WRT54GS Blocking

Is there a setting that can block a specific wbe site that sends unwanted displays?

You mean like a pop-up blocker?

  • WRT54GS Blocking Internet Access

    Hi,
I have a WRT54GS router that constantly blocks the internet access.  Any computer (Mac or PC) is able to access the wireless network, however, no internet signal is passed through the router.  I know the internet signal works because you can connect directly to the cabel modem and the internet works fine.  When the router is connected to the modem the internet light on the front of the router blinks (as if there were data being transmitted), but still no internet access availabe.
I have tried unplugging and fully restarting both the modem and the router in every order and combination possible with no success.  The only way I can solve this problem is to leave both the modem and the router unplugged for 24 hours and then plug them both back in.  This problem/blockage only seems to occur when the router has been inactive for 2 or more days (when I leave out of town or something).
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jordan

  • WRT54G blocking Usenet/newsgroups

I have been having the weirdest problem with my Linksys router WRT54G.
If I use a traditional hub or switch that does not provide NAT I can hit the news server just fine.
As soon as I use the WRT54G it will not hit the Comcast news server.  Error is "Cant open socket".
Has anyone had this issue or know an easy solution?

    hi ,
couple of things i would like you to confirm here....you say you have enabled port forwarding for port 119.....what is the IP that you have sepcified in the port forwarding section ???
in case you have not specified an ip...i'd suggest that you first assign a static IP to your PC and then enable port forwarding for the same IP...
also run this command at the command prompt and then restart the PC ..."netsh winsock reset catalog"   this will reset your tcp/ip stack
let me know if this works.

  • WRT54G blocking google

The problem is with the router, cause if I take it out, and go straight with the ethernet cable, google is available.
When the router is connected I cant access google, youtube videos, and I see some websites like a text time (some script problem?)
It is not a malware, cause the sites are appearing without the router.
The router is a WRT54G with the lastest firmware updated.
I updated the firmware today to see if that changed something but with no luck the problem persist.
I also read on this board that changing from encryption might help, I did that, but with no luck the problem is still there.
I read something about MTU that could be causing it, could you give me a hand with that, I just dont find anything about it or where to read more from it
Thanks in advance for any kind of help

After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since your last firmware upgrade, please do this now and see if it corrects your problem.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
Do you face the same problem on all the computers ?

  • WRT54GS blocking IP address

My router appears to be blocking one website.  I can't ping the website or IP address.  I can ping every IP address around this one IP.  I do not see any reason why it's getting blocked.  I used another laptop with the same issue using a wireless connection and trying to access the website.  If I take the other laptop and plug in my broadband card the website is accessible.  So, I know or believe I know it's the router blocking the connection.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the linksys setup page click on the Security tab and uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests and click on Save Settings...If that doesn't help then, try to open the ports 443-447 on the router...On the setup page..Click on "Applications and Gaming" tab and then click on "Port Triggering" subtab...  On the first line in Application box type in ABC,Under the Triggered Range and Under the Forwarded Range ... in the start box type in 443 and End box type in 447 and check the enable box...

  • WRT54G blocking email

I've searched the forum and have found others with similar problems but never found the answer.
    I have a WRT54G Ver. 6
    Firmware 1.02.2
    Don't use zone alarm
    Use norton
    Windows firewall
    Outlook 2000
I can not send or receive email from my personal domain account. But I can recieve mail from my wildblue account.
They both use ports 25 and 110
If I unplug from the router and plug the modem line into my computer ALL of my email works fine. Plug back into the router... now I can only get my wildblue mail.
I don't see how it could be software, firewall or antivirus, related, if everything works fine without the router in the system.
    Thanks.

Reduce the MTU on the router to 1200.
Disable to security on the router. Assign a static IP Address to the computer and trigger the ports for that IP.
    Hope that helps.

  • WRT54G blocking INTERNAL traffic ?

    Hello everybody!
    I own a WRT 54 G v3.1 Firmware Version: v4.30.5.
Everything works fine except Age of Empires 2 Lan Games. I tried a direct connection between 2 PCs with a crossover cable and the game worked, but when we want to play via our router, we can't find hosted games. We don't want to play on the Internet, only on LAN. Is there any setting that is blocking internal Traffic ? Whats also strange: I tried DXdiag, as AOE2 uses DirectPlay, and DXdiag could establish a connection even when both PCs were connected via the router. Any ideas ? Thanks in advance.

If you have a software firewall installed connected a computer to a different router does make a difference. Those software firewalls remember the firewall settings based on where they are connected. A different router is a different location and thus has different firewall settings. Thus, you have to disable the firewall completely, maybe have to deinstall it completely (ZA is a good candidate for that) to verify whether or not it is related to the computer configuration.
Also, how do you connect between those computers for the game? Do they automatically detect each other? Do you have to enter IP addresses? Or how does it work?
Technically the LAN side of the router is a simple switch. It does not do any filtering there. It may be slightly different if a connection is wireless. It can be completely different if a router runs a 3rd party firmware.

  • WRT54G blocking certain pages

I'm unable to access various pages that I could before. Nothing has been changed on any of my components. When I hook my desktop or laptop directly to the DSL modem, I have no problems. How can I fix this?

Please access the setup page of the router by launching an Internet Explorer and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field empty and provide password as “admin "" all in lower cases and then click on ok. On the main setup page select the "Internet Connection Type" as "PPPoE”. Then provide the username and password provided by your (Internet service provider) for your connection.... Select the "Keep Alive" option and choose the redial period as 30 sec" and then click on the Save Settings button. ..... Click connect on the status page of the router ... if shows connected ...try going online ... If not ...let me know the Error message you are getting ... See how long it goes ...

  • WRT54G blocking wireless

There are many causes for poor wireless connections, and many solutions:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.
Wireless performance could alos be improved by switching to WPA encryption.

  • WRT54G2 and WRT54G locks-up (freezes) when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions

I am convinced that a few Linksys routers such as WRT54G2 and WRT54G have a major issue when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy). After a few hours of internet access by 15 wired users the Linksys locks-up and blocks all internet web access. The only solution is to restart the power on the router.
We are currently using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 (firmware 1.0.04). We upgraded the WRT54G2 v1 firmware to the latest 1.0.04 version which did not resolve the issue.  NOTE: We were previosuly using a a Linksys WRT54G v1.1 (firmware 4.21.1) until the power supply blew a week after we started blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy).
Basically, we have a T1 internet connection and a hub connected to the Linksys router. We are trying to block several web sites such as facebook, myspace, etc. for 15 wired users. We do not use wireless connections.
This is the 2nd time it happened with 2 different models.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thank you,
    Lance
(Mod note: Edited post. Some parts off topic.. Thanks!)

Also,  you have already upgrade/re-flash the firmware of your Linksys Router you need to reset and reconfigure your router from scratch. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

Those sites have a random connection and DNS entries. Your best bet would be to use a DNS servcie like DDNS.com or OpenDNS.com service. Point your router to one of those DNS services and there DNS addresses, then set up one of those services to block FB and Twitter. If you use there DNS addresses on your router instead of the ISP DNS, and you block FB and Twitter, users should beable to get to FB or Twitter after that.

  • WEBSITE BLOCKING ON WRT54G V6 (Firmware Version: v1.02.8)

    Hello Friends,
Short: why some webpages block and others don't using this feature in my router?  As mentioned above, I run a small office and  am using an ::: WRT54G V6 (Firmware Version: v1.02.8) ::: router.
For instance, I have been successful in blocking sites such as "sex.com" and others.  Also, in blocking sites by keywords such as: news, music, vid, nude, etc.  BUT, when I try blocking FACEBOOK or TWITTER either by URL or keyword, guess what: IT DOES NOT WORK...!
Any ideas why this happens and how can I be successful in configuring this feature???  I will appreciate this!  Blessings...

  • Blocking torrentfiles WRT54G v5.1

Heya all. I've surfed on this forum for some time now, without actually finding a solution to my problem; torrent downloading is causing severe latency in both internet surfing and online gaming. Although i have tried setting QoS to give these applications the highest priority, it doesent seem to be helping. And trust me, i have tried many different solutions, without succes. I was therefore wondering if someone could make a small guide on how to set up QoS or other elements of the WRT54G v5.1 to restrict or completely ban these torrent files, so i can enjoy a latency-free online experience? I would be extremely grateful for any help i can get! Sincerely, Ognjen A.

HUH??? If you dont want to download torrents then dont? Hows that? lol
OK now seriously Im assuming someone else is doing the downloading and your trying to block or restrict them. If someone is downloading a torrent file chances are that program they are using is set to make use of all available bandwidth. When you decide you want to play a game QOS or not the torrent prgram isnt going to give that bandwidth up. you need to physically shut that program down. Gaming and downloading torrents or any other P2P program are going to fight for bandwidth.
Help fight lag! Wire up that gaming machine!!!!!
