Wrt54g version 3 static arp help?

First off hello all i have a PS3 and its set up to automatically turn on with remote play.
As some of you may know the 54G is one of the routers that makes the PS3 turn on without remote play being active.
after some searching it seems its tied to ARP and other people have been successful assigning a static ARP to the address on the PS3 ( PS3 outside of DNS range)
The only thing is a wasnt able to track down a way to do it with the linksys. I was advised on one forum to use telnet but when i type /telnet 192.168.1.1 i get a message
connecting to 192.168.1.1...could not open connection to the host, in port 23: connect failed
im running linksys firmware 4.21.1 and my WRT54G is connected by ethernet to the router.
im sure this question seems silly to some and i apologize. i tried searching around the web and couldnt seem a way to set this up.
any help is greatly appreciated. hoping i do not need to buy a new router
Best Wishes Adam

you did not list your router model # & and guessing your laptop has a internal NIC.  If everything worked fine b4, I'm assuming something just got hosed up.  I would power down your laptop, gaming devices, & anything else you have connected/ using the router.  I would then reset the router.  Most models have a button you depress for a FULL 10-15 seconds.  Then power up your laptop & test your connection.  If all is well, set your security functions, etc.  Then connect the rest of your equipment.
Good luck & let us know how it turns out or if we can assist further.

  • WRT54G Version 3.1 Connection Issues - Help Please

    Good Morning,
We have a WRT54G Version 3.1. Our existing network is wired and functions fine, I am adding the WRT54G for a few wireless clients.
During testing I have connected the wireless to my computer via CAT5 cable to port 1. I have connected another CAT5 cable to the internet port of the router from a known good wall jack.
When I first open the default address 192.168.1.1 and enter the password, all seems well. Due to having servers that hand out IP addresses, I disable the routers DHCP capability.
I enter the following information for example:
    Local IP: 81.0.0.90
    Gateway: 81.0.0.1
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    DHCP disabled
    etc.
After changing the the local IP and receiving a confirmation that my changes were saved and I will be going back to the previous page, the page won't display with the address changed to 81.0.0.90 and it is blank.
I release my IP address through cmd, clear my dns cache and reboot the computer. After restart, I am presented with the stock MS address of 169.254.X.X.
I cannot connect to the local IP I established at 81.0.0.90 and nothing appears to work. The only thing I can do is reset the router and start from scratch...again.
Any ideas on what keeps happening and how it can be resolved once and for all?
    Thanks in advance

even if you have two DHCP enabled on both routers in your network, you will not get an IP adress conflict (exception of course if you're cascading two wireless routers).
a LAN port (ethernet router) to WAN port (wireless router) connection can be established allowing you to have both DHCP server enabled on your routers.
by doing the LAN to WAN connection, you will have two networks in a network.. both network won't meet cuz they will have different IP adress... router 1: could be 81.0.0.90, then router 2 could be 81.0.0.91.
if you want your two routers to meet and be in the network together, you just need to follow QUAK's suggestion to assign a static IP adress on your PC. or better yet, you can just connect the router you're disabling the DHCP server with to it's LAN port from a LAN port as well of your DHCP server (router 1). this is a LAN to LAN connection... by doing that, you will be able to open up the interface of your router 2(DHCP disabled) since your PC connected to it will get an IP adress...

  • Linksys WRT54GS Version 6 router help

Hi all! I have a Linksys WRT54GS Version 6 router with Firmware Version: v1.50.6 and I was wondering if anyone could help me find a free log viewer, since the log viewer that comes with the router just gives the last few sites outgoing and incoming, and it doesn't time it either. Anything that will work with my router that will record all day info as well as put the time? I'd also like it (if possible) if it could identify which websites those IP's belong to; sometimes I will put an IP in the address bar and nothing happens or I get an error.
Also, I can't seem to be able to telnet into my router. I put the right IP 192.168.1.1 8080 which is the port that shows under Administration/Management "management port:" 8080. When I telnet (I'm using vista and I installed the telnet client and server) it says connecting and then just sits there for a long time and then asks me to push any key and says connection timed out. I also tried with port 80 and 23, nothing.
    Thanks!

    *BUMP*
I gathered from what I read on the 'net that this particular router pretty much sucks in terms of putting 3rd party firmware, of telnetting into it, etc. So, is it basically true that there is no way to telnet into this? Also, no one knows of any monitoring or log viewer that works with this version?? Please?

I am a newbee, so please help.
When I download the firmware from this site it says the newest is 1.01.1??
But when I want to forward a port it says firmware prior to 1.32 won't work.
What new firmwire do I need and where can I download it?
By the way, will it also work on a WRT54G version 5.0??
    Best regards Xaykev

hi , the firmware version 1.01.1 , will work with both the wrt54g v5 and the wrt54g v5.1
try this and then go ahead with the port forwarding.

Reset your router and then re-configure it...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Also make sure that your computer is set to obtain IP automatically, disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer before trying to access the setup page...

  • WRT54G Version 2 Firmware Reset?

    Hello,
I have a Linksys WRT54G Version 2 that I installed the V.6. firmware on, and now I cannot connect through the router, or even reach the admin panel. Is there a way to reset Version 2 like Version 5?
Thanks!Message Edited by Kadratis on 11-25-200612:49 PM

you can try to reset this router for 1 min. and Then try to upgrade the router firmware with v2 firmware. Go to site: ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network and search for tftp.exe and download tftp.exe and use this tool to upgrade the firmware file to this router. May this help you!
Make sure you upload only v2 files.

  • Static ARP entry command no worky with vlan

Anyone know why this happens? I'm trying to enter a static arp entry and assign it to a specific vlan, for example:
    arp 192.168.200.1 aaaa.bbbb.cccc arpa vlan 15
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker
When this is entered it errors out and marks the word vlan like it is invalid, though it is a valid option when inching forward using the ? help character. I tried multiple iterations and the only other response I get is if I enter vlan 1. To that the router responds with:
Bad ARP command - Interface may only be specified when bridging IP
Is one to assume that the vlan need not be specified? I opted to enter the vlan only for uniformity, but then when it behaved strangely I became curious. I wonder in what scenario adding the vlan to an arp entry would be valid and acceptable.
    Thanks, Mike

    Hello,
What you experienced is the normal behavior. The L3 device does not allow
you to specify the interface when you are operating in routed mode. Based on
the address you have configured, it will automatically allocate the static
ARP entry to appropriate interface. If you have entered an IP that does not
belong to any subnet, then all interfaces will consider that ARP entry. Only
if you configure two interfaces in bridge mode (like in the case of PPPoE
scenarios), then you can specify the interface ID.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    NT

  • WRT54GS Version 5 Firmware Upgrade

I am confused as to how to update the firmware on my WRT54GS Version 5 Linksys router.
I went to the support section on here, but there are five different options of router firmware upgrade. I bought this a year ago and figure it needs the update, can someone help me?
The choices I found on here are:
Upgrading the Linksys VPN Router's Firmware
Upgrading the Linksys Wireless-G Access Point's Firmware
Upgrading the Linksys Wireless-G VPN Router Firmware
         Upgrading the Linksys Router
Upgrading the Linksys VOIP Router's Firmware
Which one would I want for this basic network router? The reason I ask is because my wireless Internet is constantly down. It won't work unless I do a hard reset of the router each time. It is annoying that I have to do this all of the time. I have never had this problem in the year I had it until six weeks ago. I have to reset it numerous times to get it to read the Internet and then go into the settings and rename it each time. Also, the router and my PC and my landlords laptop always connect through to the router fine, it is just the Internet causing problems.

Hi… you can use choice no. 4 which you’ve mentioned, enter the model number >> WRT54GS >> select version 5 and save .bin firmware file on computer and upgrade it according steps…

Download the firmware update and look at the *_ver.txt (or whatever the version file is called for your particular router) to see if the changes affect the functionality you use.

Look down the list for your model and version and you'll see the specs on your router.

  • Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G Version 3

I just purchsed and installed a Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G Version 3.  It works great in my somewhat small ranch type house.  I'm presently just using it so I can wireless access the internet with my Dell notebook computer from any room in my house.  My operating system is Windows XP.  If I decide to upgrade to Windows Vista in the future will my Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G Version 3 still work ok?
    Frank

yes, i think it will work... just make sure that the firmware of your router is up-to-date with the latest releases from linksys... you can check it out at http://www.linksys.com/downloads and just choose the model no. and version of your router... also, try to check the knowledge base website at http://www.linksys.com/kb ... i hope this helps... good luck buddy

  • Static ARP on 5508

Is there a way to add a static ARP entry onto the 5508 wireless controller? I am having trouble with wireless hosts accessing a server even though they are all on the same subnet. Every other host can reach the server except for the wireless hosts on the 5508. Network Load Balancing is being used for the server and a static arp entry is on our core switch. This fixed all of the other hosts but the wireless hosts are still having issues.
I have searched an am unable to find a way to add a static arp entry on the 5508. When I look in the arp table on the 5508 the server is not listed. Wireless hosts can communicate with every other host on the subnet. This server with Network Load Balancing configured is the only exception.
    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1006558
    We are running 7.0.230.0
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

If anyone else has this issue, here was the fix.
If the wireless clients and server are on the same subnet you just need to enable multicast on the WLC.
Here is the link that shows how to enable multicast on the WLC.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a00807cc10d.shtml
You just need to access the GUI of the WLC, then click on Controller, Multicast, Enable Multicast enter a multicast group and Enable broadcast forwarding.
The multicast group address is an IPv4 multicast group and is recommended to be in the 239.x.x.x-239.255.255.255 range which is scoped for private multicast applications.
Do not use the 224.x.x.x, 239.0.0.x or the 239.128.0.x address ranges for the multicast group address. Addresses in these ranges overlap
with the link local MAC addresses and flood all switch ports, even with IGMP snooping enabled.
