WRT54G V3 WiFi stopped working last night

I've done a firmware upgrade to latest version v4.21.5 yet my Wifi still isn't broadcasting for my devices to find and connect as of last night (Aug 5, 2012).  This hasn't happened before, so I was hoping it would return but still hasn't started working yet.
My iphone just says "unable to connect."  Has my router finally called it quits?  It is from 2001
Wireless security is WPA2 Personal, TKIP + AES; Mixed mode, Channel 6, SES Inactive, SSID Broadcast Enabled.  If those settings help?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Try these trouble shooting steps:
1. Press and hold the reset button on the back of linksys for 30 full seconds. Wait 5 minutes. Unplug the linksys from the electrical outlet for 30 seconds. Plug back in. Reconnect you router to modem and reconfigure except this time, do not enable any security.
2. Try to connect with your iPhone. If it connects, enable you security.
If that doesn't work, then reset the network settings on your iPhone if that is the only device giving you problems. And try again.
If you have ever loaded third party firmware on you linksys such as ddwrt or tomato, you'll need to do a 30/30/30 reset on the linksys. You can search this board for procedure by typing 30/30/30.
But yeah, it could be shot.

  • IPhone 5 wifi stopped working last night

It's worked fine over the last couple of months but last night I went to download a song and couldn't get onto my wifi. I've tried to connect to multiple different networks, some with security and some without but it hasn't worked for any of them. I've turned the phone on and off, restored it to factory setting etc but nothing has worked. Occasionally when I try to connect it gives me a message about the wifi "not giving an internet connection." Is this a hardware issue and should I take it in to an apple store? (Software is all up to date also).

Once you have followed all troubleshooting steps such as backing up and restoring as new http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 then it looks like there is a hardware issue with the Wifi antenna and the device needs to be serviced. If you are in your one year limited hardware warranty then the service will not cost you anything so long as you do not have any hardware/liquid damage to the phone. If you are out of warranty please expect to pay $199 out of warranty fee to get the device repaired/replaced.
    Best regards!
NOTE: If you do a mail in service for the phone depending on what you set up then there might be a hold on a Credit Card to send a replacement iPhone to you.

  • Face book has stopped working on my I pad.  I got to it through Safari as i do on my mac. It works on my mac but stopped working last night on my i-pad

face book has stopped working on my I pad.  I got to it through Safari as i do on my mac. It works on my mac but stopped working last night on my i-pad

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
If you stillc an't access Facebook via Safari then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
There are a number of Facebook apps (including an 'official' one), which might be better than accessing it via Safari

  • My computer pretty much stopped working last night...

Hi! So, last night first my safari stopped working. But iChat was still working. Then I decided to restart my computer. After that nothing would work, and my computer froze when trying to load something.
I finally got it to turn off, and I tried to turn it back on. It makes the noise and I see the light gray screen with the apple and it goes to the blue screen and says "Mac Os X" where normally it would load. It doesn't load anymore.
The only connections to this happening that I can think of is I was doing a few updates the other day and one didn't finish properly, and I remember my widgits not working anymore. I'm not very mac savy (obviously) so I didn't know what to do about it. I should have known there was a problem then.
I really hope I just didn't lose everything that I have done in the last year!!!

    Welcome to Apple discussions, danegolf11.
Many of the symptoms you described sound like the ones associated with a failing hard drive. If it is only a software problem then you should not be hearing any unusual noises. Can you clarify what kind of noise you have heard - or are you referring to normal the 'startup chime'?
However, before concluding that it may be a hard drive failure, would I be right in assuming that you do not have a backup of your data? If that is the case then the first thing I would try to do is safeguard any valuable data by attempting a backup using FireWire Target Disk Mode - but you will need access to another FW-equipped Mac.
Once you have, hopefully, backed up your data try restarting the PowerBook with the original installer disc (insert disc, restart and then keep the 'C' pressed) and run Disk Utility to check for any problems.

  • IChat stopped working last night on iPads and Mac

Last night, while using iChat (beta) on my MBP to a friend's iPad, it studdenly stopped sending.  She called me to tell me that she suddenly couldn't send from her iPad, so I tried from mine.  She can't use iChat on her iPad, I can't on mine, I can't send to iPads or iPhones through iChat on my MBP, but I can use it and chat fine to a PC with a google account.  It stopped working, then briefly, it worked, then it stopped again, and hasn't worked for any of us since.  iPhone to iPhone works fine.  I've gone all through the forums here and haven't seen any buzz about something being down.   Any clues?

    HI,
    iPhoto  - Photo Stream.
I had a dial up email account that has been my Apple ID for a long time.
Last year I used this to create an iCloud ID for my iPhone as it went to iOS 5
This gives me two "names" to access the account if I use iTunes or the App Store.
They work as individual Names for iMessages and FaceTime.
I am the person in our house that inherits the old  phones at update time
I gained a second iPhone 3GS and I did have the two names split between the two phones.
With iOS 6 I did get the offer to include the Apple ID (iCloud version) to be added to Messages on the Mac (along with the second iPhone Number) I thought I had declined but it does actually appear in the Messages Accounts for the iMessages account although Unticked.
This led me to check which iPhone was using which part of the Apple ID's "Names" and I found one phone was not syncing iPhoto's Photo Stream.
I had thought it was because I had messed up the name somewhere.
I have checked whilst writing this and have had to time Machine some folders back that went missing in iPhoto (only my Daughter's wedding !!!).
Seems it is something I did on my Mac ??
I thought I was on to something that was going to be more helpful.

  • Network magic connection stopped working last night

    Really need help with this.
My network magic suddenly yesterday stopped working in that it cannot contact the network magic website. This leads it to conclude that the internet is down, even though the connection is fine.  This happened on all three of my computers. My browsers (mozilla and explorer) cannot seem to connect to the network magic website either. A product re-install on one of the computers went fine, but the problem still persists, despite a re-boot. Examined the hosts file manually and there are no entries that might cause a problem. The computers use different service provides and a different router. All three are vista ultimate 64 bit with service pack 2 (recently installed), have spyware doctor, spybot, and live care for security tools (as well as network magic).  The live care firewall has the correct permissions for network magic. The network magic platform service is running properly.
Of course I cannot contact the network magic support team as I cannot access the website - this does not appear to be a known problem (did a search).
    Peter

    Peter,
Not only the Network Magic connection stopped, but if you try to connect with your Net2Go remote access website it's not there anymore.  Not even if you try to connect with your computer that's hosting it.
As I understand it, when Cisco aquired Pure Networks they issued their last upgrade, and with it came the announcement that the latest version would no longer have the Net2Go feature.  Indeed, they could choose to END Net2Go at their discretion.  It would seem that this is the case.  A shame, really.  My clients have come to depend on being able to retrieve their material and email links to their clients as well.  All Cisco had to do was provide a redirect, how much server power can that take up anyway?  It was almost like having a web site, and it cost nothing.  Sure was nice.
According to the End-Of-Life protocols as laid out by Cisco, they're supposed to give warning when there's a system they would no longer support, and they are supposed to get with you to help you ease into the replacement technology and give you several months to do so.  Slamming the door wasn't supposed to be part of it.
So now we have to either go without because nobody offers anything remotely like it (I checked), or we can all get domain names and pay for web sites and hosting.  Thanks a lot, Cisco.

  • My home sharing stopped working last night after finishing a movie.

I had just finished watching a movie and had planned to watch a second one when my power began flickering. My apple TV then couldn't connect to the iTunes store so I restarted my apple TV and the only things that came us were computer and settings. I thought to myself that my cable/internet must be out. But that's OK because I've downloaded all my purchases from iTunes onto my computer and I'd simply stream the content from my computer. It didn't work. I was unable to watch any content through my apple TV. Yet, I could watch content on my iPod and my computer, but I didn't want to sit in my cramped study. Is there a setting I need to change so that apple TV can stream from my computer?

Addendum: I've tried restarting my PC, my iPhone. I've tried switching Home Sharing on and off.
In the playlists, songs, artists, etc. it simply says "No Music".

The power went out for a few seconds, when I went to watch videos on youtube, I was not able to. What do I need to do to restore this option. It seems to affect only youtube videos.

My ipod is cracked and it chipped away a little more last night and that's when my wifi stopped working. My wifi works on every other device in my house except for my ipod. Is there something wrong with my ipod?

Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
Try right next to the router
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Could it be this?
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

Besweet, I'm having the very same problem with 60GB colour which was bought new and worked for 6 months before suddenly just not being recognised by PC. I hadn't changed anything at all.
I've followed all troubleshooting advice and reinstalled and updated iTunes and iPod updater software but all troubleshooting routes seem to hit the dead end of either the need to access the iPod via the PC (which isn't possible as it's not showing up at all) or the iPod in disc mode stuck at "ok to disconnect".
It's still under 1yr warranty so will have to take to a dealer.
I'm sorry that's not much help for you but at least you know it's not a unique problem.

Thanks for the quick response. What you have said makes sense but there is no rhyme or reason to he data used. I reset my cellular data counter to zero so both sent and received read zero. I was connected to wifi and let the phone to go into sleep mode. I waited about ten minutes and sent myself the same email four times, each with a 750 kb attachment. It was sent to my .me address so it was push mail on my phone. Sure enough I checked a minute later while bringing the phone out of sleep mode and checked the data. It showed just 10kb sent but 1mb received which just doesn't tally with the 4 x 750kb mails received. It just isn't making sense.
He knows what you asked and has already answered it!
I thought I had read where the iOS4 (or maybe just the iPhone 4) was supposed to be able to keep wifi connections alive while inactive. If the phone is sitting there on a charger with a wifi connection available, why use the 3G?

I searched to fix this problem and found many suggestion but no luck.
Could you please help me to fix this problem.

    Hi Gunjan,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you've already tried a few troubleshooting steps, but these links may offer some additional tips:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398
If you are using a public or commercial network that requires a login or subscription, see this article for more information.
Verify that you are selecting the correct network if you are in a location with multiple Wi-Fi networks.
Verify that the Wi-Fi network settings are correct. You can view and configure Wi-Fi settings using the following steps:
    Tap Settings > Wi-Fi.
Locate the Wi-Fi network you are currently using and tap .
If you've verified that your settings are correct and the issue persists, try the following:
Tap "Forget this Network" to reset settings for this Wi-Fi network, including the password. Then try connecting to the network again.
Note: This can be useful if you identify a network issue and want to prevent the device from automatically using this network in the future.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings, including passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Note: If the Wi-Fi network uses MAC address filtering, you will need to add the MAC address to the access list for the Wi-Fi router. The MAC address for your device is listed as the Wi-Fi address in Settings > General > About.
If this issue persists with multiple wireless networks, see our general iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant for more steps you can try:
