WRT54GC - problems with eMac on network

I just got the WRT54GC router, and I'm using several computers on my home network:
router - 192.168.1.1
eMac - static IP - 192.168.1.7 - wired
WinXP 1 - DHCP - 192.168.1.102 - wired
WinXP 2 - DHCP - 192.168.1.103 - wireless
Win2k 1 - static IP - 192.168.1.4 - wireless
Win2k 2 - DHCP - 192.168.1.105 - wireless
The problem I'm having is with the eMac. It can ping the router, it can ping the WinXP 1 wired machine, but it can't ping any of the wireless machines. Likewise, none of the wireless machines can ping the eMac. However, if I load up iTunes on a wireless machine, it can see that there is a music share available, but it gets an error when it tries connecting to the share. I can access the eMac's music share from the WinXP1 wired machine, no problem.
I've tried pinging machines from the router, as well, and the router can ping every machine on the network without a problem.
So it seems to me like something is blocking the access between the eMac and all the wireless machines on the network. The WinXP 1 wired machine can access all the wireless machines, it's just the eMac that's having the problem. I've made sure the OSX Tiger firewall is turned off.
The firmware version on this router is 1.02.5.
Any ideas?

Try swapping the cables around.
Try switching the ports each computer is plugged into.
If the Mac is plugged into port 1 on the router, make sure DMZ is turned off.

First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.

    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.

  • Window 8 WiFi problem with Cisco wireless network

Anyone encounter a Windows 8 WiFi authentication problem with Cisco wireless network?
We are using WLC 5508, 7.2.111, and AP 3602i with WPA2.
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

This problem occurred with Soney, and Dell models.  Lenovo with Windows 8 factory installed is working fine.
Won't make any difference as these laptop's wireless NIC cards are different.
Can you try with OPEN authentication.  If the Sony and/or Dell laptop works, then you start cranking up the security and/or encryption settings until you break them.
I'm with Scott here:  It's got to be a wireless NIC card driver.
As what George has stated, post the debug of the failed attempts.

  • Homehub 3 problems with wifi and network - please ...

I am hoping someone can help me, as I am struggling to work out why I am getting so many problems with my network at home.
I have BT Infinity, and a Homehub 3A. I have had BT broadband for years. Infinity was added in Feb 2013. The HH3A is the original one supplied to me years ago.
When Infinity was installed I also added a pair of TP Link powerline adapters, to provide a connection to an unmanaged network switch in the lounge.
A rough outline of what I have connected to the router is:
    Wired
    - Synology NAS Diskstation
    - Win7 laptop
    - powerline adapter
    Wifi
    - 3 iphones
    - 2 ipads
    - Win7 laptop
    - 2 Win Vista laptops
    Powerline / network switch
    - Sonos bridge
    - TV
    - BluRay
    - Vodafone booster
    - SkyHD
Recently I am getting a number of different problems:
    1) wifi drops to everything connected to the router, at the same time, all blue lights are on the router
I lose wifi connection to the internet, from all devices, at the same time, but also the connection from my laptop to the NAS drops.
    2) Anything connected to the Powerline adapter is rarely available
I try and connect to Sonos, or my sky box or the TV, but they aren't connected to the router. The lights on the powerline adapters indicate everything is fine, and the HH3 has all blue lights. But my iphone and laptop cannot find my Sonos. My iphone app cannot find my sky box. And on the TV it says it is not connected to the internet. To solve this problem I have to power cycle the pair of Powerline adapters.
    Some observations:
    1) these problems are all since Infinity was installed. I have no idea if that is relevant.
    2) My NAS Diskstation has a powersave mode. I noticed last night that when I woke it up, the powerline adapters disconnected briefly, before reconnecting. But when they did reconnect I could not access anything connected to them. It was as if the NAS had booted them off the network, and then they couldn't get back on.
    3) I run a 10m brand new Cat5e cable from the infinity modem to my router, because the modem is in the garage.
Can anyone help? I am tearing my hair out with this.
    Thanks for any help.

If you set the devices on the home hub to always use the same IP address, then that can help.
The problem is that when the DHCP lease expires, the home hub often gives the device a different IP address, and this breaks the port forwarding rules.
Some routers allow you to specify which IP addresses are to be reserved, but the home hub does not.

  • Problem with Airport wireless network utilising a Time Capsule. No internet connection?

Right, I have an Apple Mac and I am creating a Wireless network with an Apple Time Machine. I have had both devices for approx 2 years, they have be fine to date - until I now have the following issue: The Wirless network has been created and can be connected to but that network isn't then connected to the internet. IN have checked with the Cable network provider Virgin and there is a network without proplem provided to the Modem - I have also connected an ethernet cable to direct to the Mac and connected to the www, no probs. I have also asttempted to reset and set up my time capsule / airport again howver the same problem arises. When I go to network Diagnostics I Have a green light for the following; Airport, Airport Settigns, Network Settings,Network Settings, ISP then an amberlight for Internet and server.....Please assist!!!! Is this an ISP address issue. Welcome any help, Thanks in advance. Jimbob

    Sounds like chaos..
How many outlets are we talking about and what specific equipment?
Do you really need routers on every one? How many clients do you use?
Basically there are three non-overlapping channels on 2.4ghz.. using more than three routers in the house is pointless as they will just interfere with each other.. range on 2.4ghz should be sufficient to reach at least half a normal house from one AP. If not there are better high power routers available.
And there should be just one device that is the main router.. all the other routers should be bridged/ wan bypassed so they are merely AP and switch. Otherwise NAT will cause issues to devices stuck behind a secondary router.

  • Experiencing three problems with Thinkpad T530 (Network, keyboard, and touch pad)

I bought thinkpad t530 2 years ago and gave it to my sister 4 monts age and recently she is experiencing few problems.
Before I mention any problems with it, I would like to mention that my sister hasn't updated software or driver for more than 60 days through lenovo solution center.
First, she cannot connect to a network (both wirelessly and internet cable).
The error says "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection 2 adapter"
Second, the keyboard is not working.
The keyboard works fine when it was in BIOS mode and the keys associated with Fn keys work fine too, such as                 brightness contorl and backlit keyboard keys. However, it seems like the keyboard doesn't work in Windows 7.                     When she went into drivers manger to see what was the problem,  it says, "Windows cannot load the device driver                 for this hardware. The driver may be computed or missing. (Code 39)"
Third, the touchpad and red pointer is not working.
Similar with the keyboard problem, the touchpad and red poting device is not working. In the device manger it                          says,"This device cannot start. (Code 10)."

    Hi Rbtlr0215,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing multiple issues on your ThinkPad T530.
For keyboard issue, check if the issue persisting in ‘Safe mode’ option. Check with uninstalling the Keyboard adapter from device manager.
For internet issue, check if the issue persists in ‘Safe mode with network’ option, Check with uninstalling the Wifi drivers from Control panel – Program & feature options.
For Touchpad issue, check with uninstalling the UltraNav drivers from Control panel – Program & feature options and restart the system, let the Windows install the generic driver for your system.
After performing all the above steps run thinkvantage system update utility to check for latest driver for your system.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Hemanth Kumar

  • Problems with printer and network connectivity

So I've been using an HP B110a photosmart wireless e-all-in-one printer that I got with my macbook pro and at the start, everything worked perfectly in terms of wireless printing, ePrint, and AirPrint. But recently, when I try to print wirelessly, it says the printer is not connected and I also can't find it on the list of nearby printers on the 'add printer' window. I also had problems with printing via ePrint but those have cleared up (I don't know what was wrong but it's fine now). Printing with AirPrint on my iPod touch has stopped working as well because the printer doesn't show up when I search for nearby printers.
    Here's what I've checked/tried so far:
All the wireless services are enabled on my printer and my mac
I've reset the printing system on my mac, printer settings to factory defaults
    Restarted mac/printer/iPod
    Restarted router
Reinstalled HP printing software that came with the printer
All software is up to date
Wireless printing on another windows computer does work
Setting up wireless printing using the HP install disc doesn't work
Trying to add a new printer using the HP software disc that came with the printer is unsuccessful in locating the printer as well.
    Printing over USB is problem-free
When I tried restarting the printer/router, I could see the printer for just a few minutes in the 'add printer' list but then it would disappear from the list and the printer would be 'not connected' so I can't print wirelessly.

  • Airport Express Problem with Wired/Wireless networks simultaneously

    Hello,
I'm having trouble maintaining a connection with my AX (2012) in a work environment.  Basically, I have a Win 7 laptop connected via ethernet to the internet/corporate net.  I have configured the AX to create a separate wifi network that does not connect to the internet. In order to connect to the AX, I have to disable both the Ethernet adapter and the WLAN adapter, enable the WLAN adapter, connect it to the AX's network, and wait for it to show up in the utility.  Only then can I re-enable the ethernet adapter for internet access.  Then, inevitably, the connection dies within 15 minutes and I have to repeat the whole process.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here?  Is the wired network interfering with the wireless network?  Is something configured wrong?  Below is the output from ipconfig/all, if that helps.  The AX is configured with a 169.254 range. IP address and behaves the same way whether the IP address is auto or manual, and there is no difference if the signal roams channels or is fixed to a single channel (I've played with them all).
Thanks in advance for your help.

Here goes - read this through completely and see if it makes sense:
    1.  Reset the Express to factory settings by unplugging it and plugging it back in while holding in the reset button - release the button when the light starts blinking - then wait for the light to blink slowly indicating factory default.
    2.  Disable the wireless and enable the ethernet on the laptop and connect an ethernet cable to the WAN port (the circle of dots) of the Express and use the AU toset it up in bridge mode to create a wireless network with a name of your choice - you don't really need a password but you can assign one if you wish - if you do not use a password you will have to choose to ignore the error message for no security.
    3.  Accept all other defaults and ignore any messages about not having an internet or ethernet connection and update or finish the setup - if you get a blinking amber light, open the AU and correct any error messages.
    4. You can now disconnect the ethernet cable and disable the ethernet on the laptop and enable the wireless so you can stream iTunes to the Express - the laptop must stay wireless to do this - you can not accesss both at the same time - you can also use an iPhone or iPad or iPod to use Airplay and then you can use the laptop via ethernet for the internet.
    5.  To access the Express from now on, you have to use the AU wirelessly from the laptop.
The above is assuming that you don't currently have wireless in your office - the other alternatives are:
    1.  To hardwire the Express and have it create a wireless network and access the internet - you could then use your laptop wirelessly or wired to connect to the Express and use Airplay and your pc at the same time.
    2.  If your office has wireless, you can set up the Express to "join" the existing network - you can then do the same as in number 1.
I hope this helps - everyone's situation is different - the above scenarios work for me - you might have to do some tweaks but the info is there - let me know if you have any questions.

  • Problem with wireless secured network in hotels

    Hello,
I'm a cabin crew member and I travel around the world almost every week. Since the update ios 6.0, my Iphone 4 16 GB doesn't connect automatically on the wireless secured network of hotels, while it worked before the update in the same hotels. My Iphone still connects automatically on my own home network, but I must ask every time to the help desk of hotels for manually connecting, by registering my mac adress on the router. Problems in Japan (Tokyo), USA (New-York, Washington, LA) and Senegal (Dakar). I'm really upset and Apple seems not concerned. Please help me.

    Welcome to the forum.
I'm not so familiar with Linux, though've installed and dealed with some distrs, but as far as i know they're mostly compatible with each other.

The manager software can not find the hard drive.
With you had this kind of problem and qu'lele is the solution?
I tried to contact iomega in France but no response.
I also began dismantling the drive to connect directly to my PC.
On the hard drive there are 3 Partition.

    A 20GB.
    a 911GO.
    No partition is accessible.
I tried another hard drive with NTFS partitiion, white light remains fixed and there is a steady red LED lights.
    If someone has an idea
    Thank you

    Hello fonfonse
To be clear, were you trying to updating the firmware on the unit?  If the unit has a flashing white power led after the update and it never goes to a solid state.  That means the unit is not booting and the firmware update most likely has become damaged.
If that is the case support in your region would need to be contacted about the firmware imager utility which would correct the firmware issue.
Some steps to try this reset method:
#1. Press and hold down the reset button for 4 seconds.
#2. Then remove the power cord while still holding the reset button.
#3. Wait about 5 seconds and then plug the power cord back in while still holding the reset button.
#4. Release the reset button after 4 more seconds.

  • Solaris 10 Problem with Intel board network interface

I've just installed Solaris 10 on my Intel board with integrated fast ethernet interface. Installation went smoothly, except for the networking. I've already followed the guide on this link http://solaris-x86.org/documents/tutorials/network.mhtml. The problem is, I couldn't find anything such as /dev/iprb0 under /dev directory (iprb is for Intel Ethernet 100 VE). When checking from interactive boot, I got this line:
pci@0,0/pci8086,244e@1e/pci8086,3052@8 (which is the device for the ethernet on the pci bus)
Since there's no link such as iprb0 under /dev, I checked the /devices/pci@0,0 directory, and found these:
pci8086,244e@1e (directory, and in it, it contains no device file)
    pci8086,244e@1e:devctl
My question is, how could I enable the network? Making link under /dev to pci8086,244e@1e:devctl doesn't seem to work. So I guessed there should be device file (ie. pci8086,3052@8) under pci8086,244e@1e directory. But how can I get this device file? Should I do mknod command? But I don't know how to get major and minor number under solaris.
Please help me... I am used to Linux, but Solaris is a totally different animal to me.
    Edgar

If you didn't get any messages about iprb iline value being out of range, simply run (as root):
    ifconfig iprb0 plumb
Otherwise run the BIOS setup and disable plug & play os. Then run the above command.

  • Mountain Lion problem with iTunes over network

I connect to my iTunes to watch movies over my Airport network. A movie will play for about 20 min then loose connection. I have to go to my host iMac with Mountain Lion and restart iTunes then reconnect on my mac mini downstairs which is running Leopard. A real pain in the bu##.
It appears to be shutting down my network connection for some reason. Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know what to do?
I will watch a movie using my appleTV and see if it does the same thing. Then I will know if it is realted to my iMac and not compatability with Leopard.

ok, I watched a movie on my AppleTV without interuption so it must be a conflict between my Leopard on the mac mini and Mountain Lion on my iMac.

  • Problems with DSL wireless network finding Airport Express to play music

Can anyone help me out here....
I have an airport express that I can not get my wireless network to find. I plug it into the ethernet to set it up then it reads.... "AirPort Utility was unable to find your base station after restarting. The settings for this base station have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the base station. You may need to select your network from the AirPort menu and try again." I am not trying to do nothing more then plug a powered speaker into it to stream my itunes to another room. Im not trying to use it as a bridge or anything like that. I am using a verizon supplied Westall DSL modem/router.

Hi. I think that you want to set up your Airport Express as a client to your router. The information is here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302153
Be sure to disable your WEP on your router otherwise your AE won't be able to communicate with it. You can restablish it when you are done.
Another point is that, when using WEP, the airport express might create a different HEX key than your router -- even if you use the same passphrase. Check your router's hex number, copy and paste that into the space provided in the Airport Express's admin utility.
Make sure that you identify your SSID on the Airport Express, too.

  • Problems with 802.11b networks

My MBP did not connect to my 802.11b home network as all my PCs do. So I upgraded to an 802.11g access point and now all the computers are talking to each other and the Internet.
But the MBP will not connect to ANY 802.11b network. I have tried several and no go!! All are unencrypted so no WEP issues. Am I missing something with the MBP or is there something wrong with the software. The configuration test window shows a strong signal and green indications for the top three lights (802.11b stuff) while turning red for the bottom three (actual connection related stuff).
I am a returning Mac user after 20 yrs with the PC, but this is very frustrating.
    Thanks for your help

I've connected to 802.11b networks with no problem so it isn't a general problem.
I'm not clear on what software you are using. What software shows red and green status indicators?

  • N8 Problems with Maps and "Network connection requ...

I started with German O2 as my provider.
So at /Settings/Connectivity/Settings/Destination I found O2 MMS for "WAP services" an O2 Internet for "Internet".
Now I changed my provider and probably deleted both "Access point" Items.
When I'm starting OVI Maps I'll be always asked:
"Network connection required. Define access point to connect?"
    And I can choose between:
    O2 MMS (already deleted)
    and web'n'walk (from t-mobile)
Why I can choose something, I already deleted it?
BTW: Problem exist from first version 011.012 till 013.016

Damn, just tried to post with IE9 but the forum doesn't seem to work on IE9 (final). So this time with Firefox...
    @aspergerguy:
I tried both of these settings, non worked in my home network.
Sill I got a solution that works for me altough not everybody will be hapy with it:
I did a soft reset and now the A-GPS works fine again. I did that because i remembered that the problem appeared after I sent my self a config SMS from my service provider with the internet access settings. That somehow messed it up. Still I can't find a difference in the settings for A-GPS, but that doesn't matter to much to me now that it works
Getting all settings right again didn't take as long as finding the error...
The thing that would be nice to get working is push mail on OVI. But that seems to be a longer story
