Wrt54g v7 no internet

hi , i just got a new router.. but i am unable to get online...it gets no ip... i checked everything..even clone mac but that didn`t help either..
Firmware: v7.00.1

Connect your PC to your modem and then go to Start>Run.
In the black box type in IPCONFIG /ALL
It should give you a list for IP ADDRESS, DEFAULT GATEWAY, DNS, SUBNET MASK
Then connect your PC to your router and your router to the modem.
Go to 192.168.1.1 and under Internet Connection switch Auto Configure with UDHP to Static IP.
Fill in IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, DNS 1(you can leave 2 and 3 blank) from the black box. Then under Local IP switch the Subnet Mask to what was from the black box.
Try updating your firmware to the latest whenever possible

  • WRT54GS v.7 - Internet browsing gradually slows down when assigned an IP address.

After assigning an IP address to a PC connected via wire to WRT54GS v.7, internet browsing gradually goes to a crawl and practically stop working. When the address is assigned by DHCP, there are no issues.
Is this a known issue with the router? Are there any pitfalls to avoid when assigning an IP address with WRT54GS v.7? Any pointers on this is greatly appreciated!

Browsing should not go down if you assign static/manual ip address on your router...If it is working fine with the DHCP assigned IP Address i would suggest you stay with the DHCP assigned address...

  • Can I use my WRT54GS as an internet & printer wireless router?

... or is the WRT54GS only for internet & I need to use a different product for wireless printing?
Thank you for any help you can give,
    Michele

Is your Printer is a Wireless Printer or its an Normal USP port Printer ?
If your printer is an Normal USB Port printer then you need to buy a Print Server ( WPS54G or WPSM54G). So once you configure your Print server you will be able to Print from all your computers Wired / Wirelessly.

  • WRT54G can ping internet, but connected devices cannot.

When I do a factory reset of our WRT54G router and configure it for our setup, everything works fine for a while (undetermined, random amount of time). We use it primarily for wireless access, and connect an iphone, ipad, mac, pc devices to it with no problem and can access the internet fine.
After some period of time, all devices can still connect to the WRT54G via wireless, but cannot access the internet either by browser or ping/tracert commands. Meanwhile, the WRT54G diagnostics can successfully perform pings and tracerts to both IP address and URLs (so DNS *is* working fine)
I connected a computer to the WRT54G via cat5 cable while the wireless devices could not access the internet, and the wired computer could *not* access the internet either. However, from the admin section of the WRT54G we could ping/tracert with no problems.
Any ideas what causes this to drop and what we can do (other than factory reset) to fix it, and perhaps to prevent it?
    ..Rick..

This isn't a home setup.  My wrt54G is connected to a DMZ switch which is connected to our gateway router and then out to the 100mpbs pipe.
All of our LAN is working fine, and as I mentioned in the original post, the WRT54G can always ping an external site (both via URL and IP address), as well as being able to do a traceroute.
When the connected devices can no longer get to the internet through the router, the router can still do the pings and traceroutes, so I conclude that there is no interruption in internet service. It stops at the WRT54G.  It always accepts wireless connections.

  • WRT54G Ver 6 Internet connectivity problems

    Alright so here's the deal.
I'm on Windows XP with Verizon DSL (in Orange County, CA) that uses a Westell modem (just modem, not modem and router combo).
I have the old Linksys BEFSR41 v.2 router that runs with everything fine.
I just bought the WRT54G Version 6 and connected everything up as needed.  Powered things down and then back up.  And it could not detect an Internet connection, but I could access the router via web browser.
    - Ran the Setup CD and it couldn't find the internet.
    - Upgraded the firmware.
    - I searched the forums and did not find a successful solution.
    - Called my ISP to confirm it is DHCP.
    - Talked to Linksys Support via phone and he had me do all sorts of stuff.  Releasing, Renewing, Local IP Address changes, pinging, MAC, etc.  All this to try to get some sort of IP address with the internet.
    - Tried it with a diff WRT54G Ver 6 (Yeah.  I bought two.  One for me, and one to bring to my parents), and it still didn't work.  (Can't be that both the routers I got are defective.)
    - Searched forums some more and ran across the EasyLink program.  I used it, and it tells me my freaking Wired adaptor is disabled.  Where do I enable it?  Can't be my computer because it all works fine with the old Linksys router I got....or could it?
    - Powered down and back up in many different combinations.
Did all that to no avail.  Anyone got a solution?  I couldn't find anything that worked.  I'm about to go return this and get something else tomorrow.  Maybe if I wake up, there will be a workable solution that is replied back.
Thanks in advance to all those that tried to help and posted something, or didn't post due to having no solution.
    - Chris

Yup Yup Yup.  I tried the WAN address thing and it still didn't work.
I was about to pack everything up and go return the stupid thing.  BUT.....I decided to talk to Verizon DSL support since I hadn't tried that.
    They helped me out good!!!
    Here's the solution.
I plugged in the old router, the BEF, and went to Status to click the DHCP Release.  Then unplugged the old router.
Then per Verizon DSL support instruction....powered down the modem, then powered it back up and waited for lights to stabilize.  Then I plugged in the new router, the WRT.  And went to Status (IP was already autofilled, with internet working) but I still clicked DHCP Renew.
    It all works.  WOOOOOO!!!!
By the way.  The WAN address thing is important.  I went to it on the new, WORKING router and disabled the WAN address.  The internet stopped working.  I re-entered in the WAN address I copied and the internet worked again.  So......yeah.
I hope for all those out there having the same problems as me, and without a solution, see this thread and try this.
Thanks again for your guys' help.
    **edit**
By the way.  Is there a way to stop my internet to being a stickler to this MAC address?  I'm just curious.  I'm gonna go google MAC address and see if I can read anything useful.

  • WRT54G Problems with internet, help, used to be fine on old router

    Hello,
I've bought this router yesterday and have 4 major problems with it ( I've had a cheap router before this and all these problems didn't occur when I use that old router again):
1: I can't access some sites like gamershell or nvidia.com, while they DO load up with a proxy.
2: I can't download from at least half the sites on the www, for example everything from microsoft.com times out.
3: This disconnects after like 5 mins after starting a p2p program. Why is this thing not able to keep my connection alive ?
4: A lot of sites load slower, my internet speed is same, but it somehow now takes ages for some sites to respond after ticking in their adress or clicking on a link.
I'm Cabled to the router, the router is plugged to an old ADSL isdn speedthouch home modem from Alcatel ( 5 years old the modem is), I'm connected with it with PPTP.
    Its a version 7 WRT54G router.
( my isp is planet NL, I'm on a 6mb down 1 mb up connection)
Help! Why does this disconnect with p2p, the cheap old router used to be fine 24/7 with p2p.
    Please help, thanks in advance.
(Edited post for guideline compliance. Thanks!)

Go to the Setup page and look for the setting called MTU....set it to 1300 and save the settings.... close the browser.... turn off your router by unplugging it from the power.... turn it on after 15 secs then try getting online again.........
Check if you can access the sites afterwards..

  • Firmware upgrade required: A huge WRT54G IS the internet!

On South Park last night ... it was revealed that a giant Linksys WRT54G router IS the internet! Apparently though, this router needs a firmware upgrade because it had some blinky light issues (it had to be power cycled to get the internet working again.)
I demand to know: what is Cisco doing to address problems in this critical piece of our national infrastructure?
    Cheers,

  • WRT54Gs newbie: no internet connection error message

    Greetings,
I picked up a used WRT54Gs v7 and am tying to install it in my network.  I'm wanting to have another wireless access point other than our iMac.
After looking through the "Guide Me" here on this site, I was able to get the ethernet connection working so the iMac connects to the internet.  Although I can connect my laptop via the iMac's wireless point, I haven't been able to connect wirelessly to the WRT54Gs with either the laptop or my cell phone.  On the laptop, the error is "No Interntet Connection.".
It also feels like my internet connection is slower through the Linksys than it was through a "generic" switch.
So, since I'm a newbie, what should my troubleshooting look like in order determine if there are settings that need to be adjusted or if it's simply a bum unit?
    Thanks

Hi, how did you connect the WRT54GS router? Did you connect that router to a modem or to another router? How was that router configured? Is it acting as a DHCP server or just a plain switch? I would suggest that you upgrade the router’s firmware and to reset the router in order for the router to have a stable performance. You can then check on the link below for different ways on how you can configure your router.

  • Wrt54gs router to internet cable modem connection drop

With the wrt54gs router set at auto dhcp and mostly on default settings, after some time of inactivity the connection between the router and internet cable modem drops out.  That is, when there is no activity (no transmission to/from internet) the connection drops and the wireless connections shows "local only."  Any suggestions/comments on why this is so?  Thanks!

Have you tried to connect the Modem to the computer and checked if you are facing the same problem or not?
On your Router setup page, change the MTU size from AUTO to Manual and change the Size from 1500 to 1350 and click on Save Settings..... Then click on the Wireless tab and below Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Click on the sub tab under Wireless "Advanced Wireless Settings"
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • WRT54G v4 No Internet, Ping/Tracert Work Fine From Device

I have a WRT54G v4 running the 4.21.1 firmware and cannot get internet access via the router.
    - My cable modem is working... it connects, works fine when my PC is plugged directly into the modem.
    - My WRT54G can connect to the internet... it gets an IP correctly, DNS correctly, and can ping/tracert correctly to www.google.com and other addresses from the administration page.
    - My PC can connect fine to the router... the admin page is accessible via wired connection (I've disabled the wireless on the AP to simplify troubleshooting).
    - My PC is assigned DNS servers from my ISP via the router's DHCP properly, but cannot connect to them.
    - My PC cannot get internet access via the router (pinging google's IP just times out, traceroutes fail after the router even when attempting to trace via an IP).
Here is a post (http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&thread.id=52449&view=by_da...) which basically looks like the same issue I'm having, although the only solution they had was to downgrade the firmware... I am unable to locate the older firmware for the v4 version of the router though.
Any help getting this working would be appreciated.

As you have upgraded the firmware of the roter try resetting the router reset button in such a way that power
light is blinking on the router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
    Configuration for cable connection:-
Access the setup page of the router by launching an
Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
    click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP ?. Click on the Save Settings
    button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online
If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then agian check the WAN Ip address .....
    & it should definately work!!!

  • WRT54G configuration for internet access using Lacie Network Space Max

    Please HELP!!!!
I have tried for the past 2 weeks trying to configure my router WRT54G so it allows me to access the Lacie over the internet without luck. I have followed every instructions from Lacie and every other FAQs and help on the internet, still no luck. I have spent numerous days with Lacie tech support and they could not figure it out - why my router would not allow me access over the internet. I am hoping that the big guns here can help me.
I have a number of laptops connected wirelessly to my local network and every laptop can access the Lacie NAS hardwired to one of the ports on my router. My entire system works wonderful locally.
The Lacie has been assigned a static IP of 192.168.1.199
My local network has a starting IP of 192.168.1.150 and ends at 192.168.1.199
    My router's IP is 192.168.1.99
I have assigned port forwarding for my Lacie (192.168.1.199) for ports
    20, 21, 25, 80, and 443.
I have tried other setups but no help. Please help!!!
    Happy New Year!!!

    Scrooge... thanks!
My NAS has ftp enabled. Access to the network is excellent throughout my local network. Every PC, wirelessly, can access everything on the NAS without any problem. Even when using the web browser using the IP or the dyndns.org assigned to the NAS. (I signed up for a free dynDNS)
The NAS can be accessed throughout the local network using explorer (under the network directory) and also by mapping the drive. The NAS can also be access using the web browser by either through its assigned IP (192.168.1.199) or by using the NAS's dyndns.org web address (web access requires login since it accesses the Network Space Max web page) - both by http and/or by ftp
My problem is accessing it through the internet outside my local network, i.e. from my work place or any other place away from home. The ability to access my data away from home is what I really wanted to be able to do.
"Open the setup page of the router and go to Status tab. Note down the Internet IP address.
Open the Internet browser and in the address bar type http://Internet_IP_address:21 or ftp://Internet_IP_address .
See if that works for ftp server."
Using the router's IP address for both format, http and ftp - I am not getting connected, even in my local network. Using NAS's static IP 192.168.1.199, I am able to access only using the ftp format. http://192.168.1.199:21 does not take me anywhere, but without the :21 takes me to the login page.
Again, thanks for all  your help.... I am lost and I need your HELP!

  • WRT54G version 7 -- INTERNET CONNECTION PROBLEM!!!

    Hi guys,
Just wondering how do i configure my router so that i am able connect to my router and use the internet?
    I have tried:
    1. Configuring my router according to "How can I set up a router with DSL Internet?" post on the support webpage
    http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3687
    2. I have tried checking my computer's IP address and that is fine
    3. Checking the Physical Connection to the Router i.e all the cables are connected
    4. Checking the LEDs
    5. I have upgraded the router's firmware to 7.00.4
    6. Turned off Windows Firewall
    7. Obtain IP address of the computer automatically
    8. My modem is working perfectly when i connect it directly to the computer
    9. Disable proxy setting.
    10. Ping to router and it is fine "Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss)."
    11. Ping to the internet "ping linksys.com" and there is nothing being sent and received
Btw, I am getting a signal from the router but its only is connected locally. There is no internet access and I am using vista (is it the cause of the problem?)
What do i do next to make this thing work?

Kindly connect the modem straight to the computer...click start >> all programs >> accessories >> command prompt...In the command prompt window type ipconfig /all and press Enter...Post the details...
Kindly state your ISP(Intenet Service Providor).
Kindly state the make and model number of your modem(not the wrt54g).

  • Wired PC to WRT54G w/o internet

Hello there.  Thank you in advance for taking time to review this post and answering it if applicable.  My desire is to connect my desktop via its 1GB ethernet to the WRT54G wireless router in order to interface with the two laptops that I have on a local private network.  I do not have a cable or dsl modem to connect to it as I share a wireless connection with my neighbor.  I keep getting the error "Unble to connect to router.  Check that the router has been connected to the computer and that the ethernet adapter is working properly".  My ethernet adapter is working properly.  Is this because I do not have a modem connected?  Do I have to have an internet connection in order to connect these 3 computers?  If you understand what my intentions are, is this a workable method or is there other equipment I need in order to accomplish this?

As you want only Local Access only in that case connect both the laptops directly to Router using Ethernet cable .check the Ip address on Local Area connection …if you are getting an Ip 192.168.1.X …. Try to ping gateway …..if getting 4 replies …..than you can access routers set up page.
Let me know if this work.

  • WRT54G - Cannot access internet but iMac airport says internet connection is fine... what's wrong?

I use a WRT54G wireless router connected to Mac. All of a sudden, I became unable to access certain websites on my iMac, such as Facebook and Apple homepages. But i can access Yahoo website. I tried resetting my linksys setup but it doesnt solve the problem. When i access my iphone via wifi at home, i am also unable to go into app store, facebook app, and emails with images won't load. I also cannot link my iphone to itunes on my iMac. What happens on my computer when I surf the internet is that the page just loads halfway and stop "responding". But my imac airport says that my internet connection is fine, however my access has become very "restricted". Can anyone tell me what's happening and how to resolve it?

To resolve difficulties accessing some websites when connected to a Linksys router you should check the following.
    Checking the router’s security settings
    Checking your computer’s security settings
Security on the web browser is set too high
Configuring the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) on the router
    Opening ports for secured sites

  • WRT54G for computer internet gaming

I just bought a RC aircraft game that has a multiplayer online game mode. I have to use a Static IP address and have a port range between 61234 and 61241. Simple enough I guess, if you know what you"re doing.
Here are the prolbems I am running into.
    1. because I use linksys security and have a password I had to push the reset button on the back of the router to be able to type admin and access the online set up. which was no big deal but if I knew how to do it useing my passwod it would be nice.
    2. After I made it to the set-up sight I went to settings and choose Static IPaddress. I had to make up a number for the static DNS so don't know if I did that right. I choose save settings.
    3. I then went to gaming where the ipaddress is listed about 6 times or so and you can choose to assign a port so that's what I did but everytime I would do that and go back to look it was not checked and it seemed the changes were not applied.
    4. after all that the two other wireless computers in the house would not connect to the internet, they did connet to linksys, but no internet connection so I ended up pushing the routed reset button again and putting things back the way they were.
Could some one help me get set up and do what I have to do to keep internet connection with my other two computers?
I would have gotten a ps3 if the game I wanted was made for it. I also want a multiplayer car race game.

Who is your ISP...?If your ISP is DSL then, you have to convert the modem into the bridge mode fist.
After resetting the router, first of all configure the router as per the ISP settings...then,Change the SSID name to some unique name. Now,you can open the ports under port forwarding tab...Check this link.
