WRT54G Vista conflicts

Anyone have problems similar to mine?
Hello,
I bought two new Dell computers with Vista Home and Home Premium installed in February.  I have had on going problems with communicating with the remote computer which has the printer wired to it.  Using Wireless WRT54G router.  Intermittantly loses connection to internet, just comes back by itself.  Bigger problem is printing via the router is problematic.  When using Word 2003, can't print. Printer set-up get's deleated.  When I try to re-install the printer, the system hangs.  At times, something happens and I can't access the remote computer at all--says I don't have permission or some such. In a few days it will magically start working again for not apparent reason.  Another wierd problem....AFTER completing a print job, the print processes take on a life of their own and the CPU usage grows to 100% freezing the computer!
I have narrowed this down to Linksys, because the remote computer does not have these problems, which is connected via USB to the printer.  Only the computer using the wireless router has these problems.
Eventhough Linksys says the router is compatible with VISTA, I think they've missed something, and there is still a conflict!  HELP!  LINKSYS, CAN YOU HEAR ME????

I am having a similar problem I have found the cd (setup wizard 6.0) that comes with the router not to work as it did on XP.  I cannot get into safe surfing due to a conflict with symantec and Norton that I received pre loaded on my pc.  I completly deleted all Norton and the update program to get the router working, still the conflict exists. I set up a wireless password on my network settings and now my internet works half the time. for now I have completly disconnected it and am using another router without wireless. Unsure of how to resolve this, it was a easy simple set up on XP.

By default, Windows Vista uses NTVLM2 for authentication when attempting to map network drives to a Samba network share, such as your Home or Website share on Datastore01.
This problem can be resolved by making a change in the Windows Vista registry. The necessary change switches Windows Vista's authentication policy from "NTVLM2 responses only" to "LM and NTLM - use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated."
Try this and let me know if it works.

  • WRT54GS / Vista Home Premium / Media disconnected Problem [NEED HELP]

Okay, I of course own the Linksys WRT54GS
My wife's HP laptop connects wirelessly runs Visa Home Premium and usually auto connects to the wireless network.
Our network shows it is available, excellent strength, when she clicks to join a network, it acts like it is going to connect then "Windows can not connect to network"
She tried to diagnose and repair to correct the problem in Vista and "Can not correct more than one problem at a time" This is strange because she is not trying to correct any other issue.
I had her connect using the ethernet cable and she is able to get online.
I own a Gateway laptop that runs XP Pro and I am able to connect to the router via wired or wireless with no problem.
I am also able to connect wirelessly with my iPod touch with no problem.
Can anyone help me with this issue?

Click start >> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing Center >> Manage Wireless Networks, here remove all the networks present and close the Window...
Click on Connect to a Network and try to re-connect to your Network, it should ask for your Network Key/Password, enter the correct password/network key and click Connect...
It should connect...Once you are connected you should restart the computer, it should connect to Internet...

On the Status-Router page of the WRT54G admin, it shows my IP as 192.168.1.97, see below. Could this be the source of the CONNECTION PROBLEMS I've been having?

What is the exact model and version of your router?
What's your dsl modem? the address on the status page of your router which is 192.168.1.97 is actually the address of your dsl modem: your modem actually is what we call as a modem-router) semi-acting routers.
Try setting the modem into bridge mode by doing that it will propely syncronize your modem to your router. and if the  same problem exist>< try setting a static ip and dns on 1 of your computer that you always get the ip address conflict.

  • Dreamweaver/Vista Conflicts??

I am considering buying a new laptop that has Windows Vista
Ultimate on it. I presently have XP and Dreamweaver CS3...has
anybody been running into any significant conflicts between Vista
and Dreamweaver CS3 that I should be aware of?

It is an understatement to say this is the first thing I
checked. but you see Vista Home Premium has a severe multiple
personality disorder. It does not recognize admins logon half the
time. there are several treatments but it will not take the cure in
the form of Vista updates that it refuses also to install. Every
time it's sickness gets threatened it refuses to take the admin
actions. Even though I have successfully installed other Adobe
    programs.
The .NET Frameswork is broken and CMD efforts to fix it are
refused. PROMPT sfc/scannow error refused repair after multiple
tries Also acroIEhelper.dll refuses to delete to makeway for new
Adobe Reader. Efforts to find were it is used meet a blank wall.
    Here is the rest of it so far;
I have now tried to install DW CS3 8 more times. 13 in all
I have tried the following suggestions from listers and the
    university help desk;
    1. running cmd and typing regsvr32 jscript.dll to fully
    establish admin privledge.
    2. Using AdobeCS3Cleaner in both methos 1 and then 2 to clean
out old files that might interfere. MS cleaner was installed also
    as per Adobe instructions.
    3. Running msconfig to do an alternate shutdown of all non MS
    program, virus checkers, etc.
    4. I have used these separatedly and in combination. The same
failure to install DW CS3 occurs. DW does not get installed and
    shared components also fail.
Have run as per Adobe help desk intstructions
    3 times tried 02-20-08
pulled cat 5 to protect from net
    1) selective start settings all non MS off
    2) restart
3 ) made sure acct control is off
    4) made sure Norton si off
    5) ran
    adobeCS3clean script
    6) ran DW CS3 installer from Desktop folder
    Anomalies;
    A) Acrobat 7 folder with file acroIEhelper.dll could not be
    deleted
    B) SFC error; Repair refused
Does that help the ? ;)

  • WRT54GS & Vista

I've got a WRT54GS version 6 (firmware 1.52.2) wifi router from linksys. (After update to 1.52.2 firmware, I did a complete reset and reconfigured the router.)
Established configuration worked fine wired & wirelessly with Windows XP exclusive network.
Then... along came the first vista pc...
Started with a few of the vista release candidates, now i have a vista ultimate install with all the o/s & driver updates.
The PC has an on-board Intel 10/100/1000 Ethernet with latest vista drivers.
I also have a WMP54GS wireless with speedbooster version 1.1 (with latest drivers).
Whenever I connect to the router - wired or wirelessly - Internet connectivity starts out fine, but after a certain short (< 15 minutes) period of time, the router drops internet connectivity for all wired/wireless pc's on the network.
On the XP pc's i am unable to connect to the router as well; I find the only way to return to a working state is to cycle the power on the router.
Since this is a new development with vista and occurs both wired & wirelessly I am wondering if the wonderful new protocol stacks and/or discovery programs that come with vista are responsible.
Has anyone encountered similar problems... and has any resolution been found? (aside from switching equipment?)
If not... here comes that Apple Airport Extreme
    thanks...

Hi, try to change following settings and see if helps:
Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser's address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name.
Here enable MTU and set size to 1350.
Go to security tab, and disable block anonymous internet requests.
    Change channel to 11.
Go to advanced wireless settings and here change beacon interval to 50, fragmentation threshold to 2306, and RTS threshold to 2307, DTIM to 2
    Hope these works for you.

  • Windows Vista conflicting with Clean Access?

When I try to log into Clean Access to use the internet, it gives me an error message saying that in order to fulfill all of my requirements and get into the system, I need to download windows defender. But Windows defender comes with Windows Vista, which is what I have...So when I try to download Windows Defender and install it, it gives me a popup saying that I already have it on my comnputer and that I don't need to download it. Any ideas? Anybody? Please? Am I even in the right place for this kind of question?

If you using Windows Vista,You already have windows defender. Ensure the version of the defender because if Windows Defender informed you that an update is available, you are running an older version.
Below are Windows Vista Supported Antispyware Product as of the latest release of the Cisco Clean Access software.
    Product version - 1.x
    AS Checks Supported
    (Minimum Agent Version Needed) are:
    Installation - (4.0.5.0)
    Spyware Definition - (4.0.5.0)

  • Can't install Adobe registry patch for DW/Vista conflict

Running Vista Business, Dreamweaver 8.02 installed. After
losing the use of Vista help function, I downloaded the registry
fix from Adobe's KB article (
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb400789&sliceId=1).
When I double click the file provided in the article
    (DW8_Fix_Help_and Support.reg), I get the following error:
"Cannot import...Not all data was successfully written to the
registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes."
No applications are running at the time. I have rebooted and
    tried again with no success.
I am doing this while logged into a "standard user" account.
I noticed that I was able to make the registry fix when logged in
as an administrator, but when I log back in as a standard user the
    Vista Help still won't function.
Just curious--anybody else have this problem? Should I be
performing my everyday tasks while logged into my administrative
account? I thought you weren't supposed to do this as a security
    precaution.
    Thanks for the help.

Hi there, I had this problem weeks ago - my Vista Ultimate
Help and Support can't open. As I realized later, this was due to
my DW 8 installed, and both had the XML crash. My system had that
fix installed successfully and I think there may be some
    restrictions on your system.
    1. Have you tried "Running as Administrator" on the fixes
(ie. Right-click on the application and choose 'Run as
    Administrator'?
    2. Maybe you had the wrong permissions set on your account -
that's why you could only have certain permission even when you are
    on Administrator account.
If you still can't access it, you may want to try out

    - these people are very helpful and most emails are replied

    Hope these help!

  • Troubling finding my version (model is a WRT54GS) and conflicting post

Alright from what I've read I'm supose to look under my router for the model number. I've done that and what I saw was "WRT54GS" with no version number. "WRT54GS" is what is on the model and documentation that came with the router  so I'm thinking that's the true model name.
However when I look at the FCC ID I see the following. "WRT54GV2". This is what is throwing me off. Now when I go to the view the router settings I see in the upper right hand corner the following "Firmware Version: v2.07.1". Firmware docuemnts say that the inital release for v1 had firmware v2.06.1 and after that was v2.07.1.
Now last thing I want to do is install the wrong firmware and screw things up. I'm thinking that the model I have is version 1 of the WRT54GS series but the FCC ID is throwing me off as no "version number" is viewable on the hardware itself. Now the FCC ID number could be related to the initial software that is installed on the hardware which links to the v.2.07.1 number I"m getting but I'm not sure. Should I just ignore the FCC ID number and focus on the model number (which has no version text near it or anywhere else on the machine)?
    Thanks.

Nevermind, figured it was the version 1.0 based on the serial number after looking at a wikipedia entry. Installed the correct firmware and things seem to be working.
I think that article which is here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WRT54G is a better way for people to figure out which version they have then looking at the other numbers on the machine. Going by the first four letters and numbers of the serial.

  • WRT54G - Vista - Unable to join network on Ipod touch.

So, I've have the router for a while, as well as the iPod.  They have both been working fine.  Today, I shut the ipod off, then when I went to turn it back on, it asked for my password for linksys.  I thought it was weird, but I went ahead and typed it in (i did it numerous times, and double checked the make sure I had the password typed in correctly), the message shows up "Unable to join the network "Linksys"."  This has never happened to me before, and I can't find any information for it online. If someone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanx..

On your IPOD make sure you are typing the right security key.
If you are not sure about the security key, then you can login to the router setup page and click on the wireless tab and below you need to click on the sub tab "Wireless Security" in this window you will find your security key.... Note down you security key... and try to connect to your wireless network on your IPOD.

  • WRT54GS Wireless Bridge.

    Hey.
    First post here.
Have been doing alot of google searching trying to find a solution to a problem im having but dont seem to find any solid answers so thought id ask here.
What im trying to is this:
I have our main router ( BT Business Hub ) which has 3 ethernet cables running from it...
    - One to our main computer ( direct link )
    - One to our secondary computer ( direct link at around 30m away )
    - One connected to a Linksys WRT54GS ( v7 Firmware at 80m away )
Currently we can use the internet on the main computer and through any laptops connected to the Bt Business Hub. We can also use the internet through any laptops connected to the WRT54GS but am unable to connect to the internet through the secondary computer.
I believe this i caused by the WRT54GS conflicting with something.
I now understand that i need to install some third party firmware to enable wireless bridge mode on the router.
Can someone explain where i need to start in order to get this all working?
And can someone confirm i will be able to connect wirelessly to the WRT54G after enabling wireless bridge mode?
Im sorry if that was a bit confusing..
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

From how I understand the situation, the only computer that cant access the internet is the secondary computer, right?
I don't think that WRT54GS is conflicting with "something" because you can access the internet from it. So it must be the secondary computer that has an issue.
Is DHCP enabled in the main router?

  • Illustrator cs3 headache! Error loading plugins. ColorHarmony.aip DxfDwg.aip FHImprot.ap PNGFileFormat.aip TracingSuite.aip TrcingUI.aip

I have searched everywhere on both the net and the adobe website and there is no solution for this problem.  I have tried all suggestions, aside from reformatting my hard drive and loading everything from scratch. I have Adobe CS3 Master Collection which we paid quite a bit for and I find these errors and mistakes outrageous.  I have a Zune and I still hve to disable the launch using the Vista Task Manager in order to get PDF files to save using any progrm within the suite.
All of a sudden one day, I started getting the following error: Error loading plugins. ColorHarmony.aip DxfDwg.aip FHImprot.ap PNGFileFormat.aip TracingSuite.aip TrcingUI.aip
I have tried using the CS3 Script clean up tool, even at level 2. I have gone through and got rid of any vestiges of folders or files that have to do with Adobe CS3 Master Collection.  Nothing works.  The only thing that did work that I refuse to do is to make another User Account and use that account just for Illustrator so I have to switch users back and forth to send e-mails and such.
What is the fix for this?  Is Adobe paying attention?
Any words of wisdom?  I have read that even after paying the $39.95 for help from Adobe, they still dont have a solution.   Is t his a ploy to make some money off of fees during this economy?

Okay all, here is what I have tried; re-installed printer drivers, nothing, then:
I went to C:\Users\[your name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Illustrator CS3 Settings on Win Vista.
Found the following folders:  Brushes, Composite Fonts, Graphics Styles, Kinsoku, MojiKumi, New Document Profiles, Plug-ins, Swatches, Symbols, Workspaces.  All folders were empty except for the New Document Profiles which had the following: Basic CMYK, Basic RGB, Mobile and Devices,
Print, Video and Film and Web, as I said these are document files which I deleted before this re-installation and nothing. Same error as above.
The three files listed in the Illustrator CS3 Settings folders are: AI Color Settings, AIMenuFaceCache and IllustratorFnt.lst.  I deleted all three, IllustratorFnt.lst rebuilds immediately when I Open Illustrator CS3, however, the other two dont seems to rebuild until I receive the Microsoft Windows alert:  a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the rpgoram and notify you if a solution is available.  You'd think with the many times that this program has shut down automatically, someone would have a solution by  now!
There is no AdobeFnt.lst file as specified by Mylenium.
corrupt preference folder, the whole users preference folder: I do not see an AI.Preferences folder in this area neither, and when I reopen Illustrator there is still no Preferences folder.  Dont know how to get to the whole users preferences folder.  I have a done Search for Preferences*.* and I only get entries for ACT! 2008 CMR which we have installed here.
corrupt Illustrator Settings folder located somewhere in the Documents and Settings No, this does not seem to do anything, If I delete the entire contents under Illustrator CS3 Settings.
a corrupt or conflicting plug in from a thrid party which is what it sounds like.  Nothing in the plug-ins (Illustrator CS3 folder) and I haven't downloaded a third party.  I do see the plugins that this mentioned in this error: ColorHarmony.aip DxfDwg.aip FHImprot.ap PNGFileFormat.aip TracingSuite.aip TrcingUI.aip in the following C: Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS3\Plugsin\Extensions, but the system will NOT let me remove them.
a corrupt font(s) or font data base(s) or both.  Removed all possible fonts that the system would let me, and still nothing.
a corrupt color or monitor profile (this once happened to me)  Do not use Custom monitor nor color profies.
a conflicting haxie  running a PC
an update to something on your user account Hmmm all I have done are the recommended updates to Vista
conflicting software on the mac it is usually entourage or Quicken but they usually interfere with the keyboard shortcuts.  On a PC.
and on the pc world of course a virus that is affecting your user account because it has only found your password on that accounts and which you obtained via browser or e-mail.  Ran a full system virus scan and nothing.
The last and very unpopular amongst the pc world is a permissions problem in the pc world they always find a work around thuis issue rather than face the fact and why Adobe may have given up at this point.  Turned off the UAC account, but your right, when I tried to delete the mentioned plugins in the errror, it said i didnt have the permissions.
There can be other reasons. The reason Adobe could not find it is the problem on the pc is often denial that this is user induced it also a problem but to less a degree on the Mac.
Maintaining your system is important. I do regular scans and things.
For instance have you set your scratch to a hard drive hat has a lot of free space do you have scratch other than your start up disk? Have a huge hard disk and 4 gb of DDR3 ram.
How much RAM do you have these are less likely to be the problem since the new user account works.
If you want to get his running again try a few things and tell us what did not work and perhaps we can help with nrrowing it down.
PLEASE HELP YOU GUYS, THIS IS VERY BIZARRE, WHY WOULD ONE SEPARATE USER ACCOUNT WORK AND THE OTHER NOT.  THEY BOTH PULL OFF OF THE SAME PROGRAM FILE FOLDER RIGHT?

  • WRT54G IP Address conflict...

After 3 sessions with Linksys live chat I have done everything suggested and nothing has worked. Here is the situation:
the router(WRT54G v.3 firmware 4.21.1) is working. I can connect to the internet through the router with my notebook(Windows XP Home SP2) using both wired and wireless connection. IP Addresses are:
    wireless -- 192.168.1.101
    wired -- 192.168.1.102
I can connect to the internet through the router with a second desktop (Windows XP Home SP2) using wired connection. IP Address is:
    wired -- 192.168.1.103
I can NOT connect to the internet through the router using my primary desktop(Windows Vista Home Premium SP1). What I have discovered by checking the windows event log, is this:
The system detected an address conflict for IP address 75:65:84:74 with the system having network hardware address 00-13-10-94-A3-17. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result.

The router does NOT have a working internet connection when connected to that particular pc.
SO... how do I fix this conflict with IP Addresses? All of the resetting & powering off & on & etc.... hasn't changed anything.

  • WRT54G v.6 - Vista forgetting Network settings but not on XP? - help please :)

Hello everyone! I hope someone can shed a bit of light on this, it's driving me crazy!
I am using a WRT54G v.6 and Vista Ultimate and a dual-boot with XP on my desktop computer. I also have a laptop with Vista Home Premium. I have cable internet. Here's the thing:
Sometime ago I lost my internet connection. A friend with the same router told me to unplug the router for a day and that it'll do the trick. It did... partially.
I pluged it, inserted the installation CD (please keep in mind that I have no router knowledge at all) and everything went fine, until I shut down my computer. At the moment I had connected the desktop and laptop. When I turned the desktop on with Vista, it could not connect to the internet, although the laptop had no problems at all.
I connected the modem directly to my computer and internet was fine, but if I plug it back to the router, nothing happens. So, I had to do the same thing again: unplug for a day, restart the settings and it's a go. I've done that so many times it's not funny anymore
If I put my computer into hybernation, the router/vista works fine, but if i shut it down, I lose my internet connection on Vista.
Has anyone dealt with these before? I'd really appreciate your help, and sorry for the long post
    Edit:
Right now I had to install an update on my desktop. First, I intalled the recent firmware upgrade, reset all settings again and configured the router. Everything was fine. I installed the Windows update, had to reboot and bam! I lost my connection. I'm on the laptop right now.
I can't even access the router on my desktop via 192.168.1.1. I have a limited or no connectivity message. It appears I have 2 networks, both public (I also tried private and nothing). I don't have internet access on none of them, although I did have before rebooting the computer). I don't have the warning icon anymore, tho.
I tried to merge/delete the connections and it "appears" as one of them was deleted, but it's still there. It says: Network 2 (the name of the network) it's in use, and under type says: unmanaged. But still no internet connection on that computer.
After some minutes, I was able to access the router via 192.168.1.1, but still no internet...

Hello Klatch! Thanks for your reply!
Well, thing is that it used to work before. Of course, I'll definately check if an update is available
All these issues began maybe a month or 2 ago. Everything was working flawlessly. One time, I lost my connection and that's where everything got messed up.
My main problem is that I get this "Unidentified Network" in the network and sharing center that seems to be causing the problem, as far as I know.
I connect the router and get the Unidientified Network icon, plus another one. I deleted one, but it was still there. Even if I try to merge them, nothing happens.
I even connected the modem directly and could not connect to the internet for some time, because Vista was still looking for the previous setting (back when the router was working). I had to unplug the modem several times, reboot, etc. I tried so many things that I lost track of what made the computer work again :lol.
I tried to connect the router last night and nothing. The only thing that seems to work is unplugging the router for a long time/resetting it, then Vista will make the connection, but if I restart, the internet it's gone.Message Edited by jt001 on 04-05-200705:31 AM

  • NAT issue - WRT54G Version 1.1 with Vista Home Premium

    Router = WRT54G Version 1.1
I am trying to figure out the cause of my problems, this router or Vista?
I have 2 PC’s (just want to use my Vista 1) connected to the same router that is connected to a cable modem – the Windows XP machine has no problems bar its age and spec. I have a brand new PC with Vista Home Premium installed on it, now it is this new PC that I am having NAT problems with and port blocking.
I have installed Windows Live Messenger and when setting it up I went into Tools/Options/Connections and I get an error message:- "You are connected to the internet through a UPnP port restricted NAT. The Windows Firewall is enabled. (User)"
I have no option to run the trouble shooter (greyed out)…….
If I turn off Windows Vista Firewall I get:- "You are connected to the internet through a UPnP port restricted NAT. (User)”
Since this I have installed Media server software and have to reset the port it uses every time as it is always stating that it is blocked.
I have downloaded OpenOffice via a torrent client which also stated that I had NAT problems.
I have no NAT issues at all on my older XP PC and as a result I believe it is safe to rule out my router and modem……..I have only disabled Windows Firewall and this had made no difference, but I have not tried uninstalling it (no idea if that would make a difference)
Oh, I do not have UPnP enabled (router setting) – does this matter (I have tried turning it on but made no difference to this issue so I turned it off again)?
