Wrt54g v8 not working

the wireless connection icon says not connected.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Take not of the Wireless Settings(SSID and WEP/WPA Key) on your Router...
To know the Wireless Settings follow this link
Once you know the Wireless Settings attempt to connect to your Wireless Network...
XP :
Click on Start and goto the Control Panel and double click on Network Connections, right click on Wireless Network Connection and click on Properties.
Now on this window, click on the second tab Wireless Network and give a check mark on "Use windows to configure my wireless" and then remove all the network names present in the Preferred Networks Window. Then click on OK...
Right click on the Wireless Network Connection again and click on View Available Wireless Networks and try to re-connect to your network...
Now it will give you the opportunity to put the network/wep key, make sure you enter the correct network key and confirm it...
It will connect...
Vista :
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing Center >> Manage Wireless Networks, here remove all the networks present and close the Window...

  • WRT54G v6 not working with new Motorola SB6141 on Comcast (IPv4 and IPv6)

My WRT54G v6 not working with a new Motorola SB6141 Cable Modem on Comcast (IPv4 and IPv6).
Yesterday, I had my old DOCSIS 1.1 cable modem and the WRT54G had been working just fine for the past 8 years.
Last night, I swap in the DOCSIS 3.0 SB6141 cable modem, and now the WRT54G keeps losing the internet connection.  When I go into the status page for the WRT54G, I often do not see DNS servers and sometimes do not even see an IP address.
If I connect a PC directly to the SB6141 cable modem, I have no problems whatsoever.  But whenever I connect through the WRT54G and power cycle both devices, then I have internet connectivity for about an hour before it drops out.  I have noticed my gateway IP address and DNS servers change at that time as well.  I can also force the Linksys to lose connectivity by doing a DHCP release/renew on the Linksys status page.
Is this behavior because of the dual stack (IPv4 and IPv6) coming through the cable modem from Comcast now?  Is there any way I can keep using my WRT54G v6 now that I have the SB6141 cable modem?

You just have to install it correctly.

  • WRT54G wireless not working after upgrading to windows vista, please help

    Hello everyone....
I have a few problems. I upgraded to Windows Vista and cant seem to get my wireless internet working. My router is WRT54G wireless-g broadband router. Ever since I upgraded Vista my xbox 360 will not connect.
I just bought a new wireless web camera and that does not work either because the wireless is not working.
Any suggestions on what I should do to solve this issue?
I noticed when I goto 192.168.1.1 my firmware version is Firmware Version: v3.03.9 does that have anything to do with it? Is there a more up-to-date version that will help?
    Hope to hear from someone.

I have the same problem, and so does my son, he has a toshiba satellite new laptop and I have an acer new laptop, both have Vista on them, and my wife has XP and has no problem getting on teh router, but i have this problem everyday.
Eventually it will all of a sudden show up and connect and start working, then if you laeave your computer in standby movde overnight, it will still work in the morning, but if you shut down comeplety you will lose the connection for who knows how long. what is the fix Linksys?

  • WRT54G Wireless not working - Wired is fine

You may have seen my last post, where I asked how to set up static IPs within my little network and do a couple other things - thanks for the advice, everything seemed to work great.
BUT I'm not getting wireless to work.  I don't think this is a product of my changes, as 1) I haven't been using wireless in the past and 2) I tried changing things back and trying (as a control) and still had the same problem.
Running a WRT54G router, hardwired to three computers (each which also has wireless capabilities).  For freedom from wires, tried switching over to wireless.  I disabled the "wired" adapters to prevent any interference, and turned on the wireless ones (linksys notebook G adapters and a G pci adapter).
I had the "wired" adapters set up for static IPs within the 10-20 range (192.168.1.10[to 20]).  This worked fine.  I switched my routers IP to something else, still works.  Turn on MAC filtering, and added all six MAC addresses, still good.  Then I tried to configure the wireless adapters for static IP like I did the "wired", and used them and got nothing.  Tried pinging the router from the comps, and the comps from the router - 1005 packet loss.  Went back and set up the adatpers to DHCP (which is still enabled on the router) and still not getting a connection.  Tried no encryption, WEP and WPA2 PSK - not working.
My only thought is, I detect like literally 20-25 networks in my area (I live in NYC in a apartment).  I can detect my network's SSID, and signal strength is perfect (it should be, all comptuers are within 30 feet of each other ) but when I try to connect, I get the waiting/status bar for like five minutes and then nothing.  Are there settings I can use to help optimize my network to deal with all the interference?  Are there other troubleshooting things I should try?  My last trip here for advice turned out really well - appreciate your help.

hi , You can try a few things here...specially since you have so many wireless networks around you.
bring up network connections, right click on the wireless network connecting and bring up properties...select the wireless networks tab and remove all networks from under "preferred networks".....once done , add your network. You can specify the encryption keys under the association/authentication tab. One more thing, under the preferred networks , you have an advanced button....hit that and select the 2nd option...
on the router you can try and change the beacon to 50 and reduce the RTS and fragmentation threshold by 40 each...these are found under the advanced wireless settings.

  • WRT54GS - wireless not working

I am using a wrt54gs and the wired connection works fine.  The wireless however, will not connect.  It has been working fine for over a year.  I recently had to move some things around and unplugged my router and cable modem.  Since then I can not connect wirelessly. Out of about 100 tries it has connected twice.  I have upgraded the firmware, reset the modem and router, changed mtu to 1300 tried channels 1,6, and 11 and several other suggestions found on the site but nothing works.  Note: It has at times connected and issued an invalid ip address and can not connect to the internet

Change the SSID to some unique name...Under the Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 50,Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...Under the Security tab,Uncheck "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" and click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...Make sure that you are typing the correct security key...If you are using WEP then, use Key1 as the Network key.

  • WRT54G does not work or what am I doing wrong?

My setup: DSL -> 2wire modem router (bridge mode, firewall shutdown) ->WRT54G -> LAN with 1 IPPBX, 1 wired PC and 3 wireless PC.
VoIP is running fine within our LAN, we have 2 SIP trunks running fine, But we just cant make an external softphone to work properly from WAN (outside the LAN).
As long as I know, the simplest way to explain what a firewall does is 'everything requested from the inside should be wellcomed, anything unsolicited from the outside should be disallowed UNLESS explicitly told otherwise' this is, why the heck do we have unreachable ports althought we have allow those to receive extern traffic?
Please check the pdf´s (snapshots) here:
    http://travelexpress.com.mx/download/router/status.pdf
    http://travelexpress.com.mx/download/router/router_firewall.pdf
    http://travelexpress.com.mx/download/router/router_forward.pdf
    http://travelexpress.com.mx/download/router/scanner.pdf
    http://travelexpress.com.mx/download/router/scanner1.pdf
All those are for showing current setup, firewall, port forwarding and the results of a port scanner wich shows that efectively, we cannot use our extern SIP client because the WRT54G is blocking it...
Thanks in advance as we are urged to fix this ASAP

Yes. NAT is a function in the router. Just like the firewall. But still, both are different functions of the router. The firewall filters traffic to the router. NAT is responsible for mapping IP addresses. The reason why unsolicited packets from the internet won't get into the LAN is because NAT cannot deliver those packets and not the firewall rejecting some incoming connection. NAT does not filter. NAT tries to deliver and if it does not know where it drops it. But not because it wants to filter something.
The settings on the router are correct. But as I have mentioned before, forwarding a port does not mean it's open or accessible. There are still other factors which could cause the port to be closed...
Regarding the modem: you can check that if you connect a computer directly to the modem, open a port on the computer and then do the internet port scan again.
I also explained how to check with telnet if TCP port 5060 on the IPPBX is really open or not. Why don't you just do this test? It would be much easier and faster, giving relevant answers. I don't mind whether asterisk usually uses both protocols on 5060 or not. Maybe it does. Maybe not. Maybe it can be configured. Whatever. Enter "telnet 192.168.1.69 5060" into a command prompt window of a computer connected to your LAN and you see if the port is open or not. Then we know something for sure instead of thinking about what should be or should not be...
Also do the same telnet test with port 23 and 80 and then use the internet port scanner to scan for tcp port 23 and tcp port 80. Then we could see if anything goes through or not instead of discussing theory...
I did not say you have to set up a lab setup. I only explained that you were mixing NAT functions and firewall functions of the router. The NAT function may look like some firewall in certain respects but it is still a different function with a completely different purpose.
I also can't say if the IP settings are all correct. Maybe the IP address is correct but the gateway address is not. Or the DNS server.
The subject of this thread is "... or what am I doing wrong?". It's impossible to comment on something if you don't give the details which would allow to verify that you have set it up indeed correct...

  • Wrt54g - does not work at all

    hello,
I have a wrt54g wireless broadband router. When I connect it to my modem and computer, i lose my internet connection.
I used the installation CD and the last step after physicall connecting the router is that the power and an internet light should appear. The only light that stays on is the power light.
I don't know how to troubleshoot this problem.

Make sure the cables used are working fine and then reconfigure the router.

  • WRT54G not working with Satellite internet

    Please help!
I purchased the Linksys WRT54G a few months ago, set up my home network (laptop with wireless running XP, desktop hard wired to router running 2000, and desktop wireless running XP) everything worked great!
I got the internet installed.  We ( the installer and I ) got the internet to work on my laptop, and he left, said the rest is up to me!  I did not think it would be to bad, but I am stuck!!
My laptop no longer connects to the network! - I can ping the WRT54G but can not see any thing else.  I can connect to the internet only if I plug directly into my laptop, if I go into the Linksys it will not work from any computer!  My other two computers still see the network and can talk to one another but not to the laptop.  I can no longer print from the laptop (which I could do before) the printer is off of the 2000 destop, used to work great!
I have tried some things that I seen here on the forms, "cloned the Mac address" "updated the firmware" and "power cycled" until I am blue in the face, but to no avail!
Additional info - There is a Linksys 8 port 10/100 Switch placed after the Satellite modem, to connect some other hard wired pc's in the house.
It goes Satellite modem - Switch - (some computers attached here) - Router - (rest of the PC's attach here).
I hope you can understand my ramblings!
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

Satellite modem: LAN side set to 192.168.1.1 (assumed)
      dhcp enabled: range: 192.168.1.20-200
Switch: if this is an intelligent switch set it to 192.168.1.2
      dhcp: disabled
    Router: set to 192.168.1.3
      dhcp: disabled
If the satellite modem using a different base setting (ie. 192.168.222.1) you must adjust all other values(222) to match.

  • WRT54GS Version 5. Firmware 1.50.9 Apple Computers do not work

Can anyone tell me how to downgrade the firmware in my router. The newest version of the firmware does not work with Apple computers, it works with my windows computers. Apparently this is a known problem with this firmware upgrade.

Unfortunately, the new firmware is only for the WRT54G. You'll find a solution for the WRT54GS here (the short version):
    http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&message.id=16882#M16882
including a source for firmware version 1.50.8 which is what you need for the WRT54GS
If you want the long version, you'll find it here:

  • L2TP Passthrough not working on WRT54GS

I have a VPN server behind my WRT54GS (firmware v7.2.06) which I have no problems connecting to via PPTP.  I cannot however connect with L2TP.  I am certain that an L2TP request is not getting past the router because the connection attempt doesn't even show up in the VPN logs on the server.
IPSec, PPTP ad L2TP Passthoughs are all enabled.  I even setup port forwarding on 1701 UDP and 1723 TCP.  Also have ISAKMP/IKE at port 500, IKE NAT on port 4500 (both UDP) setup to forward.
I would rather be using L2TP for higher security.
I do not see what I am doing wrong here.  Any ideas?

If you are sure that port forwarding rules are properly applied, change the MTU to 1300 and see if it works, if it does not work change the MTU to 1200 and cross check...

  • Comcast Cable Internet not working with router (WRT54G), but network is fine?

My Comcast Cable Internet is not working with my router (WRT54G), but my home network is fine. The internet works without router.
    I have a WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router from Linksys.
I was using Bellsouth DSL Internet up until two weeks ago.
I had my DSL modem connected to my router, and the router let me use the internet and share some files and printers with my laptop upstairs.
A few weeks ago we changed to Comcast cable. The technician came in and connected it himself, but only for the desktop. The internet worked perfectly, and still works perfectly on my desktop (the one downstairs). He didn't really give me any instruction or CD-roms for it.
When I tried connecting my router, the internet stopped working. It was weird because the router worked for the file sharing and printer sharing between both my computers, but the internet didn't work. Although, the light for the internet is lit on the router itself.
I even have this program called "AOL Network Magic" which shows a map of what is connected to the router, and it shows that the router and my laptop and desktop are connected, but then it has an "X" for the internet connection.
I have tried everything. I lost all of my CDs and things that came with Linksys, but I downloaded some guides from the Linksys website and it doesn't really help. I tried something called "NetSet", but after I set everything up it says my router is not compatible or something with NetSet. I read a bunch of FAQs, I tried going to comcast and seeing if they had any FAQS about it, but I can't find anything.
Maybe one of you can help me?
Also, I don't know my modem's IP address. I had it for Bellsouth, and sometimes when I would lose my connection I would go there and click on "reconnect" or something like that.
So the only way I can use the internet is to disconnect everything from my router and connect the ethernet cable directly to the modem.

You may open the web setup utility page of the router by typing its IP address on your browser's address bar. By default, it is 192.168.1.1.  When you're asked for username, you may leave it blank.  For password, its "admin". If in case that does not work, reset your router at the back for 30 secs and do a power cycle again, see if it becomes accessible after that...

  • Only the wireless is not working on WRT54G Router

I have been using this wireless router for a while now. We had a snow storm couple of days ago and since then the wireless portion of it is not working. I have Vonage and other power adapters connected through the other ports. All of them work fine except for the wireless. I have been trying on 2 laptops and the cell phone but had no luck even after doing  a hard reset on the router. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Snow storms do not affect wireless connections. We have close to a meter of snow on the ground.  Temp -22 with windchill -30 does not affect my wireless connection on a WRT54G router.  You may have had a power faillure or power surge that killed your router.  Make sure your wireless is set to enable,  Use a unique name for your network.  Do not use Linksys as your network name. Enable the wireless switch on your laptop.

  • Port forwarding not working on WRT54G v5 Firmware Version: v1.02.2

    Hi
Yesterday i updated firmware on my WRT54G v5 from v1.00.1 to v1.02.2 and now port forwarding does not work.
I have 2 PCs connected to my router. Both PCs have static ip  (192.168.1.103 & 192.168.1.105). DHCP server in the router is ofcourse disabled.
For some reason i can not get port forwarding it to work. The weird thing is that
ALL requests are now forwarded to 105 regardless how i configure.
    * I have set up different port forwarding rules that points to my 103 PC.
    * I have put the 103 PC in DMZ.
    * I have disabled DMZ and removed all port forward rules.
Still ALL requests are forwarded to 105??
What i am doing wrong? Why does it default send everything to 105?
Note that I had no problems with port forwarding before the upgrade.
    Everything was working fine.
I upgraded because i wanted a fix for "DynDNS abusive updates".
I have seearched the forum for tips and tried setting MTU size to 1396 and shutting down my entire network and then restart everything. Also tried to uncheck "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" but still same behaviour.
    I really need help!!
    Thanks
    D_M

well it is weird...anyways try resetting the router back to factory default settings and reconfigure it...check whether it works for you or not.

I am at my wits end.Comcast just changed my old RCA cable modem for an Arris Telephony modem.(I had Comcast phone service added)The tech that did the install said the wireless G network was all up and running. (My 3 other computers and printer) Well lo and behold the network does not work at all. I only get internet through my wired computer and cannot access my router through 192.168.1.1 anymore.I tried powering down the router and modem by holding the reset for 30 seconds and unplugging them. Any help GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanx!

ok man, good new and bad news. Good news, i know what ur goin through cause i have the exact same problem. Tried a new router too (wrt54g to no avail). Bad news i have no idea how to fix it. I've tried everything. Linksys tech support hasn't emailed back after their originaly fix which did nothing. Please PM me if you get any ideas. Ps Have you noticed that when the setup page times out you can't get an ip wirelessly. Also, my temporary fix is power cycling. Somtimes it works for a few days, or sometimes a few hours.
