WRT54G ver. 6 locking computer after starting online games.

I just recently bought a wireless router for my new Nintendo Wii. I got the wireless router up and working perfectly fine. I can even get on the internet from my Wii. My computer browses the internet completly fine. I probably should add that my computer is connected directly into the router. That connection is not wireless, only the Wii is.
That is, until I start World of Warcraft(WoW). The game starts, and it isnt until I start loading my character that the problems arise. My computer freezes for about 20 seconds, then unfreezes for about 5 seconds. Then it freezes again. So, during one of the unfreezes I close WoW. The freezing cycle remains for another minute or so. Then I get control of the computer again.
After this happens, my internet connection completely goes down. I have to disable my local area connection, then re-enable it. Then my internet comes back up and works fine.
Does anyone have any solutions? I am considering taking it back and switching it for a different brand.Message Edited by Neo9900 on 12-16-200609:20 AM

The version 5 & 6 have a tendancie to freeze or lockup when they get swamped with packets. I think it has a lot to do with the reduced memory. This forum and many others have people posting with the same problems with the same routers. If you were to stay with Linsys I would advise you to look at the WRT54GLv1.1. Has twice the RAM and Flash Memory so it can handle the load.
I have a WRT54GL and WRT54Gv3. I can download torrents, play Call of Duty while one son is playing XBox and the other plays WoW on his desktop and the wife is surfing wirelessly..

Num lock problems after start

I have just startet my HP Pavilion 500-106eo today with windows 8.1. The problem is, that num lock is off after start and restart, and bios is set correctly to on and value in H-key is 2 ( num lock on after start) I have tried to shut down fast start up and it didn't work either. Eskil4930, welcome to the forum.
The reason that you can't change "fast startup" is because you have to click on the phrase at the top of the page "Change settings that are currently unavailable". Once you click on it the settings that you weren't able to change will become available. Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended) and close the Control Panel and restart the computer.

WRT54G Ver.2 Trying to set up Online gaming.

I will give an exact detail on what I am trying to do, so it will help you all determine my problem.
I have a Wireless WRT54G ver.2 router and my buddy has the same type of set-up.
I am trying to set up an online game with my friend playing Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour. When we set-up our game, both of our IP's are the 192.168.1.XXX. I try to connect to his I.P., but it tells me "Connection timed out". We have tried to disconnect the router on his end, and it still gives the same error. When I go into the options in the game, it says my I.P is 192.168.1.100. How can we connect if we are both using routers that have this similar IP. It is a pain in the @$$ to have to disconnect both of our routers just to get a few games in. So this is my situation, and I hope this is enough info to help me out. Thanks in advance. ~Donte

You need to forward ports (by doing port forwarding on your router) first so it can pass the router's firewall...and by the way, the IP address the game is referring to is the public "Internet" IP address which is on the status tab of your router. For the forwarding instructions click here

WRT54G v 8.00.2 Constant Disconnects - Online Games

Yesterday, I bought the Linksys WRT54G v.8 to replace my aging Netgear wireless router. My kids both play World of Warcraft and have complained for months about constantly getting disconnected. We all thought it was the Netgear router. Well, if anything, it's worse now. I've tried several times to explain the situation to Linksys Tech Support via Live Chat but I get disconnected. I even spoke to my cable company (Time Warner RoadRunner) and they wanted me to turn off all firewalls (including the one on the router). I've turned off all the software firewalls but not the hardware one on the WRT54G. I've been doing some research, trolling around on the web trying to find a similar situation. Basically, about every 20-30 minnutes, our internet connection resets and it takes a minute or two to reconnect. Devastating in an online game. I turned on QoS (something I didn't have on the NetGear) and selected the Optimize for Gaming and entered the ports for the various online games. But I am still experiencing disconnects. I even changed the MTU from 1500 to 1400 but I eventually put it back to 1500 because it messed with my webserver. I am not a network engineer by any means but I and my children are extremely frustrated with this whole situation. Any suggestions? Any utilties I can run on my LAN to sniff out what is resetting my connection? Thanks in advance, Jon

All this trouble I went through and I was right to begin with. The cable modem went bad. It had been going bad for months! I swapped it out the day after Labor Day and my Internet connection was faster than ever and completely reliable.
Too bad no one responded to my original post though. Kind of disappointing.

Photoshop CS (ver 8) locks up at start up screen.

Computer is about 6 month old running Vista. Installed and used program without a problem for last 6 months now it begins to load at the start up screen and then freezes. Task manager says "not responding." Re-booted several times however locks up at the same point near the end of the start-up screen load. Any help would be appreciated.

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.
(CS is not supported on Vista.)

WRT54G ver.6 no WLAN after firmware upgrade

I just did a manual firmware upgrade for the router (WRT54Gv6 v1.02.2_fw)... when I went to rest it by holding down the rest button for 30 seconds, nothing appeared to happen. The light for the WLAN is now out. When I go to directly connect it to a computer, it says 'limited connectivity' local only. The Power, 1, and Internet lights still blink. I cannot access the web browser utility at 192.168.1.1 (nothing loads). Resetting still doesn't appear to do anything (lights don't flash off or change or anything)... Any ideas?

Open a DOS window and do "ping 192.168.1.1". If you get replies, there's still a chance. If it times out or any other error message then it can't be helped. If the router is less than 3 years old, call linksys for a replacement.
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

WRT54G Ver. 7 Lockup

I have the same problem as many of you with the WRT54G VER 7 locking up and requiring a restart. I also had a Ver 2 that worked for over a year without any lockups. But in Florida We have lots of lightning and it destroyed my router so had to purchase a new one, which unfortunately was a ver 7. I hope linksys comes up with a firmware fix for this problem.

First, be sure to pick the linksys site for your country. Not all hardware versions are available in all countries. I think the v7 firmware is available for the UK.
Otherwise, if there is no firmware posted on the downloads page of linksys there is no firmware update available, yet.

WRT54G ver. 6 can no longer connect to the internet after reset

I reset my WRT54G ver. 6 to clear the password, and now I can no longer connect to the internet with it. I can see the router itself from my PC, but that is all. I've followed the directions here for connection problems, but I can't seem to get an IP Address for it in the Web Configuration tool. Anybody have any thoughts?

Since you reset your router, you need to reconfigure it back again. try the online utility that automates the configuration. download Easy Link Connect utility at www.linksys.com/connect then download "Netset" and follow instructions.
if not Easy Link connect didnt work then you need to do the configuration manually.
1. check physical connection modem should be connected wired to internet port of the router then PC to numbered ports of the router.
2. Brighthouse i believe is cable connection, right? try power cycle your devices (turn off modem and router then turn on modem 1st then router next). check if your online.
3. if not. check PC ip. click "start" then "run" type in "cmd" then press "OK". the command prompt should pop-up. type "ipconfig" and check IP and gateway. you should be getting an ip: 192.168.1.x and gateway: 192.168.1.1
4. access router. open IE, then type in http://192.168.1.1 on address bar.
5. you will be prompted with username and PW. "admin" is the default password. on setup, just below are subtabs. select "MAC address clone". in it, set "mac clone" to "enable" then click on "clone" then "save settings".
6. power cycle devices again. try to go online
note: if you dont have latest firmware. try updating if needed

Since the last Firefox update my computer automatically goes online at start up and I do NOT want to do this, so how can I discontinue?

I've searched through my system preferences and Firefox preferences and both helps and cannot figure out how to prevent the computer from automatically going online (using Firefox) when I start it up. I do not want this to happen because the computer will be online when I am not using it; this poses security problems. In addition, this happened after the latest automatic update of Firefox and makes me wonder if someone is invading my privacy. I only want to go online when I open Firefox.

Uncheck Edit > Preferences > Store > Show iTunes in the cloud purchases
The correct way to move iTunes from one computer to another is to copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer (or backup of the old computer) to the new computer. This will make everything in iTunes on the new computer exactly as it was on the old computer.

WRT54G ver. 2 stopped working online

Hello, just recently my wireless router (WRT54G ver. 2) stopped working online. Two nights ago I believe it stopped. I can still go online when I plug my computer directly into my modem (Linksys BEFCMU10 ver. 4).
~ Both of my wireless adapters (WUSB54G ver. 4) still can connect to the router, of course they don't recieve internet either.
~ I verified everything was plugged in, and nobody unplugged it the day it stopped working.

did you had a power surge or thunder storm in your area? coz sometimes it can affect the settings on the router
have you tried unplugging both your modem and router for a few minutes and plugging them back in? were you still unable to get internet back?

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

What you are seeing is a kernel panic, often but not always connected with a hardware or peripheral issue, so, unplug everything except mouse and keyboard, reboot and hold the shift key as soon as your hear the chime, continue holding it until you see the Apple Icon and spinning progress indicator, then post back.
It will take noticeably longer than normal to start.

Firefox shuts my computer down a few minutes after starting it.

It's real simple for anybody but people at Mozilla. MY COMPUTER SHUTS DOWN a few minute after starting FireFox. The Firefox website is broken, and nobody pays attention to anything. In plain english, everything Mozilla bites. Got it now? Not likely...

The entire computer crashes? I don't think I've ever seen a case where Firefox crashes the operating system. Could you give us more details?
* Does the computer turn off, or do you get some error screen, or does the entire system freeze?
* Are you usually on the same site when it happens?
* Do you have any add-ons installed?
* When was the last time you scanned your computer for malware?
