WRT54GS and wireless phone interference

Up until a few days ago, I had a 2.4 GHz wireless phone system in the house but was getting constant "clicks and taps" on the phone. Since the wired phones operated fine and had no intereference, I figured it was the router. Changing the channels didn't help. Then I read and also was told that I should convert to a DECT 6.0 (1.9GHz) wireless phone system because wireless router signals wouldn't interfere with it. Fortunately the phones are not that expensive and I did that this morning...problem is, the interference is still there. I've upgraded my firmware to the latest via suggestion from a helpful gentleman in Live Chat, and changed the channel to the highest in the range but am still getting the interference.....any ideas?

1)  This is very odd.  Do you have a DSL or ADSL system?  Or do you use cable or satellite?
2)  Also, does the problem stop if you unplug the router?
If you have a DSL or ADSL system, then you need "line filters" on all your telephones, fax machines, etc.   All telephone lines need a filter, except the line that goes to the modem.  Your ISP should have supplied you with these line filters.

  • WRT54GS and wireless xbox

Maybe stupid question but I'll ask anyway.  Just bought XBox 360.  Have a Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Router.  Do I need to purchase a wireless adapter for the Xbox 360 or is one built in and all I need to do is set it up?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am trying to access Xbox live with new Xbox360 via wireless WRT54GS.
I am able to get the Xbox to recognize the wireless network. but when I run test for Xbox live the message comes back that the network doesn't have sufficient MTU setting. Says Xbox live requires minimum MTU of 1364.  When I log in to the router IP address from my PC to check the settings, it says MTU is set at manual and has a value of 1492.  So I don't understand why Xbox sees insufficient MTU.
My daughter has an IPOD and also can't access our wireless home network, so I wonder if there is the same problem affecting that too.
BTW the router firmware version is v2.07.1, Feb. 26, 2004, in case that's a factor. I quickly checked for firmware updates on Linksys.com and encountered the request for hardware version. Says not all firmware versions are supported by all WRT54GS's.  Don't know where to find the hardware version.
Then I see the latest post about enabling UPnP - is that necessary to get the Xbox to communicate with this model router?
    Thanks for any help.

  • WRT54GS and Wireless cameras

I'm a network idiot so please bear with me. Our office has a Cicso uBR400 router provided by RoadRunner with 5 static addresses. RR has locked down the configuration of this router, can't access it or view the settings at all. From that we have a WRT54GS wireless router utilizing one of the static addresses. All other static addresses are assigned to employee desktops. We want to install Linksys wireless cameras since we've been having vandalism problems. The cameras install ok and if I highjack a static ip, can be viewed from anywhere. However, if I let the WRT assign an address through DHCP the assigned address is outside the subnet of the other machines in the office and cannot be viewed. Ideally, we'd like to be able to VPN into one of the static machines and attach to the cameras to look around if an alarm is raised. So...I have tried various ways of setting up port forwarding, DMZ, DHCP settings, just about everything I can think of or find in these forums. How do I get the dynamic addresses assigned by the DHCP on the WRT to be seen from the static IP desktops? Thanks.

You can try these settings :
Provide different ports to different cameras in your network for ex: if one is working on 1024 ,then assign another port 1025 and so on.
So that the DHCP of router will provide different Ip address to all devices & you can login to camera using static WAN public Ip.
You have to login using address http://wanpubliciport no.
From other desktop you can use the same format of address to view camera from outside the network.

  • WRT54G and wireless printing on a Mac

Hello Thanks for reading this! I am looking to get rid of the PC that is currently connected to a very old, but reliable printer - HP Laserjet 4000. I would like to hook up the printer to the router I have, but have no clue about how to do it. I have done a little research, but am not very clever when it comes to printer servers (is this hardware?), IP addresses, LANs and how to make this happen. BUT I am very keen to learn about it as it's one of those subjects that has mystified me for too long! I am on an Intel Mac running Leopard (and another PPC Mac running Tiger) and would appreciate some help and advice! Thanks! Sail

Well open the setup page of the router using 192.168.1.1 put the password as admin & leave the username blank. Now, click on the wireless tab & over there click the tab which says wireless over there you will get the ssid i.e., the network name & over here you will get wireless security as sub-tab over here you will get the wireless security key or the wep key.....these settings you need to put on the printer page & setup the printer accordingly & you will be able to print wirelessly!!!

  • Plantronics C12 Wireless Phone a Wireless Killer/Would a Range Booster Linksys Product help with Interference?

    Hi All,
I am a technician in the I.T field of about 12 years. I am a rather decent troubleshooting, however wireless is not my area of expertise, but I am far from a beginner with it.
I read in some review that that phone mentioned inthe subject was a wireless killer, but I went ahead and bought it anyway.
Worked for a while with little issue, but often..as soon as I pick up the phone when receiving a phone call, my Wireless is shot.
I have tried changing frequencies from 1-11 hearing that 11 was the luckier pick. Nothing seems to be working.
It is cause and effect when I pick up the phone. Quite sick.
Plus, very recently it has been drop[ping frequently and intermittently. I have read the articles on intermittent connection and none of it seems to apply.
I am wondering if there is a way to analyze wireless traffic/noise/interference.
Live in an apartment and it usually works, but for the past month it has been the worst ever.
    Any ideas?
    Oh, I re-upgraded the firmware to 4,7,1,1 I think Its a WRT54GS V2
    Be good.

There are also other things that you can do to improve your wireless connections:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, Bluetooth (including Bluetooth game controllers), microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Ultimately, an apartment complex is often a difficult environment to run a wireless system.  Other possible solutions include:  (1) setting up a single (or perhaps just a few) wireless router in the building, and having all users share this router  (2) change your system to wireless a, which runs in the 5+ GHz band  or (3)  change your system to a wired network.
    Hope this helps.

  • Hub4 and phone interference

Have been using Hub 4 for about two weeks and our wireless phones have been working ok. Today there is interference on the phone and when I use it it disconnects the Hub. I've read that Hub can use two frequencies my guess is these have been switched hence the phone problem. Can I manually select the Hub frequency and if so how?

Have you tried moving your phone base unit further away from the homehub?

  • How to set up WRT54GS so the wired and wireless connections both work?

I have a DSL line in to a Motorola modem.
The modem is connected to the WRT54GS with an ethernet cable.
When I connect my computers directly into the WRT54GS with an ethernet cable (there are four connection spots at the back of the box), I cannot go to the internet.  I have 3 computers plugged in, but none of them connect via Ethernet..
Is there a setting on the router so that I can use the router for both wired and wireless connectivity?
Added info: I tried to connect directly from the computer to the modem, but again, got no connectivity.  When I "chatted" with ATT, they told me the modem is set to "bridge", and that I could connect only one device.  I don't want to change this setting because I want to use the router for the wireless capability.  Besides which, I have more than one computer to connect to the internet.
How come I cannot just plug in and go?
    My firmware version is v2.07.1.
I don't know how to find out what hardware version I have.
Other info is "DirectEthernet Connection, Speed: 100.0 Mbps, Signal Strength: Excellent, Status: Connected"
Also "1394 Connection 3, Speed: 400.0 Mbps, Status: Connected"
I don't know what that's for, but thought it might prove useful to those of you who are knowledgeable about such things.
Wireless is ok, but if I'm sitting right next to the router, I'd like to connect with Ethernet and take advantage of the better speed, etc.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Wireless repeater using wrt54g and wap54g

i am having problems connecting my wrt54g and wap54g as wireless repeater. my setup is as follows: 1. wrt54g (192.168.1.10) is connected to a dsl provider modem/router (192.168.1.1) (dhcp server). With this setup i do not have any problems connecting my wired pc and laptop to the network. 2. on my 2nd floor the signal is faint thus i need to extend the wireless signal. 3. i have a wap54g (192.168.1.12) that i would like to repeat the signal of the wrt54g. 4. i tried the guide from the website but it was general thus there are some settings (recommended) that are missing. questions: 1. does the 2 wireless ap need to have the same SSID, channel and wep settings? 2. what should be the gateway for the wap54g? 192.168.1.1? 3. when using wifi, would i see 2 access point? or a single 1 and whoever is nearer? 4. does the wrt54g need to be a dhcp server? or the 192.168.1.1 can do that. 5. does my ideal setup be 2 AP and not 1 wireless router/ap and 1 ap? 6. can the wrt54g use wireless distribution mesh? 7. i cannot see my wrt54g from the firware downloads, mine is v7 and there are only v6 and v8? am from asia and this might be an asian version? any help would be appreciated.

what i did was the following: 1. enable wap54g as a wireless client to look for the main ssid. 2. copy the mac address to the option for wireless repeater. 3. i can now use the wap54g as a repeater. when i shut down everything and turn it on, i cannot again hook up. again, i have to do the steps above for the wap54g to act as a repeater. any idea on what the problem is? i am sure that what i am putting on the mac address is correct. even when i shut down and turn on all router and accesspoints. the connection seems lost.

  • I just bought a router WRT54G and a Compact wireless-G

i just bought a router WRT54G and a  Compact wireless-G and by the time to connect them it seems that both things work correctly but there are two icons that show if u are connect to the internet, so here is the problem one icon says that my connection is excellent, but the other ones says that my connectivity is limited or there is not connectivity at all.
What should i do to fix that problem i've tried everything i think but nothing happened?

Is the "limited connectivity" icon the icon for your ethernet card (which presumably is not plugged in, and therefore has no connectivity) ?  If so, then this icon is reporting its connection correctly.  You do not need to fix it.

  • Hi guys, I recently got a WRT54G v5 wireless router, and...

Hi guys, I recently got a WRT54G v5 wireless router, and when I try to play the PC multiplayer game Call of Duty 4, it kicks me for having 'No Packet Flow' and "Loss of Key Packets". I didn't get these with my other router so I know that the WRT54G is the problem. It says that you only get these problems if your router drops OOB packets which COD4 uses frequently. How do I stop the router from dropping OOB packets?

Well try reducing the MTU to 1200. And also upgrade the firmware.
    To upgrade the firmware :
Connect the computer to the router.
Open the setup page (Intrnet Explorer : 192.168.1.1).
    Username :
    Password : admin
Go to Administration Tab. Go to firmware upgrade.
Browse and select the bin or img file thats extratcted from the download.
    Start to upgrade.
Reset the router and then reconfigure it. Should work.
To check the latest firmware for ur router, click here.
    Should help.

  • Two issues - Having to constantly reconnect and wireless not working (now) on WRT54G

I believe my router is a model WRT54G (it's a G or GL).  First problem - I have a laptop and a PC with wireless cards.  Both have connected at one time or another to my router, but neither work now.  They both show "acquiring connection & IP", then "Connected", but the connection cannot be used to go to the Internet.  I CAN get into my primary wired PC from these two, though.
We've rebooted the PCs, turned the router and the cards on and off (router off for several minutes), disabled and reenabled the connections - no luck.
Second issue - on my primary wired connection, and before we had the issues, on the other two devices, I'll try to go to a web page, and be prompted to "Connect".  This will happen several times in a session, not just when I first open my browser.
I can't believe this problem is unique to me.
Advice would be appreciated - thanks.

hi... try power cycling the n/w, power down the modem and router, wait for couple of minutes, power up the modem first once modem is rebooted power up the router...check whether it makes any difference or not, if it still doesn't work you may need to reset the router back to factory default settings by pressing reset button on the back panel of router about 30 seconds, power cycle the n/w and check whether it works or not... also let me know which internet connection you are using so that i can tell you step by step configuration of router and wireless settings...

There actually is a type of "pointer" native to iOS. it's part of the AssistiveTouch feature,  used to replicate multitouch gestures with one finger. You just can't control it with a mouse.
Anyway, as far as I can discern the iPad does not use nanotechnology in any part of its construction.

    SEPPLES86,
In order to print from your I-Pad or I-Phone you would need to be connected through wireless. Air Print works when your printer and device ( ipad or iphone) is connected to the same WI-FI network.
