WRT54G mac filtering problem
I have a WRT54GS with WEP security enabled hard wired to a local PC, a laptop working on a wireless link, an XBOX 360 on a wireles link and a DS lite.
When I enable mac filtering the XBOX stops working even though I have the mac addresses of both the XBOX and the wireless adapter in the mac address table (everything else works fine including the DS!). I've checked and double checked the mac addresses of all of my equipment and they're all correct. (Everything including the XBOX work fine with the mac address filtering disabled, the wireless adapter connected to the XBOX is also a Linksys ****11B (I can't remember the full code and my son is in bed now)).
TIA
Try lansurfer or netscan, lan scanning softwares

E1200 - Ports not working and mac filtering problem
If there was a way to give negative stars to this router, I would. As it is, the minimum rating I can give this product is one star, and that's one star too many.
I was upgrading from the WRT54G, which is an ugly thing to look at, but a reliable workhorse nonetheless. I turned that in to a downstream switch in my comms hub.
On the E1200, I flashed the latest firmware, used different Cat5 cables, and different laptops before committing to hating this product.
The first time I reached out to Amazon, the Amazon rep gave me a Cisco number to call. Turns out, that's some shady mortgage refinance hotline. Try it for yourself! 1-800-666-1771.
Now, the rant -
1. Two out of four wired LAN ports don't work: What can be the fix for this?! The activity lights on ports 3 and 4 blink and suggest data transfer is taking place, but the wired laptop simply can't acquire an IP address and access the internet. Same result when I connect my Panasonic Blu-Ray player to ports 3 and 4. None of the Viera Cast features load.
2. MAC filtering unreliable: The wireless routing works somewhat reliably, if and only if, one settles for the most basic security. If I only choose a password and WPA2 protocol, things work fine. If I add another layer of security (in my case, enabling MAC filtering and only PERMITTING gateway to listed MAC IDs), things break down. As soon as I disable MAC filtering, wireless access to authenticated clients is restored.
3. Cisco customer service: The censored world we live in, compels me to criticize politely. TERRIBLE. Cisco website is unintuitive, and frustrating. There's no easy way to register your purchased product. The Cisco "registration" is intentionally misleading and deceptive. For all intents and purposes, it's just an information gathering tool for Cisco. Don't bother registering there, unless you love the idea of storing your personal information on their servers. Their phone-based customer service is apathetic and uninterested. My rep was so distrusting of my intelligence and motor control, that he simply wouldn't believe that I had selected "PERMIT" and not "PREVENT" as the option under MAC filtering. After he asked me the same question for the fourth time, I raised my voice, and he gave up the idea of checking for the fifth time.
However, this review is a tale of two companies. I reached out to Amazon again. This time, I got a rockstar in the shape of Leanne C! She was incredibly helpful, and understanding. What's more, she set up my return without any hassle and this Cisco dud is on its way back. I'm a big fan of Leanne's and my confidence in Amazon is restored.
I'm sure that i received a lemon. I've never had problems with Linksys products. Maybe others' experience is different from mine.In your case as port numbers 1 and 2 does not work, what you could have done a loop back test. To perform a loop back test you need to take an ethernet cable, connect one end of that cable to internet port and the other end to the non-working port on the router. If you get the led to glow on both internet and the respective ethernet port that indicates that the port is working fine.
It could also be a sychronization issue between the above mentioned lan ports and the lan card of your computer. As a part of trouble shooting you can try to reduce the card speed of your lan card. Following are the steps to reduce the speed of your lan card.
START--> right-click My Network Places and click Properties
right-click on the device manager and click properties
Click on the CONFIGURE button
Select the ADVANCED tab and in the box under the header property select "speed and duplex" and change the value on the right to 10 mbps half duplex. A restart would be recommended after performing these steps.
In the second half you said that after enabling the mac filter option the internet breaks down. Here, do you mean to say that the computer
gets disconnected from the wireless network or it stays connected with a valid IP address but without an internet connection.
Well, it is an unusual issue however you could have reset and reconfigure the router as you got the latest firmware upgraded on it.
Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process. -
HP Deskjet 3050A ALL-IN-ONE J611 series ---- mac filtering problem
i have a HP Deskjet 3050A ALL-IN-ONE J611 and i cannot get my printer to connect wireless. Everytime I try to connect it it always tells me an error. The error says:
Issue: MAC address filtering may be enabled on your wireless router.
Solution: If MAC address filtering is enabled on your router you should disable it.
The thing is i checked my router to make sure the MAC filtering was not enabled and it wasn't. So why does my printer keep telling me this? if i can get passed this problem i think it would connect. The MAC address is already stored in the router.

in conjunction with WPA.
In 12.2(15)JA and above, configuring MAC authentication with WPA does not
work. MAC Authentication passes everyone through.
I can't found IOS 12.2(13) in Cisco site.

Deskjet 3050 J610 Wireless Setup Problem - Thinks I'm using MAC filtering
I just got an HP Deskjet 3050 J610 from my parents, who have never used it. The ink cartridges were still in their wrappers. Trying to set it up tonight, and everything was going well until I tried connecting it to the wireless network.
My router does not have WPS, so I'm having to do this via USB. The software is able to detect my router's SSID, encryption type, and password. However, when trying to connect the printer to the router, it fails. The Wireless Network Test Report claims that it might be because of MAC address filtering. I double checked my router settings, and I am NOT using MAC filtering at all. I have not yet tried rebooting everything (Printer, laptop, router), but I am doubtful that will resolve the issue. For security reasons, I would prefer not to say what security I'm using, but I will say that it IS supported by the printer.
I'm using Windows 7 on an Asus laptop, and my ISP is Verizon Fios.Hi Manjunath, I spent the last hour on that site. Everything I found was about how to add the printer's MAC address to the router's filter settings. But I repeat, I am NOT using MAC filtering on my router, but the printer thinks I am.
Or rather... THOUGHT I was.
Rebooting the printer and the router helped. Of course, I did both at the same time, so I'm not sure which one was required, or both, but the long and the short of it is, it works now. -
WLC 5760 - MAC Filtering wireless clients
Hi,
Does anyone ever deployed mac-filtering authentication to wireless clients in the WLC 5760?
I've configured a WLAN for Mac-filtering authentication only (named it as "macauth"):
wlan RNVDOS 4 RNVDOS
aaa-override
no broadcast-ssid
client vlan RNVDOS
mac-filtering macauth
no security wpa
no security wpa akm dot1x
no security wpa wpa2
no security wpa wpa2 ciphers aes
session-timeout 1800
no shutdown
Then, below Configuration->Security->MAC Filtering I've added several MAC addresses i.e. :
MAC Address: 88532e9ef70a Attribute List: macauth
Which turned out to be display in the CLI as:
username 88532e9ef70a mac aaa attribute list macauth
The problem is that whenever I try to associate the wireless client 88532e9ef70a, the client passes to the exclusion list.:

Kind Regards,
VascoHi Patrick,
Thank you for sharing your solution. It didn't solved entirely the problem but you pointed to the right direction!
They are caused, because the system searches for an aaa authorization list, which is not configured.
To resolve this configure the following
aaa authorization network mac-filter local
where mac-filter is the name you defined in the SSID.
I've used your sugestion to create an aaa local authorization list but instead of naming it with the SSID, I've used the name of the attribute list ( macauth ) and it solved the problem:
aaa authorization network macauth local
username 88532e9ef70a mac aaa attribute list macauth
wlan RNVDOS 4 RNVDOS
client vlan RNVDOS
mac-filtering macauth
WLC1#sh wireless client summ
Number of Local Clients : 1
MAC Address AP Name WLAN State Protocol

WRT54GS - MAC Address Filter & Firewall SPI
Hi,
I just purchased a WRT54GS V 6 wireless router. I updated the firmware to the latest (May 30) and the set up seems to be OK. Using the security recommendations in the manual as a guide, I implemented them - the turn off SSID, and the others.
IF I try to filter the MAC addresses (accept only those on the list) for my wife's Sony VAIO VGN - S260 laptop, it can see the network but will not connect. When I turn off the MAC filtering, it is fine. I used the WPA2 personal encryption, and input the passphrase into both router and computer.
My other issue is the firewall Statefull Packet Inspection (SPI). On the Security set up screen, firewall tab - I have the four radio button settings that I am supposed to (Block WAN request, filter Multicast, Filter NAT, & Filter IDENT), however, I do NOT have the option to turn on the firewall (SPI) above the 4 radio buttons - that setting is totally missing from the set up screen. Reference Page 28 of the manual.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions, as I could not find any ideas searching the forum. Thanks for your help
Message Edited by donh127 on 08-07-2006 07:00 PMHi. Is your Mac mini loaded with the OSX server edition or OSX consumer edition? I am not 100% sure but I think you need a server edition to do that.

Simple WCS Mac filtering not functioning!
Hello forum,
We have just deployed WLC and WCS with couple of lightweight AP.
We decide to employ MAC filtering to restrict wireless client.
We noticed a SERIOUS problem, once we removed a mac address from the WCS and apply to controllers, Wireless client with that mac address are still able to access(ping, dhcp) the network even though its mac is removed from the currnt local mac filter after around 10mins???
Is there a know bug to this issue? or it requires some moment for the changes to take effect.Hi all,
problems solved. session-timeout is causing the client to maintain the session after mac removal.
Cheers,

Smart Wifi iOS App - MAC Filtering defaults to DENY!
So, the issue I'm having is pretty simple and it's an inherent design issue in the iOS app because it doesn't happen with the web inteface for my router. I have an EA6500 router and when using the iOS app with an iPhone5s, once you "add a device" to the MAC filtering list it automatically turns off the MAC Filtering when the new device is added. Then when you turn the filtering back ON, it automatically defaults to "DENY" thus kicking all wireless devices from the router, including the iPhone!!!!!
So I have to go to the router in the basement with my laptop and connect to it with an Ethernet cable to simply change the checkbox to say "ALLOW" devices instead of "DENY" devices. PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP!!!! I use this feature at least once a week and it's a pain in the A$$ when you have to go to use a laptop each time you want to modify the filtered list.
Thanks!
My devices:
EA6500 Smart Wi-Fi Dual-Band AC Router with Gigabit and 2x USB
Firmware version: 1.1.28 (Build 146072)
iPhone5s
iOS 7.0.4
Linksys Smart Wi-Fi 1.4 149827 (app)There could be a problem with the app perhaps. You can uninstall the app and reinstall it. That could help.

MAC Filtering via Radius not working
Hi Folks,
I'm having problems with MAC filtering via RADIUS. I have a combination of a local database on the controllers and remote MAC addresses provisioned on a Cisco ACS. My problem is that even when I've set the controllers to use Radius and I've configured the order to be local and then radius the controllers never sent an auth request to the Radius servers. I know that Radius can work because I have another WLAN (the guest WLAN) on the same hardware that is configured to authenticate first against the local database and then against Radius and this is working fine.

I'm assuming thaty the line - Returning AAA Error 'No Server' - is significant but I have configured the Radius servers correctly but a packet trace shows no auth requests whatsoever from the controllers. Has anyone seen this? Anything I should be looking at?
Thanks in advance,
Shane. The bug I ran into was CSCta53985 on the WLCs. I upgraded to 7.0 and it fixed it. The fix is available in 6.0.188. Depending on your WLC hardware, I would go to at least 7.0.116 for newer AP support, and CleanAir support.

I have a new Epson WF-3520 AIO printer. I run Mac on OS X 10.5.7. The printer appears to be properly set up to run wirelessly but it doesn't show up as a choice to be added to my list of available printers. My Mac just doesn't see it. After trying many things Epson's tech support told me to call Apple and find out how to disable the Airport Extreme's firewall as well as Mac Filtering. I went into the Airport's utility and just got lost in knowing exactly what steps I need to take to do this. Also, I'm somewhat dubious that this is really what needs to be done in the first place and I'm wondering if he simply wanted to get off the phone.... All advice welcome! Thanks. Stephanie
Forget it.... My suspicion was correct. I was talking to an idiot. Problem resolved by me. Unrelated to Airport.
Forgot to install a piece of software... duh!!! -

Once in a while it manages to connect, but after putting the lid down it's gone again. No problem when router mac-filtering is off. All other units works -

Then leave it off. It does nothing to protect you from intrusion. -
IPod Touch can't be Mac Filtered....
Airport Extreme Mac Address Filtering works for all our computers except the iPod touch. No matter what I set the timing for, it can surf the web. How do I get filtering to work for it?
I've tried everything. I substituted the MAC Address into one of the others I set up successfully and the iPod just punched right through. I rebooted the Airport Extreme. Nothing works. The iPod Touch can still surf the web.
Any ideas?
johnnygeneric
PS. I have a total of 12 internet appliances set up for MAC filtering.OK. I can NOT believe no one else has had this problem. There have been 116 views of this, and no one has a solution?
In fact, I bought a Fifth Generation Airport Extreme and the problem STILL persists.
I used the Mac based Airport Utility to verify the MAC address. The restriction is set up so that the iPod will only be able to hook up to the WiFi on Mondays. Today is Saturday and it had no problem surfing the web.
We also have an iPad Mini set up wth Mac Filtering and it shuts down at 9:30pm like it's supposed to. So someone tell me: WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? -
Hello,
1) Where can I obtain a Install CD for my WAG54GS Router?
2) I have had the WAG54GS in use for some years now, and more and more computers and devices are to the router.
Recently my Printer (HP 6500) often tells me that it cannot obtain an IP address but it does t "see" the SSID Router name.)
Error roughly translates (German) to
Your Router uses MAC Filtering. So a Connection the HP Printer may fail.
I must either deactivate the MAC filer or add the Printer MAC Address to the allowed list.
I am unsure how to do this.
Any help on both of these comments.??????
NTOK, thank you.
I keep losing IP addresses now fron my PC's as well a my printer. Usually a router re-boot helps.
The thing I did not like about this WAG54GS is that there is no power fail re-start.
Have you any idea why losing the IP address occurs. Note that the SSID is being recogonised and with a healthy
signal level.
However
A am sending on Channel 1 but there is a TP-LINK 504132 Router in my neighbourhood that is on channel 1
(2,412 GHz) and is sending 802.11n and seems to be tranmitting a much higher speed than me.
I wonder if this could be causing problems.

EA2700 bridging and mac filtering
I have a EA4500 as a main router and a EA2700 router connected to it (wire) in bridging mode.
On the EA4500 I use mac filtering for the wireless connections.
My problem:
If a device connects wireless to the EA2700, the EA4500 see this as a LAN connection and thus the MAC filter is bypassed.
Can this be solved? You can try this, bridge the 2700 router and use the following LAN-to-LAN configuration to see if the 4500 sees the device correctly:
http://www.northshore-it.com/tips/how-tos/cascade_linksys/#LAN_to_LAN
It's possible that the design and detection behavior of the 4500 with the use of a wired 2ndary AP maybe how it's detecting the client devices since it's connected wirelessly to the 2700 however when it goes thru the 2700 to the 4500, it's over a LAN wired connection and thats what the 4500 is seeing.
