WRT54G, TalkAmerica DSL; random disconnections

Okay, using a wired connection with this router on two computers seems to work fine sometimes, but both computers become disconnected at random from the Internet at least once a day and I have to reset the modem and router to get everything working again. I set my modem to 192.168.1.1 and router to 192.168.2.1 as the help page said (before I did that I couldn't connect to the Internet at all). Anyone know how to fix this?
Also, this doesn't happen when the modem is connected directly to the computer.Message Edited by espio on 01-09-200708:04 PM

hi..try adjusting the mtu settings to 1392.....also, if possible try to set up the modem in bridge mode ... on the router select the internet connection type as "pppoe" and select the keep alive option...
let me know whether it works for you.....

I have upgraded the firmware, reset, rebooted, everything the non english speaking tech support told me. The router still randomly disconnects. The only way to fix it is to reboot it. HELP. I am a gamer, and cant have this.

LOL.... been there... done that. Modem is fine. I've sifted through these forums and the FAQ's before I made a post. All the noob steps have been done man. Trust me. I did come across somewhere else though that the newer versions of this modem are made with less memory and therefore may be a hardware issue that can't be fixed. Is this true?Message Edited by Mojofoot on 02-12-200707:40 PM

  • Anyone else experiencing this? WRT54G version 6 random disconnects

My router randomly disconnects from the internet and only a reboot will get it back. Very bad for gaming. I have updated the firmware, reset, and reboot the router countless times. I have cable internet, so I disconnected the computer from the router and hooked it directly tot he modem.... no disconnects. Any suggestions?

I don't suppose a version 6 can be downgraded to a 3 with just a firmware change? Anyway, I too have had many problems of dropping connections and having to reboot my laptop and re-running "Secure Easy Setup". Today I downgraded my security settings from WPA-Personal to WEP 128 bit and so far have had no dropouts. Wonder if anyone else has tried this approach? If so, then Lynksys needs to do some serious re-working of their security software. BTW, I was never able to make WPA-2 ever work...system always reverted to WPA-Personal.

  • WRT54G v5 Randomly Disconnects

Hi, I have been having this problem for the last couple of weeks and am not sure what the problem is. My WRT54G v5 router is connected via Ethernet cable from a cable modem to 2 PCs. Lately, the router randomly disconnects(i.e. there is no set amount of time in between disconnections - the interval has been as small as 30 seconds and as large as several hours), then reconnects automatically. Every time it disconnects it reconnects itself. However, I'm pretty sure this is not typical behavior and would like to fix it - especially as it severely limits online gaming. When I take the router out of the loop and connect either computer straight to the cable modem, I have no problems no matter how long I seem to be online. I have updated the router to the latest firmware version and that has no effect. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would be very grateful.`Thank you for your time.

I have already upgraded the firmware to v1.02.5 build 002, Jan. 9, 2008, and I haven't noticed an improvement. Like I said, it's completely random. Some days it won't disconnect at all. Other days it disconnects fairly often. But I have no problems when I bypass the router and connect straight to the cable modem. Thank you for the response. If you have any other thoughts, I'm open to suggestions.

  • New DSL service and random disconnects

Hello, I just moved into a brand new house and had Verizon DSL installed a few days ago. Everything is brand new in the home, and even the neighborhood itself. I'm experiancing random disconnect from the internet. I have the Verizon DSL 3mps plan and the Westell 7500 wireless router/modem. All the lights on the modem stay green but the internet light will just go out. It won't flash or anything. It just loses it's connection. When I reboot the route/modem it will then reconnect to the internet. Sometimes it can stay connected for 12 hours other times it will disconnect every 15 minutes. The DLS light stays connected however the whole time. I have no phones/faxes/DVR's hooked into my phone jacks. The only device hooked into a phone jack is my modem. I lost the log files of my last disconnect when I rebooted the modem. If you need that I can post it later when it disconnects again. Here are some specs from the router:
    Transceiver Information
Down Stream Path         Up Stream Path

Do you have a house alarm? The alarm uses the phone to dial out and needs a special filter installed at the alarm jack. (RJ31X)

  • Random Disconnection From My Wireless Access Point

I got my MacBook a few weeks ago, wand I'm loving it... for the most part.
Info: I've been using my Linksys WRT54G router for years. I've never had a problem. I currently have a desktop Mac connected to it along with my MacBook, and the connection on the Mac is fine.
*The problem:* My MacBook doesn't hold a steady connection to my router, even when I'm just mere feet away.
*What happens:* I have a very strong connection on my WiFi with the built-in AirPort. Then, a few seconds later, all of the 4 bars drop to 0 for a few seconds, jump back to 4, go back down to 0... you get the picture. I find this frustrating, as the internet may shut down for a minute at a time, regain connection for a few seconds, and then lose connection after about 10 seconds. I am unable to use iChat (it shuts down whenever I lose connection), or easily browse the internet.
*I know it's not the router. My desktop Mac connects with ease. Should I take my MacBook to a Genius Bar?*

  • Disconnects on Accessing HH and Random Disconnects...

System is BT HH Ver 2.0 Type B with Firefox v.3.6.13
On a number of occasions I have found random disconnects in the event log and disconnects when I go to access the HH and type in my password, when the BB light goes out and then the yellow comes on and it begins the reconnect sequence.   These are shown in the Log, but it doesn't seem to make any obvious change to the line synch rate.

The events at 20:02 and 22:55 were caused by my accessing the HH and typing in my password.   The others were random disconnects - the HH has not been switched off for some days and the computer was only switched on aorund 15:00 hrs.
The line synch rate at 23:12 is
    Downstream    10,134 Kbps
    Upstream    1,078 Kbps
The changes to the Noise Margin/Attneuation and Power are very minor fractions of a dB from previous checks.  The line is quiet.  Distance to the Crowthorne exchnage is ca 966m.
I have even had disconnects using IE 6.0 on Feb 3.
Does anybody else get these effects?   Is it a faulty HH?   Is it some interference on the line?
This looks similar to the problem under "home hub keeps resetting" from "technobaz" today

Further to the saga of disconnects shown by my HH2 Events Log I have had helpful support from Forum
Moderators.   They arranged for OpenReach technician to call again subsequent to the 25 Feb visit on 9
March.    The Moderators could still see my line problems from their site (where ever that is!).   I have had
the HH2 Type B powered on for over two months (to ensure line stability) and the line Down Rate has
    gradually reduced
    17 Jan 2011     Downstream    11,347 Kbps      Upstream    828 Kbps
            Noise margin (Down/Up)    14.8 dB / 12.6 dB
            Line attenuation (Down/Up)    27.0 dB / 11.9 dB
    9 Mar 2011    Downstream    1,151 Kbps     Upstream    1,078 Kbps
             Noise margin (Down/Up)    27.9 dB / 8.0 dB
            Line attenuation (Down/Up)    26.7 dB / 11.8 dB
the ADSL statistics had varied slightly over the period and the Event Log typically showed disconnects with
    the text, e.g.
    Feb 2 06:13:45 2011    (112240.430000) danube_dsl_ioctl:73: Failed ioctl 270 errno 22
Feb 1 22:43:17 2011    (85302.200000) RTNL: Received ERROR reply 'No such process' for message
    type 0x19

    Feb 1 22:42:42 2011    (85267.560000) danube_dsl_ioctl:73: Failed ioctl 250 errno 22
My line still showed the disconnects.    I also tried my neighbour's HH2 Type A for 24 hrs on 7/8 Mar for
comparison.  He was getting no disconnects on his line.   The Type A Event Log  showed on the 8 Mar my
line disconnects, albeit in a slightly different set of "text language" to the Type B -  so it was not a router
    problem!

On the 9 Mar visit, OpenReach made a series of comprehensive tests isolating the house/manhole line,
checking equipment in the exchange and green street interface box/exchange line.   My house line (some
10m) was showing good insulation resistance and similarly the box/exchange line a very high insulation
resistance.   The value surprised me, but a Google check shows a value of 10000 Mohms/km may be
    typical.
However, somewhere between the green box and my pavement manhole the insulation resistance was low.
I am now awaiting for the bad section to be located and my present twisted pair to exchanged for a good
pair.   I hope after a few days the Line Synch Rate may get back to the original values.

  • My phone will randomly disconnect from the wifi and when I retype the password it says it is wrong. It will eventually work but I have to wait for a message to pop up on my screen to allow me to retype the wifi password.

When I first got my phone it worked perfectly fine with the wifi. Although later on I began to have problems connecting it. It will randomly disconnect from the wifi and when I try to retype the password it tells me it is wrong, although it is right. It will eventually work but in its own time, a message will pop up and allow me to type in the password and it will work. But sometimes it takes an hour or more and sometime it takes 10 minutes. I've seen where other people have had this problem but I don't know how to fix it. I'm not sure if it's an issue with my phone or if it's with my wifi. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Does this happen with all Wi-Fi hotspots?  A specific one?
Have you tried forgetting the Wi-Fi connection and then reconnecting to it?
What about power cycling the Wi-Fi router?

All, I can tell is that my wlp5s0u1 doesn't go down, but a few seconds before I plug in my wireless bridge, or enp4s0, my 'Internet stops...' Or I can't search google, and my youtube stops streaming, conky says that about 30bytes get transfered from that point on, and there is no errors?!
I'm not on a laptop, and my device's power saver is set to off. And as I'm not getting the second error I don't know how to fix this.
    $ iw dev wlp5s0u1 get power_save
    Power save: off
(Sorry if this is blatantly obvious, I've only had arch for under a month, with no prior Linux experience, and my dad can't help me with it too!)
    EDIT:
Please can someone please tell me something that I can try or look into to resolve this, I have a useless dongle now, and an Internet connection that drops at least 50% of the packets.

  • IPod Classic Randomly Disconnects from Car Stereo

I have a 160GB iPod Classic that is hooked up to my car stereo. Previously it was connected to a 2012 Kia Sorento SX and it would just randomly disconnect from the stereo and freeze. The only way to get it back was to do a hard reset (menu/select button held down), then start playing a song, and then connecting to the stereo. It didn't happen frequently, but maybe once or twice a month.  Annoying.  But I thought it had to do with the way Kia implemented the connection to the iPpd.
I just recently acquired a 2014 Acura MDX and I've already had that same annoying problem twice in 2 days. So now I'm starting to think maybe it's the iPod.
In the past, I've done a full restore, repaired the drive, etc. Nothing seemed to help.
    Any ideas?  Thanks!!

Sometimes this works. Otherwise you will have to wait for an updte to the car system or the iOS on the iPod
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset the car system
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Network drives randomly disconnecting, unable to reconnect

I have been having an issue with network drives randomly disconnecting. When I try and reconnect using the Connect to Server dialog, the share is greyed out. My current workaround has been to open up terminal and run umount /Volume/Share_Name, and I am able to connect again afterwards. This is happening multiple times a day, and across multiple servers. I have poked around the forums and seen some people with similar issues, but the solution of connecting with cifs:// instead of smb:// has not made any difference.

which ultimately means apple didn't do enough testing before releasing the last patch
This is not always, and may not be, the case. What many don't realise is that many 3rd party developers stray from the 802.11 series specifications in an attampt to boost speed and get one up on their competitors. For instance D-Link, amongst others, use a short preamble setting by default in some of their routers to improve performance. However, this is non-standard and when it comes across wireless network adapters that don't support this then you have problems. They assume that their network adapters are being used for "maximum speed and compatibility". Whether Apple should or should not support a short preamble is another subject altogether.
However, I do agree with you in that Apple should put more work into their Airport software.

Wifi randomly disconnects from my macbook pro running 10.9.2.  Rebooting is necessary to regain the wifi connection.  The wifi power indicator indicates a full connection, but the card sees no wifi networks. and lots of them, for a few minutes and then it stops.  When I search around for solutions for this I see "contact TAC" repeatedly.  Can anyone help me determine if I have a cm problem or a network problem.  He did reboot the cluster 12 days ago and it didn't stop the problems.  The disconnect errors related to all components of the phone system (cucm, cuc, uccx, cups) and have been anything from "SDL link to remote application is out of service", "OUT-OF-SERVICE AppID : Cisco UP Presence Engine ClusterID", "
The Cisco UP Presence Engine service on the peer node of a subcluster has failed AppID : Cisco Syslog Agent ClusterID", "user 2 ntpRunningStatus.sh: Primary node NTP server, SVUCCX01, is currently inaccessible or down"
So its just like all communication breaks and then comes back again.  I'd like to do as much leanring as possilble with this and not just run to TAC.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Dustin,
Please see the explaination for the error you are getting:-
CCM_CALLMANAGER-CALLMANAGER-1-SDLLinkOOS : SDL link to remote application is out of service  Remote Application IP Address [String] Unique Link ID [String] Local Node ID [UInt] Local Application ID [Enum]Remote Node ID [UInt] Remote Application ID [Enum]
Explanation   This alarm indicates that the local Unified CM has lost communication with the remote Unified CM. This alarm usually indicates that a node has gone out of service (whether intentionally for maintenance or to install a new load for example; or unintentionally due to a service failure or connectivity failure).
Recommended Action   In the Cisco Unified Reporting tool, run a CM Cluster Overview report and check to see if all servers can communicate with the Publisher. Also check for any alarms that might have indicated a CallManager failure and take appropriate action for the indicated failure. If the node was taken out of service intentionally, bring the node back into service.

    CallManager
The most common Lost communication for CallManagers could be Callmanager server hang, network problems or high CPU
You can use RTMT to monitor this.
CM servers keep a TCP connection to other servers in the cluster. When that TCP connection is broken due to network connectivity or lack of server resources, the above error is generated.
Also the sdi traces you have provided won't be useful to analyze the problem but rather please take detailed sdl traces.
If possible then take SDL detailed traces with sniffer filtering TCP port 8002 in order to find out if this is a Network problem or not.
Sometimes due to highly fragmented disk can cause heavy disk I/O utilizing all the CPU.
Was there any upgradation or migration activity was carried out in network?
Please check the server NIC and switch NIC or other NIC have the same speed/duplex settings.

  • Wrt600n / wpc600n random disconnect issues

    hi,
i've been running the new AP / cards for a few weeks now, and am seeing some weird behavior on them.
when connected to the AP using either vista (using windows to manage wireless setting), or in xp (using the linksys utility), i'm getting random disconnects. the wireless connection will just drop from 1-10 seconds, then reconnect on it's own.
for these connections, i am forcing the AP and cards to use the n band.
the AP is set to N mode only, and all other settings on the AP are set to Auto. the clients are using all default settings as well, and this issues occurs during web surfing, email, etc. and is repeatable.
    any suggestions?

  • ESATA HDD Random Disconnect SOLVED!!!

    Fellow ThinkPad owners:
I've spent the greater part of the past two days trying to resolve the issue of my eSATA connected ThinkPad 500GB SHDD's tendency to randomly disconnect itself. I had just gotten my new W520 with Windows 7 64bit preinstalled, and was happily working away (I'm a banking applications developer) when out of the blue I would get a ThinkVantage message asking me to recover my current files to the C:\ drive. To my surprise and dismay, I noticed that this was occurring immediately after my HDD had "dropped" off MyComputer's list of available drives! I spent all day on the phone with Lenovo tech support to no avail. I did notice, however, that opening the ThinkVantage ToolBox (PC Doctor application) was a surefire way to cause the HDD to "drop" off immediately.
    SOLUTION:
    Uninstall ThinkVantage Toolbox!
The problem has now ceased, and I've also noticed that the fan in the W520 is not nearly as overactive as it had been while the ToolBox was running in the background.
Come on Lenovo, don't saddle us with additional bloat that actually impedes proper function of the **bleep** hardware!
And to PC Doctor, I suggest heeding the Hippocratic Oath: "FIRST, DO NO HARM"!!!!
    Danny

    Thanks for posting your fix...
I agree, ThinkVantage Toolbox has gotten pretty invasive as of late. It has also become less useful, although you can install custom add-on modules to make it better.  Anyway, it is possible to keep the program installed w/o having all the background tasks.  This leaves the Blue ThinkVantage button active.
    Install TVT
Launch TVT, Settings, then untick "Enable Quick Hardware Check", Save
right click on task bar and uncheck TVT
    run taskmgr.exe
    Disable PCDEventLauncher, PCDoctorBackgroundMonitorTask, and SystemToolsDailyTest
PCDEventLauncher will most likely be recreated if/when you next run TVT- but it is of little conequence.
Also, are you are using AHCI?  It is required for eSATA hot plug (+ some other features).  We have had systems that refuse to keep a eSATA drive connected when running in compatible mode.
