WRT54GL connects via cable, but not wireless

I've got a WRT54GL that I connected via the ethernet cable, but when I try to connect wirelessly it can't. I've tried EasyLink Connect and EasyLink Advisor to try and fix the connection and "unwire" it, but neither were any help. I can setup my other machines to connect wirelessly, but not the main machine that I used to setup the router intitially.

Hi TWallace,
Are you using cable connection (Comcast,Cox) or DSL connection (Verizon,Qwest)? Were you provided with a username and password by ISP. Since EasyLink Advisor and EasyLink Connect did not work. You would have to manually configure the router. Aside from that, make sure that when you ran either the 2 software (ELA or ELC) you do not have any firewall turned on. Firewall disrupts the connectivity of the device running the tool.
Aside from that, when wiring your computer to the router and you've mentioned it works. Can you try to check the IP address? If XP, click Start > RUN > cmd, once command prompt pops up.. type ipconfig /all then look for IP address.
Thanks

  • Photosmart 7515 connect via USB but not wireless, Device not found on Network

Purchased a 7515 all-in-one, was able to setup wirelessly to MacPro but has lost ability to connect wirelessly.  This happened with OS X Lion and nor MountainLion.  Have a TimeMachine Airport.  Printer connects to network but during setup from MacPro, repeatedly get "Device Not Found on Network" after stepping through wireless installation setup screens.  I have reset router, printer, firmware updates, software updates.... at wits end.  I have followed the instructions on the below resource page link with no luck.  Use WPA-PSK encryption (Automatic AES or TKIP) on network and diagnostics on printer pass.
    Please help anyone!

It sounds like the Macs and the printer just aren't communicating.
If you press the network icon on the printer, does it indicate it is connected to the network?
I recommend two additional steps that are not listed in the linked document.  The printing system of the Mac may need to be reset as it will clear any software that could be interfering (such as corrupted installations).
Follow the steps as outlined for 10.7 or 10.8 in this document from HP.
The next step is to install the driver package from Apple.  This can be found here.

  • Other PC can access internet via cable but not via wireless.

Hi, I am new here. But I have a question hopefully someone can help to answer. I juts got myself signed up for one of those portable USB modem that you can use anywhere and you use a phone sim card to access the internet. I connect the usb device to my desktop computer and use a linksys wireless router to connect to other pc in the house. My problem is that the internet can be access by other pc's if I connect the other pc's via a network cable but no internet all if I connect via wireless. Any reason why it work via cable and not via WIFI? Is it the setting inside the router that is not set correctly. I pretty much left the setting on factory default except for the wireless network name. Any help to explain why this is happening is much appreciated. Thanks. Alex

Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device: - Open
an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on
the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' to select the
extracted/uncompressed .img or .bin file and click on "Upgrade"-Wait for few seconds ....
It shows that "Upgrade successful"  After
the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back
to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Reset the router for few seconds ....
    Reconfigure it ....

  • I'm able to connect via wifi but not via ethernet

I have a iMac, Mac OS X v10.7.5, and recently had a problem connecting to internet.  I can connect via wifi, but when I try connecting via ethernet it's not working.  When I go to the preferences > network, it shows "green" / connected for ethernet but when I open up Safari or Firefox, it doesn't show a connection to the internet.

Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

  • Can't connect via cable, but wireless works.

iMac, Leopard, iTunes, all current. AppleTV only shows up when I disconnect my ethernet cable. At that point my Airport base station (older version) makes the connection. If I turn Airport off in the OS, still no go. I've tried multiple cables too. I've also tried my Macbook pro.
I obviously want the wired connection for greater speed and since the ATV is in the room right next to the computer it's no big deal to run a cable. I swear I had this all running correctly under Tiger, but now I'm starting to wonder if it had been wireless all along and I never realized it.
    Help!

    Hi,
I had the same problem and this worked for me -
Go to System Preferences/Sharing and enable "Internet Sharing" where it says "Share your connection from" choose Airport and where it says "To computers using" select the ethernet port that you've connected the cable from the ATV to on your computer.
Go to System Preferences/Security/Firewall and if you've selected the last option "Set access for specific services and applications" add iTunes to the list by clicking the + and navigating to it.

  • AE Works with Ethernet Cable, but not Wirelessly. Please Help!!

I purchased the AE to run music streams via Airtunes from my wireless router/PC upstairs to my stereo downstairs. When I hook everything up upstairs with the ethernet cable, everything works like a charm, but the moment I remove the ethernet cable, the AE is not being picked up by the network. I set everything up for the wireless network (while the ethernet cable was hooked up) and have a green light on the AE, but when I try to use it wirelessly, it is blinking amber and not appearing within AirPort Utlity (only when hooked up with ethernet). I have a Westell 327W Wireless Modem/Router and could use some advice as to what I am doing wrong to get some tunes downstairs.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi:
I was chasing this very topic for a long while, then took a break.
You are suppose to be able to stream music from your PC to external stereo speakers via iTunes, thru an Airport Express (AE) wirelees connection.
    Here's my status:
It is pretty easy to get a wireless connection up & running so that you can play music from your laptop/pc to external wirelss speakers via iTunes, thru AE.
I have that up & running. The problem comes in when trying to add the Airport Express to an already existing Linksys router's wireless network. When setting
the AE up, you'll most likely get 4 error messages that have to be addressed before you go from from a flashing amber LED to a solid green LED. If you are just using Apple's ad-hoc wireless conncetion, you'll need to use Airport Utility to address the 4 issues. Basically, Airport Utility doesn't know how to address AE, since it doesn't have any IP address to a network. The other 3 are simlar problems. If you just tell Aiport Utility to ignore each of these problems, you will get the solid green LED on AE, and you'll be able to stream music directly from your PC to your speakers, wirelessly, once you finish the AE configuartion, and Airport Utility reconfigures the AE.
I have my HP laptop and printer setup with a Linksys 54G Router and Printserver,
so that the laptop and printer communicate wirelssly via the Linksys Router.
Now comes the fun...trying to add the AE to this already existing wireless network. I could get the AE to work when I had an Ethernet cable connected directly from a port on the router to the AE, but when I disconnected the Ethernet cable, the router no longer saw the AE in the network. I followed all of the instructions in the Airport Utility software, went seeking advice on this
newsgroup, the web, etc. Found lots of good information, but a lot of it was outdated.
I have my Linksys wirless network setup with WEP-64 encryption.
From what I have gathered, it is much easeir to add the AE to a WPA/WPA2 network, than to a WEP64/128 network, just because of newer protocols.
The problem that I have is that WPA encryption works much slower for me than
WEP encryption. Example: iTunes is roughly 60 MB is size. Downloading it
using WPA, results is a download time of 22-23 minutes; where a download
    using WEP-64 takes 75-80 seconds !
In the past, what I was trying to do was add the AE to my already existing
wireless network. Now, I have a wireless network for the AE. I want to try to add this network to my already existing wireless netowrk for the Linksys router.
I just haven't taken the time to try it yet. From what Apple tells me, Linksys makes this setup messy. The fact that the AE works by itself proves that the
    device is OK.
For a history of the problems that I have been chasing in trying to get the AE setup and added to my already existing Linksys router network, visit the following link in the list of "problems" on this Apple newsgroup's web page.
Search for the folowing topic title:
Problems Setting-up Airport Express to Play Music thru External Speakers
Currently, is is at the bottom of page 12 of this discusssion group.
The info in it may be useful to you.
Please let me know if you get yours up & running in the Linksys wireless
    network.
    Thank you

  • My mac mini will connect via airport but not via ethernet.

I have had a mac mini for several months which I connect via ethernet because it is in a part of my house where the wireless signal is poor. I changed ISP and now I can connect to the router wirelessly but not via ethernet. This doesn't seem to be a problem with the network as the connection works when I connect it to my mac book. Firewall is turned off. There were no major changes to the router settings other than changing the ISP login codes.
Any ideas? Is this a configuration issue or a hardware problem?

    Hi Mick,
If your router only supports 10/100 ethernet then it is possible that the auto-detect feature is not working properly to adjust to that speed. The mini has a Gigabit ethernet port. The OS by default sets the port to automatically negotiate the rate but it does not always work and the result is the problem you are having.
To fix it you wlll have to manually set the rate to 100.
To do this, open your system preferences, Select Network. Highlight the ethernet port on the sidebar, click the advanced button. Click on the Ethernet Tab, set the configure pop-up menu item to 100baseTX and click the ok button. If all works out you should see that the Ethernet port icon should turn green.
    Hope this helps.

  • MacBook Pro can connect via Airport but not iPhone or iBook G4.

Anyone have any ideas? My Macbook Pro can connect to my Airport (v.7.3.1, 802.11n) but not my iPhone or iBook or a Windows Computer or WiFi Blackberry.
The connection is strong and detectable by the ibook but "unable to connect".
Somethings up with the settings but not sure what.
    Any ideas?

  • VPN clients can connect via SSTP but not IKEv2 due to error 808

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 with RRAS configured to allow SSTP / IKEv2 VPN connections. I'm using an external certificate for server authentication and the client authentication is done via domain username/password (Protected EAP). The clients can
connect successfully when using SSTP, but if IKEv2 is selected, then the following error is displayed:
    Error 808:
The network connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be established because the remote server refused the connection. This is typically caused by a mismatch between the server's configuration and your connection settings. Please
contact the remote server's Administrator to verify the server configuration and your connection settings.
My external certificate has the Server Authentication EKU but not the IP security IKE intermediate, however it's the only
certificate installed, so I believe the certificate is OK.
Any ideas on what is causing the error?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
What NAT device you are using? You must configure the IKEv2 related protocol on your NAT device too. For example if you are using the Cisco® NAT device you must
enable the IKEv2 support on the outside interface:
Enabling IKE on the Outside Interface
You must enable IKE on the interface that terminates the VPN tunnel. Typically this is the outside, or public interface. To enable IKEv1 or
IKEv2, use the crypto ikev1 | ikev2 enable command from global configuration mode:
    =================================================
    crypto ikev1 | ikev2 enable interface-name
     For example:
    hostname(config)# crypto ikev1 enable outside

  • Can connect via ODBC but not via SQL Developer?

    Hi, all.
    My setup:
    Windows XP Pro
    JDK 1.6
    SQL Developer 2.1.1.64.45
I'm attempting to connect to an Oracle DB using OS authentication and trying hand-entry of the host and SID; and also trying my TNS file. When I attempt to connect via SQL Developer, I get the following error:
"Status : Failure -Test failed: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied."
When I attempt this same connection, however, using ODBC and Access, I can get right in and see the tables.
What can I try in order to get SQL Developer working correctly?
    Thanks,
    IVR Avenger

I'm not really familiar with connections Using OS authentication, but if OCI+TNS based connections work you could try to activate OCI connections by selecting
Preferences -> Database -> Advanced -> Use OCI/Thick Driverand then use the TNS connection type when creating your connection.
It should work well even with the thin driver but i cannot help you in this case because i've never had to use this kind of authentication.

  • Can connect via wifi but not by ethernet cable?

    Hi,
    I'm a bit confused here.
I have an airport express which works fine and I just bought an airport extreme.
The airport extreme is connected to the modem by an ethernet cable and the airport express is connected by ethernet cable to the airport extreme.
I am able to connect to the airport express wifi with all the computers but I'm unable to connect any computers to the airport extreme via ethernet cable.
Both airport express and extreme are lit up green and they both appear on the Airport Utility.
The airport extreme setting is set so that it is joining the airport express' network. That's the only way the light shows up green instead of flicking amber.
I've looked at the settings over and over again and am not sure/don't understand why this is? All I know is that I've got the wifi working! The ethernet connection is not workin for both PCs and Mac.
    Any help is much appreciated!

The airport extreme is connected to the modem by an ethernet cable
    On the WAN plug, right?
and the airport express is connected by ethernet cable to the airport extreme.
Why? You don't need AirPort Express anymore, unless you have signal weakness in your home.
If that is the case, you can use the AirPort Express to extend the range of the new AirPort Extreme WiFi network with WDS (Wireless Distribution System).

  • Able to connect via airport but not via ethernet since fresh install

New format and reinstall of OS X. Software update to 10.4.5. Now I need to use ethernet and I get an error. I did NOT have ethernet attached when doing the install.
This used to work before the reinstall. I have tried different cables and different ports attached to the D-Link router (I use DSL).
Other computers on the net (iMac G5 via ethernet and Windows via Wireless) have no problems.
I have tried the network assistant, renewing DHCP lease (which does not work), manual config, ifconfig up and down and even tried to reapply the 10.4.5 update but to no avail. I have even rebooted (Ugh) several times.

What now? - I really don't feel like reinstalling with en0 connected just to fix this
    Thanks for any advice

I would attempt to find a Windows machine to set it up as Samsung's Mac software is abysmal.
However I have found this step by step on an Amazon review, I don't know if it will work:
    1. Setup the physical printer machine according to manual. Then connect it your Macbook via USB. Make sure the printer is powered on and verify the Macbook is powered on with wireless network Access.
    2. Insert the supplied software CD and double click on the CD from your desktop.
    3. Double click and execute to Mac_installer folder >Installer OS X icon.
    4. Complete the license agreement and installation steps.
    5. This will be a standard install without the wireless option. This is your only option. You will not be given a chance to do the wireless installation like in the Windows version install.
    6. Enter in the admin password to install the software.
    7. Once the software confirmation screen pops up to confirm your installation was successful, proceed to DISconnect your USB connection to you Samsung Printer.
    8. In case you missed it, Disconnect the USB connection between your Samsung printer and Macbook.
    9. Navigate to Applications > Utilities >Print Setup Utility  (For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7) Navigate to Applications > System preferences > Print & Fax.
    10. Click Add on the printer list (For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7, click the PLUS sign) and new display will pop up.
    11. On the "Default" Tab of the pop up display, select or highlight the Samsung printer. In the printer name column, it should be listed as "Samsung ML-2160 Series (NNNN)", then in the Kind column, It should be listed as "Bonjour"
Note: DO NOT select the Samsung Printer with the "USB" in the Kind column. This Samsung printer - USB option should only be selected if you intend to print from USB.
    12.  Click ADD, then select continue to create the print queue.
    13.  Now open up any word document with text and print a test page.

  • Can connect via Ethernet but not via AirPort

I'm having some problems using my AirPort in Germany. I can connect just fine using an Ethernet cable direct from the modem (NETGEAR DG632B) but when I have plug the Ethernet cable into the AirPort I can't connect. I beleive it has to do with PPoE settings, which I am not really familiar with.
There are three spots I can enter my account info. 1, on the modem itself via Safari; 2, on the AirPort via AirPort Admin Utility; 3, on the Mac via Network Preferences. I have input my PPoE username/password into the modem while directly connected. I would tend to think that this shoudl be it and that everywhere on the LAN side of the modem would be able to utilize that account. The NETGEAR settings page shows the ADSL port Network Type as PPPOE and the LAN port as DHCP, so I have attempted to set up my AirPort and Network prefs using DHCP. That leads to "You are not connected to the Internet. Safari can’t open the page “http://www.google.com/” because your computer isn’t connected to the Internet." Network Diagnostics shows green at AirPort, AirPort Settings, Network Settings and ISP. It initially shows yellow at Internet and Server which lead to "Failed" on both. Network Diagnostics then asks me to choose my network port configuration (Built-in Ethernet, Internal Modem, Airport,Other). I select AirPort and select my AirPort network. Then all the Status lights except for AirPort turn red and asks if I use a DSL or cable model. I select yes, it asks me to restart the device, I do, it asks if I can restart any other devices, I select no. At that point Network Diagnostics says it is unable to connect to the Internet.
I have down-graded to Airport Firmware v5.5.1 as some have advised. No change. I'm running MacOS 10.4.6
My AirPort is just fine as I can use it to set up a LAN with no problem. I even pulled out my old Graphite base station and tried it. Same thing.
I have tried putting my PPPoE account info into my AirPort, my Network prefs both individually and both at the same time. Nothing. Is there something that I'm missing?

You'll need to connect your modem to your AEBS WAN port, configure your AEBS with the Airport Admin Utility, setting up the PPOE to properly log into your modem connection.
You should set up your mac to us DHCP (not PPOE).
THis should allow you to use either the ethernet port or wireless from your AEBS.
    I hope this helps!

  • I can home share to Apple TV via ethernet but not wireless.  Please help!!

This has been driving me mad for a week now. I have an acer Laptop using windows vista. When I connect the Ethernet cable to my rout and laptop, home sharing works fine. But as soon as I disconnect and go wireless, Apple TV cannot find my library. My partner has a HP laptop that operates on windows xp. That works fine. can anyone help and give me a step by step guide with what to do? I've checked every apple forum on the matter and nothing seems to work. I figure it's got something to do with my wireless Internet settings. It can't be the router if my partners library shares ok, right?? I've uninstalled macafee and even turned my windows firewall off. But surely these weren't problems in the first place if Ethernet connection works?!? Am not very tech savvy, so any simple things to check would be SO appreciated.

Homesharing should work over ethernet too, ask your network provider about homesharing, it may be that the university doesn't allow it.

When trying to access the server suing SMB instead of AFP (using the same credentials) it connects fine.
The issue with SMB is that for some reason, some of the folders wont show through SMB (no idea why)
The problem is affecting one imac on Mavericks and two Mac Pros on Mountain Lion.  If i attempt to login using SMB on any machines which work fine with AFP, they will connect but after that, they wont revertback to AFP.  They get the same error as above.
Any idea whats causing this?If any of the above causes confusion, feel free to shout at me and i will try to clear anything up.
    Really appreciaste the help guys!
