WRT54G V5 wont connect to internet.

I am replacing a WRH54G with a WRT54G.  First I unplugged everything and waited 5 minutes. Then I plugged my ethernet cord from the DSL modem into the WRT54G. Then I plugged in the DSL modem. I waited for the lights to stop blinking. Then I plugged in the WRT54G and waited for LEDs to show connection. Then I plugged the ethernet cord from the WRT54G to the computer. Then I turned on the computer. I was able to access the Interface for the WRT54G but I was not able to connect to the internet. I tried power cycling multiple times both the DSL modem and the WRT54G. I was unable to access the internet. Finally I plugged the WRH54G back in and everything worked fine. Any ideas as to why the old WRH54G can connect to the internet and the WRT54G cannot?

Actually in the above statement it still didn't work but ten minutes ago I did figure it out in large part to the helpful post. Because I wasn't getting IP addresses on my new router I wondered if some how they were getting stuck on my old router. So here is what I did. I had my old router connected. I logged into the old router and under status I clicked WAN IP release. Then I unplugged the old router. Next I plugged in the internet cord from the modem to the internet port of my new router and connected first ethernet port of the router to the computer. Then I plugged the new modem in. When I logged in I saw the router had grabbed the needed IP addresses. My internet is now up and running and thanks to the QOS feature on my new router I can watch youtube videos and be on my VOIP google phone at the same time with out garbling! The key was knowing that the problem was that my new router wasn't grabbing the IP addresses. That gave me the idea that somehow they were stuck on my old router. When I released them the new router grabbed new ones. I know that's not technically how it works but it solved the problem. In bullet form here were the solution steps.
Verizon DSL DHCP
1. Log into old router.
2. Click on Status
3. Click on WAN IP Release
4. Unplug all cords from old router.
5. Plug internet cord from modem into internet port on new router.
6. Plug ethernet cable into port 1 on the modem.
7. Connect ethernet from port 1 on the modem into the computer
8. Plug in power cord to the new router.
After I did those things the internet was working fine along with all my other stuff hooked up to the router. I logged into the new router, looked under status and saw the valid IP addresses and such. Thanks for the help. Hopefully someone kind find this if they ever have the same problem. I do wonder though how the IP addresses got stuck so to speak on the old router or rather why I had to a WAN IP release on the old router before the new router could get a valid IP address.

im having some issues what can i do to fix it
this is what ive gone thought step by step
ok at about noon today all of a sudden my comp lost network connectivitiy
i thought well maybe something glitched and tried rebooting that didnt work.
    so hmm checked my ip
    0.0.0.0
    well that aint right
so i try switching cat5 cables
    no luck
try connecting with wirelessly with my brothers comp
well can get online but not connect to the router
so i go out and buy a new nic at walmart for 15 bucks
and try connecting to the router with it
    no luck
try hooking directly to the cable modem
well that works (yeah i know i should have tried that before buying a nic)
well now i try again connecting to the router
and still no luck so i hit the reset button on the back
first suddenly dhcp works again and can connect to the router but still not to the net
then i go check the status and it shows 0.0.0.0 for the routers IP from my isp
and i know thats not good
then i try unplugging the router for a little while
    and plugging it back in
and now a firmware update screen shows up when i try to connect to the router
so i go on the ftp and find the firmware only one i can find is 1.0.0.9
install it and still cant connect to the net by way of the router
ok so any advice on what to try next

after doing the MAC cloning and power cycling all the devices you should be able to go online now ... then try upgrading using the new firmware 1.01.0 for the version 6.... that should fix the problem!

Which version of Premiere Pro won't open? Do you see the splash screen? Which OS is installed on your computer? Have you tried to turn off your firewall? Sometimes that can cause this issue.

  • WRT54G v7 wont connect to modem / internet

Hi all i have a problem here with a new unit of Linksys WRT54G v7 in Indonesia. Previously i have some other linksys products such as wag200g wre54g and wrt54gv1 without problem at Singapore. ----- so here is the problem= i bought one new unit of WRT54Gv7 and connect it to the modem to achieve wireless connectivity. before i connect both of them i've set different IP for the router so that it does not clash with the modem IP. however, unlike the v1 of WRT54G i cannot access the internet. not even the modem IP. also, the wireless connection likes to disconnect itself despite having excellent signal strength. when i call the shop back about this. they changed my WRT54G with a new exact product. ----- so i went home and try. unfortunately no difference in performance, i still cannot access both internet and modem. i can access to modem rarely though. i call back the shop, they told me to disable dhcp server and reset the router. no offence. but i've done every single details they asked me to do. in the end nothing happen. ----- i do lot of research on the net and many told me that WRT54Gv7 is the worst version of WRT54G currently. im not sure whether this is true or not. but i'll appreciate it if someone would share some lights here... im confused, is both of the product defective, or my settings are wrong. in fact i've plug the router to 3 different modems without luck. ----- thanks for reading and sorry for the bad english.

hmm thanks for the reply. but i got a trick to deal with the router, that is=== i disable dhcp server and connect the broadband cable to the number 1 instead of internet port. the shopguy told me and ridiculously this method works, although i know this is not the way it suppose to be...

  • New Macbook Pro Wont Connect to Internet

I just got a Macbook Pro today and it wont connect to the my wireless connection. The only thing I can think of is when I was in the start up it ask what I connected to the internet with and because I was not within my own network I press "This computer does not connect to the internet" option. How do I change this?

I'm using a Linksys WRT54G and ran into these exact symptoms today. After downloading all available updates, dwiddling with a bunch of stuff I didn't really understand (but that's never stopped a hacker like me), getting frustrated in trying to figure out how to either make a reservation with a local Mac Store Genius or talk to a real person at Apple Support I tried unplugging my wireless router and resetting it. My computer came up and is now working fine... go figure.
I've got to admit that I was ready to panic after looking at the discussion board. I'm an old PC person and now consider myself a "convert" to Macs. Glad it didn't let me down.

  • WRT54GS won't connect to internet

I've turned WEP security on and off with no success. My computer can connect to Road Runner when the cable is not going through the WRT54GS. The connection is excellent on all my devices, just no internet. I'm thinking there's one tiny setting I'm not thinking of enabling but I'm out of ideas at the moment. If you need more info from me let me know. Thanks...

  • WRT54G Router cannot connect to internet

I have Earthlink DSL and am trying to connect to the internet via the WRT54G from my Dell desktop. (Can connect to internet directly through modem just fine.)Have ethernet cable connected to DSL modem and router internet port. Have other cable connected to ethernet desktop port and port1 on router. Setup CD fails on "checking internet connection."
    Per tblshooting docs:
    Have changed IP to 192.168.2.1
Have changed to PPPOE, with ISP [email protected] and password.
Powered off modem, router, PC. Restarted.
Try to connect to internet--Earthlink dial-up pop-up comes up because there's no DSL connection.
    Help.

On top of IE.... go to tools... internet options... then connections... then check the box that says never dial a connection.....
Go back to default 1st on the router. Start from scratch by pressing the reset button of the router for 20-30 seconds , then power down router for 10 seconds and power it back up.
The go back to the router interface (192.1681.1) and leave it as just Obtain IP Automatically or Automatic Configuration DHCP... then go to MAC Address Clone.. enable... clone... save settings... then go to the status page and tell us what is the Internet IP Address value that you see...

  • Wont connect to internet over VZW network

Ok so I just got my HTC Thunderbolt yesterday and it wont connect to the internet over the Verizon network. It works just fine when it is connected to wifi. I have tried turning the mobile network on and off and everything but it still wont.
BTW I can still call and text but everything that requires the internet does not work.

I live on the Fringe of 4G network.  My Brother in law had this problem, and hit battery life was subpar.
    This fixed it for him
    Factory Reset his phone
He used the dialer and put in *#*#INFO#*#*
Changed the CDMA+LTE to CDMA Only (PRL)
Then his did his setup as usual, and so far he hasn't had any problems since.  If you want to try that and see what happens by all means try it, but don't get mad at me if it doesn't work

  • HT4623 my i pad wont connect to internet

my first gen i pad has suddenly stopped connecting to internet. nothing has changed with service but did add extender . ipad is still in vincenity of orig wifi modem. has anyone experienced this

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Blackbook wont connect to internet zomg?!

Hihi everyone. Just a little background info on my macbooks, this is my third one. Having alot of trouble with customer service where I live, plus I made the terrible mistake of buying a mac from a "authorized dealer" instead of at the apple store, just a few miles away.
Either way I'm on my third macbook, a fancy shiny black one.
Been working well for a week or so but my It wont connect to the internet anymore?
Also to clear up some suggestions, I've reset my router.
I've also switched out cords, and even tried another cord where my parents Mac is hooked up to.
It was working fine for a week or so on the internet but one day it randomly wont connect. I'm gonna try the wireless at my school tomorrow to see if that works but any suggestions?
I mean I may be crazy here but I'm thinking something with the internet connector internally theres something misplaced?

Ethernet. It worked before, and I'm using the same cord as I use for my pc. But one day it just stopped connecting to the internet.

  • WRT300N wont connect to internet

hay guys i recently received a WRT300N v1. and for some reason it wont connect to the internet on my network. i know my network is fine if i use another router it works. but if i replace my working dlink router with this WRT300N router and connect all the computers to it (regardless weather its lan or wan)the computers don't receive a connection to the internet. anybody got any ideas why this is? by the way the router was reset to factory settings so there should be no settings that are conflicting.

1)connect the computer to the router's port # 1 and the modem to the router's internet port
2)access the router using http://192.168.1.1 . the default ip add is admin
3)on the ui , click on the "mac add clone" subtab , enable it and click clone
4)save the settings and do a power cycle
5)go to the "status" tab and check the internet ip add
6)if there is a valid one , try going online ...
