WRT54G2 Setup CD

Where can I find a copy of the setup cd for my WRT54G2 V1 router? The only thing I can find on the support pages are for the v1.3 router and the Ask Linksys was no help at all.

If you wish to download the Setup Wizzard, Click on Download this will download the setup wizzard on your computer. Once the download is complited, then you can run the setup on your computer and configure all the settings on your Router.

  • Please HELP! - WRT54G2 setup problem

Please help!   I have been working on this for 7 hours and I am ready to throw the linksys router out the window.  I have the router wired to a desktop computer with XP and connected wirelessly to a notebook with Vista.  No problem.  My third computer - wireless notebook with XP - is really having a problem.  I kept getting limited connectivity errors.  I set up a static IP address - and it says I am connected - but I can't acces the internet or email.  It keeps saying that I am offline.   Please help!!!!

It's a good thing someone else is having the EXACT same problem as I am experiencing. Also, you have the exact same set up I have right now. My desktop is wired into the WRT54G2 Wireless router while my laptop with Vista is running smoothly on the internet. Now, when I turn on my girlfriends laptop with XP and run the internet on it, the internet turns to limited connectivity on the whole network and eventually dies out. I have run many different settings to resolve the problem but I am totally stumped. I have even returned the router back to Best Buy to switch for the same one thinking it was an internal problem.. no luck.
I hope to here someone's input on this situation ejaneevans and I are having.
    Thanks.

  • WRT54G2 setup and using Linksys software

After installing the router and Linksys software (which had it's problems) I attempted to enter the setup using my browser and the address given in the instruction manual which I had downloaded from your site. This was 192.168.1.1. Although typing in this number produced the login pop up, when I typed in the default password, admim, I could not get into the setup pages. However if I used the gateway - advanced settings in the Linksys software I could get into the setup. I took me some time to spot that the address, when using the Linksys software was not 192.168.1.1 but 192.168.0.1. Is the published address in the manual wrong or is the installation routine incorrectly changing it.
Also when using the Linksys Advisor software selecting various options results in the error "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" - WHAT! If I don't quickly close the error box and close the option my computer starts to do all sorts of strange things and I have to switch it off as it wont shut down. Because of this I have had to uninstall the Linksys Advisor software.
    Anybody any ideas.

    Hi,
ipconfig shows the gateway as 192.168.0.1
My ISP is Avanti Satellete and I connect to their modem via my LAN socket. The modem is mounted outside and wirelessly transmits to a host station installed at a neighbour's house. Via equipment there it is sent through a satellite dish to Avant's server. I am (and did) supposted to get a 1Mb/s connection but at the moment their system is getting overloaded and they are in the process of updating their equipment to solve the problem. Because the system performance can be iratic it sometimes makes it difficult to know if a problem with the connection is my end or their end!
Where I live ADSL broadband is not available and and even dialup is not good.
The Linksys Advisor appliation works but some of the options (eg: change wireless security, for one) result in the error message "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation". If I don't cancel the message, and exit the option, the computer starts to do strange things and leaves me no option but to switch off!!
Because of this I have uninstalled it.

  • Setup CD, WRT54G2

I'm having quite a time getting an answer for this.
I have ordered a WRT54G2 router for my home network.  We have a satellite connection, 1 wired computer and 2 laptops and an Xbox 360 console with with wireless connections.  My 3 yr old WRT54G has been acting up lately, although a firmware upgrade a couple of days ago may increase its lifespan a bit.
I've read that Netmagic software comes with the WRT54G2 setup CD.  One Amazon.ca reviewer said his network was 'hijacked' by this software, he was not pleased with it.  All I want to know is this: If I run the setup CD, will Netmagic be installed on my system, or is it an option which I would have to CHOOSE in order for it to be installed?  Same question for the Trend security software.
On my old router, there was an OPTION to install the Norton firewall, which I did not choose.
So...when you pop in that WRT54G2 setup CD, what do you see on the screen?  Are there screenshots somewhere?
I do not want any extra software installed, I simply want the router and to keep my current network and security settings.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

OK, thank you to both of you for your responses.  (I was going to click the green check for both your answers, but the second one disappeared when I clicked on the first one.)
I must say, I was hoping for a different answer.
This is really poor practice on the part of any company, to force additional software like this, and really, Linksys ought to know better.  Needless to say, I won't be using the installation CD.

  • WRT54G2 - The story so far

I have closed the thread "WRT54G2 setup and using Linksys software", even though all is still not well, in order to create this summary here in the hope it will help others.
    The story so far:
Following problems with the installation of the WRT54G2 router and the Linksys EasyLink Advisor Software I have:
    1. Downloaded and installed the firmware update 1.0.03.
    2. Followed all the instructions for setting the router back to factory defaults.
    3. Reinstalled the router and the Easylink software.
For some reason on my Avanti Satellite set up the browser address to get into the router setup is 192.168.0.1
I can get to the setup using the Easylink software but I can't use a number of the other  options (like wireless security) as they still give the error message “Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation”. Nice though the idea is in its present state the software has limited use so I have removed it.
I have set up the wireless section via the browser.
So where do I stand now? The router works, however, after about 10 to 15 minutes the wireless section simply disappears. A scan for it shows it no longer exists. My wireless printer is also not available even when connected via the LAN.
The cure is to turn off the router for a few seconds then reboot it. It then works okay for as long as I leave it on. If I turn it off for a long period (overnight) then it will always fail to operate after 10 to 15 minutes, again, but okay for the day after a reboot. Very odd!
I have done more resets, reboots and reinstalls than I have had hot dinners but still end up with the same problems.
For interest I am using a laptop with a Celeron (1.4GHz), 1.5 GB memory, and an ATi mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card and Windows XP home with SP3.
I hope this helps others and someone can up with a cure for the routers odd behaviour.
    Regards

    Hi,
Today I gave up. The wireless side of the router goes off after 10 minutes or so. A reboot brings it on again and it then works okay for the rest of the time (can be on for hours) However, I do not want to leave it perminantly on so I have returned it to the shop where I bought it and changed it for a different make.
    Regards,

  • Airplay reboots my router.

    Hey guys,
I have an issue when I use Airplay through my iPhone4S, my router reboots after 30 secs or so.  I have a WRT54G2 v1.5 and the receiver is a Pioneer VSX-1021-K.
However, when I used Airplay through itunes from my laptop, it works just fine.  In addition, when I borrowed my neighbors router's(BELKIN) it was working fine also.  So this lead me to believe that it's my router that is causing the issue.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Tony

Let me know the ip address that you are getting from the router. To check the IP address that you are getting from the Router...
You can check the IP address in the following manner:
    # Click on Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt.
    # A black pop up box should come up, type: "ipconfig /all" …
There check the IP address and Default Gateway under LAN….
    Try the following settings:
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type “Default Gateway IP address” that will open up the WRT54G2 setup setup page.
    # Then Click on wireless Tab, select Manual and then create the Wireless Network Name SSID and select the Wireless Channel: to 6, 9, and 11. Click Save Settings.
    # Then Click on Wireless Security sub tab and select the security mode and provide the password as per the requirement. Click Save Settings.

  • Disable Data Port Connections

I have a WRT54G2 setup in the company. I want the unit to be used for wireless access only. I would like to disable the data port connections that are not being used.
Has anyone done this before or know of how to do so?

I thought of causing damage to those ports too. Maybe lLightly crazy glue in a few male RJ45's is another thought I had.
    Thanks again GV!

  • WRT54G2 redirects setup page to external website

I have a few WRT54G2 units that I am attempting to administer remotely.  When I try to access the setup page I get as far as the authentication popup and then I get redirected to:
    http://websearch.linksys.com/error_redirect_site/get_error_redirect?eg=0&job=natipaddress
A little background:  These units are all using indentical configurations and use the same IPs.  They are all setup in a DMZ in each remote site as Wireless Aceess Points and the necessary NAT policies are in place to allow setup access from my location.  I have many WRT54G units deployed in this same manner and have no problems.  If I am connected directly I do not see this issue.
Anyone have any ideas how to get around this?

Remote management is for allowing connections from the WAN port.  I have the NAT policies connecting through to the LAN so remote management doesn't apply.  Basically each site has it's own firewall (Sonicwall) and it's DMZ port is connected to one of the WRT54G2's LAN port.  The WRT54G2's WAN port is vacant.  The Sonicwall handles DHCP for the DMZ so all the WRT54G2 does is act as an wireless access point.  It does work fine with the WRT54G but we had a couple fail and we replaced them with these newer models which work in every every other way but this.

  • How setup a WRT54G2 Wireless Router to connect to a SmartPhone to Retrieve E-Mail

I have a new WRT54G2 Wireless Router and I can Surf the Web on my Smartphone via the Router but I am unable to retieve my E-Mail like I used to do with my old Wireless Router.
Anyone know what setting I need to change on the WRT54G2 Wireless Router?

    Hi Richard,
    Welcome to the community forum!
Did you check the mail setup in your smartphone to see if anything changed? Check if the incoming and outgoing mail servers are correct.
A software update might have reset the settings.
If all looks good in the smartphone mail setup, do you recall if you had to open ports in the old router to make email work?

  • WRT54G2 v1 fv1.0.04 stuck in wifi protected setup? /unable to switch to manual

I just upgraded the firmware on a WRT54G2 v1 from firmware v1.0.00 to v1.0.04.  More or less everything was working fine before the upgrade.  I was surprised that it held most of the old settings, including the wireless settings.
The execpton is the problem, it now wants to run wifi protected setup.  I have always set this to manual.  Specifically under wireless>>basic wireless settings it shows two radio buttons in 'wireless configuration':  'manual' and 'wi-fi protected setup', the latter is clicked.  If I click 'manual' it brings up a message with a generic complaint stating that several wireless security settings are not compatible with wi-fi protected setup (including WEP, which is the current setting).  Fortunately my wireless security settings are acutally unchanged.
FYI, the box is remote, so I have not physically touched it.
How do I set 'wireless configuration' to MANUAL ?
    Thanks for your help.
    --Lloyd

OK, all I needed to do was reset to the factory defaults and then reconfigure.   Apparently the combination of old settings and default settings for new features put the unit a conflicting state.  --Lloyd

  • Wrt54g2-cannot access online setup page

after uploading the latest firmware today for my wrt54g2 i cannot access the web based setup page using 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 to verify settings.i can surf fine thru the internet except that page.please help

After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since your last firmware upgrade, please do this now and see if it corrects your problem.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
To view the router's web pages:
You do not need an Internet connection. The router's "web pages" are built into the router.
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
    JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is wired to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall.
Point your browser to 192.168.1.1 , then login to your router. Your user name should be left blank. Your password is "admin" (with no quotes), unless you changed it.
If you are using Zone Alarm, right click on the ZA icon in the system tray (lower right corner of screen) and then click "Shutdown ZoneAlarm", and see if this fixes your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: Open the ZAISS control center, go to Privacy, then temporarily turn off Ad Blocking and Cookie Control, and see if that fixes your problem.
If you are using Noton Internet Security with the Add-on Pack, be sure to turn off the Pop-up Blocker, and the Ad blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall the entire Norton Add-on Pack.
If you cannot get anything at 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not your router's address. Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key. Look at the "Default Gateway". Is it 192.168.1.1 ? Point your browser to the "Default Gateway", then login to your router.
If the above fails, disconnect your modem from the router, and try again. If this corrects your problem, then most likely you have a "modem-router" rather than an ordinary modem. Report back with this problem, and also state the make and exact model number of your modem (not the router).
If all of the above fails, power down your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait one minute, then power up and try again.
If all of the above tips fail, then reset the router to factory defaults: Power down the router and disconnect all wires from it. Wait one minute. Power up the router, allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes), then press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release the button and allow the router to reset and reboot ( 2-3 minutes). Power down router. Wait one minute. Connect one computer, by wire, to a LAN port on the router. Boot up system. It should work.
If the reset does not fix your system, then you need to download and install (or re-install) the latest firmware for your router. After the firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

  • WRT54G2 doesnt recognize my network card during setup

I am trying to setup my WRT54G2 router.  I  ran the setup disk and  I get a message saying "Can't locate  wired network adapter". However, my network adapter is installed  and seems to be working fine.   The network card is an NVIDIA nforce  networking controller.
Is there a problem with NVIDIA  not being recognized by Linksys ?  Any fix for this?
    Thanks

  • Question about the setup page for WRT54G2

I haven't really tinkered much on my router since I had a friend installed mine a couple years back but I did remember him saying to check for updates on it's firmware once in a while. I did just that but I came at a rather confusing point in my update... namely I found that you can acceess the page by typing in 192.168.1.1 in thhe browser but before I found that I ran into this site first:
    http://ui.linksys.com/files/BEFW11S4/v4/1.50.14/Administration.htm
I was somewhat confused as my settings werent being saved when I worked on the webpage mentioned above, so can anyone tell me if that site is part of the linksys setup page ?

that site is just a demonstration of what the Linksys router's administration page looks like. it's basically for instructional purposes only. anything you do on that page WILL NOT affect your router settings.
on the other hand, accessing http://192.168.1.1 will allow you to change your router's settings.

  • Wrt54g2 v.1 Setup Issues

Internet ISP:  Iquest (Under Lightbound)  - DSL
    Previous Router was a Belkin
    Speedstream 1500 Modem
Problem is connecting to the system as the older modem doesn't have all the connections as given in dsl instructions (3 slots in back - Phone, Ethernet & Power)
Before I spend more money on a modem I'd thought I'd check here.
Thing is it did work together for 2 days then a power out and I had to reconfig now the system is unattached and I'm back to a single user setup to do this message.  Windows updated itself yesterday and it required an restart - I lost connection through the router period.
    Thank you!

Check the IP Address when your computer is connected straight to the modem...
Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection and let me know what IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway you get...
