try out a few tweaks in the wireless settings....
change the ssid , channel to 1 or 11...
under the "advanced wireless settings" , change the beacon interval - 50 , fragmentation threshold - 2304 and RTS threshold - 2304 ....
do a power cycle after changing the settings

  • 10.5.2 failed to fix wireless connection dropping problem

10.5.2 did not fix wireless connection dropping problem. I lose wireless connection whenever my MBP restarts or wake up from sleep in the building where I am and have to retype password about 10 times a day. I had not had this problem when I used Tiger. Everyone who has upgraded to Leopard or has it installed on their Mac is experiencing the same problem. Is there any solution or trick to resolve this problem? Thank you.

    Amularya,
Please read the post I made in this thread earlier. No less than a dozen solutions are offered in the link I provided for wireless issues. Troubleshooting wireless issues requires individual attention because of the plethora of issues which can't be tested for. So please start a new topic thread here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1225&start=0
So you can get a wider audience, and won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them.
There literally hundreds of different WiFi adapters.
Dozens of different virus and firewall combinations.
Possibilities for damaged WiFi cards and routers, as well as routers whose firmware is not to spec with the latest wireless standard.
To top it off, bad RAM, hard disk being too full, and bad preference, cache or or logfiles can make various aspects of the operating system misbehave, and/or even the directory leading to those files.
Until each person starts their own thread looking for solution individually, chances are they won't find one. Yes, 10.5.2 addresses WiFi for some people. Obviously it doesn't for everyone. The point is, there are some people, like myself who have never had a WiFi issue either with Intel or PowerPC Macs that they couldn't resolve without a little bit of troubleshooting. I'm happy to help you walk through it, but only if you start your own thread asking for help.

  • [WRT54G] Random connection drops on hardwired computer but not wireless connections

I bought a WRT54G, it's a version 6 if that matters, using the latest Linksys firmware.
The WRT54G is connected to my main desktop and DSL modem, dynamic IP and PPPoE. I set the router with a static IP, there's WPA2 going as well.
I have a notebook and another desktop computer connected wirelessly.
The issue is that my main computer will seem to lose its Internet connection randomly for 15 minutes and then come back by itself.
The problem is hard to describe but I'll try:
Let's say everything is working fine, I go on www.someforum.com/forums and browse around then I go to www.bestbuy.com and click a few links.
Then the issue starts, I get a "Cannot find server" to sites I haven't visited yet in this session like Google or eBay. I can't ping them either. However, if I go to Best Buy or here, it still works fine. I can still browse the forums. So, it seems like somehow, if the connection is "cached," everything still works but I can't make new connections.
Also, during that 15 minutes when my hardwired desktop has the problem, my 2 other computers work fine over wireless.
I can access my router at 192.168.1.1 at all times.

Using the 2 procedures that you noted (answer ID 688 and 534) will get you port forwarding to a computer at a fixed LAN IP address behind your router.  This means that your desktop computer would have a fixed LAN IP address that is set in the computer itself, and not assigned by the router's DHCP server.  It sounds like the DHCP server is giving addresses to your other computers.
It is important to know what fixed LAN IP address you have assigned your desktop computer.  The reason for this is that Linksys has specific rules about assigning fixed LAN IP addresses, and if you don't follow those rules, you can get problems like the one you originally described.  That is the reason that I have pursued this question.
When you assign a fixed LAN IP address, it must follow these rules:
    1)  Any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server range, which is typically 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149
    2)  The fixed LAN IP address must be consistant with the default gateway address, that is it must typically be in the form of 192.168.1.x
    3)  The "x" in item 2 cannot be equal to 1 or 255
So typically, a fixed LAN IP address must be in the range of:
    192.168.1.2     thru 192.168.1.99   or
    192.168.1.150 thru 192.168.1.254
assuming that you did not change your default DHCP server range.
So for example, if you assigned your desktop computer an address of 192.168.1.101, this could be the cause for your problem.  So what address did you assign to your desktop computer when you used the Answer ID 534 procedure?

  • WRT54GS ver 6 drops connection to cpu running XP

I have a WRT54GS ver6 that intermittently drops the connection with the CPU running XP.  If I power down the router everything works fine for a couple of days and then it drops the connecion again.
Is there a firmware update that could fix this?

yes...try upgrading / reflashing the router's firmware ... after the firmware upgrade , reset and reconfigure the router..

  • **Fixed** WRT54GS V6 - Intenet drops problem/router stoped responding

    The important parts:
    Windows XP SP2
    WRT54GS V6
    Motarola Cable router.
So after 3 days on the phone with Tech Support and 2 senior advisor's, they officialy gave up... or they say they will get back to me
    Heres the problem:
Everything was working fine until one day one day the internet connection on my WRT54G v2 decided to stop working, after trying everything i could, and connecting directly to the modem, i concluded it must be the router, and after owning it for 3 years, went out to by a new one, WRT54GS.
Take it home, open it up, same problems... Internet works for about 30 seconds, then drops again for good. I can restart/reset the router, again it will last for about 30 seconds then drop again. The router itself after these 30 seconds cannot be pinged or connected too.
Tech support says to return it and get a new one, maybe it was defected....i did, now router #3 same problem, keep in mind that the network still works, just the internet dosnt. I upgraded the firmware with tech support on the phone, tried just about every troubleshooting technique they could possibly try,(Power cycle, pinging, renewing, upgrading firmware, changing ip, changing to half duplex...)you name it iv tried it and still no internet, btw, im connected via wire to the router, wireless experiance same problems with other computers.
So im kinda hopeing someone had same problem? Any idea's will help. please god! Thank youMessage Edited by helfandeli on 01-18-200712:02 AM

Try resetting the router to factory defaults, using the procedure below.  Hopefully this will get you access to the router so you can update your router settings.
    1)  Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2)  Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3)  Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4)  Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5)  Power down the router.
    6)  Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7)  Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8)  Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9)  Try to ping the router.  To do this, click the "Start" button, click on "Run".  In the box that is labeled "Open:", enter the following:  "ping 192.168.1.1"  (no quotes).  A black box will appear.  You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out."   If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10)  Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1.  This will take you to your router's login page.  Leave the user name blank, then in the password field, enter "admin"  (with no quotes).  This will take you to your router setup page.  Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen).  Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk, and see if you can get your router set up and working.  When you get to the password prompt in setup, be sure to leave the user name blank.
If you have a problem, note the exact error message and the status of the lights on the router, and report back.
    Hope this helps.

  • WRT54G v5 -- Connection dropping issue

Hello and thank you in advance for any help!
I purchased my WRT54G several months ago and it has been working fine until a few weeks ago.  I play alot of World of Warcraft and my connection will "back up" which causes about 10-15seconds of lag followed by those 10-15seconds being played back in fastforward mode.  It seems as though I can transmit packets during this time, but cannot recieve (but I'm not 100% sure.)  This is only a minor problem with I'm not grouped, but being a warrior if I'm expected to fulfill my role and I lag during this time bad things happen.  When I am in a 40man raid these spikes completely kick me off of the server.
I have tried just about everything I've read on the forums (went back at least 15 pages) to fix the issue but it still persists.  I have updated the Firmware, I have changed the MTU to 1300, I have enabled QoS with "High" priority to the port in which my gaming computer is attached to and even changed the physical Ethernet cable that connects my modem to the router.  It should also be important that the issue is not just on my hardwired gaming computer.  I use my laptop for Ventrillo and during these lag times I lose my WiFi also.  I have contacted Road Runner and they claim there is nothing wrong with my modem.  I have also reverted back to my old Linksys 802.11b router (don't have the exact model on hand) and the same problem occured.
Sorry for the long post but any help would be appreciated.

if you're playing that on a PC that is connected via an ethernet, you may try considering to force the NIC to 10 half duplex... that will help not drop the connection...
BRUTE FORCE THE CARD TO 10 Mbps half duplex mode
go to the same window (local area connection properties), once there, you will see a configure button. click it.
you will be lead to fast ethernet card 10/100 properties (depending on the type of etherenet card you have)
once there, click on the advance tab
under property, highlight link speed and duplex or media type or connection type (it varies, but these are one of those variations).
under value, select 10 Mbps/ Tx half mode/ duplex
click ok and click close on the local area connection window

  • Disabling IPv6 seems to solve AEBS connection drop problem

As I posted earlier, I have had (like many others) a lot of problem with my Aiport ExtremeN base station. Connection was dropping every 20 minutes or so, for ethernet as well as Airport. I know it's not my DSL connection, I have used a NetGear WRT300N with no issue whatsoever in over a year.
I was really frustrated with the 180€ spent on the AEBS and about to try downgrading to earlier 7.1.1 firmware when I tried to switch the default IPv6 setting ("Tunnel") to "Local link only" (sorry if the translation is not accurate, my Airport Utility is in french).
3 days now with not a single connection dropout or AEBS reboot !
Can't explain why that is, but it works for me with the 7.2.1 firmware and Mac OS X 10.4.10 with last updates.
I thought I'd share and see if anyone has had the same experience (or can explain why !).

    Glad I could help
I thought this was worth having a topic not buried into the forums.
Funny, now that I have found this, the Google search for "IPv6 AEBS" gives quite instructing results raising security issues :

    {quote}If you don't block incoming IPv6 sessions, you can actually connect to a Mac sitting behind the Airport Extreme from the outside, using SSH or FTP over IPv6, assuming those services are enabled. Long story short, you've lost your first line of defense on your home network for IPv6-enabled servers on your Macs.{quote}

  • VW Iphone 4s bluetooth connection drop problem, is there a solution or do apple not care

Many people are finding their Iphone 4S drops connection with their VW (Passat etc) integrated bluetooth hands free system after working fine for 5, 10, 20 minutes. The only way to reconnect is to switch the car off or turn the Iphone bluetooth off & back on.
This is a dangerous fault and it appears that both Apple & VW have no solution (or are ignoring as they have already sold you a phone & a car).

VW UK (unofficial information) have admitted that their bluetooth system in cars produced prior to 2012 has a
compatibility problem with the Iphone 4S.
This is due to that bluetooth system being developed prior to the launch of the Iphone 4S.
VW cars produced in 2012 have a different bluetooth system that works OK with the Iphone 4S.
As the bluetooth systems are different we are told there is no update software for pre 2012 cars & it is unlikely that
there will be any update in the future.
We have checked this theory as we have 2011 & 2012 VW Passats in our fleet & the drivers of the 2012 cars
have no problems with their 4S bluetooth, the drivers of the 2011 cars all have drop out problems.
The best we can hope for is that Apple acknowledge the problem that they have created (as it is not a VW only issue)
& bring out an update for the 4S that makes its bluetooth as reliable as the Iphone 4.

  • WRT54G ver 6.0 problems

I have a good internet connection when I hook the CPU direct from cable modem but every time I try to connect the router I get Limited to no Connectivity. I have tried reseting, and disconnecting and I still can't got online.
I can talk to other computers on the network but can not go online. I have to unplug from the router, and plug into the modem directly to go on line.
I have reset both the modem and router to default, and it still won't work and it did before.
    Thanks
    Ken

Your problem is that your modem and router are using the same 192.168.1.x  address space.
Disconnect the modem and router.   Then, using a computer that is wired to the WRT54G, login to the WRT54G at 192.168.1.1 and change the "Local IP address" to  192.168.2.1  then click on the "Save Settings" button.   Wait 3-60 seconds for the screen to refresh.  You will likely be disconnected from the WRT54G.  Exit your browser and power down your computer and the WRT54G.
Next, reconnect the modem to the Internet port of the WRT54G.  Your system should work.  If not, in your computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall, including Windows Firewall, and see if that helps.  If you still have trouble, login to the WRT54G and verify that "Internet connection type" is set to "DHCP automatic".

  • WRT54G ver. 7 problems

PC connected via cable and it works on a wireless network on a laptop, after some time (5-10 min), it disables the Internet (Skype and the torrent works) no ping (if enabled laptop without a PC, it works fine) if it is to restart it for some reason changing IP address and have to release and renew DHCP. then everything is fine for 5-10 minutes. What is the problem and how to solve it?

Uograde your Router's firmware and then reconfigure it..As you have WRT54G V6 Download 1.67 MB firmware and follow the given steps..
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • WRT54GS wireless connection drops on laptop when wired desktop is turned on.

I've had this router for a few years now and have never had a problem.  But recently my laptop wireless connection dies when my desktop, which is connection via ethernet is turned on.  In trying to fix the problem, I've upgraded the firmware, but that didn't end up working.  I recently upgraded to vista from xp on the desktop computer, so I don't know if this is what started the problem.  I don't recall if this problem started before I upgraded.
I don't know what sort of additional information you guys would need to help diagnose the problem, so just let me know and I'll get that info for you.
    Thanks,
    Kurt

Check under Local Area Conneciton in Desktop that if there is any other connection except Local Area Connection is present ... if so then delete or disable that ...
Also check that if there is any USB connection from Modem to the Computer ....

  • WRT54GS ver.6 disconnection problems

Everytime I turn on my laptop and when it connects automatically or whenever I turn on my gaming consoles (xbox360 and PS3 wired connection) its just drops my desktop's internet for at least 10 sec and then comes back on... already updated the latest firmware and still the same...any suggestions?

As you upgraded the firmware on the router...you need to reset the router for 30 secs in such a way that the power light on the router is blinkin & then you need to unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router. Then you can plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid yo can plug in the power cable to the router & you will be Online!!!

it usually happens when im playing an online game, no matter how close i am to the router it always happens.
is there a way to maybe release some of the strain my game causes on the router?
    im on windows xp.

logon to router's setup page, try changing wireless channel to 11, go to advanced wireless settings reduce beacon interval to 50, reduce fragmentation and rts threshold to 40 by each, also try upgrading latest firmware on the router...check whether it makes any difference or not...
