WRT54G V5 bitorrent problem

i have use utorrent and bitcomet and ares... when using them cant enter any web page, also cant enter the router setup.. the problems fix for a while after rebooting the router..then it happens again..
i have read some firmware that fix this...one por the v7 but it says only por europe and other countrys... im from mexico...i have the last firmware for v5 1.00.6 for spanish version..
i think for USA there is a more recent version can i use it in my router which is in spanish..?? Does it fix this problem
Please someone answer soon im getting impacient with this.. Thanks.

When BitTorrent runs, it seems to use a lot of the router's memory space, leading to slow downs and crashes.
The most common recommendation that I see for this problem is to go into BitTorrent and reduce the number of connections that it can make.

  • WRT54G v6, Weird Problem

My new WRT54G router was working fine for a couple weeks, both wired and wireless performance, on one desktop(wired) and two laptops(wireless). Recently I've been having a strange problem with the wireless; it connects with an excellent signal, and I can logon to messenger services or online games, but I cannot browse the internet with Firefox or IE.
I've tried many solutions, including uninstalling and installing the router again, installing my Verizon DSL service again (connection type PPPoE), trying static/dynamic IPs, WinSockFix, uninstalling and installing my wireless adaptor(Atheros AR5005G), trying a different adaptor(Belkin Wireless G Card), turning on and off my Windows Firewall, using the SES service, releasing and renewing the IP. I'm begining to lose hope, and its driving me crazy because it doesn't make sense; why would only internet browsers not work? Most likely there's a small thing I'm overlooking, but if I can't get around it I'm going to have to find a new router. ANY help is apreciated.
    Thanks, Chad

Thanks for all the help Jern; I went into FireFox and set the connection type to a free proxy server, it's working fine now. I wonder why it worked to begin with though, and decided all of a sudden that it needed one? Oh well, I may never know, Thanks again.

  • WRT54GS v.6 Problem (Final Thread)

I am getting tired of this thing, and I'm sure you guys are getting tired of me posting a million threads about my blasted Router.
So, I have updated my WRT54GS v.6 with the most recent firmware, and I use a PPoPE connection... but it still keeps randomly disconnecting from my computer...
Anyways, this is my final thread I'm going to make.  If you guys can't help, then the only thing I could do is get a new router...

Are you trying to connect to your router by wire or wirelessly?
For now, please use all wired connections.  If your computer has a wireless adapter, please turn it off.  If you have more than one computer connected to your router, please disconnect all but one of them.
Your system should be wired as follows:
    Modem -- router -- computer
The ethernet port on the modem should be connected (by ethernet cable) to the Internet port of the router.
Connect router LAN port 1, by ethernet cable, to your computer.
If your modem has a USB port, do not connect it to anything.
    1) Please state your ISP.
    2) Please state the make and exact model number of your modem (not the WRT54GS).
    3) Please use the following procedure to reset your router to factory defaults, and report your results:
You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is likely dead.  Please report back with this problem.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead, the firmware is corrupt, or the computer is having problems talking to the router.  Report back with this problem.
If you need additional help, please report back the results of steps 9 and 10.  Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • WRT54G v6 Odd Problem

Hiya. I lurked these forums a bit and looked around but I did not really find my problem listed here. I will describe it as best as I could.
I was playing a game online when all of a sudden my Internet connection dropped. I looked at my modem, thinking perhaps my cable connection dropped (it WAS at about 4:00 (4:00 AM), and the cable company sometimes disconnects the service for a bit for maintenance or whatever. Hell if I know.
Anyways, my Internet connection was all lit up so I looked over to my router and the wired port #1 light was blinking. Not normal "activity" blinking, but blinking on and off very slowly, about once per second.
I have two computers hooked up to my router and did a little testing... I plugged in computer #2 into all four ports and the lights were just fine. I plugged Computer #1 into all four ports and there was a problem. When computer #1 was in ports 3 and 4, it worked fine. But when it was in ports 1 or 2, the light blinked in the fashion I just described.
I tried reinstalling the router, reinstalling my network card, and upgrading the firmware. Nothing worked. (I called tech support but my P.O.S. cell phone dropped the call. >: )
Nothing worked. I mean, I could get both computers working fine by plugging it in another port, but Hell if I was going to let this problem stick around.
Now I am a computer repair technician. I did every conceivable option aside from reinstalling Windows (it was basically a fresh install, I doubt that was the problem) and nothing worked.
As I was browsing the forums over here I noticed that my model, the WRT54G, has a lot of problems. Bah. Anyway, after about an hour total of the lil' blinky problem, it just stopped on its own.
I was just wondering if anyone knew what this was and if it happened to anyone else. Thanks.

The only thing that I believe that you can do is reinstall the correct firmware in the language that you want. Below is an firmware upgrade link.

  • WRT54G Wireless Router Problem. Need Help!

I'll start with the basics of my situation and if more details are needed, I will provide to the best of my ability.
I have a comcast cable internet connection.  I have 6 computers in my house. Two of them are downstairs (which is where our modem is.) The other four computers are upstairs.  All of these computers are Desktop computers with the exception of one laptop.
My laptop (which is Windows XP) can pick up a random wireless signal from the room it is in.  I also found out a way to share the internet connection on the computer by going into the properties of my network connection and enabling internet sharing on it.  This means if I connect a network cable from my laptop to another computer, I can leech the connection from my laptop and have internet access on the other computer.  I also  had a switch that I used to connect the other 3 computers upstairs by means of the laptop.  The problem was, the laptop was using someone else's wireless connection in the area, and it wasn't strong enough to keep up a constant connection.
I decided, if I can leech someone else's wireless connection, why not have my own.  So i recently bought WRT54G Wireless Router and set it up on one of the computers downstairs (because that's where the modem is).  It works fine as far as connecting my laptop to the internet from upstairs.  My laptop can access the internet through the connection I set up in the LELA program.
Here is the part I am confused about.  Everything is plugged in correctly as far as the router is concerned because the laptop can access the internet.  But when I connect an ethernet cable directly to one of my other computers (which are Windows Vista, but I didn' t have a problem with it previously when I was leeching someone else's connection), the connection drops on my laptop, and the other computer still can't access the internet.  A notice pops up that says its trying to identify the network, but it gives an error that says there is something wrong with the DNS.  As soon as I disconnect the ethernet cable connecting my laptop to one of the other computers, the connection is fine again on the laptop.  It's only when I connect the computers together that the connection drops.
I just don't understand why it wouldn't work when I created my own network if it worked with another network with no problem.  My whole point in getting a wireless router was to have a router within good range to keep up a constant connection on my other computers that aren't in range of the modem downstairs.  I just don't know where else to look.  I'm not sure if it can be fixed on LELA, manually through my wireless settings, or if it could be a problem with one of my computers' settings.  I've tried many different things and I'm not sure what else to do so any help is most definately appreciated.  I feel like I've tried everything.  I know it's possible because I've one it before, I just need the help because I'm not much of a networking person and I don't know what I should start with to make this work.
Thank you to anyone who can help or even point me in the right direction.

Access router setup page ...Click on the Wireless tab on the Setup page- Here Wireless Network mode should be mixed- Provide any non-linksys name .... Set wireless channel to 11- And wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on "Save Settings" >>Now Click on the Sub tab under wireless > "Wireless Security" Change the Wireless security mode to WEP/WPA ...type in the key & click save settings .... >>>>Click on Advanced Wireless settings>>Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings" Check the connection once again & see if it works or not ...

  • WRT54G File sharing problems

Hi - hopefully this is a simple problem. I have a Windows XP computer, and a Windows 7 computer. They are in the same workgroup, and I have gone through all the troubleshooting through windows, but I can not get the computers to share files. I have no trouble connecting to the internet through either computer on my WRT54G router, which has the latest firmware. I tried to ping the Windows 7 computer from the XP computer, and it worked perfectly, but when I pinged the XP computer from the Windows 7 computer, it says that the communication has timed out. So there must be some firewall (I've tried to adjust this, and even turn it off - nothing) stopping the communication. Any help would be great. My goal is to be able to share files. Thanks!

Go into the computer software firewall on each computer, and set it to "trust" the other computers on your network.
If your firewall or PC security program keeps a list of trusted applications (also known as a "trusted zone"), then make sure that your router is in the trusted zone on your firewall...If that does not work then, try to disable all the firewall and antivirus on the computer and then check..!!!

  • WRT54GS v.6 Problem -- HELP!

    Hello,
I just bought a new WRT54GS v.6 router yesterday, and I just connected it today. I followed all the instructions etc.
When I try to use a browser to connect to the router config(192.168..etc) I get a horribly choppy and undone webpage.
Here's a link to an image of the port foward page I found by clicking "&"
    http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/9325/wtfol6.png
There is one page of my problem...its so messed up.
I've gone back to not using a router, since I can't foward my ports to get on games, etc.
    ...any suggestions?

Are you sure your firewall is really off?  If so, then proceed:
If the above post does not work, then reset your router to factory defaults,  and then set up the router from scratch.  If you saved a configuration file for the router, DO NOT use it.
If it still does not work, your firmware is probably corrupt.  Re-download and re-install the firmware.  If necessary, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to load the firmware into your router.  Then reset the router to factory defaults, and then set up the router from scratch.  If you saved a configuration file for the router, DO NOT use it.

  • WRT54GS Router torrent problem on 2 PCs

Hiya. I recently connected 2 PCs to a WRT54GS ver6 Linksys router. The PCs each use a WUSB54GS ver2.1 adapter to connect to it. Everything is fine, however I'm having a problem with torrents being limited on one PC. The first PC connects fine, everything runs smoothly and fast. However when I try to connect to the same torrent with the other PC, its greatly limited. Its never given full access, and whereas normally it would have 20+ seeders, I'm lucky to get 2. Download speed on the first PC is 100kbps, whereas the second is 5-20kbps. I've looked around the internet and been unable to find this specific problem. It seems as if 1 PC has been giving the OK by the router, but the other is being throttled back for some reason. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks

Running peer-to-peer software is a known cause for router slow downs and disconnections.  When a "torrent" is running, it will typically make over 100, and often over 200 connections.  The router must keep track of all these connections.  The router has a limited amount of memory to work with, so this leads to router slow downs and disconnections.
If possible, have only one computer running torrents at a time.  Additionally, you can go into the peer-to-peer software and reduce the number of connections that the software can make.   This effectively limits the impact that the torrent is having on the router, and this sometimes helps.
Alternatively, if one of your computers has this "slow" problem even when torrents is not running on the other computer, then perhaps you simply have a poor wireless connection.  This can happen even with a 100% signal strength.  There are many things that cause poor wireless connections:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, Bluetooth (including Bluetooth game controllers), microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.
    Hope this helps.

  • Vista - WRT54G Wireless Router Problem

I'm sure your all tired of answering this question or variations of, but here we go. I have a WRT54G V.6 wireless router running a hard wired pretty new Hp Pavallion With Vista Home premium. It's running an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+- 2.60 GHz w/ 1918 Megs of RAM. Problem 1.) is connection. For whatever reason it just seems to drop my internet for no reason. I then reboot the system to get back. This work MOST times. Problem 2.) is the speed. To open a web page seems to take in excesively long time, 30 -45 seconds on avg. per page. I HAD an old dell also connected to the system wirelessy that ran flawlessy, although it did run XP. And the speed was great. And now connect wirelessly with my work comp with no problems at all. Speed is great and connectivity is stable. SO why am I having such a problem with this router on this OS? I would love some help with this or a work around to get connectivity and speed workable.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

  • WRT54g router DHCP problems (I think)

I just got a wrt54g wireless router for my organization hooked it up and started having problems. I set the router to use DHCP and *tried* to set the “Maximum Number of DHCP Users:” to 15 and clicked “Save Settings” but when I went back to that screen it would be back at the default (5), I have since tried to change it many more times and no matter what number I pick (2-230) it still shows up as 5. Anyway. 1st I connected my XP notebook and was able to access the internet (specifying that my computer obtain the IP address automatically) Next I connected my colleague’s vista notebook and he could access the internet. (specifying that his computer obtain the IP address automatically) Next I connected another colleague’s xp desktop (specifying that my computer obtain the IP address automatically) *Next* I tried another colleague’s XP notebook computer and started having problems. I specified that it should obtain the IP address automatically but it would not and kept getting a 169.254.x.x address instead of one like 192.168.1.x (it also keeps showing a subnet mask different from the one I specified on the router). I went back to my notebook (which had been working fine) and discovered that now (without my making any changes to my notebook) I am having the same problem. I am now having the above problem (computers not receiving addresses automatically) with all but one or two computers (the vista notebook continues to work). Someone on usenet suggested I try putting in an IP address manually so I did and it worked but #1 I need more than 5 computers to be attached at one time (the router refuses to accept any number higher than 5 [though I can specify *less* than 5, it will for example remember 4 and 3]) #2 The router should be assigning IP addresses to all the computers, I shouldn’t have to be putting in the addresses manually.

Did you try to flash/reflash the routers firmware?  Try that and reset the factory default settings and cycle the power.  Then reconfigure the router and let us know if it continues to do that.

  • WRT54g v1.0 problem accesing it via cable connection

Hi i hope someone can help me.
I've got a WRT54g v1.0 and flashed the new firmware.
Via autoupdater and a cable connetion.
After reebooting and reseting i wasn't able to 192.168.1.1 via cable while using the wireless connection the access is possible.
I refashed via cable and the flash worked but still i cant access my
router via cable. Has any one an idear what might be the problem?

Hi...as far as i know there is no known linksys auto updater for wrt54g v1.....so which auto updater you have used?? and what is the current firmware on the router??
the current firmware on the linksys website is "4.30.5"...if you have this firmware..then try resetting the router for 30 seconds and do a power cycle....force the card speed of NIC card of the PC to 10 mbps half mode...disable the firewalls...and check whether you can access the router now....
and also make sure that the wireless network you are connecting to is the wireless signal of your own router....meaning that you aren't connecting to your neighbour's network...

  • WRT54G and Playstation problems

    Hello,
I have the WRT54G router v. 4 and I am connected to my playstation 2 through an ethernet cable.  I have my PS2 assigned a static IP address and have disabled UPnP (I read somewhere this solves many PS2 connectivity problems).
My wireless connection is nearly flawless and never goes out.  However, my wired connection to my PS2 goes out quite often.  I also receive "can not connect to ISP" messages sometimes when trying to connect online.
What is the problem and what can I do to establish a more reliable connection?
    Thanks.

  • WRT54G Firmware version problem

hello people i gotta problem and if you can please help me...
    I have a WRT54G wireless router v7.2.00 (defoult firmware)
in here last firmware is 8.2
    http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/WRT54G/download
i download this file, but can't install...
    then i find this...
    http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-eu/support/routers/WRT54G/download
in here last version is v7.2
    **bleep**?!
now can you tall me, can i  upgrade v7.2.01 to v8 or v8.2?

From what I’ve remembered, I don’t think there’s a v7.2 for WRT54G. I do know though that WRT54GS has v7.2. If I were you, check the FCC ID number because you will be able to determine the correct version there. Loading a firmware from a different version might damage the router so it is not advisable to proceed with that firmware.

My friend used a D-Link router and the LAN was fine. I upgraded the firmware of WRT54GS v6 to 1.50.9 throug linksys official website. What might be the problem?

I would say check the Link Speed or rate for your wireless card properties.  There should be several choices including Auto-Detect.  Somewhere to start...

  • Wrt54g strange signal problem

I have a new wrt54g and I have a strange signal problem. When I am in the house close to the router I only have a good signal (3 bars) but when I take the notebook outside or all the way in the back bedroom I have a excellent signal (5 bars). I am thinking that something in the house might be interfereing with the signal but I have tried changing the channel and still have only 3 bars when in the house, and 6 bars when I take the notebook outside or to the back bedroom. I am using wap but I tried disabling it and still only 3 bars when around the router.
Any thoughts, and thanks in advance.

I tried it all but still the same but I did find this, when I take then computer in the back of the house or outside the signal goes up to excellent and stays there even if i take it back in the front of the house where I previously only had a good signal. But the only way to get a excellent signal is to take it far off from the router but once it does get a excellent signal it will stay there even when I take back around the router, crazy I know.
    Any more advise or thoughts?
