WRT54G Ver 1.1 Firmware Upgrade

I was experiencing some connection problems that were causing me to cycle the power on my router a few times a week. I decided to upgrade the firmware to 4.21.1 hoping to resolve this issue. The firmware upgrade completed and all configuration settings were put back as I had before the upgrade.
Since the update, I cannot connect to the internet through my DSL when connecting through the router. I can connect to the internet when my computer is directly connected to the modem. I called Linksys and I was told to reset the router three times. Had no results.
Can anyone help me out with this? Or is there a place where I can download the old firmware that I originally had?
I have a WRT54G ver 1.1 and Bellsouth DSL
Thanks

--Update--
I solved the problem. The Bellsouth DSL modem is in bridge mode after it is either reset (hard button) or configured via the web utility.
WITHOUT connecting the router to the modem, configure the router to be PPPoE insted of DHCP. If the router is connected to the modem while still in DHCP mode, the modem will assume the router is a computer. This will kick the modem out of bridge mode.
So the steps to solve the problem are:
1) Disconnect ethernet between router and modem.
2) Reset modem / put in bridge mode.
3) Connect to router via web utility and configure PPPoE settings.
4) Connect router and DSL modem via ethernet cable.

  • WRT54G v8.2 failed firmware upgrade problem

Today I tried to upgrade my WRT54G v8.2 router to the latest firmware from Linksys. But the upgrade kept repeating itself every time when the progress bar reached about 75%. This lasted more than 30 minutes and I had to stopped the upgrade. Then the router stopped working. I've reset and hard reset the router. I also tried the tftp method to upgrade the firmware again. But the problem is still there. When I ping 192.168.1.1, I constantly get the "Destination host unreachable" message. Anyone could help me fix this problem? The power light and the ethernet port light are always on. Is there any way to fix the problem? Any information is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

  • WRK54G Ver. 1 Firmware Upgrade

Hi. I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on the wireless router in the subject line. I assume it is a ver. 1 as there is NO ver. number on the router itself. On the support page, there are 2 download files - I downloaded the binary (WRK54G_V1.55.02_fw.bin), opened up the admin settings, clicked the option to upgrade the firmware and got an error in engrish -
"Upgrade action is not finish!! Upgrade file pattern error"
This happens every time I try to do the upgrade. What the hell is the problem???
Any and all help is appreciated, this is driving me nuts...

Make sure you have downloaded the right firmware of your router. If you are sure that you have downloaded the right firmware of your router and you are facing that problem, then you can try upgrading the firmware of your router using TFTP tool. You can Download TFTP.exe from ftp.linksys.com/pub/network and save that TFTP file on your computer.
Double click the tftp.exe file and click run :
For Server- Enter the IP Address of the router that you assigned.  By default, the router is 192.168.1.1...
For Password- Enter the password you assigned the router. By default, the router’s password is “admin”.
For File- Click the triple “…” button and browse for the .bin firmware file...
Click Upgrade button to start upgrading.  A progress bar should show up to show the progress.
Once the Upgrade is done press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • WRT54G erratic connection after firmware upgrade

I upgraded my firmware last week to v8.00.6 and now our internet connection is erratic for both wired and wireless connections. We are constantly having to reload each site because the first attempt fails to connect or only partially loads (http://192.168.1.1/ also fails to connect frequently).
I've reset and rebooted the router and tweaked the MTU settings.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks!

Tech support had me change the MTU to 1492. So far, so good. We'll see if it lasts.

  • Access restrictions w/ WRT54G Ver 8 (Firmware 8.0.5).......

It seems that Access Restrictions are a bit of a problem w/ the Linksys routers. Well, here's my story to go with the crowd. Hopefully, someone at Linksys / Cisco can provide a solution.
I am wanting to set up access restrictions on my Linksys WRT54G Ver. 8 (Firmware 8.0.5). Following the "instructions", I built my access restrictions as follows:
    Policy 1
    Enabled
    Named for my PC
Edited List of PC's - inserted my NIC MAC address and saved the settings
    Set to "Allow" Internet Access
    Everyday
    24 Hrs per day
    Saved Settings
    Policy 2
    Enabled
    Named for my daughters laptop
Edited List of PC's - inserted her Wireless NIC MAC address and saved the settings
    Set to "Allow" Internet Access
    Sun - Thur: 07:00 AM - 09:30 PM
    Fri - Sat: 07:00 AM - 10:00 PM
    Saved Settings
    Policy 3
Enabled Named for my wife's desktop
Edited List of PC's - inserted her NIC MAC address and saved the settings
    Set to "Allow" Internet Access
    Sun - Sat: 06:00 AM - 11:00 PM
    Saved Settings
....then, I reset the router. Once up, I tried access from each PC...nothing. Couldn't get out.
Thus, I went back into the Linksys set up, disabled the access restrictions. Viola ! I'm back on-line with all three PC's.
Checked around the forum and found that some people had built a primary policy that included all of their PC MAC's or IP addresses and was "Enabled" and set to "Deny" Internet access 24/7. From there, they built out their access restrictions and, supposedly, they worked.
I tried that as well...deleted all the access restrictions. Reset the router and went through the entire router setup to be on the safe side. Built the primary "Deny" access restriction then my other three PC restrictions. And....it still didn't work.
Thus, I would really like to get this working so I can limit my daughters access. It's interfering with her school work so I want to lock her down a little bit. Friends are important to her but I've stressed that her education is even more important.
Thus, if Linksys themselves or someone on the forums can provide an answer, excellent ! If not, I'll look into another router that can do the job. I'd rather not do that, but if the Linksys won't perform this function, I'll have to. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Thanks for the reply. I deleted all profiles and built just the two specific for my daughters laptop and one for my wife's PC. My wife's PC is running XP SP3. It follows the access restriction policy with no problems. My daughters laptop is running Vista Home Premium. With the policies active, her connectivity was sporadic for about an hour before it just finally shut off her connectivity completely...well before the policy was supposed to.
Thus, I'm now thinking that thismay be a Vista problem to an extent as well(Gee....who would have thought that !?!?!?!?).
I disabled the IP 6 protocol just as a precaution. Still no access. And when I disable the policies on the Linksys, she's back in service.
    Any further suggestions are appreciated.

  • I (mistakenly) updated firmware of my WRT54G Ver 1 with f...

I (mistakenly) updated firmware of my WRT54G Ver 1 with firmware V 7. The router is still working fine but now I have this problem: when I open the router for setting, the menu is unreadable and I cannot acces the menu. How can I repair it, or how to rollback? Thanks for anyone who can help.

Read the support articles for your router. Look for the article regarding a "blinking power light". It describes how to flash your router through tftp instead of the web interface. Follow the instructions and load the correct firmware with tftp to the router.

  • WRT54G ver.6 no WLAN after firmware upgrade

I just did a manual firmware upgrade for the router (WRT54Gv6 v1.02.2_fw)... when I went to rest it by holding down the rest button for 30 seconds, nothing appeared to happen. The light for the WLAN is now out. When I go to directly connect it to a computer, it says 'limited connectivity' local only. The Power, 1, and Internet lights still blink. I cannot access the web browser utility at 192.168.1.1 (nothing loads). Resetting still doesn't appear to do anything (lights don't flash off or change or anything)... Any ideas?

Open a DOS window and do "ping 192.168.1.1". If you get replies, there's still a chance. If it times out or any other error message then it can't be helped. If the router is less than 3 years old, call linksys for a replacement.
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • Firmware Upgrade for WRT54G

I have download latest firmware Version 8, I completed the firmware upgrade successfully, however on the router page right on the top it still show the earlier
    version 1.02.
How do I checked whether I upgraded to Version 8. I have followed the firmware upgrade procedure and try the next lower version 6 but still show Version 1.02.
Is my router faulty, as it revert back to factory default after 1 month of new router
    configuration.
    Cheers!

On the tag all it means is that you have the version 5 of that router.  Linksys will make them diferently (different chips etc.. etc..).  Now the firmware version is the version of (software) installed on the chip in the router.  If you tag says you have a version 5 you need to install the firmware for a version 5 router.  The latest firmware is version 1.02.2 which came out 7/02/2007 for the version 5 router.
Here is a link to the WRT54G v.5 router.

  • Firmware Upgrade for a WRT54G v8.1 Router

I just resolved a connectivity problem by downloading and installing the binary
    file "FW_WRT54G_8.1.09.02_US_20071227.bin".
After this upgrade, I was somewhat confused by the new displayed Firmware Version under Router Status in administration.  My new version is displayed as
"8.01.09 build 01 Dec. 27,2007".  The date seems to agree with the downloaded binary file name.  The Release Notes for this latest firmware defines this download as "Last Firmware Version: 8.1.09 build2".  There is an associated Firmware Date of April 10th, 2008.  Do I have the correct file downloaded and installed for the WRT54G v8.1 Router or is there something else that I need to do to complete the firmware upgrade?
There is one difference that I have noticed in my new configuration that is somewhat strange, as well.  I no longer have the ability to use "MAC Address Clone" in Setup.  It is grayed out. Please advise whether this is normal with this new Firmware.

Yes, I am quite certain that the firmware was upgraded from version 8.01.08 build 02 Oct. 26, 2007.  The Router was reset after the upgrade and completely reconfigured.  The "MAC Clone" option remains grayed out after several attempts, but all other features are functional.  I have gained connectivity by this firmware upgrade to a Time Warner - Road Runner, Broadband System.  I may still want the MAC Clone feature in the future.
    Thank You!

  • The firmware upgrade file is not supported on this hardware version MI424-WR Hardware Ver. C

Hello - I have been troubleshooting for quite some time a problem that only occurs on my wireless devices.  8 out of 10 times I fail to obtain a IP address from my MI424-WR.  My connection to the device is successful, however, DHCP times out.  I have connected to many other wireless routers in other locations in the last 4 weeks and have isolated my issue to my connection with my FIOS router.  That is to say that when I am elsewhere I do not have this problem.  I contacted support today, and the tech I spoke to was very nice and also clueless.  What is the latest/current hardware ver of the MI424-WR Verizon is shipping?  The tech said he could not tell me what ver the one he had in a lab was.  If l log into the router under firmware upgrade I notice the message in my subject.  I have had FIOS here with the same router since 9/2007.  Any help would be apreciated.

That brings up something I have been curious about...could you see if this might work for you?
-First and foremost, log into the router
-At the top click Wireless Settings
-Go into basic security settings on the left and change the channel to 11 (yes, I know this doesn't work for all but please read on) and apply
-Now back on the left side menu choose advanced security settings, enter 802.11b/g Mode
---Honestly, most people should need G only by now, but choose what you need here (avoid mixed) and apply
-Go back onto the left menu and try advanced wireless settings again but this time choose "Other Advanced Wireless Options" at the bottom
-Change MTU to "manual" and enter in "1492" in the field it provides and apply
-Now at the top right go into advanced settings
-Click on the link for "System settings"
-In here UNCHECK the "Enable Logging" and "Low Capacity Notification" options and apply
I don't think they would be able to tell you which version is being shipped, because I am sure the new routers are coming with the new firmware and the old they send out first.  But yeah, give that a shot and see if that does anything to help your wireless machines connect.  I am kind of curious if that will change anything.

  • Having problem with firmware upgrade on WRT54G V8

i have searched the forums but havent found an answer. i just got a WRT54G V8 router and was about to update the firmware. i downloaded the .bin file and went to my router ip addy and then to the firmware upgrade tab but when i went to click the browse button nothing happened. does anyone know whats wrong?

If you are using the wireless computer then,do not use it to make any changes or upgrading the firmware on the router.Use the wired computer. If you are using the wired computer then, try to use the different browser (preferably IE)or different computer.
If that does not make any difference then,hard-reset the router and try to upgrade the firmware.
