WRT54G V8 Cannot Connect

I have been using this router fine for a year now.  Now I can only get on the internet if I am directly plugged into the modem.  It says I have limited connectivity.  My ISP is Comcast.  I have tried resetting the router with no luck.  I have tried to update the drivers but I cannot even log into 192.168.1.1.  I am in dire need of the wireless cpability.  Anyone know what I can do? When I go to the run command and type ipconfig it tells me I have no default gateway.

Hi!!

  • WRT54G Router cannot connect to internet

I have Earthlink DSL and am trying to connect to the internet via the WRT54G from my Dell desktop. (Can connect to internet directly through modem just fine.)Have ethernet cable connected to DSL modem and router internet port. Have other cable connected to ethernet desktop port and port1 on router. Setup CD fails on "checking internet connection."
    Per tblshooting docs:
    Have changed IP to 192.168.2.1
Have changed to PPPOE, with ISP [email protected] and password.
Powered off modem, router, PC. Restarted.
Try to connect to internet--Earthlink dial-up pop-up comes up because there's no DSL connection.
    Help.

On top of IE.... go to tools... internet options... then connections... then check the box that says never dial a connection.....
Go back to default 1st on the router. Start from scratch by pressing the reset button of the router for 20-30 seconds , then power down router for 10 seconds and power it back up.
The go back to the router interface (192.1681.1) and leave it as just Obtain IP Automatically or Automatic Configuration DHCP... then go to MAC Address Clone.. enable... clone... save settings... then go to the status page and tell us what is the Internet IP Address value that you see...

  • WRT54GS cannot connect via wire...connects wirelessly

I have a WRT54GS and cannot connect laptop via wire.

Hooked it to another  cable right by the router WRT54GS and it connected, and it worked.
Also If I bypass the router from the non working location it works.
No error message there is however a little red X between the router and the www globe when I try and use the wizard.

  • WRT54G -- Cannot connect to internet

I just updated my router and gave my old WRT54G Ver 2.0 to a friend friend.   It was working on my home network with no problems.
When we got it to his house, we are unable to connect to the Internet.  We have tried both the original install disk and configuring the router manually.
    His ISP is Verizon DSL
He is running Win XP on his Dell desktop.
The Dell is hardwired to the WRT54G
He is able to connect to the Internet when directly connected to the Verizon provided modem.
When running Linksys install wizard, everything seems to going smoothly until we get to Step 7.   At that point we "Cannot connect to the Internet."
    Any suggestions?

well , PPPoE set up is authenticating the connection with the ISP....it is not related with the office or the home environment...
if u get 192.168.1.x as the internet ip add on the router's status page , then u need to change the router's ip add to 192.168.2.1....because if u do not change it there is a conflict in the ip add of the router and that on the modem....so the need to change the ip add of the router...
however , in that case the modem has the router features still enabled....so a better way is to bridge the modem....by doing that u stop the modem to act as a router and it will act only as a modem...and allow the linksys to handle the routing feature...

  • WRT54G ver.7 Cannot Connect ...

I am having trouble using WRT54G on my server. Still i have no internet when i connect my PROLINK ADSL2+ Modem/Router to my LINKSYS WRT54G router. The process is this 1. I run the CD first, 2. I connect the modem cable to the internet port of Linksys router, 3. I connect the LAN cable on the 1st port of the router (from 1,2,3,4) and connect it to my LAN on my server. 4. And continue the instructions from the CD. Still it says that no internet detected at all. I tried to reset my Linksys router several times but still cannot connect. I tried to use Easylink from Linksys.com but still cannot detect any internet connection. I tried to reset my dsl modem as well and no internet connection detected again. I tried to configure some items on my linksys router but i am not successful doing it again. My Linksys router is set in DHCP Automatic configuration then my routers IP is 192.168.1.1 and the other is in default settings. I dont need to use some username and password to connect on my internet because it is plug and play only. If i only use my modem connected directly to my server, there is internet connection but when i use my router there is no connection at all. Is there any configuration can you suggest to make my router functional when i use it?

Well tell me who provides you with the internet service if its a Cable or DSL connection accordingly i will give you the information....all you need to do is check if you are able to go online with the modem if yes then you need to connect modem to the interner port of the linksys router & then from any one of the four ports on the linksys router you need to connect a cable to the pc & you will be able to go online without any issue.

  • WRT54GS cuts internet connection

    Any ideas?
My WRT54GS cuts the connection after 10 min. Then I make a reset and works again for another 10 min and cuts again.

Upgrade your Router's firmware and reconfigure it...

  • Satellite Pro L300-1B9 cannot connect to my Wireless router

    Hi!
I have activated the wireless nw on SAT L300 PRO 1B9 - but with many fight...
First I needed to find the switch to enable (I never though that it have... :-) ).
Then I needed to deinstall Atheros in Windows, and set the flags on (enable) in the Windows driver.
But in both Linux and Windows I couldn't connect to my Wireless router.
My luck was that some of my neightbours have security-disabled, open wireless network, what I could map to test.
The test was succecfully with that network, but my wireless router was unreachable.
From other machine I could reach it.
    The result was:
If I set the router to broadcast the SSID, both OSs (Ubuntu + Windows) can use wireless network.
But if I disable the broadcasting (to protect my router), the network driver cannot use my router, it does not matter I pre-set the SSID...
A router is WRT54G, and it is working with other computers if I hide the SSID, but with SAT L300 Pro cannot connect (with this option).
Do anybody knows why? What I need to do to I could hide the SSID from the bad guys?
    Thanks for any help!
    Regards:
    dd

I dont know which Windows OS do you use but if you use original Vista, I think, right WLAN driver is part of the package. So WLAN card must be installed properly.
It is not easy to say what is wrong there but if the notebook can see and detect your WLAN network on notebooks side everything must be OK. Try to restart your router and check all settings.
In my opinion there is some problem with WLAN settings.

  • WRT54GS V7 loses connection

My WRT54GS loses its connection periodically, requiring a reboot to get it functioning. Further, it reliably locks up while I play Starcraft 2, booting me from the game due to a connection timeout with clockwork regularity. In these cases, the router will eventually come back online on its own, but does so faster if I reboot it.
The router has the newest firmware. What could be the problem? How can I test to determine the issue?
    Thank you!

Have you changed the settings on your router as i have mentioned in the earlier post?
Since there is no change, you can try to download the firmware from the linksys website and update your router.
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in search tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop

  • Wired PC and Wireless PC cannot connect to each other

Hi, I recently bought a new Linksys WRT54G router and I was able to succesfully connect my wired desktop pc and my wireless laptop to the internet through the router. My only concern is that I want my laptop to share its files through my desktop pc and vice versa, however, it seems it does not work. Both pcs cannot connect to each other. Any suggestions will do. Thanks and Good Luck.

This may be a file sharing problem about which many have asked. You have an additional problem. File sharing between wireless and wired. I have a VPN connection where the wireless can see the wired network (subnet) but the wired cannot see the wireless.
The problem remains: why is the wireless network remaining "invisible" unpingable -- not shared?
I know this is not a answer, just a plea for a further answer from some networking genius logging into to the forum.

  • Airport Express G cannot connect to network

    Hello,
I have the Airport Express (G version) running the 6.3 firmware. My problem is that I cannot connect to my home network. When I use the airport express to create the wireless network, I can connect the Windows and Mac machines to it to stream iTunes and all works perfectly. When I connect it to my home network (Linksys WRT54G running dd-wrt) I cannot connect anything to it once it is configured. I set it up from the mac and all the network settings are transferred to the Airport Express. It seems to connect for a minute then the connection drops. Sometimes iTunes sees the Airport Express and it tries to connect but is unsuccessful. I cannot edit the airport settings from either machine without resetting it to factory defaults and reconfiguring.
The problem seems to be the Airport Express doesn't want to play nice with the home network. Does anybody have any suggestions?
As I am writing this I cannot remember if I have had the Airport Express working since I've installed dd-wrt. I know it worked pre dd-wrt and am hoping that isn't the issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Jared

Express works fine with third party routers including the WRT54G, but once you modify it you're on your own. I'd go to the dd-wrt forum and ask around.

  • WRT54G v7 wont connect to modem / internet

Hi all i have a problem here with a new unit of Linksys WRT54G v7 in Indonesia. Previously i have some other linksys products such as wag200g wre54g and wrt54gv1 without problem at Singapore. ----- so here is the problem= i bought one new unit of WRT54Gv7 and connect it to the modem to achieve wireless connectivity. before i connect both of them i've set different IP for the router so that it does not clash with the modem IP. however, unlike the v1 of WRT54G i cannot access the internet. not even the modem IP. also, the wireless connection likes to disconnect itself despite having excellent signal strength. when i call the shop back about this. they changed my WRT54G with a new exact product. ----- so i went home and try. unfortunately no difference in performance, i still cannot access both internet and modem. i can access to modem rarely though. i call back the shop, they told me to disable dhcp server and reset the router. no offence. but i've done every single details they asked me to do. in the end nothing happen. ----- i do lot of research on the net and many told me that WRT54Gv7 is the worst version of WRT54G currently. im not sure whether this is true or not. but i'll appreciate it if someone would share some lights here... im confused, is both of the product defective, or my settings are wrong. in fact i've plug the router to 3 different modems without luck. ----- thanks for reading and sorry for the bad english.

hmm thanks for the reply. but i got a trick to deal with the router, that is=== i disable dhcp server and connect the broadband cable to the number 1 instead of internet port. the shopguy told me and ridiculously this method works, although i know this is not the way it suppose to be...

  • HELP!!!!! I Cannot Connect to the Internet!!!!!!

I just connected my WRT54G router to my modem and hard wired my computer to port 1 on the back of the router............I cannot connect to the internet, but can connect to the router using 192.168.1.1. I am on a DSL connection. Any suggestions????           THANKS!!!!

If  you were able to access the router's set-up page using the default gateway 192.168.1.1 with the modem already connected to the internet port of the router, it means that the default of the modem does not conflict with that of the router. if you cant go online, check the status tab and check for IP address. If you got values/numbers there, it should get you online. if not, if they are all 0.0.0.0, it means that you were still not able to establish connection with both devices.
try to connect your modem straight to the computer, if you cannot go online (since you have DSL connection), try to remember if your ISP gave you a username and password. Your modem is set to full bridged so in order for the router to work with the modem, set the Internet Connection type to " PPPoE" (you can see this under Set-Up tab).. and try to check if you can have IP address.
Or if there's no user name and password from ISP. configure first the router without connecting the modem. then change the router's IP address. then connect the router and configure. it should work now. just configure the wireless settings later after you are sure that you are online directly with the router.

  • Macbook Pro Cannot Connect to SMTP

I am running a 2010 MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.8.  I use Mac Mail app to send and receive e-mail.  Since Thursday 27th Dec 2012 I have been unable to send e-mail.  I get the grey spinning wheel until the following error message appears:
The SMTP connection to server “mail.(mydomain).co.uk” failed.
My outgoing mail server is currently showing as offline.  In fact I have 2 e-mail accounts and both are showing as offline.  No problem receiving mail.  Connection doctor connects fine to incoming mail, but not outgoing.
I have tried the following (plus other things) without any success:
Checked all the details, passwords etc
Changed ports from 25 to 465 and 587
Checked my IP address - it is not blacklisted
    Removed and re-added e-mail account
Telnet port 25 - it is not blocked, but appeared to successfully connect (from what I understood from checking www)
    Temporarily disabled firewall
    Re-installed Mac app
    Rebuilt mailbox
    Repaired disk permissions
    Used the repair disk utility
Deselected SSL and changed various options within "Edit SMTP server list"
    Reset the keychain
Tried updating software but it says no update available.
Re-instated an old Accounts.plist (and one other file which I forget, something like com.apple.mail) from time capsule.
I then set up a hotmail account on Mail app but had exactly the same problem, ie cannot connect with SMTP server.
However, I set up my e-mail account on my wife's iPad with the same details and there was no problem at all, e-mail sent just fine as it does from my iPhone.  So the issue has to be with my Macbook, right?  Can anyone help before I go and spent £1250 on a new Macbook?  I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just FYI, I've had the same problem for months now. I have been accessing my hotmail via the web, but decided to try the OS X Mail app.  I could get emails into the account with no problem but couldn't send.  I read all the blog and support entries and have tried everything they recommended, like changing my computer name to one word, without success.  Then last night, it just so happened that my broadband provider had to change out my wireless modem.  As soon as he plugged in the new one, some emails that had been in my outbasket for a month went through instantly and all of a sudden my Mail, both incoming and outgoing now work.  So I think people need to look at their router settings for the a solution to the problem.
