WRT54G: Pinging and Disconnection Problems

I have the WRT56G and both the wired and wireless connections are very weak. When connecting my computer directly into my cable modem, the connection is very fast and rock solid. For example when I ping linksys.com when connecting directly into my modem, the average latency is about 15ms. When pinging linksys.com using the WRT54G, the latency is a horrendous 3800ms. I've already swapped things 4 times already and every time is the same. Constantly getting disconnected from games, getting 404 errors when visiting websites.

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly
the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the
router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power
cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
Also,the advanced wireless settings to Beacon Interval=50,Frag
thres=2306 & Rts thres=2307 & then uncheck a Block Anonymous Internet Requests & it will definately work!!!

  • BB really slow and disconnection problems. Prepari...

    Hi all
    I've been having recent problems with my BB connection which resulted in a visit from an engineer last week. The engineer checked the master box and found no issues. He advised that I replace the cable connecting the hub to the master box as he thought it could be damaged and leading to the problem.
    I've replaced the cable and microfilters throughout, reset the hub, moved the hub, tried wired and wireless connection, changed channels but I'm still getting really poor speeds and disconnections and its become totally unusable. I cant obtain a result from the BTspeedtest application as it continually says an error has occurred during the test (when I can get online at all).
    If I can get online when I get home I'll post up my exact hub stats. From memory the hub has remained connected for around 50hrs and the speeds are upstream 480kbps downstream 438kbps.
    Finally, in readiness for the 2nd engineer on Friday is there anything I should do, for example should I connect the hub to the test port on the master socket?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Ok folks,
    after removing the hub from the main BT socket (NTE5?) and connecting the hub directly to the test port I get an immediate improvement in download speeds. Stats below.
    What should my next course of action be, does that mean the socket is faulty or is something off somewhere else?
    BTspeedtest still shows the following error when I attempt a speedtest
    The Performance Tester could not perform Assured Rate throughput test , Please try again later.

  • WRT54G ver 7 disconnecting problems

    Hello
    me and my friend have the same problem with the same router and in the same version.
    everytime (it get be hour/s less or more or after a day) the router is getting out from is synchronization and i check that ping is working to it but yuo can't go to is home web (192.168.1.1).
    why this things are happening ?
    what we have to do.
    the only thing that help for now is disconnecting the router from electric power and plug it again.
    Help me please
    Thanks Tomer

    I lose my internet connection 2 or 3 times a week and have to unplug the router from the power source and reconnect after about 20 sec.  What causes this and what is the solution?

  • WRT54G v3 and BEFW11S4 Problems

    It started off like this. My WRT54G Suddenly Bricked on me out of the blue. I dont know what caused it. So i hooked up my old BEFW11S4 to find a way to unbrick the Wireless G And i remembered it had the same wireless settings as the Wireless G. the Wireless was working fine For a while but it started timing out. so i get on the computer thats hooked up to the router via ethernet and i noticed the act/link light was blinking at a rapid rate but windows(vista) was saying the connection had little to no connectivity and couldnt ping the the Router. So i reset the router and it was acting wierd the Power started blinking and thats all, then i held the reset button even longer, but it came back on so i set everything back up and I quickly looked for a way to fix my wireless G, and it worked i got my wireless G back working. I set everything back up changed the router password, SSID and set it not to broadcast because I thought someone got into my router and started changing things. After a few hours the wireless G started acting strange again so reset it and it started Restarting By its self while the Powerlight constantly blinks. i held the reset button untill Dmz light came on nad the router stopped resetting itself. so i used the TFTP program from the site and it said the flash was successful and the router stopped responding. (I had cmd window running  ping -t 192.168.1.1)The router restarted and it went back to what it was doing before, constantly restarting it self.
    I hooked the Wireless B back up and that rapid blinking activity light was bothering me so i restarted the computer while the computer was  off the like was still blinking. so when windows finished starting up i changed the link speed 100mbps full/half duplex made the the router blink but it stopped when i set it to 10mbps full.
    Is it possible that one of my computers is causing my routers to act strange?

    Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly

  • WRT54G Language and conecting problem.

    I have router Linksys WRT54G version 7. When I installing my router first time everything worked OK. When I installing my routers in my parents DSL link, it doesnt work. I gave this error message Step 9: Sender Error while upgrading the router's language pack I find in this forum, I tried 192.168.1.1/language.htm to upgrade language from routers CD in directory Pack/en_lang.bin. It gave me white window with black border without any text or buttons. When I try to read web based menu, I see only graphics and numbers without any text. I cant change anything. In step 10 : Router configuration error. Would you like to try again? and Unable to connect the Router. Check the cable connection from the computer to the router. Cables are OK, because internet on main PC works fine, wirelles I cant configure, I doesnt see menus. I tryed RESET button, my firmare is last official 7.00.4. Sorry for my english.

    Basically, your router's firmware has been corrupted. With the same reason, the configuration or setup page is corrupted as well. This means that you cannot do a firmware upgrade by using the router's setup page (The one that you usually access through 192.168.1.1).
    To solve this problem, you may need to download a certain application that will help you in upgrading the router's firmware instead of using the router's setup page since in the first place, it is corrupted.
    You need to download TFTP.exe (The application that upgrades the firmware of the router rather than using the setup page) and finally the Firmware file that is downloadable from the Linksys website.

  • Sync and Disconnect Problems

    After recent I-Tunes update, I-pod nano 3rd generation says it is syncing and then automatically disconnects and prevents another sync from occurring because of the message that "I-Pod cannot be found." Restarting computer and reopening I-Tunes does solve the problem. Resetting the I-pod did not solve the problem. New music can be added to any previously created playlist that I had created that shows up on the computer; however, any new playlist, along with any music added to the new playlist, will not sync and show up on the handheld i-pod. This only began occurring after the recent I-Tunes update. Sorry I ever did the update. It's been time consuming searching for a solution when the problem is on the end of the new update.

    Does Apple care about it customers?
    Too many customers having I-Pod problems and glitches that Apple does not appear to be addressing.
    Looks like they only care about the initial purchase and leave their customer out in the desert for any problems that are created by their updates!

  • WRT54G Router and print problem

    I have my desktop wired to the router. Laptop is wireless.
    Desktop is always on so I want to be to print from laptop.
    Running XP with firewall off. File and print sharing enabled.
    Broadband internet works fine on both. But when I run
    Network setup wizard I lose my internet connection on the
    wired desktop. Have to restore on desktop to get it back.
    What am I doing wrong?

    I can ping laptop from desktop.
    Laptop is 192.168.1.104
    Desktop is 192.168.1.1  which is same as router? Is this correct?
    Devices on the same network cannot have the same IP address. Since 192.168.1.1 is for the router, check the IP of the desktop and try to ping that.

  • Used To Be Able To Receive Folders (And Disconnection Problem)

    As far as I remember I didn't change any settings on my iChat. I can no longer receive an entire folder as a file transfer, I can only do one file at a time. Any way to fix this?
    Also, iChat keeps disconnecting after about 25 seconds saying "connection timed out". Changing port to "443" doesn't work.
    Thanks.

    Yes http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/ now works.
    (At the moment I find the old site is still accessible though).

  • WRT54GS ver.6 disconnection problems

    Everytime I turn on my laptop and when it connects automatically or whenever I turn on my gaming consoles (xbox360 and PS3 wired connection) its just drops my desktop's internet for at least 10 sec and then comes back on... already updated the latest firmware and still the same...any suggestions?

    As you upgraded the firmware on the router...you need to reset the router for 30 secs in such a way that the power light on the router is blinkin & then you need to unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router.Then you can plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid yo can plug in the power cable to the router & you will be Online!!!

  • WRT54G ver 6 disconnect problem.

    every hour or so my computer just drops the connection.
    it usually happens when im playing an online game, no matter how close i am to the router it always happens.
    is there a way to maybe release some of the strain my game causes on the router?
    im on windows xp.

    logon to router's setup page, try changing wireless channel to 11, go to advanced wireless settings reduce beacon interval to 50, reduce fragmentation and rts threshold to 40 by each, also try upgrading latest firmware on the router...check whether it makes any difference or not...

  • WRT54G disconnect problem

    I have been a loyal Linksys (CISCO) user since buying my 1st Wireless Access Point router/4-port Switch (BEFW1154 v2) in 08/2002. I upgraded to a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router (WRT54G v8.00.2) in 11/2007. My home wireless network supports; IBM Thinkpad (Windows XP) and Lenovo Ideapad (Windows VISTA Home Premium). About a month ago I started having disconnect issues with the WRT54G. Both laptops experienced the disconnects. Initially, I unplugged the WRT54G power for about 1 minute then plugged it back in. This did not resolve the disconnect problem. I then tried to unplug the cable modem and WRT54G power. Wait about 1 minute then plug in the cable modem allowing it to reset and sync up. Then I plugged in the WRT54G. This temporarily resolved the problem for a few minutes but the disconnect problem returned eventually. I reset the WRT54G to the factory default configuration and reconfigured it for my home network. The disconnect problem was not resolved by taking this action. I contacted Cablevision who provides my broadband Internet access. They could not identify a root cause for the disconnect problem. To determine if the root cause was something other than the WRT54G, I reinstalled the BEFW1154. I have not had a disconnect problem since taking this action leading me to believe that the WRT54G is bad. I would appreciate any suggestions that might resolve the disconnect problem except for a suggestion to purchase a new router. THANKS
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I too have had the disconnect problem. I am thinking now that my problem started when I moved the Router next to the printer. I think when the printer is on my router disconnects. I have the printer off this morning and have no problems. Last night the printer was on and both my wife's and my Pc's would lose connection to the router until I unplugged it and plugged it back in.
    Is it possible for a printer to throw off the connection? I know my cell phone causes a lot of noise in the speakers if I have it next to the PC.

  • WRT54G v6 keeps hanging and disconnecting

    I used to connect to the internet by an ADSL modem router (PPoE mode) and use a hub to share the internet into my two computers that I have in my local network.
    So, I bought three days ago a Linksys Wireless Router (WRT54G v6). Then, I installed it and configured it. What you need to know is that I put my router modem to work in bridge mode, and I started to use the wireless router to connect to the internet and send the connection to the other computers. The problem is, since I have configured the router I have been experimenting an intermitent connection. I'm working and then the OS (Windows) shows a window saying that I have been disconnected from my local network. A few seconds later it shows another window saying that I can work again in the local network. But when I come back to the local network I don't have internet signal anymore. I have to wait some seconds or minutes to this signal come back. And when I enter in the router configuration, go to status and try to connect manually, the button doesn't work.
    There are more additional information that you should know. This problem appeared since I have installed the router WRT54G v6 with firmware 1.00.7 and persisted when i upgraded the firmware to 1.00.9. And, i joined here and other assistents told me to change the MTU. I changed it to 1492, 1470, 1450, 1400, 1350, 1300 and the problem persisted. And when the signal of the network hangs, it hangs two times in a short period of time (5 minutes) .

    Just something to try...
    =>Reset the router back to factory defaults
    =>Power off modem/router
    =>Power on the modem (wait a minute)
    =>Power on the router
    =>IF DSL AND PPoP Required - set it now
    =>Test for internet connectivity (Google something) on wired connection
    So long as the above is working...
    =>Reset your SSID and password
    =>Set security to WEP (lowest common denominator) write down the HEX key
    =>Change channel to 11
    =>SAVE YOUR CHANGES
    =>Power off modem/router
    =>Power on the modem (wait a minute)
    =>Power on the router
    =>Reboot your wireless device
    =>Using proprietary or Windows Zero Cong Utility, do a Site Analysis
    =>Make sure your SSID is there...
    =>If possible, connect with Secure Easy Setup... If not:
    =>Configure the wireless client as WEP with HEX key from above
    I have set up many wireless networks in my neighborhood with the WRT54G and WRT54GS (FWIW - all have been cable ISPs). Complaints about dropped connections have always been resolved by changing channel to the upper end of channel spectrum. Bottom Line: There are too many 2.4 devices nearby playing havoc on your network...
    Good Luck!

    That it is still working is miraclous.. most have died.. lots started flaking out at 18months to 2years..
    See deadtimecapsule.org
    The few that remained now seem to have reached EOL.. you can repair if you have some skills.. fairly cheaply.
    But it is well and truly time to replace.

  • Problems when connecting and disconnecting MBP and TBD

    Hello,
    I have problems with connecting and disconnecting my macbook pro retina 13" to my thunderbolt display. Everytime I disconnect my MBP form my TBD with the lid closed it takes approximately 10 seconds until my MBP has recognized that the TBD is no longer connected and the MBP screens turns on.
    On the other hand I also have a problem when I reconnect my MBP to my TBD. Approximately every second time my MBP does not recognize that the TBD is connected again and neither the MBP nor the TBD turns on. The small light on the power cabel of my TBD does not light up. It is as the TBD would'nt have any power. Pushing buttons on my Apple Bluethooth doesnt help. I have to disconnect and reconnect the thunderbolt and the power connector a coupl of times until the MBP finally recognizes the TBD and turns on. In some cases a different background picture is shown on the TBD than the one I usually have on my MBP.
    The problem is very annoying especially because I connect and disconnect both devices and it really costs time.
    I really hope there's someone who can help with the problem. Do you think this may be hardware problem of my MBP or TBD?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    HI there,
    The first thing I would recommend is checking for any new software updates while using the display, this will check for any available firmware updates for the display. If you continue to experience issues, then you may want to take a look at the article below for some further troubleshooting steps.
