WRT54G slow wireless / internetconnection - same ol problem can't find solution

Well I have read alot of posts about this but nothing has helped. I have the WRT54G v.6 w/ latest firmware. Wired connection i get about 22mbps when checking on a speekcheck site, wireless doesn't go above 8mpbs. Now i know wireless is alot slower, but it does state 54mbps. I know I will never get that fast but it should go over 10mbps. I think there is some setting I'm missing. Any suggestions / help is appreciated.
I have tried:
-Changing channels
-Changing the MTU
-disabling all firewall programs
-update firmware
-no other 2.4ghz phones or devices around
-changing the settings in "advance wireless configuration" to specs linksys chat suggested
-chatted with linksys numerous times.
I'm running WINXP Home. Any help is appreciated!

Hi.. Well there would be some difference in the wired speed and wireless speed. Thats beacuse packets send on wireless network has heavy payload (header and footer), which involves lots of protocols. The payload also depends upon the wireless security implimented on the network. This may results in the difference in the connection speed (54mbps) and throughput speed (10 mbps). You can try to reduce the Fragmentation and RTS thresholds to 2304 on that router. Also try to upgrade the firmware of the router and disable the firewalls and spyware on the PC.

You are wright the index file is 308 KB.
And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)

Did you check the advanced song controls, it might be set to "repeat one song".

Wireless working, but Airport Utility can't find base station

I am having issues with Apple TV and iTunes that led to me investigating my new Airport Extreme base station (AEBS) as possible cause.
Oddly, I'm right next to the AEBS now and the wireless is working sweetly as I type. However, when I use the Airport Utility to access the base station, it can't find it - I can 'rescan' for all the hours but with no luck.
Any ideas what's going on here?

I've just encountered this problem for the first time. On my brand new MacBook Air (Leopard factory installed), I opened Airport Utility, entered Manual Setup, and restarted my Airport Extreme from the Base Station menu. It restarted, but once it was back up the Airport Utility could no longer find it, even though I was connected to the internet (and the Network preferences pane showed connection and a green light).
I have a MacBook (vintage 2007) that's still on Tiger -- I've never had any problem using Airport Utility from there, so I imagine I can still configure the base station from there. But I hope this issue is on Apple's radar so there'll be a Airport Utility update that fixes it.

Font problem, can you find a solution?

When I upfraded to Snow Leopard, I had a prblem with fonts. In any browser, a strange font was active instead of a normal one. Attached, is a picture where he problem can be seen. I've already tried to delete the duplicated fonts in Font Book which worked the fisrst time but now I have the same problem but I can't really set the deault font back on. I've also tried to change the fonts in the browser settings but it doesn't seem to be the problem too.

I really didn't install any new font....
Maybe not directly, but an app you installed must have dumped more fonts onto your drive, as the one shown isn't any font that comes with OS X.
But how can I delete all the fonts I have installed myself?
Check the Fonts folder in your user account. If there are any fonts in it, remove them. Otherwise, compare the contents of the /Library/Fonts/ folder with this list and remove any which are not in the list.
Another way to find it is to open Font Book (or whatever font manager you're using) and click through them one at a time until the preview you see matches the bad font. Remove it.

N9600gt-md512 BIOS problem (can't find)

I was trying to update the BIOS via msi live update on the n9600gt-md512 VGA, but after that, the VGA does not starts. I am 99.9% sure some software problem was made. I want to flash BIOS via nvflash in DOS (I can do this) but I can't find the BIOS. Can someone, somewhere post the BIOS to this VGA, or send me on email removed to protect user from spam

Lightroom 4 catalog problem-can't find photos.

Lightroom 4 catalog does not recognize photos when external hard drive switched to a different USB port. The photos are in My Photopraphs in an external hard drive. I recently had to switch ports and now the catalog can't find the photos.

The tutorial was updated a few weeks back, and since Lr5 uses different badges to denote missing files I created a new version. Your link goes to the new version but OP is using version 4.

Simple problem, can't find my original user pic

Remember when you first set up your new mac, and it takes your picture for the administrative user account. Well, I accidently replaced that picture with a less flattering one. I can't find the original pic that my mac took but would like to find it. I have backed up my system but this is something so minor to revert to a previous state.
Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure that's the right file name?
On mine, it's com.apple.user50#pictureCache.userImage
While it is a tif format apparently - renaming it as com.apple.user50#pictureCache.tif allows it to open in Preview, if you search for tif it probably won't show up.

I notice that when there are more than 6 tabs, only the current tab has a close button.

Using router and USB wireless on same machine but can't browse

Hello, everybody.
I have a WRT54G connected to my desktop to enable a laptop to exchange files with me.
Also have a WUSB54G on the same machine to connect to a local hotspot.
Problem is I lose the ability to browse the net when the router is connected.
Does anyone know how to configure this setup so the web browser (IE6) will look for the internet through the USB adaptor instead of trying to go through the router?

Are you able to go online, when your computer is connected directly to the router?? also your laptop is able to go online?? If computer is running on Win XP…. you need to completely uninstall wireless adapter from computer click on start >> programs >> wireless G USB adapter >> uninstall, insert the CD for adapter and restart the computer, one window would pops up found new hardware, install only the drivers no need to install software or utility and use WZC to manage wireless connections…check whether it works or not.

Macbook Pro/linksys wrt54g slow wireless/wired network connection solution.

I was pulling my hair out looking for a solution for this and it did not seem anyone had too much luck here. Hopefully this will help you all...
Setup:
- Macbook Pro, Mac mini, 2 windows boxes (not mine), 1 linux box
- Linksys WRT54G v6 with dd-wrt installed. This solution should work with the standard WRT54G firmware.
Symtoms:
- All other computers performed fast on internet speed tests and on network transfers.
- Macbook Pro Internet connection was slow (40KB/s on both the wired and wireless network using wpa)
- Macbook Pro internal connection was slow (2MB/s on both the wired and wireless network using wpa)
Things I tried to resolve this:
- Disable IP v6 (no effect)
- Set DNS Servers field to the dns servers as reported by the router. (Increased the initial speed but this quickly decreased making it useless... not to mention impractical)
Thing that resolved my issue.
- Disabled STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) on the router. In the DD-WRT it is towards the top of the Setup tab. I'm not sure where it is on the default firmware sorry.

Not sure if you performed this or not, once you do a factory reset, immediately after that you are suppose to perform a factory reset by holding is the reset button in on the back of the linksys router for 30 seconds, then wait about 2-3 minutes for the router to sync back up.
Important = Write down your previous settings in the router as they will be erased and you will have to manually input the info.

Here are some steps to follow for a slow or poor connection.
1.      Give your network a unique SSID and do not use Linksys and set your SSID Broadcast to enable.
2.      You can also try A different channel. There are 11 channels and 1, 6 or 11 is better
3.      You can try raising your router approximately 4-6 feet above the floor and make sure the antennas are vertical.
4.      access your wireless software by going to your Profile or preferred networks, if any are named Linksys or ones that you do not know please delete them. Go to the settings or properties and check the information to make sure it is correct.
5.      See if there are any updated drivers to download.
6.      Try to use WPA encryption if you can
*** As always upgrade to the latest firmware

VERY slow wireless, FAST wired internet problem

Someone... PLEASE help me. I just spent 2 hours w/apple, and they couldn't fix it.
I have the airport extreme base station. It was working FINE, until a few day/a week ago. Now when I connect using my airport card in my MBP or my iMac, it get about 17KB/sec. If I go wired, I get almost 2MB/sec. Apple coudn't help me. Is there anyway around this? My dell laptop (for work) connects to the extreme base station and gets about 2MB/sec, so it has to do with something on the Apple side.
Any suggestions? I'd hate to go and buy another router and having to scrap this expensive router and the airport express I bought. That's $300 right down the freakin' drain....

First, double-check the AirPort settings on the iMac. They should be nearly identical to those of the MBP.
Then, make sure that your iMac has the latest AirPort updates applied.
Other things to try...
- Create a new "clean" OS X user account, and then, logon as that user. (Note: You will want to keep this new account "clean," i.e., don't use it daily or add programs so that you can use it for any future troubleshooting session as needed.)
- Create a new AirPort Location, and then, switch to this location.
- Check Network Port Configurations and verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it's not, drag it to the top. While there, see if there are any other ports enabled that you are not using (Modem, Bluetooth, etc.) and disable them.
- Remove AirPort configuration (.plist) files. Start by moving the AirPort preference files to a safe location. OS X will rebuilt these files after you restart the computer. The particular files to try are (I's assuming that you have OS X 10.4+ on the iMac):
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
- preferences.plist
- NetworkInterfaces.plist
- com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
Start with the first one, restart the computer and check the wireless performance. If no improvement, move on to the next, and so on. Remember to move them to a "safe" location first, just in case you need to restore them.
