Wrt54gl v1.1 problem

hello. my router have some strange problems. after factory defaults setup it work ok, when i change dmz or load configurations, or when i disconnect firewall, after reboot it don't connect to internet at all. at status bar sayed - connected and there are all isp configuration, but any internet program like icq or firefox don't see any connection. just doing again factory defaults back connection again. and at last time even without any changing parameters after reboot it don't connect. is it hardwere or softwere problem? i upgrated to the last firmwere from linksys site, what i must to do before going to shopstore to take it to repair, because at shop sayed it can take 21 days and it is a lot. sanx.

I got the same problem. The router dies every few months. Reboot or power off/on does not help. Last time it happened I reset and reconfigured the router. Now it died again. I have to put up my old netgear until I can really fix the Lynksys.
Details of my problem: clients of the router lost Internet connection (cannot ping Google nor ISP's DNS servers or gateway). The link between clients and router is OK. I can log into the router. The router can connect to Internet too. It can get IP and DNS from DHCP from ISP. It can ping Google in the rounter's administration (or tools) page. Apparently the link between the router clients and Internet is broken.
Help?

  • Hi all, just bought a new WRT54GL but having problems

Hi everyone this maybe a newbie esque question but anyway, I connect to the internet though a Linksys AM200, never had problems, my old USB dongle that I use for my Xbox Live stuff broke so I bought a WRT54GL Wireless Router, but as soon as I set it up I get a pop up saying 'The Router cannot connect to the modem/internet (cant remember which) Try switching the modem off then turn on, Do you want to try again?' or whatever, and I get absolutely nowhere with it, any help appreciated

Are you connecting the WRT54GL to the x-box or to the modem...? How you are trying to configure the WRT54GL....?
WRT54GL is a wireless router, not an Wireless adapter and it is not a substitute for the USB adapter. To configure the WRT54GL,you need to hardwired it with the modem.

  • Linksys wrt54gl broadband limit problem

    Hello.
I`ve recently bought a WRT54GL router, and I`m having some problems with it. The original firmware the router came with had a bug, and couldn`t even connect to a PPPOE network. I downloaded the latest firmware version for this model (4.30.14 build 5, Oct. 26, 2009). Now it can connect to PPPOE but the broadband speed is limited to ~ 30Mbits/s.
My ISP normally provides a download speed up to 80-90MBits/s, and if I bypass the router, and connect the internet cable directly to my PC, it works.
The QoS is disabled, so this can`t be the problem, but I searched the internet, and I found that it can be because the router`s CPU is too slow and can`t handle connections up to 80-90Mbit/s download speed, but this sounds a little bit weird to me.
Did any of you gus run into this problem? Is it a hardware problem, or a software one? Maybe there`s something I need to set up in the admin interface?
    Thank you, Zoli

It is true that the date for the last firmware update is 10/19/2010, but unfortunately this is an error, because if you try to download the update you will see that the update actually is from 2009 not from 2010.
You can see it even on the download page:
    Firmware:
    10/19/2010
    Ver.4.30.14
    and the link is this:

  • Wrt54gl v1.1 problems again...

I posted last week about problems with my router.  I made sure my network was secured and followed the other advice given. I did not upgrade any firmware though.  Occasionally the router would need to be reset and custom settings re-entered.
Now my problem is this. This morning I could not browse the web, but my utorrent was running fine with decent speed and my ports forwarded.  Came home at 5 pm. Utorrent still running good,  no web access. Reset router, now utorrent is down and no web. Powered the router off. same situation. Powered modem and router off. same results. Used windows network diagnostic several times to repair access, (this has worked before to restore web access.)  Said it could not renew my IP address.  No connection anywhere, but firewall is showing traffic in. Now I just disconnected the router completely and plugged right into the modem. No problems.
    Any help is appreciated.  Thanks

Maybe just reset first to see if that helps. But definatly upgrade the firmware at some point, although that doesn't in itself get you online. It might stop you if corrupted though. Just hold the reset button, when its setup and plugged in, for 30 seconds. It should set itself back up. Once you get everything working and all your settings done and firmware upgraded, back up your settings file. Its easy to do and would have prevented this by just reinstalling/importing it.

  • WRT54GL PPPoE connection problem

    Hi,
my ISP is using PPPoE to connect users, but I'm not sure about presence of any cable modems -- ethernet wire just goes to the common box. So I was configuring the router according to this tutorial, got to step 6, e.g. the router was assigned an IP address but it still can't access the Web. Traceroute to the ISP's website are successful, but if I try to ping or traceroute any other website it stops at the next IP node. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Problem solved: in my case it was necessary to enter 192.168.2.1 AND then choose PPPoE connection with appropriate login/password.

  • WRT54GL Linksys Interface problem

    Hi there,
I just after trying to configure the router, but unfortunately I can't  get access to the 192.168.1.1 i can't even ping this address. And if I try to install it on XP machine all I get is - that it can't connect to router. I tried to reset the router, was holding reset button for 30sec etc, none of this help. Any other ideas what to do ?
By the way some how internet works fine on the laptop through Ethernet connection. But I can't still access Linksys interface over the web.

First thing is...do not try to acess the setup page of the router from wireless computer...If you are not able to ping the ip address on the laptop then, i guess your laptop is not connected to your network,it might connevted to some different network.
So connect the laptop/dekstop to the router on the ethernet port...now, try to ping 192.168.1.1....If it is still not pinging then, Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now Check waht is the ip address you are getting and whether you can ping the 192.168.1.1 address....If yes then, try to open the setup page.

  • WRT54GS Ver 6 - Connectivity Issues.

I purchased this WRT54GS about a month ago, and got it working. Everything worked fine, then this morning I started having issues. My Internet keeps 'locking up' to a certain point. When it happens:
-I lose the ability to go to any web page
-My online game I play connects fine, and works normally - but then it crashes when I try to go to a new Zone
-Internet applications (Anti Virus, Spybot) can't connect to update - they don't 'see' the internet
Yet - my VOIP continues to work normally. However, to use any other Internet functionality, I have to use Ipconfig /release and /renew.
I have bypassed the Linksys router, and connected directly to the Cable Modem - and the problem vanishes. I tried updating the Firmware, no change.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this?
*Edit = I've checked out all the configuration options I can, and checked out every FAQ I could find. I hope someone reads this soon who can offer some advice.

"Frunple" is right.Your problem is not unique and has been experienced by many customers who bought version 5 and 6 of this router. I was one of them who had 3 or more random disconnects a day for over 2 months. Linksys tech support tried very hard to correct this with many different reconfigurations but nothing helped. Exchanging the orignal router to two more version 6 routers also did not cure the problem. Only when I changed the router to a WRT54GL did the problem stop instantly.
The reason is that the WRT54GL is really a resurrected WRT54G version 4 which was based on a different design. Starting with version 5 and 6 Linksys changed the RAM from 16 MB to 8 MB and the Flash Memory from 4 MB to 2 MB. They also changed the operating system to "VxWorks". Something is very wrong in this design.
If you want to cure the problem then try to replace your router with a version 4 or earlier or get a WRT54GL which is really a "WRT54G version 4" with a new name.
Since I did change I have now not had any disconnects for one month.

  • I have a problem with 2 ROUTERS wrt54gl

    I have a problem with 2 ROUTERS
The router has remained and 2 linksys and specific wrt54gl and 2
    In
one I have connected the DSL line with a modem in the first WAN router
which has IP: 192.168.100.1 and connect from Tin's LAN 192.168.100.1 in
the second router to the WAN, which has different numbering IP:
192.168.1.1 because it remained in another house with another network
    I
have a problem: while and I have 2 router internet and distribution and
2 their own IP in all the PC I have not bidirectional LAN
I have a LAN only from the second router to the first
How do I get interactive and on 2 sides LAN?

Reconfigure the second router as simple access point.
On the second router, open the web interface. On the main Setup page
    1. set internet connection type to DHCP (if it is static ip at the moment)
    2. change LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.100.2.
    3. disable dhcp server
Now save settings. You'll lose the connection.
Now wire one of the numbered LAN ports of the second router to the first router. Do not use the internet port of the second router!
Now you have created a single LAN. All computers can connect to each other.

  • RT31P2 + WRT54GL + Vonage problems

Hey guys, I've been having a recurrent issue for a while now, and lately the problem has gotten a lot worse.  Before I describe the problem, I would like to explain the exact set-up that I have to better explain the situation. (I have had this set-up for a good 4-5 years now)
    - I have vonage phone service, and they provided me with the the RT31P2 router for use to connect my phone lines to. Since this is not a wireless router, I went out and bought a WRT54GL, so I can get wireless access for my laptop.
    - In order to set up the two routers, I connected the ethernet cable from my cable modem and plugged it directly into the WAN of the RT31P2. I took another ethernet cable, plugged it into one of the ethernet ports on the RT31P2, and plugged the other end into the ethernet port of the WRT54GL.
Note: Before I did the above connections, I disabled the DHCP on the WRT54GL and changed the starting IP address to 192.168.15.2. Also set up a secure password enabled network.  For the RT31P2 router, all the settings remained the same, and it's IP is 192.168.15.1.
    - For the most part, this set up has been absolutely fine. My home phones would work with no static, no dropped calls, etc. I have one PC that is hooked up via ethernet on the RT31P2. Three laptops that connect wirelessly to the WRT54GL.
Problem:  A couple of days ago, I noticed my internet speeds became drastically reduced on the PC's that are connected via WiFi. (Normally, I would get speedtest.net results with a range of download: 9-10Mbps and upload: ~ 0.54Mbps.) The speeds I was getting instead were close to 2Mbps (download), and even lower for upload. I isolated the problem and found out that only PC's connected via WiFi were experiencing this slowness. The one PC connected via ethernet was still getting its average normal speeds. (Currently, I hooked up two laptops to the RT31P2 via ethernet and disabled the WRT54GL router, and its running at normal speeds).
I called up my ISP to come and take a look and see where the proble might be, and everything on their end seems to be fine. Since they only provided the cable modem, anything extra has to be taken care of the party that is responsible for it. So basically, everything via direct connection from Cable modem, or ethernet connection from RT31P2 is good, but my wireless connection from WRT54GL is no longer usable because of the slowness.  I have not changed the above-mentioned set-up at all, there were no hardware changes, nothing that can explain why all of a sudden devices connected to my wifi would be this slow. This issue seems to occur maybe 2-3 days every two weeks or so, but currently, it's been going on for about a week.  I think I also had a similiar problem like this sometime last year, and it took a long long time for the wifi to become stable again (close to a month). At that time, my ISP said the same thing to me - that there is no fault on their part because the signal strength was good on their end.
So does anybody have any idea/know why this might be happening with my wireless router?
*Also, another issue with vonage phone service - right when the wifi started acting up, I noticed that my home phone was getting a lot of static, making calls unbearable. I would get a dial tone, but it was absolutely impossible to carry out a conversation with that amount of static. So I called Vonage this morning, and we spent a good amount of time trying to isolate the problem.  What we came up with is the fact since I kept my cable modem and routers literally on top of each other, that it was causing some type of interference. When I moved all the devices away from each other, the static disappeared (only a little bit remained, but not a big deal). However, after I hung up the phone with vonage support, I realized that the static was not gone because I moved the routers away from each other, but the fact that the static only occurs if i have another ethernet cable plugged into the RT31P2 (which is the router where the phone lines connect to), where the other end of ethernet cable is connected to a PC. Any ideas on what might explain that? Do you guys think there is a correlation between the static on the vonage and the wifi problems, even though they are on different routers..?
I know it's a long message, but I would really appreciate if somebody would take the time to go over this post and help me out. Thanks a lot to anybody with suggestions.

  • Problems with AirPort - WRT54GL (for a short time)

    Hi!
If have an old MacBook with Core Duo (OS X 10.4.10, all updates installed). The last days I have more and more problems with my WLAN. I use a WLAN DSL-Router (Linksys WRT54GL with original firmware v4.30.7). The problem is, that after some time while everything works perfectly, AirPort is still connected to the WRT54GL, but I cannot reach the Router anymore (no ping, no tcp connection to the router or to any computer in my network or the internet). At the same time router works fine for other computers. When I disable AirPort and enable it again, it connects again and everything works fine again. Any idea what the problem could be? Before the problem occured for the first time some weeks ago, it worked perfectly for more than one year with the router (no firmware update). The WLAN signal strengh is between medium and strong.
The only problem I had with the router was, that I had to use WPA2, because WPA did not work for my MacBook. And it's not very fast, but that's not so important. The latest problems are really annoying, e.g. when I wrote a long email using webmail, the connection was lost and after I reenabled AirPort, the text was gone.
Does anybody know how I could find and solve the problem?
    best regards
    Andreas

You can't power it down from the AirPort Utility, but you could use the Timed Access feature to control when certain network devices can access the base station itself. Timed Access relies on the device's MAC hardware address and will control access to the router on a time basis.
You would find this feature on the AirPort > Access Control tab within the AirPort Utility.

  • WRT54GL problems!

    Hello,
I use a PPTP type connection with my Russian LAN ISP. Setup has been done according to my ISP instructions, and all is working fine.
But... From time to time, some strange things happen:
    - First, no website can be reached, "Server not found" messages everywhere. Seems a DNS problem as the websites addresses that are cached (Outpost firewall, DNS cache enabled) can be reached.
    - Then, one or 2 minutes later, the internet connection is dropped (but the LAN connection remains).
    - Then, again one or 2 minutes later, the internet connection comes back and all is working.
This happens more often when eMule is working, but not only!
    Any help will be appreciated
    Thank you,

mm i am not sure anymore if this can be used in the normal firmware, see http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki for how to use a not-supported firmware. it opens a lot more opportunities to set the configuration options. i did it yesterday by myself to make the wrt54gl a wireless bridge and it works fine. note: be very carefull and read the instructions very well. • WRT54GL Internet Problem

Hi all, since I got my WRT54GL my internet became very laggy, having spikes and very slow download speed. Also it randomly discconects and I have to manualy go to router's home page -Status - and press connect botton 2-3 times in order to connect.
It's the same thing regardles of the number of PC connected to it, or the method of connection (wired/wireless) . Also I should mention that my internet service provider is a good one , before this router I hadn't have any problems.
I run different OSs on the PC's and here are some of the router's settings :
Firmware Version: v4.30.13 (latest I think)
    Internet Connection Type : PPPoE
Connect on Demand : Max Idle Time   Min.
     MTU : 1300 ( tried 1350 -1400)
    Security Mode : WPA Personal
    WPA Algorithms: : TKIP
Group Key  Renewal : 5000 sec
    Beacon Interval: 75
    Fragmentation Threshold 2304
    RTS Threshold:  2307
      Firewall Protection:  Enabled
Block Anonymous Internet Requests  & Filter IDENT(Port 113) Checked
    DMZ / QoS Disabled
     UPnP: Enabled
Please help me if you can Thanks.
Also , a second ,unrelated question : Can I make another account for the router's homepage ? like a guest account or something , and if not what is the purpose of the User Name on the login page ?
    Thanks for reading

    - Check the option "Keep Alive" and click on save settings...Now,check.
    - You can not create another account on the router homepage.
    - The password is created for the router's setup page,so that no one can manipulate with the configuration of the router..By default the router password is "admin"..You can change the password under Administration tab.

  • WRT54GL & Bittorrent problem.

hay, i'm using my WRT54GL router for my ADSL connection, the line speed is about 12k/s up, 250k/s down. got 2 machines using this router, wireless one, and cabled one.
the computer that using Bittorrent is the cabled one.
now my problem is that every time i run the a BT client (not a specific one, but mainly uTorrent) it really slows my internet connection, even tho the client is configured to use only 6k/s upload.
but that's not all, the weird thing is that even after i shutdown the BT client, the connection still won't work well, page load takes lots of time and most of the time won't work at all, tho if i do managed to download something from a web page, speed can get high, but link will probably brake after some time.
i tried setting QoS, but that didn't help much, i set upload to 86 Kbps, set port 80 to High and BT port to Low.
    any ideas?

Linksysinfo - How to configure WRT54GL for VOIP and-or BitTorrent
When you click on the first link in the post above, it says...
Configuring a WRT54GL to handle an existing Vonage router (WRTP54G or RTP300) and/or BitTorrent.
The instruction above is for third-party firmware. If you are using the official Linksys firmware (ver 4.30.9 is latest) then perhaps you can still borrow some of the ideas from this article.

DSL ---wrt54gl and to PC and Xbox 360 from lan port 1 and 2.
I can go on the internet from my PC no problem, but my xbox will not go on xbox live. In the xbox connnection test it will not pass the ICMP test...
My router has standard firmware and Upnp enabled.
    Otherwise it has standard settings...
I this router not capable of going on xbox live?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Okay, I have done this, but the xbox still fails the ICMP test...
Xbox now wtih static IP: 192.168.1.5

MTU: 1364 and ok in the MTU test on xbox.
    UPnP: Disabled
All tests ok until ICMP? Why?
When I plug the xbox directly into my DSL modem it connects just fine...

  • WRT54GL Problem

    Currently I'm using WRT54GL v1;firmware upgraded to 4.30.9
I bought my router in Nov'06.
I have to constantly turn off the router & modem power & then turn them on again (like powering up the connection whatsoever) so that I can surf again.
So I called up Linksys about the problem.
After many attempts to connect my desktop to the modem to check for connection, and then connect to the router for more manual checks (my poor back!),
I was asked to upgrade my firmware.
After everything failed, I was asked to go down to the office to get a replacement bcos "my computers are not suitable for the router!!"
I replaced my router twice within 2 days .
And on the second day, they gave me a new model (the one I'm using now) as a replacement.
    it's been 2-3 months.
And I still see myself constantly turning on & off my router & modem from time to time.
Yesterday, the problem started up again.
I can't connect my wireless laptop to the Network.
After I called up Linksys, turns out that my router reset on its own.
They explained that it's due to power or whatever that is.
Everything went fine, or I thought I hope it is.
This morning, I could connect to the Internet but could not go online!
Everything went well when I connect my desktop directly to my modem.
Any other reliable models (Linksys - I don't care old or new model, any other models) do you suggest that won't give me the above problems?
In case they want me (most likely) to go down to the office again to get another replacement.

Last night while waiting for a reply from the Linksys technician and am still now waiting (been 48 hours now), I upgraded my firmware even though I've done it with the technician earlier.
I reset my router & did the security etc. It worked well again!
Right now, it's still working fine and still no call back from the technician.
I just hope I won't face anymore such problems although I won't bet on it.
I'm already prepared to get another brand!
