WRT54G Router cannot connect to internet

I have Earthlink DSL and am trying to connect to the internet via the WRT54G from my Dell desktop. (Can connect to internet directly through modem just fine.)Have ethernet cable connected to DSL modem and router internet port. Have other cable connected to ethernet desktop port and port1 on router. Setup CD fails on "checking internet connection."
Per tblshooting docs:
Have changed IP to 192.168.2.1
Have changed to PPPOE, with ISP [email protected] and password.
Powered off modem, router, PC. Restarted.
Try to connect to internet--Earthlink dial-up pop-up comes up because there's no DSL connection.
Help.

On top of IE.... go to tools... internet options... then connections... then check the box that says never dial a connection.....
Go back to default 1st on the router. Start from scratch by pressing the reset button of the router for 20-30 seconds , then power down router for 10 seconds and power it back up.
The go back to the router interface (192.1681.1) and leave it as just Obtain IP Automatically or Automatic Configuration DHCP... then go to MAC Address Clone.. enable... clone... save settings... then go to the status page and tell us what is the Internet IP Address value that you see...

  • WRT54G router cannot access the Internet

My wireless PC can access the router but cannot access the Internet.
When I ping linksys.com - the ping times out; however, when I ping my ISP I get 4 pings back. When I ping the router the ping is successful as I get 4 pings back.
I am sure there is a fix for this problem. Can anyone help me get connected to the internet?
    Thanks
I just got DSL in my area and installed it. I have a Linksys WRT54G router and a zyxek 660R DSL modem. I have a PC #2 in the room down the hall and a PC #1 in another room. I have a Wireless-G USB adapter in PC #2 (this is the antenna for the wireless connection). Everything is installed and PC #1 can connect to the internet through the modem and router. However PC #2 can only reach the access point (router) and will not access the internet. I can connect to the internet for PC #2 when an ethernet wire is used directly but it is not great to have a wire running down the hall. I pinged the router from PC #2 and the echos look fine. So it can certainly reach the router. When I use the Local Network tab and click on DHCP Clients table both PCs are displayed. So how can a PC use a wireless connection to reach the internet? I have spent 4 days already trying to get this to work. My ISP can't seem to help.
    Thanks for your help.

hi... logon to router's setup page and try changing channel to 1 or 11, click on the advanced wireless settings and try reducing beacon interval to 50, fragmentation and RTS threshold to 2304, also try upgrading latest firmware on the router...also
if you are using Win XP system try uninstalling the adapter from the computer...click on start >> programs >> wireless G USB adapter >> uninstall, put the CD in for the adapter and restart the computer, one window pops up "found new hardware" try installing the drivers, no need to install WLAN software or utility and use windows WZC (wireless zero configuration) to manage wireless connection...check whether it works for you or not and let me know the results.

  • E1200 Router - Cannot Connect To Internet

I just purchased this new router as my old Netgear one that I had for a few years is starting to give me some troubles...however I'm having some issues.
First of all, I don't have a modem. I have a fibre optic internet service and all I have to do is plug the router directly into the wall with a Cat5 cable.
However, when I did so with the new router, it is saying that it does not detect an internet connection in the routers internet port...and the only solutions it shows is to reset the modem...however like I said I don't have a modem.
I already called my fiber provider and had them reset the connection but it did not do anything.
Has anyone else run into a problem like this? If you need more information let me know.

What E1200 version do you have and what's the firmware version? The router is not able to resolve an Internet IP Address from the FiberOptic. Just a hunch, try connecting the FiberOptic to the LAN port of the E1200 (ports 1-4) and check if there is internet access. Or try to clone the MAC address of your computer on the router using the procedures on this link: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=140c95d5a54647e3bbd4e30e49fb1af6_Resolving_no_Inte...

  • Cannot connect to internet on ipad mini need to use 'other network' please help

cannot connect to internet need another network as haven't password

The Other Network option is so you can connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot that might have its name hidden.  Other Network gives you the oppertunity to type the name of the hidden Wi-Fi hotspot so the iPad can see it.
If you are looking for a Wi-Fi hotspot to join, but can not because you do not have the password to join that network, you will need to ask the hotspot's owner for permission and a password before you can join.
If you have internet in your house and you want to connect your iPad Mini to the internet, you will need a wireless router or access point.  Ask your internet provider, they may already have that available for you and it would be a quick setup for them.
    Good luck,

  • Setting up WRT54GL cannot connect to Internet

I am so elementary in my problem that I feel foolish, but I keep getting the message that the router cannot connect to the Internet.  Why the heck not?  I am currently posting on the same laptop, using the same DSL modem and Internet connection.  So why can't the router see it?  The last time I tried again, starting over from scratch, it kept doing and redoing "checking your computer connections" and then asking me yet again from my password.  I didn't know if it wanted the original preset "admin" or the one I had sometime back (hours ago) entered the first time this was asked.  So I tried both.  Eventually it moved on to reset the password or something, and I finally ended up back at "the router cannot connect to the Internet.  Power off and back on the DSL Modem."  I have done that already too many times to count.  And again I say, this DSL connection direct from the modem to my laptop is fine.  But when the Internet cable goes through the router and then the other cable goes to my laptop, no Internet.  All the time my DSL modem displays a green light for Internet.  And the Router shows a light on Internet.
I am too tired to go any further tonight.  Maybe somebody has a simple suggestion.  I'll check back tomorrow.
Thanks for helping this rank amateur.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try to configure the router manually.
Connect the modem to the Internet port and computer to Ethernet port 1 on the router.
Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.
Follow this link to configure the router with DSL Internet Service.

  • Got a new computer, just downloaded i-tunes and such all over again. Now wanting to watch a movie and Apple TV is saying "cannot connect to internet"

We're trying to watch a movie using our Apple TV. It is saying "cannot connect to internet?"  WE thought it was because we just got a new computer, so i went through the process of downloating i-tunes all over again...yet we still have the problem. ??? PLease help

    Linda
    What exactly has changed?
    Just the computer, other things?
More information on your actual setup is needed -  Particularly how things are connected on the local network and to each other.
In theory the new computer should not affect Apple TV's ability to rent and play a movie if the rental was made on the AppleTV itself.  The problem may have nothing to do with the new computer unless changes have been made on the router to let it connect and it's caused AppleTv to disconnect, or the PC has been assigned the AppleTV's IP address which is no longer available to AppleTV hence it thinks it's lost connection.
Try powering off the router, restarting and see if the AppleTV internet connection returns. Restart AppleTv too if needed. Check any ethernet cable connections or wi-fi settings on AppleTV if it doesn't re-establish the internet connection.  By the way an ethernet cable plugged into AppleTV will disconnect it's wi-fi connections.

  • Airport problem-cannot connect to internet since update

I like many folks here is new to a Mac. I have a iMac intel duel processor. i apparently did this update to 10/4/8 10/2/06. Since then airport does not work and I cannot connect to internet at all. I have talked to Apple customer service but so far no help there. They want me to reinstall disc that came with computer. I also have a new MacBook that has update also. I can set it beside the iMac in my office and it works great. We have a wirelss system in our home and a PC and the MacBook still connect with no problem. Settings on iMac and MacBook look identical to what I can tell. Nothing I try to connect works, rebooting, change some setting. Can anyone offer easy to follow suggestions to a new Mac user. Thanks

Since it's only the iMac that's having the issue connecting using WPA, we don't need to troubleshoot the router or the other computers.
I suggest trying the following on the iMac before attempting to reload the previous version of the OS.
If you use "Preferred Networks," instead of "Automatic" for your "By default, join" setting Location, try the following:
System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort > AirPort tab
    - Delete all preferred networks with encryption
    - Add them again after manually connecting
(Note: It will be faster if you turn on "Automatically add new networks to preferred networks list" under "Options" of the AirPort network connection.)
If this doesn't work, something might have gone wrong with the update to 10.4.8. I would suggest that you follow the Apple Tech's recommendation and reinstall the previous OS using the installation disk that came with your iMac.

  • I cannot update ios as it says itunes cannot connect to internet, but it is

Hi everybody, please help me. I've been trying to update my ipad for ages. If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

    Wi-Fi Setup Considerations
Things to consider before you begin
Start with a plan for the physical layout. Depending on whether you have an existing Wi-Fi network, or if you are using your AirPort Express as a standalone Wi-Fi device, there are several options available for you to choose from.
When using Ethernet, Cat6 cable is recommended.
The layout you choose should take into account environmental factors such as physical access, location, range, radio frequency interference, etc.
You will need to consider what AirPort Utility settings to adopt.
You will need to know whether you are using an AirPort Express (802.11b/g) or an AirPort Express (802.11a/b/g/n).
If you will be using more than one Wi-Fi base station, it may be helpful to read the article Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations.
