WRT54GS - Firewall - adding program to router's firewall

Need help.  I have ATX 2007 tax software and I'm trying to do an e-filing.  I contacted software vendor and was walked through adding the software in exceptions using Windows Firewall.  I also disabled the windows firewall but still could not do a filing.  I kept getting error message of no internet connection.  Strange thing about this, I have ATX 2006 software and able to do e-filings and connect to internet.  The techies at ATX said the problem was the router.  They tried entering my computer remotely but could not get through because again they said router's firewall is blocking.  How can I add my software through the router's built-in firewall?  In the meantime, I have to revert back to dial-up (ugh!) on my old laptop just to do e-filings for my clients.  Any suggestions?

The router only works with a broadband cable/dsl connection and not dial-up. Can you get online with the router?
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

I have AppleTV and Ipad2 running VJay app to my TV over a private cisco router disabled firewall but I keep loosing the video on my TV after a few minutes what can I do?

I also get this problem on my iPad, so probably not related to the AppleTV. On the iPad I restarted Airport Extreme this time, and then the iPad saw my Home Sharing.
So to recap, restarting the router or Airport Express allowed the iPad and AppleTV to see Home Sharing. Restarting AppleTV also allows AppleTV to see Home Sharing.
So does anyone have any idea?

  • External Router and Firewall

I have just been informed by Apple Care that my entire implementation for my Xserve is off base. We only got to this problem when Kerberos wouldn't work. I had judiciously followed the manual and had my Ether1 and 2 ports set up to do external (1) internal (2), provide DHCP, NAT, VPN the whole nine yards. Ran gateway assistant, got my FQDN, promoted to open directory. And now I am told by my Apple Care guy that this is not at all the way to go; that I need to have an external router with firewall and assign the static IP to it and then run the server interally only. Let me just say I took the 4 day server essentials class and that was noticably lacking in the discussion. So I guess what I am asking today is what an ideal router/firewall product would be suggested. I'd prefer it be rack mounted. I also need a product that the company is going to support. So suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I guess I am back to square one on this. Full reinstall. Sigh.

    1. Run OD and AFP on the fixed IP Master. This should
be your strongest, fastest server and must have a
real fixed IP address, not allocated by DHCP. You
need an FQDN for this IP address entereted in your
    internal DNS.
WES: I believe I am hearing you say that the VPN/Firewall server (the weaker one) would now carry the static IP address on ethernet1; and have say 192.168.2.1 as it's manualy set internal IP on ethernet2; say 192.168.3.1. The better server would have it's IP manually set to, say 192.168.3.1.
    2. Run internal DHCP and DNS services on the Master
    also.
WES: I am not sure why one would run DHCP and DNS here though? I figured that was a simplier process to accompish off the weaker server.
    3. On your firewall machine (the Replica, maybe
running Tiger Server 10-user) run your webpages &
    VPN.
WES: But as I understood it, one had to run this off of the machine with the FQDN. Same as mail. More below....
    4. Put Mail on a completely separate box in your
    DMZ.
WES: I'm not sure I follow you here. I am out of boxes. Actually I'll have to buy another one if I got this route at all. I don't have nearly a large enough operation to justify three servers -- maybe not two -- except for this problem.
One advantage of using a Tiger Server Master/Replica
over a cheap firewall box is that you have redundancy
available for all your Tiger Server apps (DHCP, DNS,
etc). You also have an automatic backup of all user
accounts/passwords and you don't need to configure
separate VPN accounts/profiles for your users.
    WES: Yes that makes sense.
Plus, if you're serious about VPN, 'proper' routers
start to get real expensive if you need concurrent
    connections.
WES: There is another issue that I am a bit uncertain about. Where I got into trouble here was trying to get Kerberos to work. However, I am not sure that in the end that's a service I'm going to need. If VPN encrypts all traffic over the internet is Kerberos necesssary. I DON'T need it in house as there isn't an internal security issue of any kind. Maybe I am shooting for something I don't need...which brings us to...I am still confused about the Apple Care guy's comment that with the set up as it is, he could essentially raid my OD. He rattled off a lot of cool talk that made me think he was right but I have never found any reference to this. Can anyone explain to me -- one box acting in this capacity for a small office with a public IP -- being that open to a security risk. Puzzles me.

  • MPLS router with firewall

Can i setup my network such that i placed a Cisco ASA firewall between my mpls router and cisco switch ?
    | MPLS Router |    -------------  | ASA Firewall |     ---------------  |   Switch     |   ------------ |    VLANs    |

    Hi
As per your senario it look like en enterprise network. So you won't requrie MPLS lable Propagation in your internet network.
If possible  can clear that weather you want to Propagate the MPLS Lable in you internet network or do you run MPLS in you routers & switchs  or do you have only an MPLS Link from your SP.
And if you won't require MPLS lable Propagation or you have not configured MPLS in intenal network  then you can configure ASA in routed mode & can use all feature that you requried.

  • Router vs Firewall

    First I can connect several PCs to a router, then connect this router to an ADSL modem, and finally via this model (which is connected to an local ISP), all the PCs on the LAN can access to the internet;
Now, let's do this with a firewall, i.e., connect several PCs to a Firewall, then connect this Firewall to an ADSL modem, and finally via this model (which is connected to an local ISP), all the PCs on the LAN can access to the internet, too.
So, my question is when should we use the router and when to use firewall?
Especially, nowadays, a router contains "some" firewall inside, while a firewall also contains "some" router inside.
    Thanks to help

After an update to firefox I keep getting a warning from my Firewall (McAfee) "Program wants internet access". I have permission set at outgoing for firefox and updates checking off, to check that request is valid so what does it need access for

This was not a Firefox update, but a piece of malicious software you have inadvertently downloaded from a site called http://ffftp.co.cc/ which is impersonating Firefox. I discovered this as soon as my Zonealarm requested permission for "Golds" to access the internet. Golds??!! However I couldn't find a file with this name installed on my computer.
You should delete the file you downloaded and certainly do not allow internet access to any suspicious program. If you have already given permission, scan your PC immediately for any virus, malware, etc. Best of luck.

  • Extreme running in bridge mode, can't get out past router or firewall

    Hello
I have my Laptop, Mini and an older PC connected to my wireless network via my new airport extreme. I had teh system connected and got the solid green light but no internet. After putting the extreme into bridge mode everything works fine. The problem I have now is that I can't activate my web cam it says that i am blocked behind a firewall or router. I have been told that to get out from behind the router of firewall I need to be out of the bridge mode, but when I try this I loose my internet connection??? Anybody have a suggestion???

Warnercj7, Welcome to the discussion area!
I guess the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) is connected to a modem of some type. It appears that the modem is operating as a router.
You will need to configure the modem/router so that the appropriate ports are forwarded through the modem/router to the web cam.

  • Adding a Netgeat router to a network.

Hi guys. I never thought that I'd need to ask this at this point in my life. For years I've been setting up, every now an then only though, small domestic networks and, altough some had taken me time, I've eventually made them work.
Anyway, the current configuration is: One wired/wireless router from which 5 computers take the internet. One of them is mine and the cable length is fairly long, probably about 50 meters. My computer connects, I believe, perfectly to the router. All my computer network settings were automatic. I had to input nothing.
When I connected my Airport Express in order to create a wireless subnetwork, it also automatically set all the addresses and seemed to work straight away. I'm afraid I believe the length of the cable causes the network (now wireless between the AX and my MBP) to become extremely sluggish if it works at all. The webpages kind-of are going to load, but never to completion. I thought this was because the AX after all, imho, is not meant for these tasks but for rather domestic layouts.
I tried then replacing the AX with a proper (so I believed) router: a Netgeat WGR614. I believe it doesn't have automatic network detection so tried setting all the IP addresses manually, basically copy-pasting the settings that the AX adopted automatically, but never got to put it to work. Furthermore, I couldn't access the settings page on the browser because I changed its own address (if anyone know how to access the routers' settings once you've changed their IP address I'd appreciate if you'd explained to me).
So I master-reset the router with that button at the back. Now, as soon as I access the settings they force me to follow some sort of network wizard that leads me nowhere and inevitably (since I always change its IP address) I get left out of the settings.
What do I have to do here? In the past I've added routers to create sub-networks but I cannot do it now, why?
Could the router be faulty? Or could it suffer as well from the same long-distance cable? The router that access directly the internet doesn't seem sturdy at all, but rather cheap, so I blame it mostly. It's a SpeedTouch XXX disguised as a BT Home Hub.
With the Netgear router how do I bypass the wizard and jump straight into the settings page?
    Thanks guys.

    (I have a a WGR614v6 - works great for me in a single-router setting)
The WGR614 is a bottom of the line cheap router - I too had trouble following the built-in wizard when I tried to set it up as a wireless access point add-on at school. To access the admin web page, I just enter http://[LAN-sideaddress_ofrouter]
Adding a second router is a tricky business - you don't want it to be a router, you want it to be a wireless access point only, so that your first router is doing all the usual things: NAT, firewall, DHCP. If you leave it doing router things, your second network will be isolated from the computers in the first router's network.
    Does that help?

  • Re-Org/Update Program for Route determination

    Hi
does anyone know if there is a Re-org / Update program for Routes ?
I have added new routes, against Shipping conditions from NO and SE to many Western European Countries ,  and would like to update Sales orders/ deliveries with these new routes
    Many thanks for your advice
    Tony

    Hello Tony
For the orders, if you have configured 'Define New Route Determination By Delivery Type', then route redetermination takes place  during delivery creation and finds the new route.  So I would say don't bother about fixing the orders.
Just ensure you have configured these 2 items in IMG:
LE/Shipping/Basic Shipping Functions/Routes/Define New Route Determination By Delivery Type,
            and
LE/Shipping/Basic Shipping Functions/Routes/Define Allowed Actual Route By Proposed Route.
That leaves open deliveries which are not PGIed to be taken care of.

  • WRT54G as AP causing dlink router to restart

I am trying to use a WRT54Gv5 as just and access point.  To do this I have it connected to my main router over the lan connection of the WRT54G (to the lan on the dlink of coarse) and have DHCP turned off on the WRT54G, so that the dlink router handles that.  It all seems to be working properly, with wireless devices being correctly assigned ips by the main router and successfully accessing the internet.  However I have two problems.  The first one is whenever the WRT54G is running the dlink router restarts every few minutes.  I have checked and this does not happen when the WRT54G is disconnected or powered down.  For the time being I have it powered down so no wireless network currently.  This is the main problem I would like fixed.  The second problem is that I cannot access wireless devices from the LAN when the wireless is running.

If you are facing inetmitten problem with the linksys router, first thing which you can do is Upgrade the firmware of your router, and this will solve your problem. Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop.Once you downloaded the firmware of your router, Disconnect your D-Link router from Linksys router, and let your computer be connected to Linksys router.
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable.
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on
"Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Connecting two WRT54GS to the same (wired) router (non-linksys)

Due to some security issue I have to connect two WRT54GS to the same wired router.
Do I connect the first WRT54GS to one port of the router and the second one to another port?
And is the connection on the WRT the ethernetport or the internetport?
And can I reach both the configuration screens or do I have to change the
adress of one of them to e.g. 192.168.1.2 ?
    Regards,
    hENK.

I will suggest you to connect the LAN port of wired router to LAN ports of both WRT54GS  ........  Th connectino to WRT54GS is Ethernet Port ......
Regarding the Ip address of WRT54GS ..... change the Ip address of first wireless router from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2 ........make the DHCP service disabled ....
For the other router the Ip address would be 192.168.1.3 ...... DHCP service again disabled .........
For accessing the set up page of both router use the new Local Ip address.........on the explorer address bar ......

  • Adding programs to front row

Hi all, sorry if this isn't the right place for this question, but I was wondering if there was any way of adding programs to front row? What I really want to do is open the dashboard from my remote control so I can check for emails and the weather from the comfort of my bed!!!

    Hi, Iain.
I suspect Sijmons meant to refer you to the Keyspan RF Remote For Front Row.
According to this tip on Mac OS X Hints, one can assign AppleScripts to the programmable buttons on the Keyspan RF Remote for Front Row.
This Mac OS X Hints tip has a simple AppleScript for invoking Dashboard, as well as some interesting variants.
    Good luck!

The newly installed Adobe 10.1.2 is not on the list of allowed programs to pass through the Windows7 firewall. Manual adding does not work. The Windows 7 instructions say: select a program you want to add or click 'browse'to find one that is not listed, and then click 'ok' The browse button transfers to windows explorer, I find an Adobe program under Program Files (86x) but I can not transfer the path into the window of allowed programs.
