Wrt54gs cant stay connected

i recently purchased a wrt54gs v7 and it worked ok for a little while. then it started acting up. i have two computers. one is connected via network cable, the other is connected via wireless pci networking card. the wireless computer will have an excellent connection and then it will just drop it. i have to keep repairing the connection and about thirty minutes later it will drop again. also the internet will work really well then it it will stop. it gets as far as "website found, waiting for reply". and then wont load. i have to reset the modem and the router just to get it working. i do some internet gaming and this causes some problems because eveytime i get setup it quits again. i called tech support and they were worthless, it took 45 minutes to tell me to change the frequency channel and it still didnt work. any help with this subject would be greatly appreciated.

this problem (frequent dropping of wireless connection) appears to be the most frequent post on this forum, so much so that one thread was shut down (without a fix) after eight pages of posts by linksys customers (you do the math)
i have had the same problem with wrt54g v6 router for six months now, and no fix in site (maybe 3rd party firmware might do the trick, but my hardware is not fully compatible it seems, so...

Help!! Cant stay connected with Vista.

I have had Verizon DSL for a few years and never a problem. Just recently bought a new computer with Visa ( was using XP ) and my ethernet connection goes in and out. I have a Westell 327w modem. Called the Verizon help and couldnt get anything resolved. I even thought at first it was the ethernet card in the computer but exchanged it and same thing.. All the lights on the front of the modem are on (internet, dsl, wireless, etc.) except the ethernet which flashes on and off when I cant connect. Sometimes it will stay on for the whole day and sometimes off and on all day long. Have to shut off and unplug numerous times to stay connected. Have even hooked old computer back up and it works fine. Is there a patch to download for Vista? A friend said he heard of compatibility problems with Vista and DSL. Can anyone help?

#1 Use ipconfig /all on Vista. See the details at http://www.ncsu.edu/resnet/windows/ipconfig/vista.php
#2 The Default Gateway that you found with ipconfig /all go to with your web browser.
#3 You will be asked for the user name and password. Please enter in the current user name and password for the router.
b) The Default Password is in the manual/user's guide.
I am not sure, but I think the Default user name and password "admin" and "password" respectively.
#4 After logging in to it, press the print screen button on your keyboard.
Go to MS Paint. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Paint.

WRT54G Not staying connected

Hello, I updated this routers firmware a while back, Every since every so often it will lose connection and nothing will bring back connection but resetting it back to factory defaults, The only setting I ever change is I open a port for torrents,44995. Router never did this before firmware upgrade>

Peer-to-peer programs are a known cause of router slow downs and disconnections. Go into Torrents and reduce the number of connections that the software can make.

IPod 2 can't stay connected to wifi after iOS6

I download iOS6, worked fine for a few hours. Went out to eat, came home and now it cant stay connected to the wifi. I have rebooted my wifi and my ipod already. It will connect and a few seconds disconnect and bring us a strange brower Apple page that says "hmmm the page you're looking fopr cant be found"
Please help! I have no way to connec it to the internet now

Have you tried connecting to other WiFi connections? If so does it do the same?
If not, it might just be to do with the amount of periphirals on your current router and subsequently your router is kicking off you iPhone.
Or you could try changing your broadcasting channel in your internet router settings and see if this fixes it

VPN not staying connected via WRT54G - 619 error

Hi All,
I have spent several hours reading thru all the old posts on VPN & 619 issues and cannot seem to resolve the problem. Any help would be much appreciated!
Issue - I can connect to the VPN via the wireless router, but after a minute or so the connection is lost and a 619 message appears. If you use a wired connection directly to the DSL modem, the VPN stays connected fine.
Interestingly, this is a new laptop that uses Windows as the VPN manager. My old laptop used Cisco as the VPN manager and had no issues connecting or staying connected

Find the Port Numbers for your VPN Manager and open those ports on your Linksys router...Change your router's MTU to 1300...

WRT54G v.5 will not stay connected to new laptop/Windows 7 Premium. It continuously runs through a cycle of detecting, connecting, losing connection; detecting, connecting, losing connection, etc. A the router runs through this cycle, basically acting as if I have disconnected then reconnected to power to reset it, it disrupts my Internet connection to both my wired iMac and other, wireless desktop upstairs. Paid for Linksys support today and through remote access he set up a new network on my desktop (iMac). After he finished, the problem still existed. When I told him the problem hadn't been fixed, he told me just wait for an hour or so and it should work itself out. It, of course, did not work itself out. Any ideas out there?

Never mind-I seem to have fixed the problem with a simple firmware upgrade. Funny how the Linksys support technician didn't think to ask what version of the router I have or suggest that I should try upgrading the firmware first. He was, however, quite good at trying to upsell me to a new router instead of trying to help me fix the problem I was having. Makes me want to go buy Netgear next time, thank you very much!

WRT54GS Cant connect to IE but can connect to Firefox

I recently change from DSL to Broadband through Comcast and I cant get on IE. I can get on IE when I directly connect my cable modem to my computer but when I connect my cable modem to my WRT54GS it wont connect to IE but I can get on Firefox. I work at home so I need IE to work. By the way Im using a wired connection.

Make sure proxy settings are disabled in IE. You don't need them with a cable Internet connection.

Bluetooth Headset won't stay connected under 10.6

My PS3 headset use to stay connected under leopard but something in snow leopard doesnt like it. If I can get it connected it'll stay connected for a min. And i cant get the input meter to pickup any audio from the device. However on my iPhone and PS# it works flawlessly. I've tried re-parring it and making sure all my other bluetooth items are off but it still does the same. Any suggestions?

Staying connected to windows computers?

Hi,
I'm sure theres an easy way to do this or i'm just doing it plain wrong but I cant seem to stay connected to any of my network shares. I connect to them and then add a login item for that volume, but when say I restart my computer the server is not connected?
Is this the right way to be doing things?

I think you did it the right way... dragging the Icon to the Startup Items!?
But I'd personally advise against that, it can cause havoc if the Interface isn't UP & Ready when it tries to connect, can really throw the OS/Finder for a loop if a Share isn't there for any reason, etc., etc., etc..
What works better for me is to Drag the Icon to the Dock, between Applications & Trash... and if you'd like a Popup Menu for a number of them, then make a New Folder on the Desktop, give it a cool name, drag all those Icons once you mount them, to that cool named Folder, (you can even rename the Aliases once there to your liking), then drag that cool nameded Folder to the Dock between Applications & Trash. You get Dynamic Mounting as per need this way.
But should you really want them to AutoMount, I'd suggest getting SharePoints Automounter...

Hello is anyone else having the problem of the email no staying connected? I have re entered all of my information and it works for 5 mininutes then dis connects. How can we re-connect and how do we keep it connected?
I cant send but sometimes it recieves???

New WRT54G loosing wired connections

I have a new WRT54G v 8.0 router that continues to lose it's connections, both wired and wireless. The cable modem stays connected, as I only have to reset the Linksys router to reestablish connectivity. I am using the latest firmware from a default router configuration (I did not pull in a saved config). I see others with the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, but as the original post from my notes, I have already upgraded to the latest firmware, which did not resolve the issue. All machines lose connection, wired and wireless. I have at least 6 various media center, laptop and desktops, vista, linux, and XP that lose connection. Therefore, it is not system specific.

OK since your security is set to WPA why do you want to go to WEP? DS? If everything is configured correctly you should not have to change anything. If you are connecting another device and forgot what your WPA setting were just go into the router and take a look see.

2. The DS can't connect to WPA, only WEP or Open
3. I know what my WPA settings are and the codes to both settings

My iPod Touch will no longer stay connected to the internet

Right before updating to iOS 6, I was using FaceTime and other various apps that require an internet connection, and they all worked just fine.
After updating to iOS 6, I noticed that things took a much longer time to load, such as Facebook. I then noticed that FaceTime was now extremely laggy, and often disconnected within 30 seconds (note that both sides are using wi-fi, not data plan). Now my iPod won't even stay connected to the internet, it keeps automatically disconnecting itself when I try to use FaceTime and tells me to "Log in" whenever I try to re-connect, only to send me to an apple site that says my search could not be found?

Though I'm not sure what that does, it was off o.O I turned it to auto, I am now able to use FaceTime but my App Store won't load any Categories, let's just hope Apple get's this sortded out soon.

Is anyone having a problem with the new iPad (Gen. 3) not staying connected to the charger? It seems to ALWAYS get jiggled loose and no longer be charging. My iPad 1 has no issue but I can't browse Internet w/o new iPad unplugging. Horrible!

I notice that my new IPad (3rd generation) will not stay connected to the power cord at all, I'm not exagerating, if I plug it in and browse the Internet without fail it will become unplugged and I will have to push the plug back in (Ba-beep). Ive actually grown to despise that sound when you plug your iPhone or iPad in because it reminds me of how much money I spent on something that PHYSICALLY will not charge while I'm using it.
I know the problem with it holding a charge while in use, I get it, the screen is amazing and it takes a lot to run the display, however, it is unacceptable to me that I can't even keep the thing plugged in while I'm using it. I can not even leave it on my Cal King bed overnight because I will wake up in the morning to find that the plug has been jiggled loose in a corner, so it's still attached but not making a connection thus not being charged.
I love the 4GLTE from Verizon and I love the iPad, but I'm actually using my 1st generation IPad while I am at home so I can leave my new $900 iPad on a table to charge free of incident so I can use the 4G while I'm away from wifi during the day. I have been getting more upset about this because I can not even use the Griffin extended cord to charge the iPad and be far from the plug because only the original apple sync/charge cord will have a better shot at staying in. Absolutely none of my non apple cables will stay in the iPad 3 while having it in my hands.
The plug is at an angle, unlike the first iPad, not sure about the iPad 2. Please let me know if they have same issue.
If anyone else is having this problem with the Gen 3 iPad please let me know because I'm tempted to do something about it with apple and I'm hoping that I just for some reason have a bad cable receiver or something and maybe I can get a replacement and enjoy the iPad as I had expected to. There is no reason why I should be even using my first iPad and I have friends that want to buy it but I am not selling it because I'm unable to sell it because I can't handle the new iPad while it's plugged in, that is ridiculous if it's a common issue so please let me know!

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
