WRT54G Router - All lights continuously flashing?

This morning my WRT54G's lights (link/act, Full/col, 100) were continuously flashing on and off simultaneously and I'd lost all network connectivity.  I've not made any changes (firmware) to the router for about 1 year, and it's been working fine.  I've pulled the plug on the router and when the power's back on, the lights go out but still no connectivity.. after a while all the lights start flashing. I'm just wondering if I need to buy a new one

Quite right! The old adapter says the output is 5v and I do have another lying around.. my router is up and running   thanks for the tip.

  • The Time Capsule light continues flashing yellow.

The machine seems to be working fine with the wifi and backup systems.  I reset the wifi and the light stopped flashing and was green for a couple of hours, but then started again.  Tried a second time with the same outcome.  Any ideas?

If you have not already done so, you will need to download and install the full featured version of AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Then open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6
    Click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line) and a window will open to explain why the Time Capsule is complaining....along with suggestions to remedy the issue. It might be something as simple as a message that an update is available for the Time Capsule.
Suggest that you keep both AirPort Utility 5.6 and 6.0 on your Mac.  (You cannot delete AirPort Utility 6.0)

  • AAAGGHHH!!! Have WRT54G V8, all lights a go, but cannot detect internet connection

Any help is a Plus!!! Just bought my wife a WRT54G V8 router from Best Buy. The thing is less than 2 weeks old. Have yet to figure how to set it up. I have ran the CD, it gets to about %89, stops and says "Cannot detect internet connection, ck cables and try again". Have went through the speal w/the phone self help setup, downloaded the instructions from the Liksys support site, and set on hold for about 30 minutes before getting sick of waiting for help. I don't have a firewall other than the Windows firewall, my DSL service is through Verizon (MSN). When the router is hooked up I can't sign on to the internet at all. If I unhook the router and hook the modem back into the computer it works fine. I am at a loss, Please Help!!!

check first what is your ip when you are connected straight to your modem

turn the router off wait 10 sec. then back on
with the pc connected to e.g. port no. 1 on the router, open internet explorer, on the address bar type in 192.168.1.1 - uname  none/blank  password admin
then on set up look for local ip address change that to 192.168.2.1
Melsky, this is a very confusing post. You say to check the ip you get when connected to the modem, if it is a 192.168.1.1 address then disconnect the modem from the internet port of router.
First, you would never get a 192.168.1.1 address from the modem. If the modem has a built in router or just a dhcp server IT would most likely be 192.168.1.1 so it would not assign that address to anything else.
Second, you say to check ip directly connected to modem, but then you say to disconnect the router if the address is a 192.168 address. If they connect directly to the modem, the router is already disconnected.
    Very confusing.

  • Problem with WRT54G. All lights are Blinking

I do not know very much about technology and my router stopped working correctly. Now, the lights of Power, Internet, and the ones of the numbers 1 and 3 are blinking and the wireless connection does not work. Can anyone explain me what to do to solve this? I will be very grateful. Javier

hi... power cycle the n/w by unplugging power cable of modem and router, by unplugging power cable of modem and router...wait for couple of minutes, power up the modem first and once modem is rebooted power up the router, check whether lights stopped blinking or not, if lights are still blinking in that case you may need to reset the router back to factory default settings by pressing reset button on the back panel of the router but before you can reset the router let me know which internet connection are you using...so that i can tell you step by step configuration of the router...

    Thanks for your response
Let me give the history - I started with an Apple Express being fed thru a D-Link  EBTR 2310 cable Router from an RCA DCM315 Modem (Pure). Comcast service all the way.
Got the 1st generation TC in 2008 and merely replaced the Airport Express with the TC. Worked ok
A year or two ago I did try removing the modem and feeding the TC directly from the modem. Resulted in the same condition I have now - Continuous flashing amber on the TC. So I put the router back in the chain.
Some time later, at the recommendation of a Comcast rep, I replaced the router with (a Belkin F5D 5231) to see if speed and dropout problems would be improved. I thought it helped some at the time but now I am not so sure.
Last week I decided to see if a new modem would help with download speeds. So I got another pure cable modem (Motorola SB 6121- high on the Comcast recommended list).
Got up and running easily with Comcast help and with the modem connected directly to a computer.
Next I put the TC in the link and again could not get past the TC continuing to flash amber. Although I did get connected to the internet with this configuration I lost connection two both of my printers - one connected by USB and the other wirelessly to the TC. Again everything works fine when I put the Belkin router back in the system.
    However with the router in there, the modem shows the downstream connection to be 10/100 ethernet speed. (Modem light changes color for indicating speeds.}
I have gone thru all of the combinations of powering down/ up, but all stays the same.
I can live with what I have but something still doesn’t seem right.
    Thanks again

  • Wrt54gs all seems good cept internet light will not light or flash and no connection

Got a WRT54GS router. # months old. I have it hooked up to comcast. This evening . I found no net when I turned on pc. I have comcast phone and net service. So My modem also handles phone calls aswell.  On my cable modem there is a link light with is normaly flashing. When I got home my link light was dark. None of my pcs or consoles could get on the internet. I found all the lights on my router on cept the internet light. I called comcast and they verified it was my routeri I hooked this pc strait to modem and all worked fine. This is how im posting now. Ive tried newest firmware and multiple manual resets on router. I get everything but the internet light.<Internet light does not come at all.> Ilso get no net when hooked to router. If I use modem alone all is fine.
    Im hooking up an
    XBOX360
    PS3
    PC
    Wirelessly WII
    Wirelessly PSP
    Wirelessly Laptop.
My Router is WRT54 GS with latest firmware just installed. Please help me if you can All my lights come on as normal cept the internet light. And my cable modem dosent get a link from the router at all. If I hook pc direct to modem again all is ok. Its not my provider.
    Thank you.

Since the "internet" light is not coming on , i'd say that it may be a problem with the "cable" you are using between the modem and the router....if the cable is good....try this....take one CAT5 cable and plug one end into the one of the LAN ports and the other end into the internet port of the router.....check if the internet light turns on...in case it does , try connecting a "hub" between the modem and the router..... let me know what happens

l have an apple tv  2 generation please help me

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • EA6500 - stopped working continuously flashing light

I have to say that I am greatly disappointed in this wireless router.  This is the second time that this has occurred in less than a year.  The only difference is that the first time (mid May) it corrected by itself.
    Problem:
The first symptom is that there is a loss of internet connectivity, so we go up and check the router and unplug it.  Initially thinking that there is also a problem with the broadband modem, we poweroff the modem as well. But, recycling the power doesn't resolve the issue.
We turn everything back on and the router goes through the startup cycle then just goes into a continuous flashing mode.
I have attempted to use the reset button to return to reset the configuration, without success.
I have left it off for long periods of time and then attempted to restart it.
I have tried turning it on both connected and disconnected from the broadband modem.
There is now no response from this device.
In the past 12 years,  I have owned 2 different dlink wireless routers, and neither failed the entire time that I used them.  The only reason that I swapped them out was for greater functionality and speed improvements. A router that is less than a year old should not go belly up. Cisco should be ashamed to put their name on this device.  I currently manage the global infrastructure for a 1.5 billion Euro company, and we have standardized on Cisco hardware.  This is not even close to the same product quality.
On an entirely separate soapbox, I object to the fact that the entire configuration and management  is hosted in the internet.  Not very smart, if you loose internet connectivity, you no longer have a LAN.
Perhaps you can suggest what other alternatives I have besides discarding the device.

You might need to check if the router was using the correct power adapter. You could also try to reset the router (either the 30-30-30 reset or the 1 minute hardwire) and then power off the router afterwards. In case the router’s power light does continuously blink then, try to follow the steps from this link: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=a72f05de8a5f4a789db726d535ea68cb_KB__EN_v1.xml&pid... . If in the event that the router’s power light will still be blinking then you might perhaps consider to have the router returned and to have it replaced.

Was the restore done via iTunes?

If so then you may need to take it to Apple.

  • Xserve will not boot up, all lights flash rapidly

Just bought a lightly used Intel Xserve.  This unit was in a business that failed, and was set up, but never used.  Was powered off and unplugged for approximately 18 months.  When we tried to plug it up to check it out & configure it, we noticed the following:
System will not post and won't boot
Hard drives do not appear to spin
CD Drive appears to have no power - will not grab disk
All fans do work, and run on high RPM
All lights on back of server and front of server, as well as next to SDRAM slots, and on back of main board flash / flicker (regular quick flashes, no pattern evident).  The only light that does NOT come on at all is the light next to the power button.
Anyone heard of a similar condition?  Is this server toast?
    Thanks,
    Rob Hogan

I'm sorry to say I don't have a solution, but I can commiserate.
I have a G5 and two G4's, and so far within a few days / couple of weeks of getting them home and getting them up and running, they seem to fail.
    Usually spectacularily.
The G5 operates very much as yours in that power on, fans rev high, and no post or other activity; I don't get any system light status action however other than flashing. I've replaced CPU's and logic board on this.
The single CPU G4's does much the same, but this I've had up and running and then it went down when I upgraded the memory to max (very careful to make sure it was within Apple spec's), and despite swappinbg the original memory back in,nothing.
My latest, a dual core G4, was bought in working order, and I upgraded this from 10.4 to 10.5. Running nicely as a internet gateway. Went away for weekend so put it into sleep mode. Came back, power button on front panel stopped working, and one of the raid slices on the system drive failed.
Tried to repair this and system now no longer boots, but freezes on loading OS (spinning disc stops in mid spin) and it will not boot from installation disc via firewire or internal DVD drive (swapped in a replacement to ensure it works). The installation disc stops at the apple splash screen, but goes no further.
I can, helpfully, get into Open Firmware mode, so something is working on some level. Sadly, I can't seem to find a copy of the Apple Hardware Test for this machine (see my post on this) to check it out.
I can tell you that I'm getting very adept at working with Xserve hardware, if not very effectively.
My working hypothesis on this is that there is some issue with these units being used 27/7x365 for however long, and then being left 'off' for a prolonged period.
Thinking that whilst they are designed to operate reliably as constantly on and working under load, so facet of being 'off' breaks 'something'.
If really pushed to go out on a limb, I'd theorise that under load the electronics/IC's settle into position, but then when switched off things cool down, contract, and causes weaknesses in electrical connections to occur. When next used, these then start to fail, giving a pattern of initial operability followed by delayed failure with a cascade of increasingly servere symptoms until terminal failure is reached.
But that is wild, uneducated, conjecture.
So, no help, but I comiserate.
    XD Andy
btw, is anyone has some useful advice for me on where to find the AHT 2.0.1 for Xserve or even just the part number ... ... ...

  • WRT54G not working....all lights on

Last night my router was working fine. Xbox 360 was connected to Xbox Live and I was on the Internet on my PC. Then, I lost my connection all of a sudden. Connecting PC directly to the modem works fine, so it is definitely a router issue. Now, when I plug in the router, all the lights come on (except the Internet light). Power light blinks. (I understand this may be a firmware issue, but how can I upgrade the firmware if can't connect to the Internet thru the router?) I tried resetting the router and that didn't work. Any ideas?

Sounds like its been what they call "Bricked" or dead in other words.  What version and how old?  Can you ping the router?
