WRT54G(ver.6) not broadcasting internet signal anymore.

I've been using my router (WRT54G ver.6) for almost 2 years now with only a few minor hiccups along the way. Just recently the router won't send the internet signal anymore. I can still connect to the wireless network and use the printer, which is connected to port 1.
Connected computer directly to the cable modem - Internet works fine.
Wired modem to router then wired modem to computer(tried all ports) - still no internet.
Checked all my cables - they're fine.
All the lights on the router are responding appropriately. I now know that the problem is only the wireless router.
I've tried practically EVERYTHING!!; holding the reset button for 30secs - 2mins, unplugging the router for days on end, upgrading then downgrading then upgrading firmwares again, jumping on one leg while holding my breath, and all different combinations in between!!!
I have the latest firmware and even tried using a previous firmware but still no go.
Also tried the "Mac Address Clone" and still didn't have IS/subnet numbers for the internet under the "Status" tab. (I don't know if I ever had numbers there).
My ISP is Comcast.
I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

Configuration for cable connection:-
Before doing the following steps, you have to connect the modem to the
router's Internet Port and the computer to the Ethernet Port Number 1.
Step 01 : - Reset the router
1. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
2. Then, unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for
another 30 Seconds.
3. Plug back the power back in, and keep holding down the reset button
for 30 Seconds.
4. Release the reset button.
Step 02 : To Configure the router for Wired Connection.
Please access the setup page of the router by launching an Internet
Explorer and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as “admin "" all in lower cases and then
click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
- Click on enable
- Click on clone your PC's MAC button and then click on the Save
Settings button.

  • AirPort express not recognising internet signal from cable modem

my airport express is not recognising the internet connection. It is connected directly via a cable modem (which has full strength when connected directly to the PC) and when networked to the PC it shows in airport utility but when configuring it returns an error message saying it is not recognising an internet signal. the unit can't be faulty as I have just replaced this one with a brand new replacement and the problem is the same. Is there a setting i have missed which is not allowing the signal through from the modem ?

It is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking gear whenever you change network hardware. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details on how to do so.

Any chance you have an XBox connected to this router? I've got three friends all with WRT54G ver 8 routers with XBoxes connected and it almost seems like something is trying to hack the security password. I'm searching to see if there is then a lock out which requires a manual reset. It just started happening around Christmas time.

  • Do imacs (w/ built in wireless) broadcast internet signal?

In other words, does the new iMac have its own built in router. I am a little confused by the apple/store online description of its built-in wireless feature.
If an iMac is connected to the internet by wire, will the iMac itself broadcast the internet signal so that I can use my notebook wirelessly? Or do I still need to buy Airport to broadcast this signal?
    Thanks much for your time.

You can do Internet Sharing via the Airport card in your Mac.
Here are Apple's instructions for Internet Sharing

  • My computer can't find the Airport Express signals anymore

I'm having some weird issues with my MacBook connecting to my Airport Express at home. 2 years ago I installed my new Airport Express and made a WPA Personal security password as recommended. Everything worked fine until Sunday my computer seemed to not find the signals anymore. I have tried all types of problem solving from the book and other places, but nothing seemed to help.
The weird stuff is that my other 2 Mac computers have no problems connecting. The others the signals fine.
My computer picks up all other wireless signals from the neighborhood.
How can this be? I did nothing but turn my computer on and off and suddenly all "domestic signals" are non traceable any longer?
I hope someone can help me; I am, as you probably can understand not a computer literate exactly.

I have to switch between my internet 2Wire network and the AX base station network I created.
If you configure the AirPort Express (AX) to join the wireless network provided by the 2wire you won't need to switch back and forth. There will only be one wireless network.
My husband wanted to print with his MacBook Pro the same way, and so we tried to configure the base station on his computer.
That was not needed. Once the base station is configured, any wireless client can join the network without needing to run any AirPort software.

  • My router is not broadcasting

So I set the routers up properly and I have internet on my home computer but my router is not broadcasting a signal for my laptop to pick up. What do I do?

    Andy,
I have that router and set it up on WPA/PSK. You do need to use another computer b/c when you save the changes you are making, you are changing the connection you are currently using. You need to make the changes from another machine so all the changes can take place.
Maybe you have tried this, but...
You log in to the router and look in the far left menu and go to "Wireless Settings" under "Setup" and then in the center window choose WPA/PSK (not WEP, at least it didn't work for me). After you choose the password you save changes. The right column has instructions, but they weren't always clear to me. I had to mess with it a few times. I also chose a name for my network b/c I can see 5-6 networks in my neighborhood and want to find mine right away.
I don't know enough about Access List to answer that. I assume it means you need the MAC (not Mac!) addresses for any computers you want to have access, as opposed to giving out (or keeping secret) a password as the means of connecting.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • How to make 2nd Airport Express to broadcast wireless signal?

Hi im absolutely lost as to what to do. Currently I have an Airport Extreme which creates my network and two Air Port Express (APX 1 and 2) configured to extend my wireless network. The issue I have is that APX 2 will not broadcast the signal it gets from APX 1 and thus none of my wireless devices can connect to APX 2 even though the green light indicator shows on all the devices and in the Airport Utillity App. However if I move APX 2 within the signal range of the AE, only then will APX 2 broadcast a signal, and allowing my devices to connect to it. I would attempt to illustrate what I mean below, with Example A - showing APX 2 NOT broadcasting a signal and Example B-  showing APX 2 broadcast a signal.
            Eg. A                                                      Eg. B
          Airport Extreme                                      Airport Extreme
            Airport X 1                                  APX1                     APX 2
            Airport X  2

The bottom line here is that the wireless signal can only be extended one time from the AirPort Extreme.....if you are trying to extend using wireless only.
Apple's "extend" feature works like the hub and spokes of a wheel. In your case, the AirPort Extreme would be the "hub" and AX1 and AX2 are located at the ends of two separate "spokes".
AX1 and AX2 communicate directly to the "hub"....not to another device at the end of another "spoke".
Another way of saying the same thing is that AX1 and AX2 must both be located closer to the AirPort Extreme than they are to each other if you want AX1 and AX2 to both "extend" the wireless signal.

  • WRT54G ver. 6 Connected to access point and internet, but cannot access the web

I can connect to the access point and it shows that I an connected to the internet.  However when I open a bowser it says page cannot be displayed!  Signal is very good to excellent.  Also, I have been using it all day and it was working fine, until I shutdown.  When I booted back up it stopped working.  The internet is working!  I have XBOX Live working right now.  Just not the computer.  Any Help would be appreciated.

Hi... it seems that your Wireless adapter on does get a IP address or DNS no after reboot. Try assigning a Static IP address and DNS on the Wireless Adapter. Also try to update the drivers for that wireless adapter.

  • WRT54GS-Ver. 6 - Never shows that it has internet connection

    Hi,
I have been trying to resolve a problem and I can't no matter what I do.
I have Model # WRT54GS - Ver. 6, I have had it over a year and the problem started a year ago when I bought it so my daughter could connect her computer wirelessly with mine.  It was working just fine and then it started disconnecting one computer when the other was on, the two of them could never be on at the same time, anyway my daughter moved out and I put the router away not worried anymore about the problem.  5 days ago I bought a Dell Inspirion Laptop with Vista and reconnected the router to my main computer (Dell Dimension 3000 with Windows XP)
Here is the problem -  I can only get connectivity to one computer at a time or neither of them will connect, when I check out the advisor it ALWAYS shows up as if there is no connction to the internet even if I can get on with one of the computers.  I have a Touchstone telephony ARRIS modem with Cox Internet (always been the same) I have tried to download the updates for the router but I can never open it as it saves as  a VLC media file(.bin)  and if I try to "unzip" it , it says "cannot open file as archive"  always.
I have reset, rebooted, un plugged all connections and I don't know what else to do. I have had about 4 diffferent encryption keys already when I have to disconnect. I have also tried removing it from my computer and re-installing .
    Can any one help PLEASE
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, now I think I have a bigger problem,
I did as posted from "HELM" and downloaded firmware and everything downloaded fine thanks to the instructions given, but after rebooting and unplugging, waiting 30 sec. and replugging the power, now easylink advisor tells me that it cannot find the router...I tried disconnecting the power to the modem and router as it indicates and then waitng the proper amount of time for each one and  reconnecting, but to no avail.
So I diconnected the router completely and connected directly to the modem to be able to write back and ask what can I do now that the router is now longer recognized?
Should I just trash it and buy another one because there is no hope for this one.
    Thanks in advance.

  • WRT54G ver. 6 can no longer connect to the internet after reset

I reset my WRT54G ver. 6 to clear the password, and now I can no longer connect to the internet with it. I can see the router itself from my PC, but that is all. I've followed the directions here for connection problems, but I can't seem to get an IP Address for it in the Web Configuration tool. Anybody have any thoughts?

Since you reset your router, you need to reconfigure it back again. try the online utility that automates the configuration. download Easy Link Connect utility at www.linksys.com/connect then download "Netset" and follow instructions.
if not Easy Link connect didnt work then you need to do the configuration manually.
    1. check physical connection modem should be connected wired to internet port of the router then PC to numbered ports of the router.
    2. Brighthouse i believe is cable connection, right? try power cycle your devices (turn off modem and router then turn on modem 1st then router next). check if your online.
    3. if not. check PC ip. click "start" then "run" type in "cmd" then press "OK". the command prompt should pop-up. type "ipconfig" and check IP and gateway. you should be getting an ip: 192.168.1.x and gateway: 192.168.1.1
    4. access router. open IE, then type in http://192.168.1.1 on address bar.
    5. you will be prompted with username and PW. "admin" is the default password. on setup, just below are subtabs. select "MAC address clone". in it, set "mac clone" to "enable" then click on "clone" then "save settings".
    6. power cycle devices again. try to go online
note: if you dont have latest firmware. try updating if needed

  • WRT54G Ver 6 Internet connectivity problems

    Alright so here's the deal.
I'm on Windows XP with Verizon DSL (in Orange County, CA) that uses a Westell modem (just modem, not modem and router combo).
I have the old Linksys BEFSR41 v.2 router that runs with everything fine.
I just bought the WRT54G Version 6 and connected everything up as needed.  Powered things down and then back up.  And it could not detect an Internet connection, but I could access the router via web browser.
    - Ran the Setup CD and it couldn't find the internet.
    - Upgraded the firmware.
    - I searched the forums and did not find a successful solution.
    - Called my ISP to confirm it is DHCP.
    - Talked to Linksys Support via phone and he had me do all sorts of stuff.  Releasing, Renewing, Local IP Address changes, pinging, MAC, etc.  All this to try to get some sort of IP address with the internet.
    - Tried it with a diff WRT54G Ver 6 (Yeah.  I bought two.  One for me, and one to bring to my parents), and it still didn't work.  (Can't be that both the routers I got are defective.)
    - Searched forums some more and ran across the EasyLink program.  I used it, and it tells me my freaking Wired adaptor is disabled.  Where do I enable it?  Can't be my computer because it all works fine with the old Linksys router I got....or could it?
    - Powered down and back up in many different combinations.
Did all that to no avail.  Anyone got a solution?  I couldn't find anything that worked.  I'm about to go return this and get something else tomorrow.  Maybe if I wake up, there will be a workable solution that is replied back.
Thanks in advance to all those that tried to help and posted something, or didn't post due to having no solution.
    - Chris

Yup Yup Yup.  I tried the WAN address thing and it still didn't work.
I was about to pack everything up and go return the stupid thing.  BUT.....I decided to talk to Verizon DSL support since I hadn't tried that.
    They helped me out good!!!
    Here's the solution.
I plugged in the old router, the BEF, and went to Status to click the DHCP Release.  Then unplugged the old router.
Then per Verizon DSL support instruction....powered down the modem, then powered it back up and waited for lights to stabilize.  Then I plugged in the new router, the WRT.  And went to Status (IP was already autofilled, with internet working) but I still clicked DHCP Renew.
    It all works.  WOOOOOO!!!!
By the way.  The WAN address thing is important.  I went to it on the new, WORKING router and disabled the WAN address.  The internet stopped working.  I re-entered in the WAN address I copied and the internet worked again.  So......yeah.
I hope for all those out there having the same problems as me, and without a solution, see this thread and try this.
Thanks again for your guys' help.
    **edit**
By the way.  Is there a way to stop my internet to being a stickler to this MAC address?  I'm just curious.  I'm gonna go google MAC address and see if I can read anything useful.

  • WRT54G ver.6 Admin page not available

Hi, Two days ago I saw on linksys website new firmware and decided to upgrade.I guess the installation went wrong, and my router WRT54G ver.6 ended up faulty. The problem is that I cannot access the router's Admin page (http://192.168.1.1), the browser gives me message "connection interrupted - The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." The power light on the router when it starts is steady, no blinking. I can ping the router and as far as I can see it's fully functional in its default mode. I can access internet via cable and wifi. The ssid is Linksys.
I tried all kinds of hard reset, I guess evertything I could find on your forum.
Is there hope for my router or is it "Bricked"?
    Thanks for your Help
    S...

    Hard reset your router -
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Also make sure that your computer is set to 'Obtain IP Address Automatically' , disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer before trying to access the setup page...
If it does not work try connecting a different computer/laptop to the router's ethernet port and see if you can open the setup page...
