WRT54GL Loses It's Mind When it Loses Power

I bought a WRT54GL router about a month ago. Since then we have had two power outages. One was only about 3 seconds, but the other was a couple of hours. Both time it caused the router to stop talking to my cable modem. The first time I reset the router and the modem and it began working again. The second time that didn’t work and I had to also, spoof the MAC number from the computer.
This is very annoying. My old LinkSys router (version 2 of the original) never had this problem. What’s wrong and is there a way to stop this from happening.
FYI the time the power was off for hours I unplugged the router until it came back on – actually ‘til the next day, about 5 hours after it came back on.

Tonight when I got home I switch outlets the router power module was plugged into – unplug from one outlet and plug into the BackUPS power supply in less than 10 seconds. This caused the router to lose its mind again – this makes three times in as many weeks. This time what I did before didn’t fix it. I ran their Adviser utility, and after screwing around for 10-15 minutes it told me the internet wasn’t working. No kidding, that’s why I ran it in the first place.
I called LinkSys tech support. They put me on hold for an hour and then disconnected. I called back and went through their tone jail again. This time I got a person who couldn’t speak nor understand English. She’d never heard of Houston and had me spell it, then had me confirm it by spelling it back “h as in Hotel, o as in Oscar, . . .” She hadn’t heard of FireFox, insisted I locate and start IE, and wouldn’t accept failing to reach Google was a test, insisting I try Yahoo. Then asked me to “get behind my screen.” I tried about ten times to figure out what she really wanted, but could never understand her and finally hung up.
I’ve spent my entire Sunday evening trying to get this router working, after spending a whole morning a couple of weeks ago and 2-3 hours the second time it lost power. The day I started this thread.
Apparently any time you remove power from this router it goes belly up.
I think it’s too late to return it, but I’m fed up with it. I don't remember having any of these problems with my BEFSR41 in the seven plus years I used it.

  • Slate 500 loses power when undocked

I have a Slate 500 that loses power whenever it is removed from it's docking station.  This began occuring after I used to HP supplied recovery disks to restore the tablet to it's original WIndows 7 Pro setting.  I had installed WIndows 8 on the tablet but did not like the response time...however I was able to use it away from the docking station with a problem when WIndows 8 was installed. The problem started when I reverted back to WIndows 7.  Am I missing a driver that activates the battery? I need help in resolving this. Thanks.

  • MOUSE Loses Power When SCROLL WHEEL is used, power back up when CLICK SCROLL WHEEL. FRUSTRATING.

Whenever I scroll using the scroll wheel with this Belkin USB MOUSE my mouse loses POWER and becomes unresponsive.  It only regains power when the SCROLL WHEEL IS CLICKED.  It works perfectly on other hardware so I know that it's this TOSHIBA LAPTOP or an UPDATE thatis the PROBLEM.   I do NOT use the touchpad because they are inferior to mice when working with graphics.  Is there some kind of conflict here?  How do I PERMANENTLY disable the touchpad--it's completely and utterly useless to me compared to a mouse and just makes me angry and I really want to be able to use the scroll wheel on the MOUSE without it turning on and off and on and off and on and off.  This is a very recent issue that hasn't plagued me until recently maybe within a week or two. Note when this happens it flips between the synaptics touchpad and the mouse for CURRENT SELECTED INPUT DEVICE, regardless of WHETHER OR NOT I have it set to disable touchpad when usb device is plugged in, so I don't need to try that step. Thanks!

I haven't heard of the scroll wheel issue anywhere else (mine is fine), but the blank picture issue is known.
Myself and many others have experienced it, definitely a software bug.

  • I downloaded the new 7 update and now my iPad won't charge to 100% and loses power even when not in use ?

i downloaded the new 7 update on my ipad. it now will not charge to 100% and loses power even when not in use. any solutions ??

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
Then plug it in and let it fully charge.

  • Zen Micro lose Power when Switched OFF??

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem as me. I fully charged my Zen Micro last night and then left it and just switch it on for the first time now (8 hours later), and the battery indicator shows 2 bars left?
Seems like the Zen Micro loses power even when switched off!?!
Can anyone confirm that this is the case and whether I can do anything to stop it from happening? Is this normal with Hard Dri've MP3 player or only with the Zen Micro?
    Thanks.

<EDIT: (April st, 2005):<<FONT color=#330000>JazzMC has taken the initiati've and written a sort of FAQ and put together a website with all the information to date gathered in one place regarding this power drain of the Zen Micro while off (in standby). It's a great read for those who want more information about the subject and probably easier than wading through this thread.<FONT color=#330000>You can view the document by clicking here: <Zen Micro Power Loss<. <FONT color=#330000>Thanks JazzMC!
Ditto here. I did do a disk cleanup last week and the micro seems to be holding it's charge longer now. It's still draining the battery while sitting idle though according to the bar indicator, but slower (go figure?). This is my only real issue with the Zen Micro as I love it otherwise!
One wierd thing I noticed was I charged it full then left it sit for about 3 days (checking it off and on) then on day 3 it was at one bar. So I plugged it into my home sterio and turned it on to see how long it would play for. I was really surprised to see it last a few minutes shy of 9 hours...
Could this be a battery calibration thing instead of it just loosing charge? Like the meter misreads the batteries actual charge over time instead of it loosing power?
Donno it's wacky, please fix Creative!

  • Lose power when remove AC but battery shows partial charge?

When i unplug my PB G4 it loses power and immediatly shuts off. However when it is on, it shows that the battery is 67% full. Is this a battery issue or something bigger.
Some other things i noticed also is that when in sleep mode i can umplug it without it shutting down. It only shuts down when i open it up. Also the battery seems never to charge. It slowly over time is going down. It started at 90+ percent and a month later is is at 67%. Also it never seems to be able to calculate how long the battery will last, it only shows the %.

    is this a bug?
i have rebooted the machine fine and it works no problem but it seems
when you lose power to the machine it all goes bad..

    ok,
when i set them up i did run ldm add-config initial and reboot.
having more of a poke around and it looks like when the t2000 loses power and then comes back it is set to use factory-default config
    t20005# ./ldm ls-config
    factory-default [current]
    initial
so i then set it to use initial config and reboot and it comes back fine

  • Ipod loses power when turned off?

  • Windows 8.1 in Bootcamp on iMac27 - USB Joystick loses power?

I have a Saitek joystick I use for flying games. It works great on my ancient Dell XP machine.
However, having bought a 27" iMac last week, installed Windows 8.1 in Boot Camp on it - the joystick loses power after a minute when I'm in a game.
I'm not sure if the power even stays on the joystick long enough for a game (such as Battlefield 3) to see the controller.
    It's USB.
Right now, the same USB port on the iMac is charging my iPhone just fine, sync too. So, the port is good and the joystick on another system is good - just don't know why the lights go out on the stick and it becomes "dead" as it were?

I would suspect the win8.1 driver more then I would tink bootcamp or the imac being the issue
usb in general should not require more then 5volts and 0.5Amp
you can try connecting a power usb hub (this is a device which have 1 connector it connects to the port on the computer and then have several ports you can connect other usb devices to)
if that also "loses" power then you know it's not a power issue but a driver issue
driver for the joystick or driver because you did not install the require apple drivers for windows made in bootcamp in osx

  • MacBook Pro suddenly loses power, returns after a few seconds

    Hello,
I have an issue with my MacBook Pro, in that it sometimes (once or twice a day) completely appears to lose power.  The screen goes black, and also the keyboard illumination goes out.  It looks like a complete loss of power.  However, after a few seconds, the machine can be awoken again, and nothing has been lost.  The only thing I have noticed when this happens is that the wifi connection seems to sometimes - but not always - drop.
Could anyone help me is to what could be the problem?  My previous MacBook had a problem with the screen connection, but given the keyboard lights going out it has the impression of a power or sleep issue.
    Thanks in advance.

  • New MBP 17 C2D - Machine loses power in sleep mode

Just got my machine so not a lot of usage, but I noticed it ran out of power yesterday. Charged overnight - it was in full charge at noon. Unplugged and used for a few minutes - put to sleep for an hour. Came back and it was at 92%. Used (lightly) for about an hour and battery went to 60%. Put machine to sleep, packed in suitcase and drove for 2.5 hours. Awoke machine and power down to 20%. Clearly either (1) it loses power in sleep or (2) it is waking up on its own and losing power. Only other thing I noticed is that I left parallels running internet explorer when machine put to sleep, and it had shut down (no message but app closed) when machine awoke.
    thoughts

Try cycling the battery a couple of times by normal usage and see what happens. I remember this happening to me once as well when I first got my replacement MBP battery (due to the massive recall of Sony batts). After cycling the battery a couple of times by normal usage, it held its charge quite well I must say.

  • Video software cause Mac Pro to lose power

My Mac Pro has begun doing something very strange. On Mac OSX Snow Leopord or Lion, when using video conversion software (HandBrake or MacX Video Covnerter) My Mac Pro acts like it los power from the outlet as my UPS connected via USB starts alarming. If I let the software continue to run my Mac shuts down. It never did this before and I recently did a clean install of both OS versions and the software.I have tried disconneting the UPS and my Mac stills shuts down. I have also reinstalled the two video conversion softwares with the latest version and get the same results.
I could use some serious help here.

...and the overheading may be caused by dust.  So when was the last time you blew the dust out?
Also, would go get the same overloading problem if you bypassed the UPS?

  • Battery loses power while sleeping

my battery seems to lose power, about 15% or so, while its in sleep mode over night. is this normal?

I've had my PB for a little over a year now, and I almost always let it sleep overnight. Up until recently, it would lose about 5% power overnight and I would leave it plugged in all day when I was at work. In the last couple weeks though, it has started losing more like 10-15% power overnight! I haven't made any major updates or anything.
I just read a couple things: number one, your PB should not be plugged in ALL the time. Number two, you should re-calibrate the battery "every few months" according to Apple. I have only calibrated my battery the initial time and one other time, about 4 months ago. So I think it's time to re-calibrate. I'll let y'all know if it helps!

  • Laptop loses power and won't boot

I have an Aspire V5-573G running Windows 10 Home 64bit, but I experienced the same problem while running Windows 8.1 Home 64bit.
I leave the PC on or off, come back a few hours later. The power indicator light don't shine if left off, shine orange if left on. The charging indicator lights blue if charging, else not.
I press the power button, both lights turn off and it does not boot.
I tried holding the power button down for 30 seconds, disconnect and reconnect the power adaptor, tap the power button, etc. The laptop seems dead.
I open up the laptop and disconnect the battery and reconnect it instantly. The laptop boots.
This issue repeats itself every time and it does not matter whether I have it connected to the power adaptor, leave it on or off, sleep mode or awake.
Since the lights do shine until I press the power button to wake/boot it up, I'm assuming it cease to respond once I do press the power button.
    Help?

After additional tests I've noticed the following:
The hold-power-button-for-30-seconds trick works if, and only if, the battery is disconnected. When the laptop loses power as described in the original post, and the battery has been disconnected, I disconnect the power adaptor, hold the power button for 30 seconds, connect the adaptor and the laptop boots.
If the battery is connected, this trick does not work.

  • OXYGEN61 LOSES POWER

Plug in the controller everything works fine Logic & MAC both register & recognize device. Once I press play on an arrangement and/or track in LOGIC the keyboard #'s window starts displaying numbers then loses power shuts down.
ANY idea if this is an MAUDIO problem or LOGIC problem. I am ready to return cntroller and try the AXIOM61.
Any help is gladly appreciated. Going on 2 weeks now with problem

    Hi
I have an Oxygen 25 and was having a similar problem. I was told by Apple and by M-Audio that the USB might be split up too much. When an external USB adapter is used that splits up the available bandwidth bt the number of devices. I then tried hooking the Oxygen directly to the USB on the computer. That did not help. I then noticed that I had ny Korg PadKonteol shut off. All was fine after I turned it on and restarted the computer. I have not had any issues since. One other possibility is the USB adapter is not of the powered type and that can also cause many problems. I hope this helps!

  • Mouse loses power

I have been using a couple of different types of wired optical mice (Logitech and Razor) on two types of Macs (G4 and Mac Pro desktop)running 10.4 and experiencing a problem where the mouse suddenly loses power. The computers are not networked with each other. To get the mouse to work again I need to unplug it (they are USB mice) and plug it back in again. Any idea what is causing this problem?

Digging into my way back machine, I do remember having this once on a G4, iirc, I fixed it by using Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
Disconnect the USB cable from any UPS so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
