, I have no problems. I am using the Ver 6 of the router and I am at firmware level V 1.01.0.
This happens from either one of my 2 wired computers.
Please help, I can't return the router because I tossed the box in the trash. I have had the unit for about 2 months.
If I can't fix this, I am going to get another router

Use a static IP address instead of DHCP.
Open your Wireless Connection Properties, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Properties, Use the Following IP Address.
In the fileds below enter:
IP Address:  192.168.1.x  where x is any number between 2 and 255.
Subnet Mask:  255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:  192.168.1.1
Then select Use the Following DNS Server Addreses and enter the IP addresses for the Preferred DNS server and the Alternate DNS server.
You get these numbers from the router.  Go into the router configuration and click on Status. At the biottom of the screen you will see DNS1 and DNS2.  DNS1 is your preferred server, and DNS2 is your alternate server.
After you enter the DNS addresses, click OK, OK. Your computer will then negoitate a session with the router using the address you specified instead of the router deciding which address to use.
Good luck!

  • Macbook Air loses connectivity every time it sleeps.

For about a month now my Macbook Air loses connectivity to wifi whenever it goes to sleep. I have it connected to my personal wifi and when I leave the MBA idle it goes to sleep after 15 mins. When I wake the computer it is still connected to my wifi, but the connectivity is gone. I have to turn airport off and then turn it back on. It regains connectivity immediately after that every time. However, it obviously shouldn't do that and it is annoying because it interrupts my downloads. I have tried playing around with the settings and reading the discussion boards. While people have had similar issues, none have been exactly the same and none of the troubleshooting has worked. Wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions or fixes for this. Thanks in advance!

    Hello BrettG81,
I know that can be frustrating when your MacBook Air does not maintain a Wi-Fi connection. There are a few things that you can try to get it working again. I know you have done some looking at your settings and possibly some adjustments, but go over the first article as some of the troubleshooting for OS X Snow Leopard and Lion can be helpful. Another troubleshooting option is to create a new network location and test it out to see if you still have the same issue. All the steps are linked below.

  • My 3G does not work or wifi i have restored my iphone and rest network connection many times

my 3G does not work at all i can never connect to any wifi at all i have rest network setting many times it still doesnt work and have restored my iphone

it's all good, no need to apologize for your english. Now what you want to do is go to settings> General> make sure 3G is on, then go back to settings> turn airplane mode on for 2-3 seconds and turn it off again. This should make the 3G symbol show up. However, if that does not work; then just reset your iPhone by holding the top button and the home button until it turns off but keep holding it until the apple logo shows up then release the button. Hopes it helps

  • Windows Vista Mode - Loses connection after time

I notice when I am in Windows Mode via bootcamp that after a couple hours or so I will lose the internet connection and have to restart the Mac Pro to reconnect. Any reason this could be happening? I don't experience this in the OS X mode, which makes me think it is a Windows issue. I am plugged in directly to my Airport Extreme router by the way.

tried to use the airport utility to see if there is an firmware upgrade for the ap extreme ?
I have the old non oddly tall one too and never had anything along what you describe

  • Mac Loses connection every time I close the lid.

Whenever I close the lid of my Macbook pro, when I open it again and try to browse to a page in safari the browser says that there is no connection even though airport shows that it is still connected. In order to fix this I need to turn off airport for about 10 seconds then turn it back on to regain connectivity. This is quickly becoming a chore can anyone help with this?

Put the hard disk to sleep when possible in energy saving settings
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    1.     Shut down the computer.
    2.     Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    3.     On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    4.     Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    5.     Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Audio interface loses connection every time my mac mini goes to sleep

Using M-audio fastrack pro and newest mac mini dual 2.5 on Mountain Lion 10.8.4 Intel core i5.
I have to restart to make it go away, it also just happened when I unplugged my monitor and plugged it back in...... Samsung syncmaster....
Anyone had similar problems with Mountain Lion?

    Hi Mate,
Used to have one of those, it was a real pain for dropping out on me, i don't know if you're aware but they don't support sleep mode.  Meaning that if you were to sleep your mac you need to pull the usb cable out first, and plug it back in when you resume.  If you don't you have restart your machine to have it work again.
And yup, it's a right pain.  Mine was particularly sensitive - it dropped out when i switched my mixer on a few times which concerned me, found it ran much better when connected to AC Power.

  • Get and close connections many times in an EJB transaction drains pool

I have run into an odd bug in OC4J, and I'm hoping someone out there has the solution for it.
If I am inside an EJB transaction and call datasource.getConnection() and connection.close() more than (10 * max-connections) times, I can no longer get a connection from the datasource. Instead, I get this message:
java.sql.SQLException: Timed out waiting for an available connection after 60 seconds (connection pool reached max-connections which was set to 100)
    at com.evermind[Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE 10g (9.0.4.0.0)].sql.OrionPooledDataSource.waitForConnection(OrionPooledDataSource.java:1012)
Note the message says that max-connections is set to 100, when it is in fact set to 10. The figure is always 10 times the max-connections value.
These connections are not being held, each is released before the next is fetched.
    The OC4J output looks like:

Since often the number of times a connection is required in my application is data driven, I really need a general solution for this problem. Can anyone make a suggestion?

We are facing the problem as given below.please advice.
We have developed an application wherein we are calling DB functions using Type-4 connections. We have deployed it on Oracle AS OC4J 10.1.2.0.2. When the function executes we get the below error in the log file.
When this error msg comes the application is unable to fetch the desired results.

  • Time Capsule loses connection when Time Machine tries to back up

    Hi,
I am trying to do my first back up using Time Machine but seems there is a problem.
I connect to the internet using cable, which I connect to the Time Capsule. I use it as my router as well and configure my wireless network just fine. When Time Machine tries to connect and do a back up it disconnects everything and I have to umplug everything, reset the Time Capsule sometimes to be able to get the iMac to find it again (netwerk stops working as well)
Please let me know if you need more info to be able to help me out.
    Thanks

I have experienced that myself and I've not found a reason or solution to it yet.
I also read somewhere that the Time Machine software can continue with the backup after an interruption. If that's the case, this may be a minor inconvenience.

  • WRT54G loses connection

my wireless router losses its connection once a day..
i have two apple computer that wirelessly connect to the router. unplugging the router and plugging it back in seems to fix the problem for about a day...
what could cause this and what fixes it?
are there problems when mac and windows machines connect to the same network?
    thanks

as such there should not be any problems with the MAC and windows getting connected to the same network.....what i would like to know is the version no. of the hardware unit itself.. this might be an issue with the older firmware on the router...try to find out what firmware your router is running on...
u can access the router by http://192.168.1.1 .. keep the username blank and password is "admin" ( this is the default password )..u can get the firmware under the status tab.....check the latest firmware on www.linksys.com/download ..select teh correct model and version no......download the firmware and save it....now , on the setup page , go to the "administration" tab and under "firmware upgrade" subtab, select the firmware file and click upgrade....
after upgrading the firmware , reset the router and reconfigure it....

  • WRT54G Loses Connection & Slows

    Hi,
I can get a good connection when wired thru the router. I can also get a good connection using wireless - intermittently. Sometimes it works, then slows down, sometimes no connection despite strong signal.but then it slows, sometimes resets connection. Sometimes it works for days then useless for weeks.
Used neighbours connection (with permission!) flawlessly for a few months - so sure it is the router. Running Vista and any help would be much appreciated -  I will need monosyllabic answers!
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am a new user with wireless networking, but I might be able to get you started.
    Have you set the SSID?
If you do not know what SSID is it is the Service Set Identifier (SSId). For more information I would recomend reading the "User Guide for the Wireless-G Router."
The SSID names your wireless network. With this name you can recognize your own network. Then you know that you are connected to your network and not the network of your neighbor.
Once you have your network properly configured then you can see why there is problems.
    See you online.

  • IChat disconnects and connects many times

when i'm connected via ADSL, my connection to friends thru iChat keeps disconnecting and connecting over and over again. is it my connection speed? i'm able to surf the web,etc fine, but iChat or Skype goes in and out of connection.. help please.thanx

This does depend on the actual spped of your IChat connections as well but:
Min connection speed is 100 Kilobits per sec
A min is therefore 6000 Kilobits and so on.
Add to this any other download and reugular web browsing, mail Send and collection (particualrly if they contain Pics or files)
Don't forget the just having iChat open and Logged in is constantly sending data back and forth regarding keeping the Buddy list updated with new Buddies, their icons (And changes they make) and their online status, not to mention changes in the Audio or Video Status.

  • My Mac OS X 10.6.8 is wakes up slow, occasionally hangs, and my mouse loses connectivity fairly often.

Recently my Mac has been waking up very slow. It runs all applications slowly when I first start using it. It seems to be better after that. My mouse also loses connectivity several times a day, even with new batteries. Not sure if that is related. When I try to restart it Safari often won't close even when I force it.

I ran Etrecheck and this was the result.

  • IChat loses connection upon startup.

iChat loses connection every time I start it up. It'll connect after a few seconds, but it always throws me off. It also crashes the wireless router itself, and whatever is using the internet is booted off. I'm thinking it could be strictly wireless router related, but I'm wondering if it could possibly be the iChat application. I know not all wi-fi routers are compatible with MacBooks completely (or so I've read), but is it normal for only ONE application to mess up? I can connect with Skype, MSN, or any other programs that require the internet on first try.. just not iChat.

    Hi,
I know of some routers or DLS Modem (they also tend to route) that I would not want if I wanted to continue to iChat.
It is not so much that they are incompatible with the Mac but incompatible with th way iChat works..
This means you can access the set up pages with a Mac but the bits you cannot not change from those pages are sometimes "features" that do not help iChat. (mostly to do with how they handle SIP data)
Even if you had such a device iChat is unlikely to make it Crash/Lose Internet/Reboot in the way you describe.
So the device you have is capable of Wifi but you are Ethernet to it ?
Are you also doing a Wifi Connection to it ?
If you are this can cause iChat problems in Video/Audio chats.
Again it is not likely to to cause the issue you describe.
I have a Sagem Fast2405 Modem that is also a Wifi able router.
I have reduced the DHCP range to just 3 IPs for WiFi able phones.
I have two Macs one of which is WiFi but can be Ethernetted, 2 PC towers that are hard wired (Ethernet), a PC Laptop, 1 X-Box 360's that are all Set with Static IPs (there was another 360 at one stage and another Tower and Window Laptop but my daughter moved out).
I mention this to highlight the need to check the IPs of each computer and possibly the methods it has of connecting.
A Ethernet Card in your computer and the Wifi card have what are called Media Access Card (MAC) addresses (numbers).
for each MAC address the modem or router will assign a Different IP. So a computer set to "Using DHCP" in System Preferences > Network will get two IPs if connected by Wifi and Ethernet.
However it if you assign the IPS Manually (Apple's Name for Static routing that needs DHCP turned Off in the router) then it is possible to allocate the Same IP to either different connection methods or to different computers/Game Stations.
This last may cause the symptoms you describe in some routers.
It will tend to show up in those Apps that are very specific about the "path" to the internet such as iChat (Skype is less fussy as it has "Fall back" ports that rely on Web Browsing and Mail ports).
I doubt it is a faulty unit but it still remains a possibility.
    I hope this helps.
