WRT54G Router and WUSB54G Adapter Lost Installation CD-Roms

A former student gave me a WRT54G Router and WUSB54G Adapter. However, he lost the installation CD-ROMs. Will I have to buy new hardware or are there other legal options? I look forward to any help I can get since this is my first attempt at setting up a wireless network at home. Thanks in advance. Outhouse2005

in order to install the router you can get an autoconfig tool on www.linksys.com/easy .. for the adapter , you can find the latest drivers on www.linksys.com/download

  • Wrt54GS router and Wrt54GS wireless adapter on Xbox 360

Totally new in the wireless router business, I bought the Wrt54GS router and the Wrt54GS adapter to connect my Xbox 360.
I installed the router with the cd and connected my pc on the router with a fixed ethernet cable.
    So far everything working fine.
Then connected the wireless adapter on the Xbox 360, but it seems like the Xbox 360 doesn't recognise the Wrt54GS adapter.
    What did i do wrong?
    Sebastian

Do you have wireless PC's ? are they able to go online ?
enable network security and also change the beacon to 50 and the RTS and fragmentation threshold by 40 each under the advanced wireless settings.

ok i need lots of help here... i have a WRT54G router and trying to hard wire a computer to it and wirelessly connect to a laptop... i have dsl internet connection... the power light is blinking constintly and when i try to setup the router the default password doesnt work already tried to reset the router and that didnt help... any thoughts> thanks

the power led blinking all the time can be caused by a corrupt firmware, or a defective power adapter,  try doing a hard reset, you may need to do it a couple of times, and then power down both the modem and router.
after a couple minutes, power up the modem, wait for the link led lights up, then power up the router and look for it to link up with the modem, at this time the power led on the router should be on solid if all is ok.
if it still don't light solid, you may need to do a firmware update, or the router is defective.

Dear All, I have currently buy a WRT54G router and would like to set it up remote desktop so that i can access the office system from my home. But after looking at the Port Forwarding in the Linksys,i do not know how to set as Linksys can only accept IP address start from 192.168.xxx.xxx while my house Prolink router is configure with IP address 10.0.xxx.xxx. The difference in IP address has make me confuse on to how should i go ahead with the settings. Hopefully anyone can help. Thanks a lot JQ

The WRT54G is connected to subnets: one on the internet port and one on the LAN side with the numbered ports and the wireless.
The LAN side uses 192.168.1.* by default. The router uses 192.168.1.1 on this side. This side is where you connect your computers. The connected computers can get addresses by the DHCP server on the WRT. The default address pool of the DHCP server is 192.168.1.100-149.
The internet/WAN port subnet is whatever the next router or your ISP has defined. The router gets a IP address assigned on this side, usually it is the public IP address provided by your ISP if the router is connected directly to the internet. If there is another router then the address of the WRT on the internet/WAN port is usually assigned by this router.
Port forwarding forwards a specific port number on the WAN IP address to a specific computer inside your LAN. Therefore the destination IP address of the router is always the LAN subnet 192.168.1.* as that is the subnet which is used on the LAN side.
If the internet/WAN port IP address of the router is not a public IP address, i.e. if there is another router which uses private addresses 10.0.*.* then you have to configure additional port forwarding on that router.
Remember that the destination of the port forwarding should always be a static IP address and not a DHCP assigned. The latter can change over time. Therefore the computer to which you forward the port should have a fixed static IP address configured on the computer.

  • Having Trouble Connecting To Xbox Live using my router and wireless adapter.

Okay, so this is kinda long but I'll try and speed through. Recently I moved from my old place to a newer place (larger) and before, my old spot worked perfectly, no troubles. Now, eversince i got my internet cable service re-hooked up I've had problems. My internet is fine, that's not the problem. It's my xbox live for my 360. My cable guy pretty much set up my living room with the main router and not my studio office which I keep my 360 in. Instead he told me it would be much easier to just go out and buy a wireless adapter for my PC to recieve the signal from my living room off the main family computer. Well, went out and bought a $80.00 wireless adapter top of the line and it works perfectly, I get the internet really fast. Problem is, my 360 will not connect now. It always says DNS failed. Well here's the problem. I have a Linksys router in my studio office that sits on top of my PC that i have connected to the ethernet of my PC, then in the 2nd or 1st port i have my 360ethernet wire connected to my xbox360. Still it says DNS failed. Shouldn't my router be getting the signal from my Wireless adapter that it's receiving from the living room? It's connected through the same computer yet it doesnt connect. It finds my I address, and it finds the network adapter yet it always fails my DNS. I've tried evern switching the xbox360 ethernet to the main ethernet port on my pc and that just makes me fail the IP address test. I need help guys. My wireless adapter for the pc is a Belkin but my router is a linksys and not sure if the 360 just doesnt recognize it or not. Is there settings I'm missing or something? Please help!!!
    The Burninator...

On your 360 if u getting an error msg DNS failed, you can login to your router setup page and go to status tab, not the Static DNS1 and DNS2 numbers and u can give a static dns to your 360. its will resolve ur issue.

  • WRT54G router and call of duty online gaming

I just bought the WRT54G wireless router and had no problem installing it. I was able to get internet connection on the wired desktop and the wireless laptop. However, when I start playing 'Call of Duty 4' online, within a couple of minutes I start to lose internet connectivity until it completely goes out. At the same time, I will lose connectivity on my laptop as well. In one iteration of fixing this problem, my laptop displayed a message that said something about an 'IP address conflict'.
I called tech support and tried a few different changes in configurations, including changing the MTU to 1400 and creating a static IP address in the 'Accessibility and Gaming' section of the Linksys configurations.
I read several other posts that mention a gaming wireless router (WK300TN or something like that). Do I need that even if I'm gaming on the wired desktop and not on the wireless laptop? Help!

yes WRT310N, WRT330N etc are build for good performance in gaming. Those would definitely improve situation.

  • Trying to create a password for router and wireless adapte

I was reading through alot of posts and just couldnt find an answer that worked.
I have a linksys wireless router, never had a pass set up on it, and lately
I find someone is connecting to my internet and I would like to put a password
on it. I found these instructions... but it wouldnt accept admin as the password
to allow me to create a new one. I followed these instructions.
"The default password of the router is admin. If you have set up a password  before, it will not recognize the default admin.Hold the reset button of the router for 10secs and it will retrieve the default admin...To change the default password, lauch internet explorer(pc should be connected to the router hardwired), type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1--it willl prompt for a username and password, leave username blank and password will be admin...It willl bring you to the set up page of the router..click on the administration tab and from there you can create your new password for your router... To encrypt the wireless network refer to our website, www.linksys.com/kb and search for answer id 759...it will walk you through with the process..."
I am using windows XP for OS and the Wireless G? The router is on my main PC
and the adapter is on my other PC. How do I go about obtaining a password on this? The Model # for the wireless piece is WMP54G not sure what it is on the actual router.
Message Edited by FullSmile on 09-17-2006 11:11 PM

If the router is not accepting the default admin password even after a reset of 10 sec you can hold down the reset button for 30 sec and if that doesn't work even, the other options would be to change browser settings, try a different comp, try upgrading the firmware of the router through tftp.exe.You can download the tftp.exe file from ftp.linksys.com/pub/network.

  • WRT54GS Router and speedtouch

    Hi,
I have just got a new modem (Speedtouch 516) from Primus (Canada) and I tried to connect it to my wireless router (WRT54GS) but I have no internet either by wired (ethernet) or wireless connection.
The modem works when it's connected directly to my computer. I know also that the router works fine because it can connect to the internet, if I connect it to my old modem (speedstream 6520; this is also a wireless modem/router itself, but I disabled my my wireless adaptor to see if it can be connected through ethernet  to the router, and it can!), but this is not an option since I wil have to return it to Bell.
I have already googled about this problem and I tried to setup my modem to "bridge" mode, but still I get no internet from the router.
The I.P. address the modem assigns  to my computer is 192.168.1.65 .
Any help would be much appreciated...

I'm trying to understand it ... first things first.
How is your physical setup, device wise and cabling wise ... I don't know this modem, but you put the cable from your PC's NIC interface to the WRT54GS's Port 1, And the cable from the internet port of the router to the LAN port on your modem?
Try to assign an IP address to your router like 2.1 via the web interface, if you can connect to it via this setup. My guess is, your modem is 1.1, so the router has to be 2.1. Your ISP assigns your 1.65, of course a PAT address.
So first things first ... what is the physcial setup like?
What are the IP addresses assigned to your PC, Modem and Router?
And also, once your set it up and assigned a new IP address to your router, in Windows (taking you got XP):
    ipconfig/renew !
Let's go from there, if it don't work, then it's something else. FIrst I thought you had a USB modem or something, I started with that years ago .
    Good luck !

  • WRT54G Router and VOIP/Softphone

I am having trouble using X-lite (softphone) with my WRT54G.  I just recently signed up for VOIP with Voip your Life and am using their X-lite software to start making phone calls.  The softphone works perfectly when my computer is hooked directly up to my modem, but when I run the modem into the router, and the router to my computer, it does not work.  So obviously there is a problem with the router, and the software is configured just fine.  I have tried port forwarding in the range of 5060-5069 and 16000-16500 as UDP protocol.  I was instructed by their tech support to set it up this way.  I also clicked off of "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" under the Security/Firewall settings.  Still no luck.  What else could be preventing the Internet phone from connecting to the internet?
Message Edited by Schreebs on 11-13-2007 03:33 PM

So obviously there is a problem with the router, and the software is configured just fine.
This is incorrect. It is usually a configuration problem on the softphone because your router only does what you want it to do which is NAT for your private LAN. You have to enable STUN in x-lite for NAT traversal of the router. Otherwise x-lite will register your private IP address with the provider which obviously won't work.
You should have a look into the log of x-lite. It shows you which packets have been sent out and which you have received. See if it only sends something out end does not get any responses. You can also see what IP address the softphone uses to register.

  • WRT54G Router and passphrase question

I purchased a laptop computer last week and a WRT54G router.  Got home, set it up with no major problems and had a question about the passphrase/password
My setup:  1 desktop computer and 1 laptop computer
The first time I got on my network from the laptop, it asked me for the passphrase and then let me on.  The next time I fired up the laptop, it just automatically connected me to my network
When I look at my network on my laptop, it says "Security-enabled".
Shouldn't I have to use the passphrase everytime I connect to my network?  Or, does my network recognize the laptop and automatically signs it in.

Lilla's Tips for Securing your Home Router...
Change the router password (default=admin) to a 32 character password using a Strong Password Generator (e.g., keygen, wlankeygen).
IP Address of the router. ... Many default to the standard 192.168.1 or 2 subnet internally and give the router itself the IP address of 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 ... consider changing the IP addressing to a difficult-to-guess internal subnet like 192.168.12.1 or 192.168.83.1 (you can use any number from 1 to 254 in the third position in most cases). Source: http://www.jiwire.com/wi-fi-security-home-networks-1.htm
Change your Wireless SSID from linksys (default) to something unique, that doesn't identify your hardware or you. Be aware that crackers use online lists like this one to lookup information that helps them gain access to systems with inadequate security.
    Use WPA/WPA2 not WEP encription
WEP = poor security (easily cracked/hacked)
WPA = good security when used with Strong Passwords - see Perfect Passwords below
    WPA2 = best security
Perfect Passwords - GRC's Ultra High Security - Password Generator
Since the passwords used to generate pre-shared keys are configured into the network only once, and do not need to be entered by their users every time, the best practice is to use the longest possible password and never worry about your password security again.
If you are connecting only 802.11g devices, select “G-Only” from the “Wireless Network Mode” menu. Likewise, choose “B-Only” for 802.11b devices. By selecting G-Only/B-Only, you lock out anyone trying to connect using anything else. Source: http://paininthetech.com/5_minute_wireless_network_security_for_your_home
Wireless SSID Broadcasting. By default it is enabled; assure that it has not been changed. Microsoft recommends that you do not configure access points as non-broadcast (hidden) networks; sources: KB929661, KB907405, KB811427. You will come across articles/posts that recommend disabling this, but this is old school thinking.
Disabling SSID broadcasting will not stop a wireless signal being found, and some wireless clients will not logon to the correct wireless signal without SSID being enabled. Source: http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47120
MAC address filtering. MAC address filtering without WPA or WPA2 is pretty much no security at all. And with WPA or WPA2 and a strong pre-shared key you don’t need it because WPA is considered secure and anyone who hypothetically has the power and knowledge to crack WPA would not be hindered by MAC address filtering to gain access to your WLAN. • WRT54GS Router and NAT 3 PS3 Problems

Ok. I need a lot of help. And yes. I used the search option prior to posting this topic and none of it answered my questions. I did try a few tips I saw firsthand at these topics but it still didn't solve my Nat 3 Problem. Heres my ps3s setup basically. Set the MTU to 1365, in the firewall settings unchecked Block Anonymous Internet Requests, In the Applications and Gaming tab I put my PS3s IP address in the DMZ. Tested my connection on my PS3 and the same NAT 3. I want to **bleep** a brick now because I have been frustrated by this. Googling didn't help. So I am hoping you guys can help me figure this out. FYI: I am changing this setting through the LAN connected from my PC to the router and I have my PS3 wired to the router also. With this NAT 3 problem my downloads are slow as hell and although I haven't tested online gaming yet this will be a huge factor in the lag.

Try forwarding ports TCP: 80, 443, 5223 UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658 on the rotuer setup page ... See if it works ...

  • WRT54GS Router and IP Address Madness

I currently have my laptop hard wired thru my Linksys router and on to my modem without any issues (connects to my ISP just fine) . I am attempting to get my laptop setup wirelessly to the same router. Using the 192.168.1.1 url to access the Linksys configuration pages for my router, I believe I have configured everything correctly. When I go to the Linksys Status page I have the following items configured:
    Router   auto config DHCP
                  ip addr 24.17.123.165
                  subnet 255.255.248.0
                  default gateway 24.17.120.1
                  dns1 68.87.69.146
                  dns2 68.87.85.98
Local Area Network  IP Address 192.168.1.1
                                      subnet 255.255.255.0
                                      DHCP Server Enabled
                                      Start IP 192.168.1.100
                                      End IP   192.168.1.149
    Client Table mylaptop
                         IP Addr 192.168.1.101
    Wireless      Mode mixed
                         SSID  xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                         DHCP Enabled
                         Channel 11
                         Encrypt Enabled
When I try to connect wirelessly I get  a LIMITED OR NO CONNECTIVITY message. I assume that if I am using the auto configure option the network did not assign an address to the computer?????
When I look at the Network Connection details it shows the following:
       IP address 169.254.108.146
      subnet          255.255.0.0
       default gateway   NONE
       DNS Server         NONE
       WINS Server       NONE
I am sure this is the culprit but I don't know what to do to fix the problem.
I also did an ipconfig/all which also showed the same IP Address, subnet, and lack of default gateway address. I tried to do a ipconfig/reset and a ipconfig/renew with out any luck. It kept reseting the IP Address to 169.254.108.146.
I am stuck and would appreciate any advice. Thanks

As you posted you are using WEP enabled wireless settings .... check on the router setup page ... the WEP key .... Use the same wep key on the Laptop to connect to the network ....
If still you are facing the same error .... assign static Ip to the wireless network connection .... & see if it shows connected or not...

  • Help with wireless router and usb adapter

I have a model WRT54G2V1 and a USB adapter. They were working fine until about 3 months ago, then suddenly I couldn't connect to the internet. I began using my wife's computer for my email. I have a web site that I need to update.  I spent 2-hours with Tech support today and they could not help me. The error messages say "cannot find access point" and then sometimes "cannot connect to internet". I think it may be my computer, but am very unsure. I have unistalled and reinstalled with no luck. Can anyone help me, please? I'm lost and not good with this stuff. Thanks.

In your computer click on "start" then "connect to" then "show all connections".  You should be seeing two icons under "lan or high speed internet"  Your wireless connection should showing a blue screen while the lan should be greyed out.  If the lan is showing a blue screen right click on it and click on disable.  Now try to connect using your wireless adaptor.  If it did not work go to #2.
Disconnect wireless adaptor then go into programs and uninstall wireless adaptor program.  Reconnect wireless adaptor to computer.  The "found new hardware" should appear.  Run the wizard and when it asks for drivers insert Linksys cd.  Try to connect.  You may have to click on repair if you don't succeed then try again.  Go to #3
Powercycle your router. Try to connect.  I have three computers connected wirelessly and the one farthest away from the router has problems connecting.  Usually this solves the problem.
