WRT54GS CONNECTION TO MODEM THROUGH USB CABLE WITH AN ETHERNET ADAPTER

The ethernet port on my motorola surfboard modem is damaged but the usb port is fine.  I am attempting to connect my WRT54GS (ver 6) router to the modem via a usb cable with a male ethernet adapter.  Unfortunately it does not appear that the router is able to accept such an input due to driver or firmware issues.  The modem requires me to set up my pc with another driver specifically for the usb connection when i am connected directly.  Any suggestions?

Get a new modem, The USB is not meant for that it's meant for wireless network storage.

I have take pictures from my ipad 4. How to download to my computer with windows operating system conneted through USB cable with out using internet

Plug your iPad into your computer. THere may be a delay while it installs drivers but if you can see your iPad in windows explorer, use that to get to your photos.
Click on your iPad and you should see a DCIM folder. Click thorugh that to find your photos.
Windows explorer will see your iPad as nothing more than a digital camera, and that's the part you're trying to access.

  • Why my ipod will switch on automatically when connected to pc through usb cable?

can anyone tell what i can do to stop my ipod from switching on automatically whenever it is connected to my pc through usb cable? .. thanks

What do you mean it swithes on. Thats because its charging.
Now if your talking about it opening itunes, thats fixable. Just let it open up itunes & go to ur device & scroll down on summary until you see a box to select saying "automatically open itunes when this device is connect" make sure the little box isnt checked.

  • Connecting DSL Modem Using USB Cable

Recently, my DSL modem (Westell 6100) has stopped working. The Ethernet light blinks despite a change in cable. Thus, I would like to attempt using the USB connection. According to this article and this article, the drivers are on the Installation CD, which I mentioned in a previous post I have.  Could you tell me where on the CD the USB drivers mentioned in the articles are located and how to install them? Also, the articles give contradictory instructions. One states to connect the USB cable to the computer prior to installation, while the other article states not to do so until told to do so.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank for your time and help.

    Hello GMRamirez,
Thanks for utilizing the forums to get answers! We appreciate you reaching out to the community. You are correct, one of article does mention not to plug in the USB cable to the computer until you are ready to install the USB drivers (and hence make use of the USB cable). The other article merely states that the USB cable can be plugged into the modem end of the connection (In essence leaving the end that would go to the computer free and unplugged) . So although they are refering to the same USB cable, they're talking about different ends. Hope this clears it up for you!
Running the installation CD should provide you with a menu or options list where driver installation can be selected. Follow the onscreen instructions to facilitate this and you should be go to go. Good lucK! We're here if you have any other questions.

    I have an iphone 4, iOS 7.1.2

WHEN I CONNECT, THROUGH USB CABLE, MY IPHONE TO THE MAC BOOK PRO, THE ITUNES APP STOP RUNNING AND I CAN NOT SYNCRONIZE THE IPHONE.

    Hello skkmmayer,
That is probably a lot of stuff you do not want on your iPhone. So this can be handled a few different was. For you current situation, you can delete the apps directly on your iPhone by holding on the app until it starts to jiggle and then tap on the X of all the apps that you do not want. The second thing you can do is before you sync with iTunes, look at the app section on your iPhone to know what gets transfer to it and you can deselect items that you do not want. Lastly, if you download content on your iPad and it is a universal app, you can actually download it directly to your iPhone by looking at your past purchases and download it directly from the App Store. Check out the articles below for more information if need further assistance.

  • My ipod touch is stuck in connect to itunes screen. I've tried to press Power and Home button at the same time for 10 seconds and all it does is go to a black screen. Press power button again and the usb cable with an arrow towards an iTunes logo.

I have a brand new Ipod touch with front facing camera. Not sure which generation it is. My wife connected the iPod Touch and chose the restore option when connecting to iTunes. It was a mistake and by the time I got there, I saw the screen with USB cable with an arrow facing towards iTunes logo. I cannot get the iPod out of this state.

    Try here:

    Also reset the iPod.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

You have to remove all cables before connecting to your computer with micro usb. Power is only connected when using a 3rd gen device and done after the initial connection.

  • HT1414 I Pad is frozen with a picture of a USB cable with an arrow pointing to an icon of itunes

IPAD is frozen with a picture of a USB cable with an arrow pointing to an icon of itunes? Can anyone suggest a fix

You are in Recovery Mode. Follow the instructions below to recover your iPad.
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.

  • HT1941 trying to connect time  apsule to macbook air with the ethernet cable in the WAN port the airport utility doesn't detect it

trying to connect time  capsule to macbook air with the ethernet cable in the WAN port but the airport utility doesn't detect it but when i put it in the LAN one it does but it doesn't let me configure
    any ideas?

Isn't it fun trying to do things without an ethernet cable direct to the computer.. Apple sell a usb to ethernet adapter cable fairly cheap.. makes life a lot easier having something to do hard connections.. or as hard as usb can manage.
Since you have to access the TC by wireless .. press and hold the reset button on the TC for about 10sec until front led flashes rapidly.. don't worry about the ethernet cable.. leave it disconnected.
Now click on the airport symbol and join another network. The TC should revert to its home name.. which will be a combo of Time Capsule and its MAC address. There is no wireless security and you can do the setup.

  • I'd to lengthen my USB cable with Cat5e or Cat6.  What are the restrictions?

I'd to lengthen my USB cable with Cat5e or Cat6.  What are the restrictions?  My iPad will live in my office upstairs and my computer is in a rack down stairs (about 50 feet away).  Will the iPad and computer connect at this distance?  If I use a powered balun will it help?

USB has a maximum limit of about 5 meters. To go longer than that, you will need multiple intervening self-powered hubs, though that can be problematical. Using the simple Cat-5/6 "baluns" may not work because they can cause signal timing problems. There are some USB extender products that can successfully use Cat-5 cabling over significant distances, but they're not cheap.
