WRT54GS Constantly "Reconnecting"

Ver7.2
I've just replaced my old BEFW11S4 (finally died, no complaints: I think a storm surge hit it) with a WRT54GS.  No problems with setup.  Security is WEP-128 Bit (one of my older wireless NIC's doesn't support WPA).  Channel set to 11.
My Problem:
I'm frequently getting messages on my wireless nodes (total of 5 PC's plus an X-Box) that indicate that their various connections were briefly lost and then immediately restored hemselves.  This is confusing because my old unit didn't do this, and all my nodes are quite close (20-30 feet and excellent signal strength shown), and I'm in an area that wouldn't have interferance from neighbors.  In fact, my laptop does this even when it is 5 feet from the router.  Why does it appear that the router is dropping and reinitializing the links?  It's brand new, so I wouldn't expect the firmware would need to be updated.
Suggestions appreciated???

If you are getting frequent disconnection on wired & wireless network ... surely it is time to upgrade the firmware ...
Go to http://linksysy.com/download   ,,download the firmware & reconfigure the router ...

  • Remote app - constantly reconnecting, can't get it to stop

    Any ideas?
I took the Remote app for a dry run, and everything worked fine - I really like it.
Next, I bought an Airport Express. I'm still working out problems, but that's another post in another area...
The problem now is, I can get iTunes playing through the AE to my stereo, but the Remote app is constantly reconnecting to iTunes. I can't get it to stop this procedure.
I hear music, and in the half second between reconnects, I can use the Remote app to advance to the next song. It reconnects all the time, though, every 5 seconds maybe, making browsing through playlists or albums impossible.
Also, I've tried the "Stay Connected" both on and off, but neither makes any difference.
Any ideas why this is happening?
    Thanks,
    -Trevor

Well - after reading through the abundant suggestions... not...
I've ditched the ad hoc network treatment, and switched to a wireless access point for my airport express. So far (this afternoon only), I am no longer having this problem.
    I'll mark the question answered.

  • Two issues - Having to constantly reconnect and wireless not working (now) on WRT54G

I believe my router is a model WRT54G (it's a G or GL).  First problem - I have a laptop and a PC with wireless cards.  Both have connected at one time or another to my router, but neither work now.  They both show "acquiring connection & IP", then "Connected", but the connection cannot be used to go to the Internet.  I CAN get into my primary wired PC from these two, though.
We've rebooted the PCs, turned the router and the cards on and off (router off for several minutes), disabled and reenabled the connections - no luck.
Second issue - on my primary wired connection, and before we had the issues, on the other two devices, I'll try to go to a web page, and be prompted to "Connect".  This will happen several times in a session, not just when I first open my browser.
I can't believe this problem is unique to me.
Advice would be appreciated - thanks.

hi... try power cycling the n/w, power down the modem and router, wait for couple of minutes, power up the modem first once modem is rebooted power up the router...check whether it makes any difference or not, if it still doesn't work you may need to reset the router back to factory default settings by pressing reset button on the back panel of router about 30 seconds, power cycle the n/w and check whether it works or not... also let me know which internet connection you are using so that i can tell you step by step configuration of router and wireless settings...

  • Router constantly reconnects resulting in slow spe...

My router (I think it's a home hub 3) disconnects and reconnects frequently. After a reconnection my measured download speed drops from 4.5 mbs to 0.45 mbs. After some while it returns to the normal 4.5. This used to happen only rarely, but now it is happening several times a day so that I almost always am faced with the 0.45 download speed. I have no exptension lines in the house - only the master socket. I have opened this up and connected directly to the test socket with no improvement - still reconnects every few hours. It may be that this happens more frequently during windy/rainy weather, but I can't say for sure.
From the event log at most recent reconnect:

P.S. I have gone through all the suggestions on the broadband connections sticky post - no new light shed by anything there. It did seem strange that for the speed check I always got that my details could not be found but I was able to continue anyway.

OK. 1) I've connected a shiny new ADSL filtre, 2) The wind and snow have long since stopped, so weather should not be an issue, 3) Yesterday the BT Service check page said there had been a broadband issue in my area but it had been fixed at 13:05 and today the service check so no problems. Since then my router has reset 3 times and I have had 0.45mbs rather than 4.5 for over 48 hours straight, a new record for me. As there anything else I can check/do before asking for a BT engineer to check it out. And what is the process for making that request?

  • Wireless printer os x constantly reconnecting

I have this new macbook pro 15" retina. I have 2 wireless printers (Canon MG3500, MP620, and at work HP 4700). I am constantly unable to print. I set up the printers, they work fine. Then the next day, they do not work anymore. The IP address has not changed. It doesn't matter which printer, they all do the same thing. Plus, I couldn't even set up the printer wirelessly on the new MG3500.
    Why does this keep happening?

    Hello jbalgooyen,
Thanks for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're encountering a frustrating situation when trying to print to several printers on your wireless networks. There are several components involved, and I can offer a few suggestions on where to begin troubleshooting.
First, make sure your MacBook Pro is connecting to your Wi-Fi network before trying to print. You can use the tips in this article to help diagnose Wi-Fi connection issues on your Mac:
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity - Apple Support
Next, try this method to reset the printing system on the Mac and reinstall the printer drivers:
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.

  • WiFi constantly reconnecting & Camera issue

Hi guys I've done a bit of searching and can't seem to fix my following issues -
My WiFi keeps dropping on the phone and reconnecting after about 10 seconds, As you can imagine this gets quite irritating when you're in the middle of something, The mobile data however is fine but as I'm only on a 1GB limit I tend not to leave it on especially when I'm in the house, I seen some resolutions about forgetting all previous WiFi points I've been connected to and re-join the main one but that didn't work.
Also with my camera whenever I try to take a picture it doesn't seem to focus properly, Even on superior auto and holding it completely still - I'm not sure if this is a fault of just the way the camera is .. If so I'm disappointed.
Are these issues that can be solved with the next update or is my handset most likely defective?
    Thanks for your time,
    Jonathan

  • WRT54G constantly needs factory reset

We have a Linksys WRT54G version 1.1 (Firmware revision is 4.21.1) that I have customized with various settings including mac filtering, time zone, IP restrictions, SSID name etc..
For whatever reason from time to time (no identifiable pattern of when or why) the internet drops out completely from all 3 computers (2 wireless and 1 wired to it) and the ONLY and I mean ONLY way to get it back (it is definitely NOT the cable modem) is to reset the router to factory defaults via the router admin pages.
As soon as I do that the internet comes back, but since all my settings are now lost, so I immediately restore my configuration to what it was before via a saved cfg file. After that the internet still works for some days/weeks, but it ALWAYS needs factory default reseting again (via the admin pages; not the button).
Its gotten to be very annoying and while I know a power outage DOES cause it (it has several times) there are times like today when there was no known outage. As far as surges go, I have no idea if we're getting power surges or when they'd occur.
To me it seems like some memory buffer is filling up and clogging till it can't spout data anymore because over time the internet becomes slower and slower till we power cycle it. Power cycling it alone though does not fix the internet no-access problem. Power cycling "may" just fix the speed issue.

I believe I've tried this before and have gotten the msg that the router is already up to date with the same revision of firmware. With this msg being up I assume that the reflashing did not go through.
    Any more dice?

  • Wireless Problem with New MBP

    Hey there,
My MBP is about a month old, and I've been getting alot of disconnects. At home, I'm connected to my router, and at school with the wifi all over. I don't really notice it until Microsoft Messenger alerts me that I'm disconnected. And when I'm on bootcomp (to play Gunbound with some friends) I get disconnected because my connection was lost. I have to reconnect. I haven't really timed it. Can someone give me a suggestion or solution?
    Thanks.

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro 2.2ghz and I am having the same problem where everytime I close the screen or walk away or close the internet after 5 min I have to reconnect to the net. Is there a soluton for this, I am running off a trendnet 54mbps 11g wireless router. it's a piece of crap but does the job. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem it's extremely frustrating when you have to constantly reconnect to the interent. Thanks.

  • Help!  I tried calling Apple but I don't think they know what to do.

Just purchased my brand new macbook pro about 2 weeks ago. My internet keeps coming and going, and I know it's my internet provider because I am still geting internet on the ipod touch when the internet on my macbook pro is down. It happens every hour for about 5-10 mins, I can't get any internet connection, although I get all full bar strength. I have to constantly reconnect back to my router.
What is wrong and what can I do to fix this? This is a $2,000 laptop, and I'm about ready to take it back if it continues to act this way.
I do not have snow leopard. It came out about 2 days after I purchased this. I wonder if that would fix it.

Take it back to an Apple Store and get it check out on their network. If it works fine there, the problem is in your home network.

  • Why does my iPad2 suddenly keep losing connection on facetime?

Why does my iPad2 suddenly keep losing connection on FaceTime and tries to constantly reconnect?

Does it happen anywhere that you use FaceTime or only in your home WiFi network? If it happens with your home network, have you tried power cycling your router? Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
Turn WiFi off and on in the settings. Reset the network settings.
Have you tried any troubleshooting steps at all?

  • TS1398 Our work connection to WPA-Enterprise now drops after about 5 minutes.

The wifi now has to be constantly reconnected.  This only started happening after the IOS 6 update. Is nobody else experiencing this?

It turned out the problem apparently was that Apple dropped support for TKIP encryption.  My problem was just with WPA\WPA2 Enterprise authentication.  By replacing TKIP with AES the problem went away.  I don't know if this was an undocumented change but a lot of users have been effected.

  • Wifi issues with Macbook Pro

    Would really appreciate some help!!
Recently my laptop keeps disconnecting from my home wifi network every five minutes or so! The wifi icon greys out and I have to constantly reconnect to my network. Any one else encountered this problem and have a solution?! Thank you!!

I have had a similiar issue - my Airport Express (3) get that blinking amber light. I've done the paper clip reset thing; I've rebooted my MBP. I've tried re-establishing connection via Airport Utility and Network Prefs, unable to re-establish the home network that has been stable for years.
Interestingly, I can get two of the AExpress (used to extend home network) to work, but not the third. I've reposititioned that unit, and still can't get them all to work. Regrettably, the Genious I saw was not helpful.
    Anybody else?

  • Remote Desktop not working on client after crash

I was installing the ARD Client along with some other OS upgrades on two client computers. My main ARD console was busy copying some files so I set up ARD to install the pkgs via the task server on another Mac. During the install my main ARD console crashed. Now the clients show up with the status that Screen sharing is allowed but they show the old version of the ARD client is installed. I manually installed the new ARD client but it still shows up on my console as the old version. Sometimes I can connect to the clients and sometimes I cannot. I can't do anything other than screen sharing and that is not working well either. I went to the client computer and stopped and started ARD through system preferences. When that didn't work I used the terminal command to kickstart ARD on the client. No change on the admin side. I've also noticed when I am able to connect to the client that it is constantly reconnecting to it like it is dropping the connection. I ran Activity monitor on the client and ARDAgent shows up there but keeps disappearing like its starting and stopping on its own. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them?

When I looked in this folder, I saw the "Client" folder with the red "no access" icon on it.  I did a GetInfo and changed the permissions for this folder to include Administrators with read/write (why it wasn't already like this as I was logged into the server through ARD as admin [server is headless], I'll never know).
I propagated this perm changes down through the folder's children and all seems well.  Its likely that because of the access issue, ARD could not initiate any connections (vnc://serverIP did not work either initially).
    YMMV.

  • Wireless adapter keeps cutting out

    Hello all,
I have a Pavillion DV1130us notebook. The wireless adapter kkeeps cutting out on me and I need to constantly reconnect. Anyone else have this problem??? Thank you.

Ok got the firmware updated. For the security under wep it says default key and gives me an option of 1-4 to choose. Then wep encryption and gives me two choices 64 bits 10 hex digits and then 128 bits and 26 hex digits. Then the passphrase and gives me a spot to put something in but also has a generate button. Can I put my own in or not? Then it has at the bottom slots for all 4 keys to put something in each of them. What does this mean? Maybe I am totally lost and not as hard as it seems.

  • Outlook client behaviour with load balancers when moving DB

    Hi there,
My setup is 3 mailbox servers in a CAS array. I use hardware load balancers pointing outlook clients at the CAS array (mail.company.com). I am doing some maintenance which is involving moving certain DBs to different drives. I dismount the DB and change
the DB path to begin the move. When I do this within minutes of starting the maintenance, our hardware load balancers get almost flooded to capacity with client connections. We need to understand exactly what is happening here. My guess is that as the
DB is offline, the clients just sit there and attempt to constantly reconnect. We have hundreds of thousands of available connections which get saturated almost instantly.
Why do the clients attempt so many connections? Can this be prevented? I also dont understand why the load balancers arent keeping the connections open for longer so each time a client reconnects it just uses the same already open connection
Does anybody have any thoughts/advice/experience with this?
    Thanks, Lamby.

    Hi,
Hardware load balancers continuously monitor the load on the server and try to distribute the load evenly. Load balancing ensures that the load on your Client Access server is evenly distributed, not based on the database level. If one CAS server fails,
Outlook would still access database. However, if one database is offline, Outlook client would continue to connect to the same RPC Client Access Server array to access database, even though this database is failed.
If you want to keep the high availability for database level, you can deploy a DAG.
