WRT54GL Not issuing DHCP to Laptops

Hello
I have a WRT54GL V1.1 with Firmware v 4.30.2
I have it serving 2 TIVO boxes wirelessly with it serving up a DHCP IP address
It is not broadcasting the SSID
I have 2 XP Dell Laptops that will connect to the service but do not get a IP address.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Mark

Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on "Wireless" tab and make sure SSID broadcast is set to Enable...If it is disable Enable it, if it is Enable changed the network name/ssid and give it a new name...leave the security to wep and see if you can locate your new SSID on your tivo...
WPA does not work because your old adapters does not support WPA...

I've got a 2106 that I'm installing for a customer and having issues with it assigning DHCP to WiFI clients.  What's odd is that this was working at one point at home during testing.  Only difference at this point is LAN hardware at the customer location.
Simple config-  single flat vlan on Cat2960G switch, ASA5505 serving up DHCP for the network.  Wired clients are receiving DHCP fine.

I've run dhcpd debug on both the controller and the ASA and I see the DHCPD requests on the controller, but I never see them hitting the ASA.
I don't have the specific version of code it's running, but I know it's 6.0.  One of my local Cisco account engineers found some Cisco CSC bugs referencing this issue.  One TAC cas even referenced stripping all security off the WiFi, connecting the client and then reimplementing the security again.
Anyone have any suggestions?  I'm hoping to head back over there again this afternoon to do some more troubleshooting and hopefully solve this for them.
    Thanks!
    Mike

In this case, the controller is not currently configured as DHCP server, although I may be trying that this afternoon.
I've currently got DHCP proxy enabled and am pointing it to the ASA5505 (192.168.0.1)- I thought I mentioned that in my previous post.
Please keep in mind this was working fine at one point in my lab while I was testing it, then I shut it down for a couple weeks while I waited to install it at the customer site.  I've even tried resetting back to factory defaults and reconfiguring it to see if I'd accidentally misconfigured something.
I don't have the exact version, but I do know that I'm running a 6.x code rev.  I'm probably going to just upgrade to 7.0 this afternoon and see if that makes a difference.  If not, I'll try enabling the internal DHCP server, but I don't want to do that if I don't need to.  Just one more thing to worry about managing for the customer.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • HH5 won't issue DHCP addresses to new devices

My HH5 has stopped issuing DHCP addresses to new wifi  devices. It not a problem on laptops etc, as manually entered addresses work but it's a no go for smartphones.  Existing wifi devices continue to work ok.
I've reset to factory settings twice with no luck but trying another router linked to my old white VDSL modem works fine.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks, Roger

This is not a large scale deployment.
If you want to test & see the difference you can create DHCP pool either on your DHCP server or WLC connected switch.
It does not make sense defining DHCP at different places if you have a proper DHCP server. (typically WLC DHCP use for guest services where WLC placed in a DMZ where no direct connection with other corporate services & from security perspective you do not won't to mix these traffic with your corporate traffic)

  • Strange issue with some laptops only getting local...

Hi everyone, this is a long post so appreciate you reading it.
The problems not my house (im a BT infinity user) but my Dads,
Long story short, he has 4 laptops which have always connected to the homehub and internet fine. Its an original V.1 homehub I believe.
After some local exchange work which BT informed him about, once it came back online he can only connect one laptop to the internet
All 4 connect to the home hub, but 3 only have local access and cant see the internet. The home hub is definitely connecting to the internet, no issues and one laptop still works. Cant find anything unusual on the homehub.
I have tried everything, resetting back to factory, removing/changing security, changing SSID, removing all traces from the laptops that don’t work of the connection then resetting the homehub again, even deleting all devices out of the homehub and letting them reconnect for the first time but nothing works. Whatever I change though, the original laptop always connects to the internet.
Even connecting one of the laptops via Ethernet doesnt work (although I didnt personally do this and am relying on my dad confirming this, so need to recheck)
I am bringing down an old home hub I have and I pretty sure that will fix it, as I took one of his laptops home and it connects to my homehub fine, but im desperate to know why this is happening. I cant stand not getting to the bottom of something like this.
Interestingly the only laptop that works is a Vista machine, the rest are W7. I even tried doing a system restore to a few weeks previous in case Microsoft had patched something that broke them, but still no joy.
Could it be a firmware update on the Home hub or a Windows 7 / wireless network card issue ?
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the suggestions.
interestingly the one issue the home hub did report was that it couldnt find a BT DNS server.  it didnt seem to cause any issues though as the one laptop that does work could browse the internet no issues.
Also did ipconfig and the other laptops were all assigned a dhcp address (if I remember correctly both IP4 and IP6 addresses), but no dns server.
It just doesnt make any sense !!
Try manually assigning the DNS Server on each of the Laptops --- usually the same as the Gateway IP address.
Check this with the Laptop that can connect to the Internet.
    Also check the Network settings.
Is the Network setup correct on those Windows 7 laptops are the settings set for "Public" or "Private" networks?
    Edit
I see it is the older Homehub version, IPV6 (inbuilt on Windows 7) could be causing problems uncheck that option from the Adaptor(s) settings if you can.
As well as ipconfig /all try the following.
    Route print
    route print |findstr /C:"Default"
to check that there is an assigned default gateway

    Hi Melatina66,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that when trying to print from your laptop that you get a communication error message.
To better assist you, would you please provide some further information:
    1)       How is the printer connected (USB cable, ethernet or wireless)?
    2)      When you installed the printer on your laptop did you set it up with a USB cable?  If  yes, did you switch the connection type on the laptop from USB cable to ethernet/wireless?
    3)      What version of Windows operating system are you running on the laptop (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, etc)?
    4)      When printing from your iPhone are you using Apple's AirPrint or HP's ePrint app?
    Thank you.

  • Clients not receiving DHCP IP address from HREAP centrally Switched Guest SSID

    Hi All,
I am facing a problem in a newly deployed branch site where the Clients are not receiving DHCP IP address from a centrally switched Guest SSID. I see the client status is associated but the policy manager state is in DHCP_REQD.
The dhcp pool is configured on the controller itself. The local guest clients are able to get DHCP and all works fine, the issue is only with the clients in the remote site. The Hreap APs are in connected mode. Could you please suggest what could be the problem. Below is the out of the debug client.

I am not able to connect from my laptop to airplay mirroring equipment, icon is not showing on my laptop. It does show when I hook up a HDMI wire to the apple TV box.

I think you mean Ethernet, not HDMI wire. If the airplay icon is showing up when wired then that would indicate an issue with your wifi network.

I was about to return the ipad but solving this issue reset my faith in phone support.....perhaps until I call a differnet companys phone support eh? Anyhow, for reference the fix is below.  My accounts are all POP not IMAP, and the primary smtp server setting had defaulted to have SSL switched on and the port was set to 5XX (something, cant remember). Anyhow, SSL was switched off and the port was swithced to 25. VOILÀ!!  Settings/Mail, contacts, calendars/My POP mail account/smtp/primary server/ >>> server on, no username and password,  use SSL off,  no authentication,  Server Port 25  Thanks for having a crack at it. • RDP License Server (Device Based CALs) is not issuing licenses to Devices.

    Hello,
My RDP license server is not issuing licenses at all. Here are my environment details:
    This is workgroup environment
RDP license is Device based CALs and is installed on Windows 2012
RD Session host server is Windows 2008R2.
Full communication is allowed both ways between license server and RD session host server.
Windows firewall is turned off on both license server as well as on RD session host server.
The Local Administrator’s password on license server as well as on RD session host server is same.
Now, on RD session host, when I run tlsbln.exe manually, it pops up the usual xxx days left balloon warning.
However when I run the License diagnostic utility under RD session host Snap-in, the utility connects to the license server fine and shows me the stats. However, in these stats, it show installed licenses are 20 and available license also as 20.
On the License server, under License server snap-in, My license server also shows that installed licenses are 20 and available are also 20.
This is not right. The installed should show 20 but the available license should show 19 as my desktop should have consumed one license.
I had 2 more laptops connecting fine to the RD session host sever and still the available licenses number was still 20.
Besides, on license server under the license manager snap-in, it did not mention any device names connected. Meaning, it is not aware of it at all.
Could you please help me understand what am I missing here. Why my license server is not issuing licenses?
    Thanks.

    Hello TP.
Unfortunately, there are no footprints at all. I have already checked the Even
viewer logs on RD session host server as well as the License server. No relevant events are logged.
Also, I have tried with numerous new instances (This whole set-up is on Amazon Web Services). So no, this is the only license server and the RD session hosts do not have any existing license server lurking
    around.
I know that this DOES work and I made is work in the past.
However, Our license server got infected and hence I had to crate a new one and now I am facing with this problem.
    Thanks for your time.

Of course not... it's not supposed to.  There is no issue with that.
iDevices only show as cameras so that pictures/videos taken with the device can be copied off.

As per your post, your home user is having issues with the D-Link product, not the Cisco products. This forum serves to provide technical and presales support for Cisco devices only.
I did take the time to locate the free support number for the D-Link products: 1-877-453-5465
In light of all of this, I am glad to hear your Cisco access points seem to be working well!
    Best of luck,
    -Lindsey

    or

My last post was censored. So let's try this one. I am glad you are not having this issue, unfortunately one phone working does not negate the fact that others are not.
My only comment was to yours that +It is well documented that apple has added software code to impede the use of 3rd party cables and connections.+ It is not well known at all, and is untrue. Early iPhones had a problem with some cables that caused the phone to be fried. Apple redesigned the interface to prevent this, and added a signal to test that the cable was safe. They published the specification for the required cable so 3rd party manufacturers could make safe cables.
There are multiple threads in the support forums of people reporting issues with charging after upgrading to OS4.
Yes, there are. And these problems need to be fixed. But the best way to achieve that is to take the phone to Apple. It is far from a universal problem; universal problems have thousands of messages and threads, the number of reports of this problem is so small that it is likely that it is a defect in the specific phones affected, possibly minor manufacturing variations between lots or different components in the phone. But it is not the sort of thing that can be fixed by the owner.
From the ones I have read here are some of the recomendations:
    1) check and clean all contacts
    2) Do a full reload of the phone
This is good advice. Also try a different cable and different charger.
If anyone else has anything that has worked for them would appreciate any input on this. It's been getting progresively worse.
The phone charges fine on all my adapters if I turn it off while it is connected.
This is a hint at the problem with your phone. When you say "all adapters" does that include the mains adapter the phone came with, or only with computer ports? It is observable that some computers cannot supply enough current to charge the phone while it is in use either as a phone or while transmitting data. In these cases one possible cause can be a runaway app that is consuming more power than the adapter can supply. But this should never be the case with the Apple mains adapter.
