Wrt54G2 stops broadcasting

I have a shiny new WRT54G2 router, which I purchased to replace an older wireless B router which had occasionally dropped it's internet connection.  The new one has a bad habit:  If it's been running for a while and then I try to connect with a wireless laptop, it looks like the router is not broadcasting - a site survey does not show it's signal and I can't connect to it.  If I cycle the power on it, the laptop connects right away with a 100% signal and the router is seen in the site survey.  It's like the wireless portion of the router crashes or times out and stops.
I have it set up to use WEP security.  I'm going to try disabling that for a few days and see if it's better.  Any suggestions would be very helpful.  It's a V1 router and has the latest firmware: 1.0.0.1 build 3.  I'm using WEP because the laptop has a wireless B card that only supports WEP.  I have MAC filtering on, so I don't feel too bad about running without WEP for a while.
Thanks,
Jim

Update.....
No progress yet.  I've modified lots of settings, but still I can't connect to the router with a wireless device if the router's been running for a while.  As soon as I cycle the router power, the device connects with a strong signal.  I did find another thread on this exact problem with no solution.  Tonight I reflashed the firmware, but the version is supposed to be the same.  We'll see....

  • Linksys E3000 stops broadcasting wireless signal

    Hi everyone.
I bought a new linksys E3000 from Amazon earlier last week as a replacement for the WRT54G that I had for years. This was an attempt to move to 802.11 n now that all my equipments support it. I installed and configured the router through the web interface only and had the wireless on the 5.4G band set to N only, and on the 2.4G band set to N only.
A few times a day, I find my wireless equipments such as iPhone 4, Thinkpads, and latitude laptops to not detect any wireless signal at all. The router stops broadcasting. The only way I found to correct the issue, was to restart the router after turning it off for 30s.
When the signal is on and with simply one equipment connected, I find myself having the wireless signal, strength and speed varying like crazy, standing at 15 ft from the router. Every once in a while I would lose the wireless signal sddently for a few seconds while in a skype call.
I chatted online with the customer support and they had me upgrade the firmware to 1.0.01, which I already had on the router to start with, and they tried to reassure me that this would solve the issue. Same software, same isssues...
I have checked online and found reports of this issue happening to others but I could not find any traces of beta firmwares or anything else. I want to stay positive, but at this stage, I am actually thinking of sending the router back to Amazon as defective and move on to something different.
    Any thoughts on this?
    Thanks!

Wireless N mode on the router is only enabled when these settings are configured:
    SSID is unique.
    Mode should be Mixed.
Wireless Security should be WPA2 Personal.
Installing the router using the Software included in the package is an advantage because it automatically updates the router.
Firmware upgrade should fix your issue. To learn how to manually upgrade your router's firmware, click here.

  • Netgear WN604 stops broadcasting when connected to...

I use a Netgear WN605 150 Mbps 802.11n access point and it works fine in conjunction with a Netgear DG834Gv5 or a TP-Link TP-8840 router modem.  But if I connect my HH3 the AP stops broadcasting WiFi signals!  It takes a while for the HH3 to recognise the WN604 and I can then set a fixed IP address for it, as it requires. But when I try to use the WiFi  I cannot connect to it for more than a second or two!  I've got a utility called InSSIDer that allows me to examine the WiFi environment and see graphically what signals are present. The WN604 shows up fine when not using the HH3, with both channels stable and significantly strong.  But when the HH3 is providing the networking the signals are unstable from the WN604.  The trace shows as dotted, indicating it is not correct, and one channel disappears after a couple of second followed quickly by the remaining channel fading away to nothing.  The trace shows the signals were present fo less than 5 seconds!  BTW, the WiFi services on the HH3 are all turned off to avoid any RF conflicts.
It ONLY happens when the HH3 is in use and does not happen with any other router/modem.
So what is wrong with the HH3, which is clearly where the fault lay?

so i solved my own problem haha here's what i did incase anyone has the same issue
go to system preferences > sound > output > click on headphones then turn the volume up from mute
for some reason every time i reconnect to the uni wifi it goes back to mute. not the regular volume only the one through that pathway.

  • SBG6700AC stops broadcasting SSID

My new ARRIS SBG6700-ac stops broadcasting SSID for 2.4 ghz intermittently. Latest firmware from Comcast installed.  All power level check by Comcast and is OK.  5 ghz and hardware wire ports all work OK. Any advice?  Thanks Paul

The thing is though, the wireless radio is still working. I have no trouble connecting on my main network even when it's not broadcasting. I never lose my connection and all my devices still connect automatically. The only trouble that I can see is that my guests have trouble connecting because they can't find the guest network in the available connections. My network never goes down, nor does the guest network. The guests simply can't "see" it and therefore can't connect to it.

  • WRT54G V.5 - Suddenly stopped broadcasting signal.

Up until yesterday morning, my router has been working fine.  No new wireless devices were brought into my home.  All of a sudden yesterday evening my router stopped broadcasting.  All the indication lights on the router show it should be working.
I have tried upgrading the firmware already to no effect.  Any help would be appreciated!

Yes I reset the router after upgrading.  I also reset the router to factory settings and reset the router after that.

  • WRT54G2 not broadcasting

Hi, I've made a post before last year about my router not broadcasting eventhough that the settings are set to Wireless Broadcasting being ENABLED. I searched for the post and the problem hasn't been resolved. I cannot figure out why I can't get this to work. The devices that I am trying to connect are the Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii and iPhone. Neither devices are able to "see" my router. I've tried everything, I'm starting to think that my router is defective eventhough it's new. Please help.

Hi, yes, Wireless SSID Broadcast is set to Enabled and there is a name in the SSID field. Network mode is set to Mixed and Configuration is set to Manual. The channel is set to 11. I toggled between many channels and still nothing. I have properly saved the settings.
The security mode is set to WEP and a key has been generated. I even used Manual access point search on the DS and input the exact SSID and WEP key in the respective fields and it still cannot find my router.
I don't think I have a v1 model. On the Setup web page it just says WRT54G2. Firmware version is 1.0.04.
I just cannot figure out what the problem is. I even tried calling the customer line and they said that it's out of warrenty and they cannot help me unless I pay them.

  • Stop broadcasts on edge access switches to a port

I have a telco person wanting to put the management port of their phone switch on to the network in one of our remote offices. They say that it will not handle broadcast very well and it will cause it to reset.
So is there a way to limit the broadcast traffic to the port the phoneswitch is connected to. Or is there another way to accomplish this.
using switches like edge access switches 3500XL, 2900XL, 3550 etc and or small routers like 1700 series.
    Thanks.

See the storm-control command reference. A 2.0 threashold will allow 2% of total bandwidth as broadcasts.

  • Is it possible to stop broadcasting BTopenzone

Hi everyone so i got one of these old school hubs
    http://postimage.org/image/q3a36w14l/
And im broadcasting Btopenzone is there anyway to disable this.
I had 30 people connect to me about a week ago all from Iphones shows up when i log into my Hub
the ips all started with 10.???.???.??? (Thought that was for only Fon those ips too
I thought open zone was for like business places cafes and what not.
I dont have any of these nor am i a business user.
So if anyone got a little tips be very grateful.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi ksmiles and welcome
A BT Business hub used on a residential connection will only transmit BTOpenzone (now called BTWifi).
Residential hubs will transmit BTOpenzone and BTFon (BTWifi and BTWifi-with-fon).
To remove this you need to opt out of BTWifi and your hub should receive an update in around 48 hours.
Opt out using this - http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12958/c/346,1238,2694
Note: You won't be able to connect to other BTWifi zones for free after opting out.

  • Time Capsule stopped broadcasting ssid

All of a sudden my ssid is no longer broadcasting from my time capsule. I rechecked the setting to make sure that the ssid was not selected to be hidden and it was not. Ive tried to change the wireless transmitting channel and still nothing. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the discussion area, UnderTheCrates!
Have you done a *complete power cycle* of the entire network? That's the first step to perform in any situation like this. If you have not already done this...
Power down everything on the network, order is not important.
Wait a moment and start the modem first, and let it run for moment by itself.
Then start the next device connected to the modem the same way.
Start other devices one at time the same way.
This may not solve your issue, but it is an important step to perform in any troubleshooting sequence.
    Please post on your results.

  • Quicktime Broadcaster intermittently stops broadcasting/recording video

I have been using QTB to broadcast and simultaneously record live events lasting about one hour.
I am using QTB installed on a Mac mini. An Elgato Turbo.264 HD device is used for encoding.
Video feed is from my Panasonic AGDVC30 camera. Audio is input from the microphone feed.
Most of the time this works without problem. But intermittently, for no apparent reason I find that the video feed "freezes" and that last frozen video frame is both recorded and broadcast as a still image in place of live video. The audio continues to be broadcast and recorded just fine. So as a final movie product I often have a few seconds of audio and video followed by an hours worth of audio superimposed on a static image.
I need help determining what is likely to be the cause of the loss of live video. Do I have my video broadcast parameters set too high? Am I overwhelming the processors in my Mac mini? I don't even know where to start to troubleshoot this problem.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you read Broadcasters tutorial and FAQ website?
Ahhh, as a matter of fact I have. What's your point? If you have something in the way of help to offer I would appreciate it. Where in particular in the QTB tutorials and/or FAQ is there anything that deals with the question I've raised? If you could point me to such information then your input would be helpful.
I am quite familiar with the QTB technology. I've been successfully streaming live video for nearly a year. I have a specific new problem that I need help with. And as far as I can tell there is nothing in the Apple documentation that specifically addresses this problem. That is why I am here seeking help.

  • 1242AG when reboot stops broadcasting SSID's?

Need some advice, I have 2 SSID's set on the dot11radio0 interface each on a seperate vlan with mbssid set. All works fine. I can associate ok to either and vlan trunking is working. Whenever I power down the AP for any period of time and restart, the SSID's no longer broadcast. All interfaces are up up.

    Hi Julian,
    Unless I am missing something (no surprise:). It looks like only "homenet" is set to Broadcast using the "guest-mode" command;
    dot11 ssid homenet
    vlan 2
    authentication open
    mbssid guest-mode
    This one "avnet" is not set to Broadcast;
    dot11 ssid avnet
    vlan 1
    authentication open
    Hope this helps!
