WRT54G v3 Router allows 3 wireless pcs to work, but the 4th one doesn't

Have had the Router for a good 4 years now and for the most part, no problems. However a desktop that is able to connect with the router fine, is unable to get Internet access while 3 other pcs in the domain are accessing the internet flawlessly (I'm using one to write this)
From the desktop I tried a ping www.cnn.com and it resolves the address but then times out when trying to ping.
I did an IPCONFIG command and it shows the default gateway of 192.168.1.1, IPv4 is 192.168.101 (other pcs have 102, etc)
subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Tried Ipconfig /renew and /or release but no dice.
Tried power cycling modem and router (in that order) multiple times but no internet access. I connected to the router and enabled logging and then tried from that specific PC and there are IP addresses being logged. PC is running Windows 7 home edition and used to connect fine.
Tried hardwiring to the router and that didn't work either.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Try to ping 4.2.2.2 .
If you get replies from the same number then try to ping yahoo.com and see if you get replies.
If you get replies from 4.2.2.2 and not from yahoo.com then try to assign a static DNS address.
Open network connections. Right click on wireless network connection and go to properties. Select internet protocol V4 TCP/IP and click on properties.
Select the option ' Use the following DNS server addresses'. In the preferred DNS server type 192.168.1.1 and in the Alternate DNS server type 4.2.2.2. Click OK.

  • Trying to set up a wireless guest network using Airport base station.  The first network setup was fine but the second one doesn't work.  Any suggestions?

I purchased the new Airport base station that allows for a wireless setup of a primary network and a guest network.  The primary network installation worked great but I cannot get the guest network to work properly.  Any suggestions on how to make it work?

The AirPort base station is designed to connect to a simple modem......not a modem/router or gateway device that is often furnished to users by Internet Service Providers.
So, the first troubleshooting question would be to find out what the make and model of the device that you call your "modem" might be.....to see if you have the right kind of product that will allow the Guest Network to operate correctly.

A wireless printer connects to the network just like your computer, or iPhone/iPad, etc. connects using wireless.
The printer must be set up intially to scan to "find" available wireless networks, then your specific wireless network needs to be selected. Then the password for the network needs to be entered.
Once the printer is configured to join the network, it is always connected to the network. No further configuration is required.

From the iPod's Main Menu choose Videos -> Settings and make sure TV Out is set to Off.
Otherwise, try a hard reset as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Does the Xbox 360 wireless adapter even work with the WRT54G wireless router?!!? If so, how???

I just bought a WRT54G wireless router (Ver 8.0; firmware updated to latest).  I have successfully connected my wireless laptop using WEP security, but I'm at wits end trying to get the Xbox 360 wireless adapter to work.  (It worked just fine with my Netgear router until that router recently died.)
When I do the "Test Media Connection" routine (you XBox 360 users know what I'm referring to), the Xbox immediately recognizes the Network Adapter and indicates that it is connected to the Wireless Network, but it inevitably fails the next step in the process:  IP Address.  I have the set-up for the IP address to be assigned automatically by the router (which is set for  DHCP Server enabled).
I have gone around the mountain innumerable times myself and then with well-meaning friends who say try this, try that, try this, try that.  I've had to re-establish my laptop set-up so many times I wanna scream!
Are the Xbox 360 wireless adapter and the WRT54G even compatible?  If so, what am I missing here?  I'm not too technical and obviously in over my head, but this ought not be that hard.
Please, please do NOT respond unless you KNOW the answer!  I don't mean to be curt, but I'm over / past "suggestions to try."
Thank you VERY much for your time and consideration if you can help me.

I don't think that the X-BOX adapter is not compatible to wireless rotuer .... there are few settings you can try on the router ... Access router setup page ... Please click on the tab "Application and gaming" and click on sub tab "Port range forwarding" 1) On the first line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box type in 88, in end box type in 88, in protocol keep it both, in ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box. 2) On the second line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box type in 3074, in end box type in 3074, in protocol keep it both, in ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box. 3) Now save the settings 4) Once you return to the setup page, click on the tab "Administration" and disable the UPNP and save the settings. 5) Now assign the given ip address on your xbox ip address :- 192.168.1.20 subnet mask :- 255.255.255.0 default gateway :- 192.168.1.1 Please assign the dns address on the xbox primary dns :- 4.2.2.2 secondary dns :- 192.168.1.1 6) Please try to test your xbox live. Hope it works ...

  • Using router and USB wireless on same machine but can't browse

    Hello, everybody.
I have a WRT54G connected to my desktop to enable a laptop to exchange files with me.
Also have a WUSB54G on the same machine to connect to a local hotspot.
Problem is I lose the ability to browse the net when the router is connected.
Does anyone know how to configure this setup so the web browser (IE6) will look for the internet through the USB adaptor instead of trying to go through the router?

Are you able to go online, when your computer is connected directly to the router?? also your laptop is able to go online?? If computer is running on Win XP…. you need to completely uninstall wireless adapter from computer click on start >> programs >> wireless G USB adapter >> uninstall, insert the CD for adapter and restart the computer, one window would pops up found new hardware, install only the drivers no need to install software or utility and use WZC to manage wireless connections…check whether it works or not.

  • [SOLVED] Wireless card works, but configuration and software doesn't

    Hi,
I could manage to activate my Atheros wireless card using the madwifi drivers. I wanted to use knetworkmanager, but unfortunatly i doesn't recognize any of my network devices. I've read the other networkmanager threads, changed the daemons order, disabled the network daemon and the routing entry in rc.conf, but still (k)networkmanager doesn't know anything about my devices.
I tried to use knetworkmanager-svn from the AUR. Initially it doesn't work because the SVN URLs inside the PKGBUILD script a wrong, but even after I fixed them I couldn't compile the source, because there is no configure and no Makefile in the svn head. I'm really a noob when it comes to the linux build system, so I had to give it up.
Now I use wifi-radar. It is terribly slow to connect, but it works. However, when I disconnect with wifi-radar, then do 'ifconfig ath0 down && ifconfig eth0 up' the DNS requests fail. I checked /etc/resolv.conf and the default route (set to eth0), but they are right; the interface just doesn't use the name servers. The only way to get it working is to restart the laptop. How does Linux chose a "default interface"?
I'm not afraid of editing text files, but I'd like change networks fast and easy. I don't want to spend hours to adapt to a new access point... I'm really looking forward to the new wlan stack; maybe things will be getting easier then.

Okay, now KNetworkManager works (I forgot adding my user to the HAL group :] ).
There is still a problem - I know it's networkmanager related: At home I'm not using a DHCP server. KNetworkManager cannot handle static IP configuration. However, if I issue the command 'ifconfig ath0 192.168.0.12 subnet 255.255.255.0' while KNetworkManager is searching for a DHCP server I can even ping my gateway, so there is definitely a connection. Unfortunatly KNetworkManager closes this connections after a short period (dhcp timeout). Is there a quick'n'dirty workaround for this issue?
Another problem with KNetworkManager: When switching back to wired network, the DNS server is there :-) but the default gateway is not
    Thanks for suggestions..
    kei
//EDIT: In Debian there is a configuration file called /etc/network/interfaces. KNetworkManager uses the static IP information I enter there. However, when I modify /etc/rc.conf accordingly in ArchLinux, KNetworkManager does NOT use it.
//EDIT 2: After '/etc/rc.d/networkmanager restart' the static IP setting from /etc/rc.conf are used. The problem with the default gateway only occurs when the connection to one of the networks FAILS. After that failure the configuration is kind of messed up.
Altough it seems more like a dirty hack than a definite solution, I'm quite happy with the way it works now.
[CLOSED] <-- maybe I'm blind, but how can I change the topic to "[SOLVED] $Topic" ?

  • Wireless isn't working, but it says there is signal

My wireless internet stopped working two days ago. The broad band works fine, but the wireless router isn't working. All the lights are on that should be, and the laptops say there is exellent signal. However, it won't connect to the internet. The model is a WRT54GX2. If someone could help me, that would be greatly appreciated.

Did you connect directly to the router?
Delete the wireless network profile in windows. Then try it again.

The wireless printing has been working fine for months and it STILL works from a different laptop. I am able to print from the G72 with a USB cord but when I try wireless I get an error message saying printer not connected. I've tried walking through the troubleshooting tips but nothing seems to work. Can anyone provide some help? Thanks!

Wireless connection worked before. Now it shows the wireless connection is strong, but when I open a browser (explorer or firefox) it gives me the error that server can't be located. When I do a test of an application to run on a browser (where the connection shouldn't matter) I still get error message. When running Os X, the connection/browsers are fine. Have Service pack 2.

I want to allow a plug-in to be installed but the yellow information bar which would allow me to do this is missing. Both "plugin.hide_infobar" configs are set to false. I disabled the pop-up blocker as well. How do I allow that plug-in to be installed manually?

    Which OS is installed?
I recommend that you uninstall the printer software from the HP folder in start-->All Programs -->HP --> uninstall software
After the uninstall is completed and your system restarted install and configure the printer again.
