WRT54GS disconnects and re-connects constantly

For the last week or so, I've been having problems with my laptop staying connected to any network. It will connect to my home network for a while then inexplicably disconnect and re-connect to one of the other networks belonging to another house in the neighborhood. I stay connected to that for a while, then it will disconnect but stay disconnected until I re-connect to my home network.
I thought it might have been a router problem since my router was about 5 years old, so I went out and bought a new Linksys WRT54GS. I'm still having the same problems, though. I have downloaded the newest drivers for my wireless card and the newest firmware for the router. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

It sounds like you and your neighbors are still all using "linksys" as your SSID.   Your computer is simply connecting to whichever signal is stronger.
Set your SSID to a unique name.

I have a new lion server and 4 lion laptops. The laptops loose connection to the shared documents and printers from the server after roughly 1 hour. By disconnecting and re-connecting wireless the connection is regained to shares and printers. We can still surf the web when it goes down.

Ok 1st one. The warning restriction message relates to this line in main.cf:
    smtpd_helo_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated  permit_mynetworks  check_helo_access hash:/etc/postfix/helo_access  reject_non_fqdn_hostname  reject_invalid_hostname  permit reject_invalid_helo_hostname
The last reject occurs after the single word "permit" and is ignored.
    However, that's not the problem.
I'm not exactly sure what's happening, but this might be a clue.
It would appear that either postfix is not being able to create the socket for private/policy or it's somehow created with the wrong permissions.  You might need to ramp up the debug level to get a better idea.
You could check if it's being created by "netstat -a | grep private/policy" in terminal.
My guess is that it's not being created because there is no setup statement in your master.cf file, but I don't understand why postfix would be looking for it if it isn't set up.  Private/policy I think relates to grey listing.  Maybe gives you a hint.

  • WRT54G Disconnects and REQUIRES a Power on Reset

My WRT54G disconnects once per day and requires a power on reset to get it back on line. It's version 6 with the most recent firmware.
After a wonderful chat session with Linksys this AM and then a subsequent email to Support, I've received NO satisfaction.
Anyone have a suggestion as to a solution???? I'm at my second warning and about to be banished!!!!
The router crashes each and every day and it seems to be DIRECTLY related to how much the kids use the wireless connection - you see they were gone for two weeks and there were NO (ZERO) crashes, they came home and started to use the wireless connectivity and BINGO, I'm pulling the plug on the WRT faster than OnnagokorO and his cohorts can edit/delte my posts.
Please, please tell me there's an answer.
(Edited a small part post for guideline compliance. Thanks!)

To dtv --- my guess is that the kids are running some high bandwidth program that makes multiple simultaneous Internet connections.  This tends to use a lot of memory in the router, causing it to crash.  Many programs can cause this, but it is common in peer to peer networking programs, such as BitTorrent.
If this is the case, limit the number of simultaneous connections that BitTorrent can make.
Please also note that Linksys recently posted a firmware upgrade that should help with BitTorrent problems.

  • Skype Keeps disconnecting and Re-connecting

HI There,  since last week my skype, and a couple of my skype contacts have been experiencing the same problem. Skype will stay connected for a while in the morning and then it will will start disconnecting and showing you as offline. If you whach it, you can actually see it disconnecting, looking for a connection and then connects again for a couple of seconds.  I though it was the version that I'm running so upgraded and currently running on version:5.5.0.113 but this has not changed anything. To rule out my company network I tested this at home on my home network with both my Laptop and my Pc and the result is the same.  What could it be? and how do we get arround this?

Are you using a wireless network nearby other possible wireless networks, like near or in an apartment/condo like building that might be on your same wireless channel? If so, please see this free program that can tell you if this is causing you issues as well. http://virtualtelephoneservices.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=8 If this is a laptop/notebook, it could be overheating, during long video calls, this free program can tell you if this is the case. http://almico.com/speedfan.php

  • How do I stop FaceTime on my MacBook Pro from freezing and dropping connection constantly?

I only have this issue with FaceTime on my MacBook Pro; FaceTime works fine on my iPad Mini and iPhone 5S. I'll be talking with someone over FaceTime and it will randomly freeze and/or say it's lost the connection and I usually have to turn my Wifi off and on again and it reconnects. Every time I click on the Wifi icon in the top it says it's looking for networks. Why would it be looking for networks? It's almost always within 10-15 feet of my wireless router and nothing else in my house has an issue maintaining a connection with it. Is there some kind of unnecessary setting on my MacBook Pro that tells it to constantly search for other networks even though I've only set it up for one network?

Were you able to download and save the DMG (disk image file) for Firefox?
If there are problems with updating or permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (DMG) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 16.0.2: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Trash the current Firefox application (e.g. open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re-)install
Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the Firefox disk image (DMG) file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.<br />
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

  • WRT400N Frequent disconnects and now Connection Not even Viewable

We purchased this router looking for the speed and ability to have 2.4 and 5gh at the same time. Have 5 laptops connected but only 2-3 used at a time. 2 dell, 1 Toshiba and 1 vaio. Once I installed it took an hour to get the internet to be recognized and wireless to work. SInce then every time I put the computer on sleep or shut down the internet disconnects. The reconnect was usually fast , maybe 5-ten seconds. However yesterday we started experiencing the internet connection dropping all together and the router/connection not even being recognized on the wireless option in the Network and Sharing section of Windows 7. I have never seen where you can't even click on the connection to diagnose etc. As of this morning there was still no connectivity. I have rebooted the DSL (Brighthouse Cable) modem, rebooted and rest the router numerous times. The internet might show back up for a few seconds, and then drop again. I'm two seconds away from returning this puppy as it's only been a few days since we got it. Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Login to the setup page of your Router and below change the MTU size to 1350 and click on save settings, then under the wireless tab change the wireless channel to 1 or 11 and click on save settings. Now again try to connect to your wireless network.

This is a Iphone 4s. So 2 days ago, my wifi kept greying out and every time it connects again to the internet it doesn't work and it also is very slow and then suddenly it disconnects, i have tried this and it is the same for every wifi connection. I have tried the trouble shooting steps, restored my iphone, restarted it, turned it on and off and it still doesnt help. I have recently read articles about people having the same problem as me because they updated there i os, but i dont know if i have the same problem or what. I have called up apple today and they said that my phone has expried from warrenty, so i need to try the trouble shooting steps but they won't work. Also, when I click on my wifi it says "unable to connect". Anyone suggest things i should do? Thnak you

Having this same issue. Went to the Apple store and called support numerous times ... Apple will not admit there is a problem and instead convienantly found that a water damage sensor in the earplug jack was tripped. Even though they took it apart and found no water damage sensors tripped internally, they basically told me my warranty was void. Apple is avoiding the issue with the WIFI on the iPhone 4s ..... sorry

  • Bluetooth keyboard and mouse connectivity problems

I have an Apple bluetooth keyboard and Mighty Mouse connected to my Macbook Pro 13", running ML 10.8.1.
The keyboard and mouse will constantly disconnect and re-connect on their own every few minutes. I'll see the "connection lost" notification, and then shortly after the "connected" notification. Also, even when the keyboard is connected, it often becomes unresponsive and/or strange things happen, such as the special characters menu appearing above the cursor (which I believe there is a keyboard shortcut to invoke, but I'm not doing that; it appears on its own).
    This never happened in Lion.
Any idea what's happening and how to fix it?

  • Broadband repeatedly disconnecting and super slow.

     Hi,
since the 4th we've had some incredible internet speeds (lowest being 38kbps) and broadband dropouts. The hib will go through stages of connecting for about 30 secs and then disconnecting and re-connecting again. After ringing BT this problem now seems solved however, we're still getting invredibly slow speeds, we normally get about 5meg, currently it's 240kbps.
I've tried changing the ADSL filter and tried different power cables, tried moving the hub 5m away from anything and the speed still won't go back to normal, any help in this would be appreciated.

with the number of times you appear to have restarted the hub your profile is prbably very low hence the slow download speed. can you post the adsl stats from your router (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z) and run btspeedtester http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results. Someone may then be able to offer assistance

Any ideas?  I probably have something wrong in my computer settings.

You should restore your modem to router condition and set the Airport Express to 'Bridge Mode'. A full explanation and the method of doing this is here:

  • WRT54G: Pinging and Disconnection Problems

I have the WRT56G and both the wired and wireless connections are very weak. When connecting my computer directly into my cable modem, the connection is very fast and rock solid. For example when I ping linksys.com when connecting directly into my modem, the average latency is about 15ms. When pinging linksys.com using the WRT54G, the latency is a horrendous 3800ms. I've already swapped things 4 times already and every time is the same. Constantly getting disconnected from games, getting 404 errors when visiting websites.

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly
the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the
router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power
cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
Also, the advanced wireless settings to Beacon Interval=50,Frag
thres=2306 & Rts thres=2307 & then uncheck a Block Anonymous Internet Requests & it will definately work!!!

  • WRT54G Disconnects when another computer connects

    Hello,
I have a WRT54G v5 Wireless-G Broadband Router. My 100MB fiber optic line is connected directly to the router and the router connects to my internet account with no problem. The main computer that I use is directly connected to the router via LAN cable to one of the 4 ports. At this point I never have any issues at all and no disconnections. Then when my laptop connects wirelessly to the router for internet access the router disconnects and reconnects immediately. Then I can resume work as normal until the next time the laptop connects to the router again. In the router settings the wireless area is set to "B-Only" on Channel 11 2.462GHz.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this issue so that the laptop can connect without causing the router to disconnect and reconnect each time?
    Thank you!!
    Ed

So you had this same problem? And setting the router to use either B or G solved it? That seems strange. I have 4 computers. 2 are wired to 2 of the 4 ports. Other 2 are wireless using G-capable adapters. So I configured my router to do G only. I figured why not--it is one more step in security since B clients won't even be able to connect. I'm also sure I read something in the Linksys docs that implied it was better to lock the router to one or the other if you know that's all you need to support.
Anyway, I'm going to try this like you suggest. I don't have the exact same problem. My problem is that I just lose connection between computers and the router "randomly" for 10 seconds to 2 minutes then mysteriously the wireless network will be found again. The signal is either non-existent or excellent. The router is about 10 feet from the computers and without any walls between. My router is a v1--old, but I have latest firmware available as of last week.

I experienced the same problem with my Lumia 800 and the MyWay audio/navi/BT telephone system in my previous and current Citroën C5 (both latest model (PhIII)): http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nokia-with-Windows-Phone/Bluetooth-and-3G/td-p/1288591 .
I first thought it had something to do with switching from G to 3G and back. But in the end I discovered that BT on the Lumia 800 just disabled itself, while connected to my cars BT system. I have started the procedure to send my Lumia tot Nokia Care. Keep You informed.
