WRT54GL causing bsod only when an Mac ibook g4 connects wirelessly.

Hello all you tech gurus!
I consider myself a pretty adept pc user. I've built systems, installed wired and wireless networks, many kinds of peripherals, and so far, have not run into any problems I have not been able to figure out.
Here is the situation:
I set up a wireless network for a friend using a WRT54GL router with a firmware version of 4.30.11. There are only 2 wired pc's connected to this router using c5 ethernet cabling. The first and main pc (which is the pc getting the bsod) is a Compaq Presario CQ5320Y running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit. The second pc connected by ethernet is an ancient home built system running XP Home. Both pc's work well in all regards, both internet and non-internet items. There is an Apple pc (don't know the model of this one) that is connected wirelessly with no problems. These 3 pc's can all be using the internet at the same time with no problems what-so-ever.
The problem arises when a Mac ibook G4 connects wirelessly to the network. When the ibook connects to the network wirelessly, it causes a bsod (error code 0x00000007)on the Compaq Presario within 10 minutes of the ibook connecting to the network.(yes, I've researched that error code and ruled out hardware problems on the Compaq. The Compaq can run for weeks on end without any bsod, it only bsod's when the ibook G4 connects to the network wirelessly.) IF the ibook G4 is connected to the network via an ethernet cable, there are NO PROBLEMS with the Compaq. The Compaq ONLY gets the bsod when the ibook G4 connects to the network wirelessly.
Sad to say, I have almost no experience with Apple pc's and I am not sure if this is a router configuration problem or a configuration problem on the ibook G4. Remember, there is an Apple desktop connected to the network wirelessly with NO PROBLEMS.
If anyone can point me in the correct direction in trying to fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
Many thanks!
Chuck

Or you can assign a static IP address on the computer it self.
If it is a MAC computer then click on APPLE icon. Go to system preferences. Click on Network and select Ethernet. Go to Advanced settings and go to TCP/IP settings. Change the configuration to Manual and assign a static IP address to the computer.
If it is windows computer then open Network connections. Right click on Local area connection/ wireless network connection and go to properties. Click on Internet protocol TCP/IP properties. Assign a static IP address.

  • When using mac on a home wireless network it causes all PC's to lose internet access

When my Mac Books accesses the internet on our home wireless network it keeps all PC's from being able to acccess the internet.  Is there a setting on my Mac that keeps this from happening?

Your ISP gave you an Address that looks like a random number. That goes only on the Internet-facing side of your Router. mine is something like 108.72.155.38. If you have your own Router, that number is NEVER the Manual IP Address of your Mac.
Your Router has a "strictly local" number to which all Internet-bound  traffic is sent. Mine is 192.168.0.1 These are numbers at the bottom of a DHCP grouping., and almost always end in .1  Your Mac should never have this number as its OWN Number, but it may end up being listed as a Router Address. Typical numbers often start with 10. or 172 as well.
Your Mac should have a number similar to, but not identical to the other computers on your local network. Setting it to pick up a number (from your Router) via DHCP says, "just get a number and use it." That is often the best way to proceed.

  • Having trouble getting iBook to connect wirelessly after getting new modem

Ok so I got a new modem, and I put it in PPoE mode and bridge mode so that the internet would work with my router.
Internet is working great/fine on my PC that's wired to one of the ports on the Linksys, and internet works fine when wired to the iBook. I changed no settings on my iBook from before when the router was with the old modem/old settings.
    Modem: Motorola 2210-02
    Router: Linsys WRT54G2
iBook G4, I think it has the 1 ghz processor (bought it back in 04!) I am getting a signal on my iBook showing the wireless network at full strength.
I made sure that the router is not blocking anonymous request and MAC filtering is off, but it does not connect to the internet.
    I'm stumped help!
I used these instructions to bridge the modem:

  • Pavilion zd7000 starts in battery mode only; runs on AC only when connected to printer by USB port

My Pavilion zd 7379ea will only start up in battery mode. AC adapter appears OK with a firm green LED, so external power supply may not be the issue here? When I'm starting up (with what's left on the battery), both the charging LED and the AC LED are constantly blinking. When turned off, the battery LED is firm, and battery appears to be charging (but which obviously is not the case).  Occasionally, when computer is turned off, the AC LED is lit with a firm light.
One odd thing I noted before this happened was that the computer ran on AC only when my HP printer was connected to one of the USB ports (no battery inserted). If I disconnected the printer USB cord, the computer just died immediately; it was like the computer was powered by the printer. Later I also discovered that the same cord (where it connected to the printer) had melted from extreme overheating. I tried to update the USB drivers for each port but it didn't change things. I also tried to connect a different printer to get the computer started but it didn't work this time. I'd be extremely grateful for any comments that may solve this power supply issue (and if possible explain the stuff with the printer connection).

You unplugged a USB device while the notebook was still booted into Windows and on?
Normally that won't cause any issues but , If you did that you may have damaged your  system board's Southport chip.
USB is not a plug n' play port like SATA  and eSATA are.
Here is a link to the maintenence manual for your laptop series.
Is your notebook still within warranty? By the processor components listed in the manual,I believe it is probably not.
    best regards,

  • Weird Screen Bloches..only when backlight is on

i was watching a video one day then suddenly little pixels went grey and blocked out part of the screen. and they gradualy got bigger. now its about the size of a unpopped popcorn cournel. and it jumped to the right side of my screen. its weird cause its only when the back light is on that is it visible.
now the splotches are permanent and won't leave

I have the same problem. It started a month or so ago same as yours and has not gone away yet so I think its here to stay.
I noticed at first if I pushed on the screen where the line was at it would break the line up. Mine also has a line all the way across the screen about a quarter way down the screen right in a bad spot to view vidio. I was thinking of contacting that repair site that i saw someone posted, it says they repair the lcd screen for $65. thinking of calling them.
here is the address if anyone else wants to check it out.

  • Trouble connecting wirelessly only at home MacBook

At home Actiontec router connects wirelessly flawless when using Apple TV or this MacBook running Windows XP (via Bootcamp). Only connects to home network by first starting XP and then simply restarting to OS 10.6.6. Works good until any sleep session or restart; then must restart XP again (connects instantly) and restart back to Mac OS to connect wirelessly. No such issues connecting to any other wireless sites (libraries, coffee houses, other family wireless homes, or businesses)...no need to connect via XP first at such sites. No issues using router with ethernet except MacBook ceases to be portable.

So what happens when you simply shut down and restart directly in MacOS without restarting in Windows first?
I'm not an expert, but I can't think of anything related to AirPort that Windows would 'set' that wouldn't be 'reset' by then rebooting into OS X (although I know my own MacBook used to reset the internal time of day clock when switching from XP to OS X and vice versa, but that was with 10.5.x.)
Do you have a custom 'location' setting created for home, or are you using 'Search' for every wireless connection? You might try creating a custom 'home' location for AirPort and see if that helps.

  • IPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS won't connect wirelessly at home when PCs are off.

    Dear Apple.com,
I have been using iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS wirelessly at home no problems.
I use a MAC filter on an unsecured wireless network. Only entered MAC addresses can connect wirelessly.
However, when I turn off all the PCs at home the iPhone find the wireless network and show connected, but cannot browse websites.
The router Linksys WRT610N is always on, so the wireless connection and permission for the iPhone MAC addresses to access the wireless connection should work?
    Any ideas?

Is your router a model that supports a/b/g/n? If you turn off N will it work? If your N is setup at 40MHz slots it may not work as well. Can you take your wireless router somewhere else for testing? I assume you might have some issue where you are at with your Mac and that router. When you open Apple Menu/About this Mac/More Info../Network/Airport does it show your network there? From a working machine can you see your Mac from your router web interface? FYI if your router was an Apple product(Airport Express or Airport Extreme/Time Capsule) you could see all your wireless clients via the Airport Utility, even signal strength and connection speed...

That's an indication your Mac can't find a system folder to boot from.
Open System Preferences > Startup Disk
    Select:  MacintoshHD OS X

  • Mac iBook works with WRT54G v8.2 router only if it's not secured..

I've read that many people are having problems using their Mac's with the WRT54G router and no one seems to have a solid answer.
My router (v8.2) is wired to my Dell PC and it works perfectly. When I try to connect wirelessly using my Mac iBook G4, it says "invalid password". I've typed it in several times and have even changed the password and it still doesn't work. If I disable the security, I have no problems getting on. What can I do?
I've tried several suggestions other people have gotten and it just doesn't seem to be working. Many people said to do the firmware update 8.2.03 and that that has been the problem with the older models. However, my v8.2 already has it. Changing to different security modes doesn't work either. I don't know how to manually connect my Mac to the router either... is that an option? Also, my husband would like to use his iPod touch wirelessly as well. We can use both our Mac and iPod with other Airport Network signals we get, but we'd like to use our own (with security).
Please help! I'm not too experienced with computers...

Yes, it is a v8.2 router and so is the firmware.
From my research I believe I need to make sure my Mac iBook is using the same WPA method/security mode and shared key as the router. If that is the case I have no idea how to go about doing so. I have tried to find info on the net on how to know/change what my settings are. I'm pretty frustrated with the whole situation.
So my question is if I can't figure out how to have security and be able to connect with my Mac... is it just as good to make the router a "closed connection" (disable wireless broadcast) and use a wireless MAC filter so that only computers I have on a MAC list can connect? I've set my router settings as such but just want to make sure that it would be as safe as having security. Is there a way for people to get around my settings and still get my signal?
