WRT54G Ver. 8.0 Not working

I am having a problem with my wireless router. I put my modem on standby when I am not on the computer and have yet to have any problems until today with my router.
When my router is powered on the 4 ethernet port and internet lights remain solid, while the power light does not come on at all. My modem does not receive activity so I am unavailable to get online. I have tried power cycling, resetting, etc. I have the latest firmware upgrade to date. When the router is plugged up, if you get closely you can hear a small tick within the router itself. I have yet to find a solution and need help with this. The router is only a couple months old
What could this problem be? How can it be fixed?

try resetting the router, but with that kind of situation were in all the lights are solidly lit up, theres nothing more to do but to replace that with a new one..
1.) If normal resetting wont work, try doing this instead.
→ while holding the reset button unplug the router from the power source still holding the reset button for 5 seconds, then connect it back to the power source, tstill holding it for 10 more seconds then release, and if still does not work.
BUY A NEW ONE.. that device is already defective..

  • WRT54G ver. 2 stopped working online

Hello, just recently my wireless router (WRT54G  ver. 2) stopped working online. Two nights ago I believe it stopped. I can still go online when I plug my computer directly into my modem (Linksys BEFCMU10  ver. 4).
~ Both of my wireless adapters (WUSB54G  ver.  4) still can connect to the router, of course they don't recieve internet either.
~ I verified everything was plugged in, and nobody unplugged it the day it stopped working.
If you have any questions, please ask.
    Thank you.

did you had a power surge or thunder storm in your area? coz sometimes it can affect the settings on the router
have you tried unplugging both your modem and router for a few minutes and plugging them back in? were you still unable to get internet back?

  • Wrt54g v7 DHCP does not work on *some* winXP machines with WEP key enabled

    HI,
I enabled WEP encryption in an existing network yesterday.
Out of the 10 machines on the network, all WinXP & 1 Kubuntu, 3 XP machines can not get an IP address from the DHCP server. They can happily connect with a fixed IP adresss. All machines are of different makes, 2 of them with XPSP3, different wireless hardware cards.
The firmware is 7.001, i read about 7.004 and even 7.2 on other sites than this one. (but can only find 7.2 as a download)
I am in Juba, Sudan, so cant really go to the shop and buy a new  one when I upload the wrong firmware.
Does anyone have a clue what I can do, except removing the 'security' from the router that is connected to a 500USD/Month satelite link we dont want to share with the neighbours?

  • Updated to ver 8. Not working properly need to revert back to 7. Can this be done

mmy iPad is not working correctly since I updated it to version 8. It now takes ages turning on every thig is glitchy. Can't use it very slow, can I revery it to version 7 where it worked ok.

It  needs some time to settle things down after upgrade. Give it several hours, maybe a whole day, and do a full restart  (better two)
The wi-fi problems aside, this should help.

  • Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router Not working

I have a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router and it has worked good for a couple months and yesterday it stopped. When I plug it in all the lights are lit even though there arent any ethernet cables connected and the power light blinks constantly. I tried holding the reset button on the back and it didnt help. Anyone know whats wrong or anything I can try to fix it?

You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • WRT54G ver.4 will not connect to some wireless adaptors

My WRT54G v4 has the latest firmware. It connects to several wireless laptops just fine, including macintoshs.
However our Xbox360 wireless adaptor does not connect, and neither does one Dell laptop we have.
We have already made sure we have the right WEP key entered etc., we basically cloned the settings from the laptops that do work. We have DHCP enabled.
What happens is the Xbox360 sees the network, connects fine, but is not assigned an IP address and so cannot access the internet or LAN.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Horsey!
Set the wireless mode of router to mixed.
The Dell laptop has it's own utility, use that coz that would be much easier to connect wirelessly.
For the XBOX, is it set to obtain an ip address & dns servers?? If so, assign an IP on your XBOX that is just in range of the router. [i.e. 192.168.1.10] By the way, IP that you're going to assign should be below 50.

  • WRT54G ... wireless not working.

I've had this router for about a year or two now, and have had NO problems at all.. until the other day. My wifes laptop Hp pavilion dv2500 used to connect wirelessly to this router and surf just fine, but now it can not connect at all or when it does it has zero bars of connectivity. At first i thought it was the network card so i uninstalled and re'installed the drivers. No luck. I tried to release my wireless ip address however it would come up 169.XXX.XX.x.x to that effect. Then i remembered that my phone has wifi and i've used my router to connect to the internet, but my phone could not connect either. Neither could the wireless network card on my desktop. The router works fine when connected to with a network cable. Please help me any way you can. Thank you all in advance.

Check first the wireless settings on your router ... also make sure that the wireless switch on the Laptop is turned on ....
if so then changethe network name to any non-linksys name ... & also use any security key ....
Check on the laptop if getting connected or not ....

  • WRT54G Ver 6.0 Not staying connected

I use a Rogers Cable modem.
I bought this wireless router to connect a desktop and two laptops to the internet.
I bought it in the states on Sept 2, 2006.
In the month and a hlaf since I have bought and installed this router, I have called tech support 4 times. (If you're keeping track, that's once every week and a couple days... And will be calling yet again after I post this message)
I have updated the firmware not once, but twice to new versions.
I have switched the wireless 3 times from 6 to 11 to finally 1.
I do have a AT&T 2.4 Ghz cordless phone, but why would that effect my desktop that is hard wired into the router?
My internet drops numerous times a day. It also drops more in the evening that it does during the daylight hours.
What can I do to keep my internet connected? Do I go back to Best Buy and return this brand for another? Is there anything I can do to fix whatever is wrong with what I already own?
I am at my wits end and unbelievably frustrated at this product. And I will also say, that is putting it all on the mild side for the forums.

I have had the same problem, what I did is I just lowered the MTU settings into 1300. This will allow the router to modify those packets being tramsitted back and forth from the oruter to your hardwired computer so that the connection will be moire stable. It slows down the packet traffic making it sure to arrive at its destined receipient. I disabled the frame burst mode found under the advance wireless settings subtab under the main wireless tab on the router's interface. This will disable the router's capability to burst those packets being sent into the air. It will send the packets to the intended receipient thereby minimizing packet loss. On that same subtab, I also lowered to the beacon interval into 50, so that the interval of your wireless router will be minimized making the connection be conrinous, lowered down the Fragmentation Threshold into 2304 and the RTS into 2304

  • WRT54G Ver 7.0

I have WRT54G Ver 7 router  I bought linksys router and hassel as well

    Hi Fadeel,
I have exactly the same problem. My previous version (v2) broke down and I received a version 7 instead.
Took me some houres to figure out that the problems I had were caused by the router itself.
Also a long chatsession with Linksys USA and phonecalls with the local helpdesk. But Linksys people are very nice and helpfull, but do not always know were they are talking about, in my humble opinion. Got the advice to upgrade the firmware (there isn't any  ) while they knew what the version was.
I bought a (secondhand) version 2.2 and it is working fine now.
I expect that we will have a new firmwareversion soon, but we as customer are running a "User Acceptance Test" while we normally pay for the stuff. Not Cisco worthy!!
My version is a -EU one, yours too?
    Best regards, Rob.

  • WRT54G ver.6 Admin page not available

Hi, Two days ago I saw on linksys website new firmware and decided to upgrade.I guess the installation went wrong, and my router WRT54G ver.6 ended up faulty. The problem is that I cannot access the router's Admin page (http://192.168.1.1), the browser gives me message "connection interrupted - The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." The power light on the router when it starts is steady, no blinking. I can ping the router and as far as I can see it's fully functional in its default mode. I can access internet via cable and wifi. The ssid is Linksys.
I tried all kinds of hard reset, I guess evertything I could find on your forum.
Is there hope for my router or is it "Bricked"?
    Thanks for your Help
    S...

    Hard reset your router -
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Also make sure that your computer is set to 'Obtain IP Address Automatically' , disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer before trying to access the setup page...
If it does not work try connecting a different computer/laptop to the router's ethernet port and see if you can open the setup page...

  • WRT54G not working with Satellite internet

    Please help!
I purchased the Linksys WRT54G a few months ago, set up my home network (laptop with wireless running XP, desktop hard wired to router running 2000, and desktop wireless running XP) everything worked great!
I got the internet installed.  We ( the installer and I ) got the internet to work on my laptop, and he left, said the rest is up to me!  I did not think it would be to bad, but I am stuck!!
My laptop no longer connects to the network! - I can ping the WRT54G but can not see any thing else.  I can connect to the internet only if I plug directly into my laptop, if I go into the Linksys it will not work from any computer!  My other two computers still see the network and can talk to one another but not to the laptop.  I can no longer print from the laptop (which I could do before) the printer is off of the 2000 destop, used to work great!
I have tried some things that I seen here on the forms, "cloned the Mac address" "updated the firmware" and "power cycled" until I am blue in the face, but to no avail!
Additional info - There is a Linksys 8 port 10/100 Switch placed after the Satellite modem, to connect some other hard wired pc's in the house.
It goes Satellite modem - Switch - (some computers attached here) - Router - (rest of the PC's attach here).
I hope you can understand my ramblings!
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

Satellite modem: LAN side set to 192.168.1.1 (assumed)
      dhcp enabled: range: 192.168.1.20-200
Switch: if this is an intelligent switch set it to 192.168.1.2
      dhcp: disabled
    Router: set to 192.168.1.3
      dhcp: disabled
If the satellite modem using a different base setting (ie. 192.168.222.1) you must adjust all other values(222) to match.
