WRT54G v.6 loses wired/wireless connection after 2 hours

I have been trying for two weeks to get my router to maintain connection to both my wired and wireless computers.  It drops after 2 hours. It says it is connected but I can't get anywhere.   I have DSL with a static address.  I put the static IP on the router and have the router DHCPing to the others.  Have "live chatted" with Lynksys 4 different times with no luck.   Based on live-chat advice, I have updated the firmware to 1.01, and changed the MTU from 1500 to various other numbers with no positive results. Both computers drop at the same time.  If I take the router out of the loop and plug straight into the DSL modem, it stays up forever.  I run XP home on my wired computer and XP Pro on my wireless laptop.  I am at my wits end and would appreciate any help that you can offer.

It didn't like that either! I got to thinking about how it said that I was still connected but I couldn't get anywhere so  I called my ISP today and had them double check my connection.  The technician said that I was having abnormally high errors rates going out of my dsl (new, had it replaced recently) modem.  He had me reset the modem, then reset the router, update my DNS numbers.......same thing, about 2 hours later, DROP!  I have about decided that it is a problem between my dsl modem and router instead of my router and computers.  For one thing, I reset everything during my lunch break.  Back at work, right after lunch, I could ping my static IP on my router but, sure enough 2 hours later, I couldn't ping it despite my ISP saying I was connected. That leads me to believe my router doesn't like my modem or vice versa!  Any other suggestions?

  • Printer loses wireless connection after some hours

    Hello to all!
Printer is connected and I can see on the screen correct IP. Desktops with Win7 and Ubuntu are used. After switching on printer works properly, but several hours later its unreachable from both systems. Printer shows connection, I can see it in router web access tool, but it is unreachable. I have to switch off printer, reboot the router, then switch on printer - and it works. Not very comfort.
Does anybody know how to fix this bug?

Tips for preventing wireless connection issues
The following tips can help prevent wireless connection issues:
Move the printer and the computer or access point (router) closer together.
Remove any metal objects between the printer and the computer or access point (router). Objects such as refrigerators or metal bookcases can interfere with wireless transmission.
Move any device that emits radio signals farther away from the printer. Devices such as microwaves and cordless telephones can interfere with wireless transmission.
Consult the router manufacturer for updates and configuration of your router.
Make sure that your computer is not connected through a VPN. You cannot access your printer on your wireless network while connected to a VPN.

  • My iPad3 loses the 3g connection after closing the magnetic cover.

My iPad 3 loses the 3g connection after closing the magnetic cover.  When the cover is opened, the iPad shows the connection is active.  However, it does not connect but searches for emails etc.  I have to then reboot.

have you tried disabling then reabling the 3G setting on your iPad after waking the iPad?
It may be that as it goes to sleep the iPad loses the 3G connection, you may be in a low connection area, and then has problems finding it again, this can happen occassional with WiFi.
If you go into Settings, then Mobile Data and toggle  the On/Off switch Off, then On again, see if that brings it back without restarting the iPad.

  • WRT54GL - just today it won't keep wired/wireless connections HELP Please

This router is less that a year old and just today it won't keep wired/wireless connections unless I reset the router and sometimes within 5 mins of a reset, it's out again.  I can go into the Admin/Status page of the router and DCHP release/renew the IP from Cox and that works the same as a reset of the modem.
Can anyone give me an idea what this could be?  Cox looked at the Motorola modem and saw that it was connected for 3 hrs (3 hrs prior I rebooted the modem thinking that was my issue) and they didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
I have the latest firmware installed.

Are you using any peer-to-peer (P2P) software?  If so, this is a known cause for router slow downs and disconnections.  Go into the P2P software, and reduce the number of connections that the software can make.

  • WRT54GS v7 loses wireless connectivity after 15 minutes or so

I just installed a WRT54GS v7 router to work with my cable modem. It has the latest firmware. The wireless connection seems to work for about 15 minutes or so at a time and then it stops working. I can't even get to 192.168.1.1. The only way to get it to work is unplug the router and plug it back in. Originally, I thought it was interference from my 2.8GHz cordless phone, so I unpluged it. But that still didn't fix the problem. What could be the problem? Thanks.

  • WRT54G No longer available as Wireless Connection, Cat5 connect without issue

Without changing a single setting I can only appear to go wireless on the neighbors unsecured network OR plug in the old Cat5 leash.  My network no longer appears as an option when attempting to connect wireless.  It's consistent across two laptops.  Any ideas?

This appears to be similiar to my problem.  The router worked fine via wired connections but the wireless connections failed.  The real problem was that the router was not issuing IP addresses to any clients connected via wireless.
The clients recognized the router and connected utilizing WEP 128 bit encryption.  However, the DHCP in the router never issued an IP address thus no connection to the internet.
As it turned out it appears to be related to the latest firmware update issued by Linksys.  In my case 201.13 for the WRT54G3G-ST sold by Sprint.  I ended up at one point with 2 routers from Spring and both of them had the same problem after upgrading the router firmaware.
To get around the problem I had to perform a hard reset and restore the router to factory defaults.  I can change the router name without issue as long as the name is 8 characters or less.  I was utilizing the name of spiderweb and that causes the problem.  The client PC's would see spiderweb and connect but never got an IP address.  Also activating WEP in either 64 or 128 bit encryption causes the same problem so I am currently running the system in "open" mode.
Hopefully the next firmware update release will have these issues addressed.

  • Problems with Wireless connection AFTER 10.4.2 update

I have read several topics on wireless problems AFTER the 10.4.2 update and wondering if anyone (or Apple) has found a fix to this problem. I cant get to my network or the internet via airport. I have tried zapping the pram, resetting the permissions, rebooting, checking for more update on a wired connection, reinstalling both 10.4.2 combo and 4.2 update and still nothing. This happened RIGHT after the reboot upon completion of the update. Im stuck and wondering if anyone has a solution or has any one SUCCESSFULLY contacted Apple and have they got a solution to fix the problem??

I'm having the same problems with accessing my airport base station (first generation snow at 4.0.9) after loading the airport admin 4.2 patch. I loaded the 4.2 patch on my g5 and G4 running 10.3.9. The response/across of the wifi connection is very poor. I can't use chicken of the VNC to manage the G4 from the G5 anymore at all due to the slow response and accessing the internet via either the G4 or the G5 is like a dial up connection. The broadband speed test results are 192mb to 274mb up and similar down.
I have a 12"powerbook (DVI 1gig version) with 10.3.9 that I have not loaded the 4.2 patch on and I am not having any issues with wifi access to the base station or the internet. broadband logs in right at 2.8mb via DSL. I also have a Dell laptop that I access the internet through the airport base station and I have no issues with speed and the same 2.8mb broadband speed test results.
Conclusion something in the airport 4.2 patch has changed the airport cards ability to see the base station.
With all that said, my question is - How do I back out of the 4.2 airport admin patch provided by apple or how do I resolve the slow response times between the airport cards in the G4 and G5 and the base station?
    Any help?

  • WRT300N V1.1 - Firmw v1.51.2 - Problems to get wireless connection after long idle time

    Hello,
    I have a WRT300N, v1.1 with latest firmware available (v1.51.2).
I've been experiencing a strange problem:
    1. After long idle time (router is on, no devices are using it wirelessly), no device can get a wireless connection;
    2. I have tried using different OSes (Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, and Symbian OS);
    3. Wireline connection to a FE port works (if I plug a device using the cable, I can get an IP address and navigate to the internet).
    4. If power reset it (WRT300N), I can get wireless connections working again.
    Is this a known issue?
    Thanks, Gustavo

Well as you are able to go online from your Hardwired Computer, then i think you need to make some changes on the Wireless Part of your Router. Follow this settings on your Router, i think this might solve the problem.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 50 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • MBP takes long time to restore wired network connection after wake-up

    Hello...
My Mid-2010 MBP (MacBookPro6,2) has been experiencing this problem recently -- Whenever I wake up the computer from sleep, it needs approximately 10 seconds to restore its wired network connection. I know there are other annoying connection issues with MBP's WiFi/AirPort out there, but I'm talking about the wired connection here.
Maybe some don't even think this slowness is a problem at all, but this laptop used to be network-ready right after wake-up until 3~4 months ago. That was around the time when I upgraded to SSD and changed some settings via pmset, not sure if that's the culprit. It is now running OS X 10.8.5 and its pmset settings are:

Maybe try this, i am not sure that it will resolve the problem, but it is worth trying anyways.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/eef49e64-157c-4082-8e80-52e48309691f
    Hi All,
I've seen this problem multiple times, especially with Windows 7 64-bit versions and Enterprise edition.  The source of the problem appears to be the Bonjour service that is installed in the background and set to "Automatic" when installing certain 3rd
party applications.  Apple applications like iTunes and Adobe applications like Acrobat Professional and Creative Suites have been known to cause this problem.  I've also seen virtualization software like VMWare and VirtualBox cause similar issues
    with network adapters.
The solution in most of the cases I've come across has been to stop and disable the Bonjour service.  The Bonjour service also masquerades as a service with a name of the format "##Id_String1.6844F930_blahblahblah".  Here's how to disable this service
    in Windows 7:
Right-Click on Computer > Select 'Manage'
Expand the 'Services and Applications' section in the bottom of the Left-Nav dialog and Select 'Services'
Sort the Services list by name and look for either "Bonjour" or the "##Id_String..." name mentioned above
Right-Click on the service and select 'Properties'
Click the 'Stop' button to stop the service
Select 'Disabled' from the 'Startup type' drop down list
    Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'
Reboot your machine and see if the "Multiple Networks" issue is resolved.  If so, you should have internet connectivity again.
    Hope this helps.
    cheers,
    Aaron

  • Wireless Connection after 10.4.8 Update

I want to try and update again to 10.4.8. Has the wireless connection issue been resolved yet? The problem I was having before was when my mac went into sleep mode or I would reboot the wireless connection would be dropped. I tried just about everything I found on this board, but nothing worked. I had to archive and restore my mac back to 10.4.4. Is it safe to update, if not is there a fix for after I update?
    Any help would be great!.

If I had an IntelMac I'd wait, or certainly not go past 10.4.7, and at that I'd surely use the bigger Combo Updates, not any of the Deltas.
Yet if I did try 10.4.8... it'd be installed on a seperate FW drive for testing... without messing with the working install.
All that being said... I still am at 10.3.9 or less on all my important work machines... only have Tiger on 2 machines to help sort out/test all the 10.4 problems!

  • No wireless connection after pacman -Syu

    Hi,
I'm almost new in this forum. Recently I did a system upgrade (or update?). After that the wireless connection didn't work again. I used the search function but I didn't find a solution so I reinstalled networkmanager and the wireless card driver (from AUR). Then I did everything mentioned in these wikis:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_BCM4312
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager
    But no success
The output to lspci | grep BCM43 is:
    04:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
    The output of iwconfig is:
    lo        no wireless extensions.
    eth0      no wireless extensions.
These are the relevant lines of rc.conf:
    MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
    #MOD_BLACKLIST=() #deprecated
    MODULES=(lib80211_crypt_tkip !b43 wl fuse snd-hda-intel)
    #eth1="dhcp"
    eth0="dhcp"
    #INTERFACES=(eth0 eth1)
    INTERFACES=(!eth0)
    #gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
    #ROUTES=(!gateway)
    # DAEMONS
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng hal !network networkmanager !netfs !wicd crond fam gdm)
I really appreciate any help, thank you very much in advance,
    Luis Pablo

I'm making some progress. I realized I forgot to blacklist ssb and ndiswrapper. I compiled the driver from the Broadcom website. This is the new modules array in rc.conf:
    MODULES=(lib80211_crypt_tkip wl !ndiswrapper !b43 !ssb fuse snd-hda-intel)
    Now "sudo iwconfig" output is
    lo        no wireless extensions.
    eth0      IEEE 802.11bg  ESSID:""  Nickname:""
              Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.412 GHz  Access Point: Not-Associated
              Bit Rate:54 Mb/s   Tx-Power:off
              Retry min limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
              Power Managementmode:All packets received
Link Quality=5/5  Signal level=0 dBm  Noise level=0 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
              Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0
    eth1      no wireless extensions.
I'm still not able to scan wireless networks.
    sudo iwlist scan
    lo        Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0      Failed to read scan data : Invalid argument
    eth1      Interface doesn't support scanning.
Neither WICD or NetworkManager are able to detect wireless networks.
    Thank you in advance,
    Luis Pablo

  • Printer keeps dropping wireless connection after working for a while

My computer stops being able to communicate with the printer wirelessly even thought the printer says it is connected to the network and both the printer and computer are on the same network. What happens is I connect the printer to the network and print something from my computer. Then, after a short while, half an hour maybe, when the printer shows it is connected to the network, I try to print but my computer can't find the printer. The message say the printer cannot be found. If I go to the printer, and reconnect with the wireless connection wizard I can print. But after a short time, I won't be able to print again and have to do the wireless connection wizard again. Wireless direct is off. Don't know if that matters.

These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and makes your router secure and hack proof.
Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual). This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers. Verify your DHCP range and change this first if needed. More Wireless Printing help is here (Windows solution 4, static IP).
Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off/Sleep' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click Settings Tab/Auto Off. Or use the Printer Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS). Also check your Printers Properties.
If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, turn off IPv6 in the printer.
If needed and you assigned a static IP address, try using 8.8.8.8 for the Preferred DNS server and 8.8.4.4 at the Alternate DNS server.
In the router: (Refer to your router manual for information)
Use a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security. Nobody can hack your system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same, they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    SSID broadcast must be enabled.
Save all settings. Power off both, wait 2 mins.  Power on router wait 2 mins.
Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.
Windows 7/8/8.1   Is Network Discovery on or off?
Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network and Sharing Center/Advanced sharing settings.
Under Home or Work (current profile) / Network Discovery.
Select "Turn on network discovery" and save changes.

  • [Solved] No wireless connection after reboot.

I installed through a wireless connection. I installed inside of VirtualBox, and I installed wireless_tools, wpa_supplicant, and wpa_actiond dialog. So I had wireless internet on the live cd, but not after the install. Is there some driver that I am missing? Is there some VirtualBox special feature I am missing?
lspci | grep -i net   =   intel corporation 82540em gigabit ethernet controller
I don't think I need to install any additional firmware for this driver.
iwconfig = enp0s3 no wireless extensions
                    lo no wireless extensions
I tried adding manually loading iwl3945 and iwl4965, one of which I think is my driver.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
The fix was typing "systemctl enable dhcpcd".
