WRT54G V8.00.2 Linksys advisor fault

I am hard wired into a WRT54G V8.00.2 and an get on the internet and also can get on wirelessly with a laptop.
The power, WLAN, 1 and Internet lights are lit.  Yet when I go into the Easylink advisor to refresh the network status it tells me there is no internet connection.
That's right the internet light is lit and I CAN get on the internet, yet it tells me there is no internet connection.
What am I doing wrong?

Nothing is wrong.  Try LELA 3.0 or don't use it at all.  It's not needed.

  • PLEASE HELP i have trouble with WRT54G port forwarding with linksys

Hello guys, i play a game called populous, and since im on a router i cannot host the game, when i used to have a d-link all i would do is have to set up the port to my ip with the udp. but ever since i have swiched to linksys that doesnt work, the ip on my portforwaring is the same as the one on my computer the port is correct and the udp is set, i also have no fire walls on and it still doesnt make a differance, Someone in the game suggested that there is a local ip i need to get? is that true or is there another setting i need to set up in my router page?
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN <3<3 thanks

Yes that happens if you write replies to your own posts. Many regulars here only answer their "own" topics (i.e. to which they have answered before) and new ones which don't have replies, yet. If you write a reply to your own topic chances are your are not read unless during some random browsing...
Regarding your problem it is impossible to say anything unless you give the exact settings you have on your router. Please post the full settings you have for port forwardings, port triggering and DMZ. If you have UPnP forwarding in your router (I don't think you have) post those settings, too.
Otherwise I suggest this checklist for troubleshooting port forwardings.

  • Problems with LinkSys advisor software

I got a new Wireless-G Broadband Router and installed the software.  It downloaded the LELA advisor program and about 4 days later, an update apparently came out.  It slowed my computer down to the point that I couldn't use it--if you can imagine 5 to 7 minutes to respond to a command!  For short periods of time, it would operate normally and then go back to the unbelievably slow, poor performance.  I had to bring it in for repair because I couldn't even get to the add/ delete programs to get it out of my computer.  They were able to work on it and remove that horrible program.  The router works fine and I have no complaints with it, but I would sure caution you buying into that automatic update system!  If your router is working fine, why would you want to change it with an update?

I will suggest you to uninstall the LELA program ... if it is slowing down the computer to work ....
Let me know who is your Internet Service provider ... so that i can tell you few manual steps to install the router ...

  • Instructions for setting WRT54GS security to WPA2? Can't find them anywhere.

    Hi,
I'm an amateur at this, so please excuse this load of ignorant questions.
I have 2 PC clients, both Dell Dimensions 3.2GHz 1GB RAM, Wireless-G adapters. OS is Windows XP SP2
The router is a Linksys WRT54GS. I'm using the wireless ports only, at least when I'm not modifying the security settings. Then I use a temporary cable to connect one of the PC's to the router.
I also have a TiVo DVR series 3 with a wireless adapter.
The router came with a copy of Linksys Advisor. When I ran this software I was able to set the security level to WPA-Personal. However I could find no option to set the level to WPA2.
I know the TiVo supports WPA2 because I saw the option when I was configuring it for WPA-personal.
    My question(s):
Why doesn't EasyLink Advisor have an option to set the security level to WPA2? Is it just deficient, or does it check to see if the client PCs support WPA2 and disable the option if they don't?
How would I go about checking if my PCs support WPA2?
Finally, if I have to set the security to WPA2 manually, what is the procedure for doing this?
It's pretty easy to see how this can be done on the router's little web server pages; but as soon as I set the security to WPA2 there, I'm going to lose wireless connections to the PCs and I won't be able to access the router.
I know I can get there via a cable connection, but then what do I do? How do I set up my clients for WPA2?
What's a real pain about all this is that the EasyLink Advisor gives hints on how to optimize performance on secured wireless systems. It advises going to WPA2! But its Wizard doesn't give the option to do that. Its offline help file is minimal - it just says "use the wizard" and that's it.
The online help describes how to manually configure WPA but not WPA2. And the instructions for WPA are incomplete. They explain how to set up the router, but then do not explain how to use the enccryption keys when reconnecting client PCs. They just say to select the SSID in the wireless icon's connect menu, then click on connect. Where does the key go?
Thanks for your time in reading this,
    Big Al Mintaka

First of all, Windows XP SP2 can do WPA2, however it requires a patch.   Go to Microsoft Knowledge base, article ID=917021 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.
Additionally, be sure to give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
As to why EasyLink Advisor works the way it does - I just don't know.
To setup WPA2, you will first need to patch Windows XP, then, using a computer that is wired to the router, go into the router and change the encryption to "WPA2 - personal"  with  "AES".  Reboot modem and router.  You are correct that you will now loose your wireless connections until you update the settings in your wireless devices.
Next go into your computers and likewise change the encryption to "WPA2 - personal"  (= WPA2 = PSK2 ).   (Note:  You do not necesarily need to specify "AES" in your computers (or Tivo), but if you are given a choice between TKIP and AES, choose AES.)
To find these settings for your computers, go to the wireless software in your computer, and go to "Preferred Networks"  (sometimes called "Profiles" ).  There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Delete your current network  (this will clear any old settings).  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and enter your network info (SSID, encryption, and key). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.
You will need to check the Tivo manual for how to change the Tivo to WPA2.

  • Need help with wrt54gs v7

i think my router is dead but heres the info
the 1-2-3-4 ethernet lights are flashing and the internet light
ive tried holding down the reset button for 30 secs and nothing happens
computer doesent recognize it and i cant get any type of connection out of it

i really hope someone can help me with my situation that i'm in. My WRT54GS v7 been acting on me. I had a network establish on it connecting to my Xbox 360. When i switch different game systems i disconnected my game adapter and the router from the modem for a short period. Later i connect everything again and it went fine. I just changed security settings and tired to reconnect my game adapter back to the xbox 360 and nothing happen. It couldn't find the router. Later after several different trial and errors. It found it. Still couldn't connect. First the network and then the IP address stop the game adapter from working couldn't connect fully to the router. so i went back on trying to set the router to allow the game adapter in. Change the settings back to normal and then a message about detecting new changes makes this your defalut settings so i tried , but now couldn't detect the router ( even though it's right there not even 3 feet away). So i did what i was told to my the Linksys advisor to detect the router. Rest 10 seconds , connect, wait 30sec. , click next. I went to help and followed more instructions there. I reset the router several times. I uninstall and reinstall, went to web site to go to factory default. Tried on the game adaptor the reset, type manually on xbox ,but to no avil have i succeed. I also went online and tried these commands. Ipconfig/ renew, release, all(for info). I need a miracle so please can someone help me on a permant fix. Since resetting, reinstalling, refactory defaulting doesn't seem to work..Also how can iconnect my game adapter to it. I used the set up for both router and game adapter and i'm still stuck where i am. :[

  • Can't access User Interface on WRT54G.

I can't access the user interface any more on my WRT54G.   Used to be I could access it with IP 192.168.1.1 over my network, (or using the internet www.mydomain.com:8080) and it would come up but very, very slow.  Now I can't access it at all.  When I go to the address, the login box comes up, and once I enter the login, it just goes to a blank screen.  I've tried multiple PCs, Firefox, IE.  Nothing works.  How can I fix this?
The router continues to work fine, and the LinkSys Advisor functions (slowly) I just can't access the admin user interface to make changes.

Might be possible that the usernmae & password you are using is not working on the route ... make sure that you are using correct username & password .... if not then reset the router so that the password also gets resetted & you can use Admin password without any username ...
Once resetted you need to reconfigure the router ... .& open the port 8080 for remote access ....

  • WRT54GS Wireless is flawless, wired does nothing

After contacting linksys TWICE, I finally got my WRT54GS to work..... kind of.  My laptop is able to connect wirelessly to my router, and therefore, the internet.  HOwever, my desktop, which is wired directly into the router, isn't able to get online.  When I check the network connection, it says it's connected, but I'm not about to actually get online.  My linksys advisor doesn't detect the computer on my network, either.

I had a similiar problem with my WRT54gs. I ran a wire from one room to another through the wall and across the attic. I used wall plate receptacles so my wife wouldn't have a fit about a wire going across the floor. The receptacles has screw connectors for the wire I ran which I thought would be idiot proof. When I tried to access the internet, my network connection showed limited or no connectivity. I checked continuity across each wire and all checked out well. Still no connectivity. Long story short, I removed the wall plate connectors and attached an rj45 connector to the end of each end of the wire. works great. Stong clear signal. Are your wires cat5 or cat5e ? Did you make the connectors? If so, verify the wires are making good contact with the connector. If you ran a wire through the wall and used wall plates, put an rj45 connector on the end of the wires and by a wall plate with a 2 female receptacles. available at radio shack.  hope this helps

  • WRT54G huge problem NEED HELP! FAST!

I puchashed my WRT54G router about two weeks ago and connected it to my network and connected my xbox and xbox live to it. i noticed the live wasn'tworking as well as it should and found that i needed to open some NAT ports and update my firmware. While updating my firmware the interet page expired and i'd assume it didn't update, then i lost connection to live and the internet. It said on linksys advisor that the network had changed. So i tired to reinstall the router and it would'nt work. i made sure all the plugs were in the correct spot also, and even tried resetting the router but still no dice, and the big problem is i can't even view the router on that i.p website thing!!
p.s. i haveverizon internet and have a westell 1600 modem
if anyone can help me god bless you

    verizon , ur modem is not really a modem . its a router/modem .
its already giving u an ip address in the same DHCP range as of the router . i.e: 192.168.1.xx
u need to just plug in ur router to computer , uninstall the easy link(wont be of any gud in verizon connection ,and its buggy as well ).
once router is connected to computer from port no.1.2.3or 4 ..any one .
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds ..den unplug the power cable and plug in the power cable after 20 seconds.
then try to log into the routers web user interface - 192.168.1.1
    see if it opens?
    if yes
then ull find A local ip address option there- change it to - 192.168.7.1
and save settings .after saving the settings u might again kicked off from internet or set up web user interface.
then again , unplug the computer cable from router , and Power from router
wait for 20 seconds , now plug the verizon / westell into back of the router's into internet port as well.
    power cycle.
lights should be like -power/wlan/1/internet - on router.
    try to go online .
if it works ....let me know the status ?

  • Online Games Problems With WRT54G Router

    Hi There ppl,
I have a Lan House with 50 comps working, and most of my costumers are looking for online games entertainment (Cabal Online, Ragnarok, Dota, CS, 9 Dragon etc). We have an 8 Gb DSL connection and another one of the same speed for back-up (not running simultaneously at the moment). We should be having outstanding results for online gamming (and we were before installing the new router) but we are having several problems since we install a new LinkSys WRT54G router here. Our physical configuration is the modem, followed by the router, than three DLink Switches(24 ports) and my main computer. Everything cable
What we noticed is that the Internet connection looks normal (even using the command "ping", nothing strange appears, no timed out at all!) but online games (specially the above mentioned) have an intermitent connection. (Some times they connect, some dont)... Looks like it happens usually when I have the house crowded, but already showed also with it empty.
Another issue is that I am using the LinkSys Advisor to help identifying this problem, but I am getting even more confused, because its giving new information each time I refresh the "my network" window. Also happens when showing "My Network Settings" on the Support Tab.
Im using Firmware 8.00.0, what I think is the newest.
I didnt try any forwarding port issue yet, as I would like to receive more information about it (never needed to configure anything related before). Concerning the MTU value I already tryed withou any significantly result.
Please If anyone had the same problem, or have any idea of other possible tests, i would appreciate a lot.
Thank you and have a great day all

    Hi there Helm,
Tks for your attention and reply to my issue!! Yesterday right after posting here (when we closed the doors and I could be able to work on it) I did get the latest one (8.00.2) and also set up manually the MTU value to 1500 (standard is automatic). I also unckeck the "anonymous internet request bock", "Multcast filter" and "Filter NAT forwarding", all of them were checked as standard. I also checked the "HTTPS Internet Access" (standard is only HTTP).
At a first moment I could get a very low sensitive better result (but the Lan was closed, so I had the entire 8Gb for my requests). I came back to work right now, and we have about 30 ppl in, mostly using the Internet, MSN and so... I am trying yo connect to Cabal Online, and GG-Esports (Warcraft, Dota) both of them giving the same problems as always... I am really getting tired and disapointed with LinkSys, I really though I would have much more than I am having right now.
Anyway I gonna keep trying each night to see what I cant get. I do post here If I find any solution (or if I really decided to move to another brand)
Thank you a lot and have a great night out there

do i have to have the laptop hooked up to the wrt54g for the xbox to work? when the laptop is hooked to the cable it works and when i disconnect it stops working yet i could run my old pc and this laptop wireless and xbox still worked.
i uninstalled the linksys advisor program and reinstalled and finally said screw it and deleted it and now the laptop connects finally but still no xbox.

Do the following settings on your Router for X-Box to connect...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on "Applications and Gaming" tab and then click on "Port Range Forwarding" subtab...
    1) On the first line in Application box type in ABC, in the start box type in 53 and End box type in 3074, leave the protocol as both and under ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and check the enable box, click Save Settings once done...
    2) Once you return to the set up page click on the Security tab and uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests and click on Save Settings...
    3) Click on set-up and change the MTU Size to 1452 and click Save Settings...Click on the Status tab and take note of DNS1 and DNS2 Addresses...
    4) Goto the XBox Network Settings and IP Address Settings and select manual IP Settings and assign the following on your Xbox
    IP Address :- 192.168.1.20, Subnet Mask :- 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway :- 192.168.1.1...
    5) Also assign the DNS Addresses on the Xbox
Use DNS1 and DNS2 Addresses you took note off of the router status tab as Primary DNS & Secondary DNS for the xbox...
    6) Turn off your modem, router, and Xbox...Wait for a minute...
    7) Plug the modem power first, wait for another minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute and turn on the Xbox and test it...it will connect...

  • Can't complete WRT54GS setup using supplied software disk

I had an old WRT54G router that had two of it's inputs die, so I decided to replace it.  I had an unopened from 2007 WRT54GS (bought it as a replacement  for the existing router but never installed it.)
After connecting it a few weeks ago I found that the installation software told me that I didn't have an internet connection, so I really couldn't go any further with it.
Funny thing is, I can go anywhere on the net that that I like, including this forum, with no problem.  So I don't know why the software installation package(Easylink Linksys Advisor) doesn't see a connection to the net.
I've set up the router with a new password (other than Admin) and changed it to WPA2, and then downloaded and installed a firmware update, but the software still stubbornly insists that I don't have a connection to the net.
So should I forget about the software's problem and continue as I am?  Would that be a problem?  Or does someone know of a fix for this...

Well, ok -- yeah, I already did the web-based thing, changed from the default password, and did whatever else I knew about.
But I assumed that the cd-based setup would do more stuff.  And "manual?"  What manual?  All they give you is the stupid cd.  I'll check to see if the manual is on the cd, if not I can probably get one from the web.
    Thanks...

  • WRT54G v6 -- PCs' not able to enter encryption key?

Just bought a WRT54G, replacing an older Linksys wireless router (BEF.... something)...
I set up the new router with an encryption key (128-bit key using WEP).
My work PC, which for security reasons has the encryption key already built in, finds the network and works fine.
My home PCs (new HP notebook running XP pro) which do not already have that key set up, detect the network, says it's secured, but when I click on connect, it never prompts me for a network key to enter, just gives an error message saying it can't connect.  Nowhere can I find anywhere to manually bring up properties, etc.
Same problem on a 2-year old Toshiba laptop with XP pro, and an Apple iBook with Mac OS X.
I've connected many times to other wireless networks with encryption keys, this is the first time I've experienced this.
Any help would be appreciated -- is there some router setting I'm missing that will enable this to work?
    Thank you.

sharkbyte, even if you do not delete the entry of your preferred wireless network, it should prompt with a network key...
what you can do is to do this
    click START
    go to RUN
    type in services.msc
under the service local window, look for wireless zero configuration, right click on it then click on restart.
then try to connect wirelessly again.. It should prompt you with a network key already

  • Macbookpro & linksys wrt300n router

Hello, can you tell me if I can use a linksys wrt300n wireless router with a macbookpro & G4 Imac ?
    thanks

    Hi Danielh,
I sure hope that I can help you. Sorry for the somewhat slow response time, I have been playing XBOX all afternoon.
First off, I would totally disagree with the Office Depot guy. The thing is "n" isn't actually a "real" thing yet, it has yet to be approved by the WiFi alliance who oversees everything wireless. Right now "g" is still the standard, which is what is built into the AirPort Etreme cards in all current Apple computers.
On the topic of why you would want a "faster than 6MBps connection" from the router, it is because of how the router transmitts "stuff." While yes, Comcast has a top speed tier of 6MBps for standard service, the faster your connection to the router the faster files will transfer, and generally the better the connection you have. Lets say you have a 11MBps connection with a router, and you use your comcast. You will not get the full 450-600KBps download speed that you would get while directly connected to the router. With a router such as the WRT54G/GS, your connection speed will generally be 54MBps, which will achieve download speeds on the internet much closer to the wired speed of 450-600KBps. And now with Comcats new PowerBoost, us comcast people can now get speeds of up to 12MBps with our standard 6MBps service. So the faster the router, the faster the internet will go, although downloads will never go over the standard 6MBps (with bursts up to 12MBps.)
If you frequently move/transfer files from computer to computer, than the faster your wireless connection the faster your files will transfer. So in fact, 108MBps is NOT overkill, although no current Apple computer will support 802.11n at this time.
I actually have the WRT54GS, but have worked with many WRT54G's for customers. Both are very good routers and some of the cheapest, although the WRT54GS is more around mid-range price. Some people do have problems with the WRT54G but many times this is because they have not set it up properly, or updated the firmware, or in worst case they could have a "dud" router which happens quite a lot in the world of WiFi. But overall I have been EXTREMELY happy with the WRT54GS, and most Linksys routers that I have worked with. (As a side note I HATE D-LINK ROUTERS!)
While I do not use my iBook, or my Dell laptop, with a WRT54G router much, the times that I have I can't really tell a difference in speeds between the WRT54G and my WRT54GS. So I would save your money and just get the WRT54G. Yes any Linksys router, other than the Compact series routers, will work just fine in your apartment. Linksys are somewhat superior to other routers such as D-Links, and Netgears because of the second antenna that most all of them sport, such as the WRT54G.
I really hope that this helps!
