WRT54G with firmware 1.01.1 and Vista

Has anybody tried connecting wireless using Vista Home Premium with a WRT54G v5 using firmware 1.01.1?  I have tried to get this to go and can't ping the router.  I can get this to go using firmware 1.00.7 using someone elses unsecured network.  I have tried forcing in an IP address, default gatway, and DNS server into Windows Vista network set up  These settings work on the other network but not mine.  I have tried disabling the firewall in the router and the wireless security.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

If I connect a cable to the router I can do surf the web or access the router ui.  I can ping the router.  If I try to use wireless, there is no connection to the router.  Resetting the router does not help.  Re booting the router is no help.  I can connect to another network (unsecured) and surf so I know the wireless is working.  I have even tried another router (not Linksys) and that is no help.
I have upgraded now to firmware version 1.02.0 and still can't connect.

  • IPod Touch 2G with Firmware 3.1.2 and audiobook troubles

I was using firmware 3.1.1, listening to an audiobook with no issues (audiobook was imported as mp3 files from multiple CD's - the media type was changed in bulk to Audiobook under the options tab). The book flowed fine from mp3 to mp3, in order.
Then I decided to go to 3.1.2 (I also recently updated to Snow Leopard) and the play order of the parts seemed to become random. The files still show up in the audiobook section, but do not play in order, even after renaming them all.
I tried to convert them in bunches to m4b files, and they still play out of order.
Is this an iTunes issue, or an iPod firmware issue? Is there a way to rollback to 3.1.1? I could only find 3.1.2 in my Library>iTunes>iPod Software Updates folder.

I have exactly the same problem although my audiobook playback was messed up by 3.1.1. Spoke to support in local store who suggested rolling back (can't do it either - also not in folder). Also suggested that way to check whether itunes or firmware was at fault was see if playback random in itunes. It isn't so I am assuming that the problem is with the firmware update. All was working fine until I installed 3.1.1 - I hoped 3.1.2 might sort the problem out but no luck. I hope Apple are taking notice of this because I am less than impressed with the accessibility of any support or even interest.

  • IMac 20 with firmware 1.0.0 and Airport problem

After searching the net and the forums here, I can't seem to find anyone else with this problem.
Since I experience some 1 gen intel mac problems, I thought I should update the firmware of my iMac to 1.0.0.
While this update cures some smaller annoyances, my Airport extreme card is not showing up at all. System profiler shows Airport Card as not installed. Restoring back to factory default firmware will show my airport card again.
    Anyone else with this problem?
I am step closer to invoking my warranty and making a case on this with Applecare, as I refuse to lay cat-5 cables all over just to get an brand new expensive computer on the net proper.

Firmware updates can not be undone. If you were able to successfully restore, that meant that your firmware was simply not updated, that the update failed. Once it has been successful, when it is tried yet again, a message will indicate it has already been done, and the process will not repeat.

  • Connecting WRT54g with Sprint aircard for desktop and laptop

I am trying to setup my router with my sprint aircard on my desktop so that both my desktop and laptop can get internet. Does anyone have an idea on how to do this. i have been trying for a week now and cant get it. I have read messages every where and people say you can do it. I just cant figure it out. please help.
Message Edited by dgrev16 on 02-02-2008 03:58 PM

you should be able to plug you desktop into one of the numbered ports on the back of the router, that will get the desktop going, if it has an ethernet port, now with respect to the laptop, is the sprint aircard for wireless web that you pay for monthly or your adaptor to use for the router, if you pay monthly for the sprint aircard that is good and you should be able to use the laptop anywhere you want and there is sprint service to get online, does your laptop have a wirless card built in? if so you could use that to get online, let us know what you have and we can provide more support.

  • Stuttering with Satellite MA605C (Canadian Edition) and Vista - Solution

Well, as many of you know running Vista for games is a pain on portables.
The big problem is the stuttering issue. We on the nVidia forums have found a solution to get rid of the stuttering, and that is to downgrade the BIOS to the 2.40 version from either 3.30 or the new 3.80 BIOS version.

    Hi
Thanks for the information but the Satellite MA605C is not known to me.
I have also checked the Toshiba Australian support website and such notebook is not listed there

What was the Sync settings specified on your PC Sync...two way sync or Phone to PC, PC to phone ?

  • DON'T Install Snow Leopard on early MacBook Pro with Firmware password on!!

I'm going to summarize my postings from yesterday because I don't want anyone wasting their night like I did.
Many of us who upgraded from Tiger created a Firmware password to ensure that people won't be able to wipe and re-install the HD for sale if the computer gets stolen. I also note that, like me, many have been suffering the recent won't wake from sleep issues that make it feel like the HD is dead. Sometimes it starts from sleep, mostly it's a real hassle to get it to wake up and when it does it's generally in safe sleep mode. I managed to find a "halfway" good fix for that issue by changing the sleep mode from 0 to 3 in the terminal, found a useful script by Googling the problem. Fixes 90% of my issues on that score. But I wanted to install Snow Leopard to "hopefully" fix that issue for good.
HOWEVER, if you have a MacBook Pro 2006-2007 model and the original install disc is still Tiger, WARNING TURN OFF THE FIRMWARE PASSWORD if you created one before you attempt an install. Otherwise you'll be completely stuck in black screen **** and you cannot restart from the Snow Leopard disc once you have it in, neither can you eject it because you never get that far.
The computer, after installing Snow Leopard just gets stuck on the grey screen for a while and then goes black. The computer will not boot from the Snow Leopard disc, Techtool Protege or Leopard disc and the BIGGEST PROBLEM is; you can't Zap the PRAM with firmware active to try and continue installation as some other posters have suggested. Basically, you're screwed.
To get the Snow Leopard disc out I rebooted in Windows and ejected the disc, then put in first the Leopard disc... didn't work... then rebooted, ejected and put in the original installation disc with Tiger, that did work but no firmware password reset!!!
The only solution was for me to wipe the disc, reinstall Tiger from the original install disc, which was the only one that worked. Once I could restart the computer again in Tiger, I was finally able to reboot from the Leopard disc and disable the firmware password.
Then I restarted, zapped the PRAM and using the Leopard disc, restored my machine to its former self with my Time Machine back up. Ran Techtool Pro 5 to fix permissions and rebuild volumes etc. and now have it working again.
I think I'll leave Snow Leopard for a while since I don't know whether the zapping PRAM works during install and frankly, don't have the time to go through this entire debilitating process again. If anyone does manage to get things running on the earlier MacBook Pros please let me know how it went!
Anyway, just thought I'd give people a heads up on the Firmware password thing... it's really a bugger on the older models because it wasn't originally included on the original install disc leaving you with no options!!

Sorry, just wnated to post a comment not question, wasn't sure how to mark it!

  • ITunes 8 MP3 encoder produces different bitstreams under XP and Vista

    Hello!
While organizing a new listening test for MP3 encoders at ~128 kbps VBR, I came across a significant problem in iTunes 8 and maybe older versions as well.
I have a 30 seconds sample file of Fatboy Slim's "Kalifornia" from the album "You've Come a Long Way Baby". The sample (as FLAC - you have to decode it to PCM WAV yourself) can be downloaded from the Hydrogenaudio Forums: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19682
If you encode this sample to MP3 using 112 kbps, VBR, highest quality, joint stereo under Windows Vista, the resulting file will have an average of 122 kbps. The same file encoded with the same settings and the same iTunes version under Windows XP will have an average of 191 kbps. I was able to reproduce this on three different machines with "clean" XP SP 3 and Vista SP 1 installations ("clean" means only the hardware drivers and all Windows updates are installed, no third-party software). It would be nice if other people could try to reproduce this if possible. Another interesting thing would be to see what the Mac version of iTunes produces.

    At the iTunes feedback page.
By the way, iTunes is famous for having one of the worst MP3 encoders.

  • Installing WRT54G with both Vista and XP OS Access

First, I'm a new member of this forum.
I'm am preparing to update to a new Linksys WRT54G router.  We have one computer (HP 8100N) which has Microsoft Vista Home Premium installed; but our other 3 computers all use Windows XP SP 2.   The Linksys WRT54 G and Linksys Router are all plugged into the Vista machine ---with one other PC (Gateway) and 2 laptops (Toshiba and a Dell) all connecting wirelessly.
RIght now things work ok --- but it's been 5 years since I've made any major changes.  However, I've experienced a rash of virus challenges lately and suspect somehow the router has been compromised; hence my desire to completely change it out.  At the same time, I'm not too excited about creating problems with the Vista and XP connectivity.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Apology to Forum if this is posted twice; it appeared not to go through the first time.
    Thank you very much

    Chris:
I have experience with both, Vista and XP. I use a MBP 15" 2GB RAM and I have had great success with both. I really no not overload my system. I have software to connect to the internet and full office 2007 Suite. So, mostly internet and productivity software. No major issues with either.

  • WRT54GS with Mac OS 10.6.8 and RCN cable modem not working

    Hello,
I have a Linksys WRT54GS, version 6 with Mac OS X (version 10.6.8) hooked up to a Scientific Atlantic cable modem, with RCN as the ISP.
Recently, RCN had some network issues, and so I had to power down and reset my modem. The modem is working fine now -- no problems at all when the Mac is connected direclty to the modem.
The router's network is OK in that I can connect the Mac wirelessly to the network, but I can't connect to the internet through the router (through neither the wireless or wired connection).
I have downloaded the latest firmware update for the router, following the Linksys site instructions, but this has not helped me solve the problem.
Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do? I did call Linksys tech support on the advice of RCN, and they said that the router does appear to be working (power, WLAN, and Internet lights are on), but they would be charging me nearly the cost of a new router to fix the problem.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Since you upgraded the Router WRT54GS with the latest firmware so once reset the Router and power cycle the whole network… Then connect the Modem with Linksys Router on the Internet Port and then connect any one computer to any one of the Ethernet port on the Router [Numbered – 1, 2, 3 and 4]… Let me know the RCN connection is a DSL connection or cable connection…
So if you have a DSL connection you can refer to this link:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=4020&userrole=Linksy...
So if you have a Cable Internet Connection you can refer to this link:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&vw=1&articleid=3686
As far as the wireless is concern:
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page…
    # Then Click on wireless Tab create the Wireless Network Name SSID and select the channel to 6, 9, and 11… Click Save Settings...
    # Then Click on Wireless Security sub tab and select the security mode and provide the password as per the requirement… Click Save Settings...
After doing the settings try to connect the preferred network on the wireless devices and check the connectivity….

  • Airport Extreme, Airdisk, and Vista - large file problem with a twist

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem moving large-ish files to an external drive attached to my Airport Extreme SOMETIMES. Let me explain.
My system - Macbook Pro, 4gb ram, 10gb free HD space on macbook, running latest updates for mac and vista, external hard drive on AE is an internal WD in an enclosure w/ 25gb free (its formatted for pc, but I've used it directly connected to multiple computers, mac and pc, without fail), AE is using firmware 7.3.2, and im only allowing 802.11n. The problem occurs on the Vista side - havent checked the mac side yet.
The Good - I have bit torrents set up, using utorrent, to automatically copy files over to my airdisk once they've completed. This works flawlessly. If i connect the hard drive directly to my laptop (macbook running bootcamp w/ vista, all updates applied), large files copy over without a hitch as well.
The Bad - For the past couple weeks (could be longer, but I've just noticed it recently being a problem - is that a firmware problem clue?) If i download the files to my Vista desktop and copy them over manually, the copy just sits for a while and eventually fails with a "try again" error. If i try to copy any file over 300mb, the same error occurs.
What I've tried - well, not a lot. The first thing i did was to make sure my hard drive was error free, and worked when physically connected - it is and it did. I've read a few posts about formatting the drive for mac, but this really isnt a good option for me since all of my music is on this drive, and itunes pulls from it (which also works without a problem). I do however get the hang in itunes if i try to import large files (movies). I've also read about trying to go back to an earlier AE firmware, but the posts were outdated. I can try the mac side and see if large files move over, but again, i prefer to do this in windows vista.
this is my first post, so im sure im leaving out vital info. If anyone wants to take a stab at helping, I'd love to discuss. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
Just noticed the other day that I am having the same problem. I have two Vista machines attached to TC w/ a Western Digital 500 gig USB'd. I can write to the TC (any file size) with no problem, however I cannot write larger files to my attached WD drive. I can write smaller folders of music and such, but I cannot back up larger video files. Yet, if I directly attach the drive to my laptop I can copy over the files, no problem. I could not find any setting in the Airport Utility with regards to file size limits or anything of the like. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

  • I have a WRT54G Wireless modem with firmware version 1.02...

I have a WRT54G Wireless modem with firmware version 1.02.1 Mar 4 2003. i down loaded the latest firmware for the modem but i can't install it. I get the erroe message"incorrect image file".
    What is wrong?

Which version of the WRT54G do you have?  If it is not clearly stated on the router, go to Wikipedia.org and search for WRT54G, then you can use your router's serial number to determine which version of the router you own.
The version of the router is important.  Each version has a different set of hardware in it, so each version takes a different firmware.
You can only load the firmware that corresponds to your model and version.

  • Scanning with Kodak i65 and Vista

    Hi,
I am having trouble 'Creating a PDF from Scanner' with a Kodak i65 scanner. Everytime I attempt to scan a document with Acrobat 8 and Vista I receive a scanning failed message. The 'Scan Validation Tool' scans documents fine to the .tiff format however when I try to scan documents with Acrobat 8 it doesn't work and I get 'Scanning failed.'
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I have the exact same problem. Except I have the Kodak i30 Scanner. I have Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 (with the Security Update 1 installed).
In the past, I ran the following configurations on an older computer with no problems:
    - Windows XP & Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0 (with all of its various updates)
    - Windows Vista & Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0 (with all of its various updates)
    - Windows Vista & Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 (with the Security Update 1 installed)
However, when I built a new computer, installed Windows Vista Ultimate, installed the Kodak i30 Scanner, I receive a "Scanning failed." error everytime I try to scan directly into Acrobat.
BTW, I HAVE "tried with latest Scan Validation Tool and firmware update from Kodak site." Updating the SVT and firmware neither helped nor hurt.
Has anyone had a successful fix to this issue?
