WRT54G wired connection works wireless doesn't

I am having the exact same problem. When I plug my computer directly into the modem I can access the internet, but there is no connection when I plug my computer into the router and the router into the modem.  Even when I have changed the IP address on the Setup page, the Status page still says 0.0.0.0. I have done all of the steps that you have instructed here. I also have AT&T DSL service.

Go here to connect via DSL service.

  • MacMini - Wired connection works, wireless doesn't

I've got a perplexing problem here. From the time I got my Mac Mini (about 10 months ago, upgraded to Lion a week or two ago) up until this morning, the wifi connection has worked fine. Mysteriously, this morning after I finished some reports for work, it quit working. My Windows netbook connects to the same wireless router and works fine, as does my phone. The wifi indicator at the upper-right indicates that it is connected to my router. If I go into Network Preferences/Advanced and click on TCP/IP it has a valid IP address for my network. If I go into terminal I can ping the router and I can ping websites by domain name so it appears to be resolving addresses properly. I can ping other computers on the network. I didn't install any updates or anything prior to it stopping working. I was in google apps for a couple hours and it was working fine, I ran my kids to school and then when I got home this issue started. If I go into any app that makes use of the internet connection (web browsers, iTunes, etc.) they all time out and are unable to connect. I have restarted many times. Full shut down and let it sit for a couple hours. Turned off the wireless and turned it back on. Specified a manual IP address, returned it to DHCP...all the same behavior. If I connect an ethernet cable (also connected to the same router) everything magically starts working. Any ideas?  Thanks.

    1. On your desktop, click Start. Type cmd in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    ipconfig
    or try this http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=ebe56f15763e4c27b44816c831d68f95_3997.xml&pid=96&s...
    Look for IP address.
    2. To check the your Internet IP address, on the router's page look for status tab. Paste here whatever information you have there. It will look like this, click here. Which shows 192.168.1.3.
I hope that clears it. :-)

  • Actiontec MI424WR dropping wireless connection intermittently; wired connection works

I've had this router for about two years, with no issues.
Beginning on Saturday, our two laptops and phones began losing their connection to our wireless network, dropping the signal every 30 seconds or so.  I tested the wired connection by plugging the laptops directly into the router, and both computers functioned properly - no issues connecting or staying connected.  I have my Roku hard-wired to the router, and that also has had no issue, so it'd definitely a problem with the wireless signal to my devices.
Spoke to a CS rep, who had me first check the internet signal (green, blinking sporadically, which I was told indicated no issue with the connection), then had me reset the router and unplug.  No dice. She said the internet signal seemed fine, and that "everything looked good on her end", whatever that means.  They're sending a new router which I'll receive today or tomorrow, but I have trepidation.
Has anyone else had this issue?  I saw alot of router issues on the forums, but wasn't sure if everyone was having this specific problem (just wireless connect issues).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This turns out to be good advice. I changed the channel on my router settings to 11 (per an earlier post on a different thread), and I haven't had an issue since. Here's the original post: "01-21-2011 11:32 AM that type of problem doesn't sound like a router issue, but instead sounds like a wireless transmission issue. you may be able to resolve that fairly easily.. Try to change the wireless signal. you can do that in the router. open a browser, and go to http://192.168.1.1, user name is admin. and the password is most likely the serial number found on the service tag of your VZ router unless you changed it. Once you login successfully, go to the top and hit wireless, then on the left basic security. then go to option 3 which is channel 1, 6 and 11 and are the only channels you should try. So it will likely be set to auto, change it to 11 and put the check for keep settings even after reboot (Directly under the channel) and then hit apply., after you hit apply, test your connection out, if you notice a difference, leave it like that until the problem happens again, and if it happens again, go back into the router, and try channel 6, test it out. and then finally 1 if the first two don't work."

  • WRT54G wired connection failure

My WRT54G v2.2 (FW 4.20.6) will no longer work with a wired connection - neither from my cable modem to the router nor from the router to my PC. More specifically:
If I connect my cable modem directly to my PC, I get a connection to the internet via my broadband provider (which is how I'm creating this message). If I connect the cable modem to the router, I cannot connect to the internet. I get a good wireless signal and can connect into the router (192.168.1.1), but no outside access. However, if I disable wireless on my PC and connect directly via wire to the router, I cannot even access the the router. In the latter case, my PC does report that the "local area connection is now connected", and the correct LED displays on the front panel of the router, but the connection doesn't work.
I've tested both of my cables that connect directly PC --> modem and they're both good. I've reset the router to factory default. Now I don't know what to do, except maybe replace the router. I'd like to hear of a cheaper solution.

You can check this on how to configure WRT54G wireless router. Also make sure you get the corrct IP, netmask, gateway and DNS on the computer after connecting to wireless network (can check this with ipconfig /all command in command prompt).
    Good luck..

  • Airpot extreme 4th gen, internet connection works and doesn't work

I have this airport extreme 4th generation that worked just perfectly untill 2 days ago.
I have a modem from the Tel Company. From there a RJ45 cable goes into the Airposrt extreme.
    The light is green.
If I open the airport utility, it tells me the internet connection works (green light) and sometimes doesn't works (orange light)
I first had problem with wifi on iPhone 4s (wife and friends), who couldn't join the wifi network anymore. They can see the wifi network, they type the password but can't login.
I had problems with my last gen MacBookPro, apparently for no reason. Sometimes it connects some other time it doesn't.
    Same story with my iPhone5.
I also made an hard reset of the airport extreme but with no result. nothing changed.
Sometimes the internet connection is on some other times is off.
Now I want to understand where is the problem, can be the ISP, can be the airport that is damaged?
    Thanks.

    Router mode: Bridge mode
You do not have multiple public IP.. DHCP is the wrong setting..
One or the other has to be bridged.. the AE is currently the one bridged..
Or the modem has to be bridged.. pick on or the other.
Did you chack the modem logs?
    What modem is it?
What do the lights on the modem show when the connection drops out?
Did you plug something directly into the modem and see if internet is still working when the AE stops working??

  • Slow Internet on wired connection, fast wireless on same network

    Hi,
My Internet connection has just been upgraded from 2MB/s to 10MB/s. To confirm the upgrade I have used www.speedtest.net with Firefox 3.5.1 to test my upload/download speeds. I have 2 computers on my network which consists of a cable modem connected to a white airport base station with 128 bit WEP encryption in 802.11 b/g compatible mode. The 2 computers are a dual 2.8 ghz MacPro which is wired directly into the Airport base station by Ethernet and an iMac 1.83 Intel core 2 duo which connects wirelessly. Both machines are running OS X 10.5.7. The much faster MacPro only achieves a download speed of 5.7MB/s over its wired connection while the slower iMac achieves 9.8MB/s - very close to the advertised speed over its wireless connection. Both upload at the same 512kb speed. These are consistent speeds not one offs so I am wondering why the difference? The MacPro is my main machine so I'd like to have the best speed possible on that.
I have tried connecting the MacPro directly to the Cable Modem, bypassing the airport base station and get the same speeds.
Any ideas? What else can I try?
Thanks for reading all that, I've put in as many details as possible, I'm really stumped!
    Thanks in advance,
    Alan.

First, be sure you're not confusing "MB/s" (megabytes/sec) and "Mb/s" (megabits/sec). These will normally differ by (roughly) a factor of 10. The value of "9.8MB/s" over 802.11g is presumably actually "9.8Mb/s", as the higher value exceeds the maximum rate for that protocol.
Second, what type of Ethernet cable ("CAT-x") are you using? An older cable can cut your maximum data rate.
What speed do you see with the iMac if you connect it via Ethernet?

  • Had to reset router, wired connection fine wireless not working even w/out security

hi, after that freakin blackout that made my internet stop workin, i did a complete reset to my router, and reconfigured it all over again, now i can connect to the internet if im wired to it but if im wireless i cant (tried with other laptops, xbox and it wouldnt work) i even left the wireless without security but its the same, when i click on connect to my network, it hangs forever "connecting" and in the end it remains unconnected... BTW i have a button in wireless settings "Status SES Inactive" which in the first firmware version it wasnt there, and i dont know what its for and if i should use it (what is "SES"? its not in the help manual)

  • BEFW11S4 v4 - wired devices work, wireless devices cannot connect to the Internet

    Greetings,
I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless, ver 4. I have a PC connected directly to one of the Ethernet ports, and have no problem with that connection. I have a DSL service from Verizon. All devices are running Windows XP.
My wireless Laptop, as well as other desktop with wireless USB adapter cannot access the Internet. It seems that I have a wireless connection between the router and these devices since my Laptop can see the SSID and the wireless network and connect to it. But when I try to launch IE explorer or use AOL, I am not successful.
The frustrating part is that the wireless laptop used to work just few days ago and I haven't changed any set-up or added any hardware.  I have tried to re-install the router, and also did few resets...but nothing is working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Elie

    Elie,
From one of the wireless computer, wither desktop or laptop, try this to help isolate the issue:
fo to Start>run> type "cmd" then click enter
that would open MS DOS, type: Ping (your router IP address)
For Example, if the router IP address is 192.168.1.1, then type:
    ping 192.168.1.1 then click enter
if it does not come back with a time out, then you your PC is connected to the router. If it did time out, then it is the wireless connection.
If so, check the wireless configuration on the router, as of SSID, security if any , etc.. and make sure that the wireless card in each desktop and laptop match those settings. Be aware that SSID is "case sensitive" so it has to match exactly the one in the router.
hope that will help you in troubleshooting the issue

  • Wired works, Wireless doesn't

When I connect my computer with a wire router is works just fine and I have no problem getting online but when tried to setup a wireless route it won't let me go online. All the lights are on (power, WLAN, Ethernet channel and Internet). What am I doing wrong?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Did you setup security on the router. Did you set a unique SSID. Has this ever worked before. What Operating System are you using. What model router do you have.

  • Wired Connection Works, but Wireless won't connect

I just got the Wireless-N Broadband Router and I have my Home computer connected to it through a LAN connection. And I have an internet connection. But on my Laptop the only thing that my WiFi connection picks up is HPsetup (Is this my Linksys Router?).. The Hpsetup has a very low connection by my Linksys Router. And the signal fades in and out.

what Conection protocol does your Laptop use?
    PreN, 802.11g, 802.11b?

  • WRT54G wired connection very slow

I just installed my first wireless router last night (the WRT54G), and I got the wireless portion up and running, which is a success to me.  But I immediately noticed that my wired desktop connection to the internet is now much slower than before.  I've tried doing some of the suggestions I've read about on you forums, such as adjusting the MTU, using TCP optimizer, etc, and nothing seems to have helped.  I did an internet speed test and my upload speed is well over twice what my download speed is...seems like my settings are right in the upload direction, just not so much in the download direction *shrugs.*  I did read on one post to try turning the range boost off, I logged into the router but can't figure out how to toggle the range boost on or off.
I'm sure this must be a somewhat common/frequent problem, it just seems that when I searched, most of the speed complaints had to do with the wireless connection rather than the wired one.  Any help on this would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

    Please state your ISP.
    My ISP is Mediacom (cable)
Please state the make and exact model number of your modem.
    it is a WRT54G v8  Frimware ver v8.00.2,
If you know the URL of the User Guide for your modem, please post it.
My D-Link DCM-200 is apparently a discontinued product, so I don't know if I can help here.
Connect the computer, by wire, directly to your modem.  Verify that you have a properly working Internet connection.  Then do the following:
Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig /all" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key.  Post the results.

    Hi,
Does it happens only on 1 wired computer?
Try to wire some other computer and test it's download speed, and verify if it is issue with router and computer
And then resolution can be thought of.
I only have the one wired computer to test with, I haven't really tested the wireless speed yet; thought I'd tackle the wired problem before going for the wireless (if it's a problem)

  • Xbox 360 will not connect to WRT54G Wired connection

OK I just bought a xbox 360 and the Linksys wrt54g router I updated the firmware on the router and have 2 pcs currently connected and working great i also have a wii connected wirelessly and it works great.
I connected the xbox 360 to the router and it doesnt even detect that its connected. Ive tested the cables tried 4 different ones and nothing i unhooked the router and just ran the xbox 360 to the cable modem and it worked fine so i know its not the xbox or the cables its the router thats giving me probs. i called linksys was on the line with them for 2 hours and they couldnt tell me nothing. Ive read that ppl have this router and there xboxs work fine
on microsofts site this router is listed as compatible. im lossing my patience and getting very mad about this.
no lights come on the router and the xboxs say the cable is not connected when running to the router but when connected direct to the cable modem works fine.
can someone please help or shed some light on this i would be greatful
    thank

I amp having the same problem. I tried what you had said about using the xbox settings but no luck. I found a link that told me to open these ports:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/mediacenter/firewall.mspx#EMG
It says Inbound and outbound, but I have no idea what that means.  I basically went to Port Range Forwading (I have the BEFSX41 wired router by the way.). It would only allow me to put in 10 .  Also there is no incoming and outgoing!!?? So if there was just 1 number for the port I put that number in both Start and end, and if it had 2 number I put the 1st one as start and the second one as end.
Can anyone help me. This is redamndiculous that a person has to go through this much trouble to hook up an xbox 360.
Also I have a SD216 switch. I don't know if that matters at all.

  • AEBS and TC - wired connection, same wireless network

    I need some advice.
I have AEBS and TC. Currently, the connection between them is "Extend wireless network". They are located on the opposite ends of my condo. I am doing some work on my unit and I have a chance to draw an ethernet cable between them. However, I'd like both of them to be the same wireless network, so that I have good coverage in and around my unit and have good speeds for accessing NAS units on the network.
Which ports would I connect with the ethernet cable and how would I configure the wireless network?
    Thank you!

Main unit has eithernet cable from LAN port that connects to WAN port of second unit.
Second unit is set up in bridge mode. You should not use "WDS" or "Extend Network" These are only for wirelessly extending the network.
The second base station should be set to a "DIFFERENT" wireless channel, however the network name and security settings should be identical to the main base station.
As long as the base stations have the same network name, roaming will work between them.
Again, they need to be set to different channels so that they don't interfere with each other.

  • Model WRT54GS Wired Connection

Model WRT54GS but i have my xbox 360 connected to it by a ethernet cable. i also set the port range and set a IP manually to the 360. I'm still getting strict Nat. Also, i have DSL Internet and i set the port range and firewall to the 360 IP on the DSL Modem. Wen I made the port range settings it was saying open Nat,A Day later it goes back to strict. i rechecked the port range settings and they are still set. I also have a PS3 connected wireless to the router, i set the port range for it as well. I've had no problems with the ps3 only the 360. Made sure IP are different. Help?

Ya i forgot to mention I put the DMZ to the PS3 and it makes it Type 2 NAT but wen i take it off the PS3 it goes to Type 3(type 2-router connection open NAT Type 3-Router Connection Strict NAT). But when i put it to the 360 it still says Strict NAT. I have the IP addresses= PS3(192.168.1.15) 360(192.168.1.115). After reading your post I updated the Firmware but has not fixed problem yet

  • Time Capsule: Wired connection works but cannot connect via wifi to net

    Hi all,
I've had a Time Capsule for a year or so. I've been having problems with connectivity over recent months and I'm not sure where the issue is.
I have plugged in an ethernet cable joining my MBA to the TC, and another from the TC to the wall socket. I can access the internet without any problems.
However, if I unplug the ethernet cable from my MBA (or indeed if I don't plug it in in the first place) then I cannot connect to the internet. I can still back up to Time Machine etc., but nothing can get 'through' the TC.
Also, if I turn Mobile Data off for my iPhone, I cannot then access the internet via WiFi through the TC.
Any ideas as to how to fix this? The TC is in bridging mode, which has worked fine before. All suggestions welcome!

    Ok.. let me try again..
Going back to your first post.
When you plug in via ethernet the MBA works but not by wireless..
Now add that to the new info.
    The campus network relies on each PC's individual MAC address and then assigns IP addresses as required;
Is the MAC address actually registered?? Because the MAC address of the ethernet port of the MBA and the MAC address of the wireless are different.
If the MAC addresses are not registered.. how does the Uni know the difference between a computer and a router??
You are not allow to run a router that feeds DHCP into the uni system.. but they cannot know what you have behind the MAC address of the item plugged in. A computer or a router.
So the TC has to be in bridging mode - which has worked perfectly well previously
Try releasing the MAC address to the PORT.. because the uni might have decided they don't want hubs connected either.. therefore the address of whichever device that is plugged into the wall is registered at the switch and will not allow a change for a fix period.. that is one way to stop people changing stuff around.
Try powering off the TC.. when you use another item.. or change from ethernet to wireless.. then power up the TC again and then power up the device .. eg the wireless on the laptop.. If it fails, it is not the TC that is causing it.. because in bridge the TC is completely dumb. It has no ability to control the MAC address being sent to the main router. None whatsoever.
If your TC recently upgraded to 7.6.4 firmware.. though.. well it can do all kinds of nasties.. flash it back to 7.6.1 and factory reset it.. and hope it works as it did before.. if not the uni changed the system to prevent your TC acting even as a hub.
